I would try a card reader and format the card.
Or you may have the partial usb brick problem. Try looking at the usb brick fix thread on modaco.

Sure, I did. I try to change other cards & sim card, but still can't work
Hi, anyone can help? Thanks for great help
Did you look at the USB brick thread? There are ADB commands to reenable SD card access there. Trying those should definitely be your first port of call.

I think you have a bad MicroSD from the infamous "bad batch of microSD cards" courtesy of HTC ...
we are still wondering if it is something wrong with the phone or with the microSD tho' ...
go buy another card, or get in touch with HTC to change it..

Did you read the usb bricked threads? The instructions to get you fully back up and running are in there.
Once you are fixed, only use rom manager, fake flash, or unrevoked to flash roms.

Hi everybody,
I really hope that you can help me out.
I'm having the same problem as the ts had initially: my HTC Desire doesn't recognize the sd card (Samsung micro SDHC 4gb) that is in it.
I've tried to follow up the steps 'chippieuk' has listed in the linked thread.
Everything went fine, until I reached steps 8 and 12, because my pc doesn't recognize the sd card either. (I've tried to put in two other computers and another phone, but it hasn't been recognized in any of them. I've also tried to use another sd card in the sd card readers and adapter, and that sd card was recognized, but it was a SanDisk micro SD 2gb.)
This is some background information.
Something like 7 months ago I rooted my HTC Desire (in the process of rooting I partitioned the sd card) and I put custom ROM 'opendesire v1.5' on it. I was satisfied with it, so I never changed it since then. But my HTC Desire stopped working properly something like 1 month ago. Everytime I switched it on, it went into bootloop. So last monday I did a hard reset via 'hboot' and it seemed to work again, but then I discovered that the sd card wasn't being recognized and that has been the problem ever since.
I have, btw., (temporarily) unrooted my phone with a RUU (android 2.1). I have not yet upgraded it to android 2.2, because I will probably root my phone again soon (if I will succeed with my sd card etc.)...
So... Have any of you got an idea? Could it be something with the readers that I've used (that they can't read micro sdhc cards...)? Or because I once partitioned it? I really don't know...
Once again, I would really appreciate it if you could help me.
Thanks.
Regards
I have SD Card problem too, i think you guys can help me.
My phone had a Vodafone rom so i installed LeeDroid 2.3 for Market. After i did it, i couldn't do anything from Rom Manager(Download error...). I installed my ROM 3-4 times but nothing changed.
It was working well but the phone memory was not enough for me, thats why i formatted my sd card and generated an EXT 4 partition (1536mb). I sent my files back to rest FAT32 partition and powered my Desire on. It didn't read see the SD Card (says SD Card is safe to remove all the time), so my phone can't read my SD Card. There is no problem when i plugged it into my pc. Also i can reach my phone over HTC Sync.
I can install new roms from bootloader but it's not changing anything.
So, i don't know what should i do or where should i look. I tried to install the original rom but i need GoldCard and i can't. Please help me to use my Desire again
Hey Guys,
it's me again haha.

So, I downloaded Backstab and need to download extra data, which are downloaded to SD...
Now I'm getting the message that there isn't enoght memory aviable.
So I looked into the file manager and saw, that all downloads, pictures etc. are saved on the "USB Storage" (→Internal SD).
Now my question is, how I can change the standard storage to "SD Card" (→External SD) , that my downloads, pictures (and of cause the data for Backstab) are saved on my "SD Card" (→External SD), where are 8GB free instead of the 72MB on "USB Storage" (→Internal SD).
Hope you understand what I mean ; my english isn't the best, I know
Thanks in Advance

I got that same problem when d/l additional data for games, etc.
Any sollution for it?

App 2 SD (move app to SD)
You can find this tool in the android market.
Note not all apps can be moved but this may help.

That app only moves apps from the Device Memory to the internal SD, not to the external one.
If your phone is rooted (if it isn't, I'd advise you too, although I reckon you should first research the pros and cons - and your warranty is voided), you can use ROM Manager to change the default path App2SD puts your apps into, or you can flash a ROM with internal/external memory swap.
Short version: both of these solutions require your phone to be rooted. If it isn't, then my post isn't of any help but there might be someone more knowledgeable out there who actually knows another (better) way to do this.

