I am On paranoid 2.99 and i didnt like the way that the led would blink in Deep orange for low battery and Notification so i was trying a few LED control apps .. and Found:
Light Flow Lite - LED Control : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflowlite&hl=en
this works Partially . i could set my SMS notifications to Green .. and this supports 3 Colors only on our device .. Dark Orange , orange (kinda yellow) and Green
just thought it will be useful for people to know ..
be careful when using such apps. it MIGHT screw your phone.
Yup ! .. just Make a NAND backup just to be safe ! I made a backup ! .... the app is working fine for me ! .

Yeah I had actually used this app in the past and the led goes out of control, especially if you set it to green/ and /or other colors..

i'm running aokp but i installed the app yesterday and found that this doesn't work at all. It can only change the color of the first flicker and still shows the led light even if you turn it off. useless.
I can change the colors of the LED from the source files - there is actually a Java file that controls the LED and it is commented -
This device has only 3 LED colors. Do not try to parse any other colors.

You can't change the trackpad as it's only a white LED. The notification LED is a tricolor (green, amber and red) however I'm not sure as to how to change what color shows when; granted I don't see why you'd want to as it makes sense how its set up now (green=charged/notification, amber=low, red=almost dead)

a app i use to change how fast and how often the led or trackpad led light flashes is Ledmeknow. its free on the market and works great. so far there is no way to change the color of the led

LEDMeKnow has issues with CM7 and Themes .
Its odd noone has found a way to change it. Like said, the top one is only one LED and it is amber/green which should be able to be modified.
Haha I remember the G1 lit up blue when you had a Facebook notification

LedFlow only allows me pattern changes and from what I see only Green and Amber. Have you tried it and have you gotten Blue and Red and Yellow and other colors?
Noone have any information at all?
An LED's colour is a function of the hardware, and thus you cannot change it in software. It would be like giving you a can of red paint, and asking you to paint the room blue.
If only 1 color is included in the phone you won't be able to change the color..post above me was good lol

Hmmmm if we had the right tools would be able to physically change the trackpad LED colors???

When rooted, some phones have LEDs that can be changed to any color.
the point remains the same. those "some phones" are not the Desire Z nor is it a G2.
The fact remains the same: trackpad only shines white and the notification light only shines green or orange (maybe red, i'm not sure).
Refer to the post you quoted for a layman's term on why the DZ/G2 can not change to any color you want.

If by "tools" you mean a soldering iron and a bin of multicoloured LED modules, then yes.

Sure, and those phones would already have LEDs capable of doing that. But if your phone has, say, a green LED in it, you cannot somehow use software to convince it to emit any light other than green. You might as well ask if software can turn a 480x320 display into a 1280x720 one. The answer, again, is "no".

I wasnt sure if it had a LED capable of that as it the LED in it transmits orange and green.
And the display is one of the worst examples ever: You can thru software make your display display whatever resolution you want.
Looks like an interesting App for controlling your LED notifications. Try it out and report your findings!

I'm using Handcent & I got a magenta light for when my girl texts me. I did choose the color "green" tho.
I am getting three color choices with Light Flow paid version. Blue, red and purple.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
what are you talking about, Purple does not work with paid version, it's red and blue!!!
Purple is a choice in the paid version for me. Of course, the actual color is more like magenta but it does work. I have Direct Mode checked in the General Settings menu.
Good to hear some feedback on this...similar results here. Wishin we had more color options!
I've only found three that work:
setting > looks like
Blue > Blue
Green > Purple
Red > Red
Purple is of course just red+blue lit simultaneously.
This is in Pro version, NOT Direct Mode.
White = fast blinking red color.
Also I noticed that the led stays lit for a long duration of time when you choose red or blue. Then it blinks off really quickly and back to on...kind of like the reverse of how it is normally. Any way to fix that?
Thanks for pointing out that white will rapid flash. That is just what I needed!
this did not work for me at all? does it only work on rooted phones?
Dont know if anyone uses kicker but my led stays magenta when I get a message

Hi
Just for info. There shouldn't be any difference between the free version and the paid version of LightFlow for color controls as they both use the same code. The only differences are the length of time it takes to cycle around the notifications and the number of apps supported.
As for the colors, the app just sends an ARGB value to the phone (when running in standard mode) and then it's up to the phone to work out how to interpret it. It's good to know white allows for rapid flashing (odd interpretation there samsung, but at least it's more choice). This is the quote from the android development documentation regarding color representation "Not every color in the spectrum is supported by the device LEDs, and not every device supports the same colors, so the hardware estimates to the best of its ability."
If anyone wants to have a play with the app "LED color tester" by coolbeans in the market to see if they can get any more colors (e.g. rapid blue flashing etc) then let me know and I'll try get the extra option put into lightflow. Note, to test using LED color tester, you'll need to uninstall lightflow first as lightflow will take over the notifications, preventing control by the tester app.
Direct mode writes to the files directly in unix that control the leds. At the moment it'll write out a 0 or a 1 to the brightness file for either the red or blue led. My guess is that some other values allow for the flashing. If only there was some consistency between phones, things would be so much easier! I'm also planning to add the option to allow custom brightness values to be sent for the leds which may help control things a little more.

i too use lightflow i love it and you can change the pulse rate of the LED and much more!
Some apps can also configure the notification light autonomous. Like with whatsapp for instance you can chose a green (or any other color) light in the settings.

I'm after a Jelly Bean ROM for my Desire. Was going to pick the AOKP ROM but then discovered that it only supports green led light notifications. I'd like something with multi-colour notification support. I also need GPS and WiFi tethering support. I did try searching other threads on here but didn't find any explicit references to multi-colour led notification support.
Any recommendations?
AFAIK the desire doesn't support multicoloured led lights. Green is our only option.

I dont think the Desire supports any other colour than its own, i could be wrong though
The Desire LED is definitely multicoloured, however a few custom ROMs i tried disabled various different combinations of colours and blink rates, think it's kernel related. I currently get blinking green for WhatsApp, and solid blue for Go SMS pro even though I try to change the colour within settings. Used to have pink as well, haven't seen that in years...
It used to be very useful on SMS apps before I rooted, I set a different colour and or blink rate for different contacts
I can't remember if I tried LED me know before, don't know if it's support anymore, worth a shot
From what I've read, the Desire LED supports:
Red
Green
Orange
Blue
White
Magenta
Purple

Mine's rooted and I'm running a custom 2.3.3 ROM...still supports multi-colour so rooting is not the cause of the problem.
I've given up on finding a Jelly Bean ROM with multi-colour led notification support. Is there an ICS ROM that can suit my needs?
Take a root explorer and navigate to " /sys/devices/virtual/leds/lcd-backlight/subsystem/" (may different on some roms). The folders green blue and amber are for the notification led, you can switch them on by setting the brightness file to 255 and switch them of by setting 0.
You can also use some combine, the desire hardware (and most kernels) supports multiple led colors, but no rom really use them for notifications.

There seems to be a misunderstanding. I don't want to switch on the led light manually. I just want the light to flash green when I have a missed call / new email and blue when I receive a new SMS. This is exactly what my phone does now with Android 2.3.3 and Handcent SMS. However, I read that Jelly Bean only supports green colour led notifications.

Check Settings > Screen > LED Notifications > Other apps (the item at the bottom of the list).
You can change or without an app it has 6-7 colors, red green blue, purple, ponk , turquoise etc.. You can edit a contact and change their color when you get a text or call.

The LED can show every colour, not only red, green and blue. You can test it in the hidden menu(in the phone type 3845#*855#),going in HW test and then in touch LED test.
