I got the HTC Desire and im trying install the XDA Develpors app but when its installing it says "Cannot install on SD Card or USB Device"
Please help?
What ROM are you running on your desire?
if ur rooted then use some kinda root explorer and move xda.apk to
system/app
and change permissions to match the other apps then reboot.

Hi 2 all!
Does anybody know where the downloaded apps from the market are stored? Will they be deleted after the installation?

Chris

its only until stored until the installation is running? Because now my cache folder is emypt!
Yeah somtimes i find the odd .apk in there though, anyway if you want the .apk for an installed app, just grab it from /data/app/

Or use something like estrong app manager to to backup all your apk
Then you gave easy access to them whenever you need them
Before rooting and installing LeDroid rom on my unlocked htc desire, I backed up some helpful apps that came preinstalled on the device, which are not available on the market or anywhere else...
when i try to install these apps on my desire later on, it says "application can't be installed"...
Any ideas?!
Copy the .apk's to /system/app/

Then what?
I used adb push in recovery to push apk files to /system/app
adb install packagename.apk gives this error
Code:
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT]
That means the .apk is odexed, Looks like you need the .odex file for the apk

Hi
I have a htc desire root with unrevoked 3.2
whenever i try to install busybox from the installer i get an error than there is insufficient space. it shows that actual space is 1555kb and required is 1000kb.
then why is this error??
also i tried accessing the system/xbin and system/bin folder through ES file explorer...and i found out that these folders are still not writable..
is this why i am not able to install busybox??
You have to S-off your phone first to make system/... writeable.
And next, you need a file explorer from the market, which supports root access. I recommend "root explorer", it's easy to handle and clear.

+1 for root explorer, no other I have used is as intuitive or feature rich, plus root explorer actually can access everything it says it can!
Have you tried installing bb from titanium backup? Just install the free version and hit the "problems" button and it should install. Unless you are out if space in /system - root explorer would also be able to tell you this.
Hi yeti.p , stringer7
Thanks a lot for the help..i'll try the aplharev.nl
I also tried installing it from titanium..and i was successful..but still i was not able to use certain apps that require bb as they were not able to find bb on my device.
Finallly i uninstalled titanium and tried installing all the bb versions from bb installer.
I have a rooted HTC Desire (GSM) (3 network) with,
*MildWild V-2.7.2 Based on Oxygen 2.3.2 HTC Desire GSM* CW recovery V4....
I've successfully installed and managed to partition my SD but I recently decided to change my Boot animation.
I downloaded the correct "animationboot.zip" file with the correct resolution and placed it on the root of my SD as explained in a tutorial.
However when on my file explorer (both astro and native MIldWild app) I couldn't locate the "/system/media or the data/local/" folders on my sd card or even when connected in usb mode.
I tried just installing the animation straight from my recovery menu but it cancelled the installation.
How do I locate or find my "system" or "data" folders??
Thanks in adavance
Use a better file explorer app. One that can access root directory.
via xda app
Cheers stankyou it worked
how can i stop the annoying start up tune. have searched but can't find anything for wfs.
root your phone and delete /system/customize/resource/android_audio.mp3
if your phone is not rooted, try Silent boot from android market.
and if it is rooted, then make a silent .wav file in your pc, copy it to your phone sd card, then use root explorer and replace the file found in system/etc with the one you have in your sd card. should work.
ps: don't forget to hit 'mount R/W' button placed on top, inside the root explorer app before you copy.

Also, if you decide to soff your phone, and it is CDMA I have some great roms you can use. They are way better than stock firmwares, in a features and useabilty standpoint