This is not true.......
App2SD moves Apps to External SD, if you have normal /etc/vold.fstab, with mount points as normal, not swapped.
This App is really just a GUI to do what you can do with native Android Apps 2 SD....and it gives Notification if a d/l App can be moved, i.e. coded by dev.
To actually see what Apps are on External SD, if you have moved them, use Storage Analyser free from Market.
See samples from my phone:

You can clearly see, I hope, Apps which have been moved to External SD, in /sdcard/external_sd/.amdroid_secure.
These Apps were moved with App2SD.
Also, if you look at the pic below, of Settings/Manage applications/On SD card tab.....this shows those Apps which have been moved to External SD, which have a check-mark, e.g. Google+.....you can also see G+ above, clearly in external .android_secure folder
and it also shows those Apps which can be moved, or are coded to by dev.
btw...the USB Storage message on bottom is just information!!
USB Storage or Internal SD, is intended for Storage of Data relating to Apps, Pics, Music, Game Data, etc.
USB, or Internal SD, cannot be used, normally, for Apps, i.e. as in App2SD
I see. I was wrong then. Thank you for the useful post. It turns out I was fooled by the "USB Storage" bar, since it seems to imply they're stored in the internal memory.
But I don't think that'll really solve his problem, as from what I understood, the application data is still stored in the internal SD. So I still think the internal/external swap would be the best solution for him. Specially since he also complains about the pictures and stuff.
Either way, that ended up being an important piece of info for myself, so I thank you again for correcting me.
Thanx Dusk252
You are correct re OP......
if you wish to store loads a game data or photo stuff....
I think that is what the swap was designed for....it will give you potentially 16/32G for this data....I feel you will need a good SD....like at least Class 6....
And Apps can be moved to the smaller Internal SD....which could be good.....
On my last device I needed to use DT's A2SD..with 1G ext-3 partition on SD for Apps.....so this phone is pretty good.....
Just on the OP....it is a pity that most Apps seem to be written with the /mnt/sdcard as default external Storage....
something devs should keep in mind!!!

But I don't understand how I can swap the internal/external :S
could you please explain it to me.
Thanks in advance

You have too ways of doing that (technically, three). But please understand before trying any of this that your phone must be rooted!
1. Manually edit the /etc/vold.fstab file (non-recommended unless you can find a good tutorial specifically for Galaxy W, since different devices might have different mount points. I wasn't able to find one, but my research took me 2 min so you might be able to find one.)
2. Replace your vold.fstab file with an already edited one. Here's a nice tutorial on how to do it.
3. Flash a custom ROM which already has this tweak. Like this one, for example.
backstab is gameloft ryt? y not try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091455 it work on asphalt adrenaline and dungeon hunter, what it does is it changes the file path of the data, so that your data can be save on your external_sd, just follow the steps there, hope that helps
edit: ow sorry that link is for LG but i find one for samsung like: "Auto_Patch_APK_for_Samsung_by_Duero__include_Java_" just search for it
edit2: i found it http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1129134.html just try if the download links are still working
Hi all, this may have been asked a thousand times but I cannot find a definitive answer to this. I bought a 64GB Sandisk Micro SD Class 6 card to use for all my games and stuff. I received it today and tried putting it in my phone. It always shows as damaged card, so I tried the proper steps of pulling down the notification bar, selecting the card and the phone told me it would need formatting, so I clicked format.
But to my dismay the bloody phone formatted the internal USB storage so I lost all my pictures and personal stuff!!!
To add insult to injury, I cannot get this bloody card to format and work no matter what I try. I haven't formatted or partitioned it in my PC, only tried through the phone.
Please, please can anyone help???

