So......
With the recent breaking of my screen (and possibly part of the digitizer?) I started looking on Amazon for replacement screens. I really wanted to replace the screen with a red one when I thought how bad it would look with a blue back and frame. So, I started looking at a complete overhaul...
Is it hard to completely disassemble the phone? Also, for those that have good how-to reference guides, could you please consider posting links here?
Here is what I'm looking to do...
Red Chassis
^is this just the back (behind the battery cover) and NOT the actual frame itself? I think I'm looking at the wrong part here. The part that will make the actual base of the phone red.
Glass and Back Cover
^I don't see the Samsung logo so I'm not sure this is the glass I'm looking for.
Just getting an idea of what I'm getting myself into. I want to basically transform the entire phone to red. I think the chassis is the wrong part. Maybe if you know of another link, that would be great too.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
EDIT-
I think I'd actually have to buy THIS FRAME replacement and not what I originally posted.
Read about your misfortune. That sucks. I've looked into doing the same thing, and here's what I think your choices are:
1. Replace just the digitizer and screen. Not sure if your LCD is intact, but if it's undamaged, I think you can do this. (they have red too, i linked a blue one because I'm lazy)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pebble-Blue...857?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f1f4e0a91
With this though, you will have to go through this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eneLvVe7DwE
Which quite frankly looks like a nightmare
2. Replace the screen, digitizer, and housing all at the same time. This is for the i9300, but I think all the hardware is the same and you can just transfer the circuit boards over and connect all the cables. ** I really don't know if it works like that between the two models however **
http://www.ebay.com/itm/251166200776?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619
With that said, do you have a phone to hold you over??
Yeah, I was looking at these two videos:
Full Breakdown
Frame Replacement
and I was thinking to myself...hmmm, I can do that...until about 14 minutes into the frame replacement video in which he DESTROYS the LCD/Digitizer. I don't know for 100% certainty that the digitizer is bad yet, and I don't want to destroy it. Sucks, because I'd really like to do a fully overhaul and just convert it to red.
I guess I'll just go with the $20 blue screen replacement for now and see how that goes.

Going to have to pull out the old Nexus One, get a working ROM on it and use it for now. Glad I decided to keep it after retirement lol.
I just did a quick Google search and it appears that on amazon they sale one digitizer for all of the gs3 variants even the Korean one
I've dealt with a lot of iPhone OEM parts from random Amazon/eBay sellers, and judging from the quality of those I would strongly recommend you not mess with these.
The fitment on 95% of parts from China is horrible plus some! I can't say anything about the S3 parts that you have posted but my guess is they come from similar factories.
If you really want a red phone, I would research if a T999 motherboard would fit in an ATT red S3 and just switch them out.

ok so I managed to crack the screen..nice big shatter mark under the screen and now the entire screen went black...insurance is a pain and from what I understand getting Asurion to replace my vibrant will be $130 and buying an AMOLED screen itself is cheaper.
The rest of the phone is still in working condition as before my screen went totally black after it broke some of it was still functional.
Any idea on where I can get the screen? I have not had luck on ebay as of yet, and was hoping someone here could recco a reputable vendor...

Wow wish I would had found this post sooner...
I dropped my vibrant from my and it was in the case.. it landed flat on the screen..glass did not break but AMOLED screen enploded.. I didnt know until i got to my car and tried to make a call. Crap...I dish out the $130.00 bucks ...bummed out about that..
oh man ...
Still great site and price. Thanks
Thanks I'll try cnn.cn. I see some decent reviews about them.
Is there a tutorial on how to replace this? Or would you have to get someone to do it?

I cracked my screen also. I found that site after I put in the claim. So I figured what the hell and started taking it apart, for next time.
It isn't easy! I'm pretty nerdy and good with my hands. Be very careful and very patient. There are small parts and wires that can very easily break.

Have you had any luck with this?I own an Orange San Francisco and cracked the amoled, unfortunately orange or any other site/company offers any repair AFAIK. I'm looking into repairing it myself, are amoled connectors compatible from one phone to another or are they manufacturer specific if you are aware of? I know this is a long shot but it doesn't hurt asking.

it would most likely have to be the same part
because the Galaxy S series are the only ones with that size AMOLED screen.
been there done that
i got a vibrant off of something awful for pretty cheap with a broken screen
first off you literally have to pry the screen off of the phone
and the bottom four buttons? there is a very thin ribbon cable that is glued to the screen
there are a few things youll need
1.really small screw driver (i got a glasses repair kit from the dollar store. worked great)
2.something to pry the screen off (used a screw driver from said kit)
3.balls. that ribbon cable is very very easy to break
first off you have to take apart the phone completely
i would even take off the one board that the screen connects to
then you need to pry off the screen very carefully
if your amold or whatever part is broken you're going to have to peel it off
it really sucks and makes you look like a bad 70s disco
after that it gets pretty simple
make sure you have something to hold the top and bottom part to the phone
mine isnt flush due to me being a jackass and not getting the right glue stuff to hold it down
after that it should work perfect like before
if anyone wants to trade me a new screen for the i9000 screen or buy me a screen (lol) i would make a very detailed video (not happy with the way the first attempt turned out)
post itt or pm me if you have any questions
So you are saying it should work, but what about the software part, won't there be any problems?