Sorry, I would have posted it up as soon as I sorted it but I was in a flap trying to get my phone back up and running properly.
What it seems to boil down to is that custom ROMs generally don't format the external SD cards correctly, or so I read somewhere on a thread on XDA (I think it was in the T989 thread or something like that). I used the free EaseUS Partition Manager tool to first remove the partition on the card (64GB formatted to exFAT), then create a new 64GB Fat32 partition. I don't know whether it was necessary but I flashed Samsung standard LP7 Rom to my phone and fully factory reset the phone.
After that was done, I inserted the 64GB card, booted up and went through settings-> storage and erased the SD card to make sure it was formatted correctly for the S2
...and voila
Hope that helps someone out
Get the app undelete to restore your deleted stuff
My SD card was working out of the box with Galaxy S2. I just formatted it and that was it
Just got a Galaxy S3 last week and the same SD was driving me insane with message
SD damaged after copying 59 GB of music to the phone
It was playing music without problem but as soon I restart the phone it would through error SD damaged
After so many tests I just found out that KIES is the one was corrupting my SD card
I tried copying my music with Sandisk data manager, mediamonkey, adding music folders manually and it works flawlessly, restart and not problem
All this app recognize Galaxy S3 quicker than SAmsung KIES, KIES takes a while sometimes to connect to the phone
Hope Samsung update KIES because it doesn't work with GALAXY S3 for uploading 59 gb of music
I was about to send my SD to amazon and get a refund, thanks I didn't do it
Happy days after so many days of testing
Hi guys
I also had the same issue with sandisk 64 gb card but couldnt find any solution n had to get two cards returned.... i dont use kies or any other thing. It also got damaged on first restart after copying 30+gb data on it. Couldnt find a damn solution. Now i have ordered a kingston 64 gb one to c if it makes any difference. Any idea by anyone to check it in a proper manner n maje it properly usable?
Thanks in advance

and connected to the pc with a sd - to - usb adapter:

it will show 59.4 gb in easeUS as well
does that make any sense at all?
I bought this to put into my Samsung Galaxy S3 and opted for the Sandisk name due to previous purchases and reputation. Many people have said to format the card via the phone before use so I did this, or tried to, but it just kept saying that it was in an incompatible format and the process could not be carried out! Ok, a little frustrating but I thought I'd just use the supplied adapter and format it via my laptop. Similar message from Windows - not able to complete the format, the disc may be corrupted!!! I tried this several times on both the pc and the phone and nothing. Very poor in my opinion and it has been returned for a refund.
Thanks! This really saved my day
I ended up getting a 64gig Sandisk super duper card (or whatever it is called). I plugged it into my computer via a USB adapter, and it worked fine. Then I formatted it in FAT32 with the tool suggested in previous posts, and that worked fine. Then as I was copying stuff over (it was still plugged into the computer, my phone was in USB mode transferring data), the transfer froze. I unplugged it, and it was warm. So I tried again, it worked for a bit, and then would freeze. Not sure what the issue was. So I returned it to Best Buy, and they are sending me a new one. Hopefully this one works.
Any tips or suggestions other than formatting it with that utility? Could it really just have been the card itself?
Got one last night, formatted it using the program suggested, no dice. Getting a "damaged card" notification, nothing I can think of is working.
Formatted on my PC, formatted using a Mac, formatted using a linux terminal, nothing seems to work.
Anyone have any ideas on what else I can do to rectify this issue? :/
Or is it safe to assume that it's a defective card?

Hi, know what you're going through. See my post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698672&page=9
The guiformat tool under the link luigig posted worked great. (I'm too new a member to repost the link here.)
If it doesn't work I suspect you really have a damaged card. There are some known bad batches.
Had an a media scanning issue on my new SGIII (At&T), from my sandisk 64 card. which was previously formated at 32. I used OP's method and so far so good. I also transfered my files to pc and ran defragler on them as i had a media scan issue. I transfrered all pictures with no intent on putting them back since they were from my old atrix. No problems as yet. I will try to transfer from phone to pc to see if i get the freezing. If i do, you will hear back from me. If not THanks OP:good:
try to format it using your pc. (as a FAT32)
format 64GB
What you should do is download a free partitioner program like Easeus Parttition manager. You should make two partitions on your sd card with a max of 32 GB. Format both of them as Fat 32. Once done, put it back in your phone, it is now recognized and you can reformat the card in your phone. It pops up as a 64 GB card now.
Good luck.

The ultimate solution !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First u have to use an external card reader coz 99% of the problem is that i mean do not use ur laptop card reader but use a multicards reader coz laptops card reader r not designed for micro sd 64Go once u plug in ur micro Sd u should run a small software BOOTICE ( it's been attached to this post ) , u will see the real size right after in th picture 1
Fist u should update ur exFAT ( look to the attached files)
after that follow the steps on pic 2 , 3 , 4 ...the idea is to reformat ur card with single partition with exFAT and not FAT32 the exFat is an update given with microsoft it's been attached also.
Remember the prob comes from ur card reader and always use an external cards reader like the one used to format ur sdcard ....if u have any other question am here
warm regards
Nice! thx

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Flashing a rom / kernel / package wouldn't fry the external sd card. Most likely the sd card is corrupt. I'd try formatting it again using windows, or linux, if available, fat32 format. if the sd card continues to show 'unexpectedly removed,' then the card itself is damaged and will need replacement.

Well, all I know is it worked perfectly fine until I flashed that kernel. When I rebooted from recovery, the card began throwing that same error. I tried several things, to no avail. The only time I've physically handled the cars was putting git in the phone 2 months prior. I tried formatting the card from my phone, and I've tried using an SD adapter & formatting from a PC (tried multiple adapters & multiple PC's) - none of them worked. Card is totally "bricked."

Well i try anything , 32fat format and some "health" program to sd cards
I dont know what is the problem.
Now the card is working but there is this message "sd card unexpectedly removed"
Sometimes it just wont load the files in sd external SD .
ill check the card with another phone and update.
This is really bumming me out. Just started experiencing this problem this morning.
I flashed FreeG 2.0 and it suddenly disappeared. Couldn't restore nandroid cuz all my nandroids are on my ext sd. But then out of nowhere, it re-mounted. So I was able to restore my cm10 nandroid. But now it's gone again.
Not sure if it's a problem with the sd card or S3. It's a fairly new Sansdisk 32G class 4.

HAHAHAHAHAHA Love it!
Had the same issue with my S3.
Turned out that the SD card was dying, this caused it to be unmounted by itself and then mounted again (sometimes showing notification “sd card removed unexpectedly”), hence triggering the media scanning process.
I created an application to monitor how many times the SD card was removed, and turned out to be unmounted every ~3 mins!!!
I then bought a new Transcend 32GB Class 10 card, and until now, this never happens, no reports from the application whatsoever, and no media process eating my battery.
I just published this app in the play store now, this is the link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sdcardmonitor
So I recently flashed the marshmallow resurrection remix ROM on my M8 and it was cool...been using it for some time now...no bugs whatsoever...until I decided to insert an SD card for the first time ever since the flash...as usual upon first insertion it tells you to format it into either internal storage or the other option (forgotten the main terms they used)..now I already know that there's an SD card bug on all CM powered Roms..but the way the error occurs on my device is abnormal...after I select how I want it to be formated and start the formatting process it immediately crashes in like 2 seconds and returns to my home screen leaving this error code

Most people with the SD card problems complain of the formatting process being stuck or moving forward to a certain level and then crushing or something...but non of them complains of this kind of error...can someone please look at this and help me?

I haven't seen that particular error. When I've had problems with CM13 reading the SD card, what sometimes works for me: insert the SD card into a card reader attached to my Windows PC. Then Windows pops up a dialog box, which indicates there is a problem with the card, and you can pick whether to fix it. I forget the choices, but there is a quick one, and a slower one. I pick the quick one, which just takes a couple minutes; and also preserves the data on the SD. Then re-insert SD into device, and CM13 seems to read it fine. This doesn't always work, but often does to fix the problem with CM13 reading the SD.
May or may not work in your situation, but just throwing it out there, as its worth a try.

But here's the thing...I placed that same SD card in another M8 using the ViperOme lollipop ROM and it seemed to format and most as internal memory or external storage just fine...so I'm sure it isn't a hardware problem

Removable storage is what you want. I'm pretty sure you'll run into problems if you try to format as internal storage (it becomes a part of the internal storage associated with the other M8) and swap the SD to another phone.
Why not try what I suggested, just to see if it works or not? It just takes a couple minutes, so it couldn't hurt. That is, unless you don't have a card reader connected to your PC.
Just tried your way...still giving me the same error...it crashes immediately when the formatting process starts...don't even think it even gets time to initiate the process..could it be that this particular ROM is bugged?

If you try another ROM, and don't get the problem; than its pretty likely a bug in the ROM. But on the other hand, if its a problem with the ROM, I would think that others would have reported it in the ROM thread.
Is your firmware up to date?