My GF broke the screen on her Droid Incredible, Verizon insurance wants $100 to replace it, so not sure it is worth it for this phone, and she has a few months left before her upgrade is ready. If i am going to try to fix it for her, can anyone with experience tell me what parts specifically I would need? The LCD seems fine, so i would think i can replace just the digitizer, which i can get on Amazon for $16
http://www.amazon.com/Incredible-Sc...ement-Adhesives/dp/B005TGX6X8/ref=pd_cp_cps_0
They also sell with front housing
http://www.amazon.com/Touch-Screen-Glass-Digitizer-Incredible/dp/B005L0XRRM/ref=pd_cp_cps_1
any tips which to buy or what to do etc?
Why would one/How does one know if they need to replace the LCD as well?
All touch aspects of phone working fine and seems like it's just the glass cracked.

I am no expert, but it would seem that if anything under the glass was broken, you would need to replace the lcd (that is, if you could see the lcd "leaking" or being distorted)

Unfortunately I have had the pleasure of replacing my digitizer twice. You definitely wanna buy it WITH the frame or housing. The adhesive is like industrial strength and you will end up breaking the original anyways when trying to remove the digitizer from it. I have to warn you that doing this repair yourself will void your warranty. Make sure the digitizer you get comes with the tools required to get the phone apart. You can get this as a package on eBay fairly cheap too. There are about 3-4 circuit strips that will have to be removed from their clips, don't be intimidated by them, but be gentle. Your first time is gonna take you a while, just be patient. If you need to do it a second time, its gonna be a breeze. PM me if you have any concerns during your repair.
yea get a digitizer also,
I had the same thing happen to me, it was a pain but there are a few videos on youtube
that should help you through it, though it doesn't sound like its that bad
Definitely go with the digitizer and housing replacement together. Bottom line, it will make your life so much less of a headache while replacing it.

I just replaced mine this weekend. I attached some before, during, and after pictures...
These were the guides that I followed:
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfpPS7oO4Q8
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJMAmKpk20c
Personally, I went with just the glass/digitizer (your first link) and it went fine. The glass is difficult to get out of the housing, but it's not that bad. It probably took me 20 minutes to get the old glass out, maybe 5 minutes of cleaning goo from the old adhesive, and probably another 5 minutes to put the new glass back on.
Some Tips:
The pry tool that comes with it is very cheap. I would suggest using it sparingly until you get to the LCD panel extraction and glass removal. You want it to be as in good of condition as can be when you get to those later steps.
Use a blow-drier to heat up the adhesive, and get it to the point where you almost cant touch it. I used some yellow kitchen gloves so I could get it a little hotter and still be able to hold it. I used a combination of my hands and the pry tool and worked mostly along the sides and top first, then separated the bottom last.
The guy in the youtube videos uses glue, but you shouldn't need that. It comes with pre-cut adhesive strips, which work great. One word of caution though... The sheet that they come on is scored for you, but I suggest using an x-acto to cut them out. This is especially important for the thin rectangle that goes around the outside of the glass. You really don't want to pull on that... you don't want it to get stretched or twisted. Summary: the strips work great, just be careful extracting them from the sheet they come on, and placing them on the phone.
Don't forget to get the red earpiece grill off of the old glass before throwing it away. You'll need to super glue that back onto the housing, but it's really easy to see where it goes. This should be the only thing you need glue for.
When removing the glass, cleaning up gunk from the old adhesive, and applying new adhesive, be careful of the electronics at the bottom for your capacitive buttons... you definitely don't want to harm or obstruct those.
This should probably go without saying, but make sure not to touch the inside of the new glass, or the LCD panel. You don't want fingerprints or dust inside the phone. Even if you don't touch it, I would still give it a shot of compressed air right before putting it in, just to make sure there's no dust.
I would say that it's probably worth the extra $10-12 bucks to get it with the housing already included, but it's definitely not necessary if you want to save a little money. As I said above, it only took me about a half hour to get the old glass out and the new glass in, and from what it sounds like, there is still some effort involved even if you get it with the housing (moving the circuitry from the old one). I wouldn't worry about breaking the frame... it's pretty strong. If you break it, you're doing it wrong. Although, if your frame has some scrapes and other assorted road rash on it like mine does (see first picture), then maybe you might want a new one anyway. Another consideration... the reviews on Amazon for the one without the housing are much better, but that could just be because of people who don't know what they're doing... who knows.
If you have any questions, I'd certainly be willing to help... PM me if you want. And if I'm going to be around when you go to actually do the replacement, I can give you my gchat address in case you have any questions during the process.
Slipped on ice cause I'm Canadian eh. In the fall I damaged my phone! Everything works... it just has horrendous cracks on the front lcd.

Would this item work for replacement or does it need a new set of lcd glass? (Costs like 150...and not really looking forward to the expense) I saw the guide in the general but don't know if it applies to me. My phone is perfectly functional... just cracked and you can feel them when running your finger over it.
Thanks.
You should be okay with just the outer glass and not the digitizer too - but check out some tutorials on here and YouTube on how to do it.
It's pretty tricky and it's a regular occurance that I see people saying that while trying to do that, they broke their digitizer or something else - having to buy the more expensive thing, too.
I would say that I'd try it, but I'd watch a few videos before deciding and maybe seeing how much someone with experience would charge.

You cracked the screen on your s3 eh? Instead of buying a screen replacement for the i9300, i would just buy the screen replacement for the t999 just to be safe eh. The i9300 and t999 may not have the same innards eh.
I suggest you get a case such as otterbox or uag so you don't crack the screen again eh.
Be more careful around ice eh.

Okay, now that I'm on my desktop...
The auction you linked to is kind of overkill - if you only damaged the glass and not the housing itself, just look for an auction with only the front glass part. I've seen them for about half that, though I don't know if shipping will be an issue.
I've seen people here interchange even pickier parts between models, so I'd be surprised if an i9300 front glass piece didn't work for the t999 since it's one of the most generic pieces (otherwise, how would people design cases and such that fit the outside of all models ?). Heck, someone showed the phone opened up and they didn't even bother to stamp some of the parts with the "correct" model number, just using them interchangeably since most of the phone is the same across all models. Since this is just the housing, I'd doubt it's any different - I'm sure a quick Google search would reveal if it's true or not.
I bought a t999 one. Unfortunately it says t-mobile on it but I couldn't find one that didn't! I also got one for my s2 that is cracked. Didn't know this was possible. Thanks for the help eh... Beastmode.
Thanks guys.
Just be careful - and make sure the S2 is capable of having the glass only removed, too (they look pretty similar, but on some phones it's unfortunately not possible and people sell the glass only as a scam).

Ugh ordered it already... crap! I see threads on it by Googling it so I'm assuming I'm safe from having to worry about this. I don't think I feel comfortable doing this operation myself so I'll see if some of the mall stands for whatever can do it and I'll hand them the part for installation only. Better safe than sorry!
Thanks eh
The question is: is it possible to change the full housing to black? I have a white SGS2 but it has scratches all over... Also that silver edge is pretty much damaged from falls.
I was browsing around and found out that there are full housings for sale, but what about the amoled screen if I want to change the phone color?
Thanks in advance!

The screen is mounted to the frame (midsection of the casing, which is integrated with bezel) by a sticky tape -- ~1.5 mm wide all around the perimeter, and in some areas in the middle. When you buy a complete casing, it comes with the tape attached, so it's ready for you to mount the screen onto it. It will also show you where exactly the tape is located under the screen. The tricky part is do detach the screen from your old casing. Usually, it's done by heating it (carefully!) with a hot air gun, or even a hairdryer -- it will soften a glue layer and allow you to pry off the screen without cracking it. It's not that difficult, but if you are not comfortable doing it yourself, seek some help from an experienced person -- an electronics repair guy, or a seasoned DYI'er. However, keep in mind that sh*t happens, and there is still a chance to break the screen in the process, or fry it by overheating...
Thanks for the answer, kt-Froggy.

I can only tell you where I bought mine... Not sure how trustworthy this source is, but it worked for me. I usually buy my stuff on Amazon. Delivered faster than promised, looked and worked as advertised, no problems with quality, so I was happy with it.

Looks promising... There's something else I should add. I'm using Samsung's original extended 2000mAh battery, so I should also look for the extended back cover which is different from the original one.
Take a look at this: LINK
So I just bought a tab s 10.5 on ebay with some pretty bad screen burn in and I'm trying a burn in fixer now but I'm thinking down the line I'll probably just replace the screen. I've looked at some videos of the process and I think I can pull it off myself but the videos all end before its completely taken apart. By that I mean the screens I see for sale have no brackets or connectors its just a screen with its chipset and a ribbon I think. The end of those take apart videos show a screen with a black tape thing in the middle and bracket all around. Is it easy to take off that bracket?
I can't post links or i'd post the video and a link to the replacement lcd but to sum it up, the end step of the take apart video and the lcd replacement look different and I'm wondering if anyone knows if its hard to move those parts over to the new lcd.
honestly, in my experience, burn in "fixers" are useless.. lol.. I had a 8.4 with burn in and got used to it. but what I would do if I were you if look for a broken tab s with good screen and swap parts. like on ebay find something like.. good lcd, but reboots.. or good lcd but doesn't turn on.. stuff like that.. you be amazed at the pricing you can get. I swapped a tab s 8.4 once and it was pretty easy. I would think its the same situation. where did you see the how to? ifixit?

It was on youtube from Mengtor. One deal for $172 that has all those connectors/brackets on the lcd. I'm guessing its not that hard to port over if I have to though. I'll keep a look out for broken tablets though that's a good idea, thanks.
Edit, ok there's a broken bronze colored one at $7.50 bid right now, any idea if the bronze panel will work with the white model? I don't care about the color mismatch as long as it all works ><

It should..
Having the part number for YOUR present screen and the part number for the one you want to purchase might help insure you get a correct replacement. I don't know how critical it is with Samsung but on my Asus TF700 it was very important else all might be reversed! One difference in a REVISION number can make the difference of a working tablet or not.
