now i have Shamanix WM6 Ultimate 2.1 FINAL ROM WWE on Japanese Softbank X01HT. have installed support for Japanese. so when i open hardware keyboard i can you it's japanese layout with hiragana/katakana and english layouts. is it possible to add any other layouts?
i need russian one. i have on-screen russian keyboard using pocketCM. but i need hardware one, cuz on screen is pretty bad, especially when i need to type a big volume of text. it just annoys me to use stylus (
I'm in the reverse of your situation: have russian and english and want pinyin.
You can try AEKMap (http://ae.inc.ru/aekmap.php), but it has side effect of disabling your OK key altogether.
By the way, can you just tell me in PM how did you get japanese layout and precisely how do you switch english/hiragana/katakana?

For those who still want it:
http://hn801.hkes.com/Data/SIP/CHS_IME_Q.zip adds Pinyin to any keyboard layout (which I changed to Russian). After that, you can toggle Russian <-> English by pressing the Tab/RU/whatever-you-have-to-the-left-of-Space and English <-> Chinese by tapping 英 and 拼 on Pinyin SIP.
For the software keyboard I have a wide selection of languages and I use Romanian. The layout is the standard QWERTY, but when I long-press some letters, I get access to a few special romanian characters (ă, â, ș, etc.).
The problem I have is with the hardware keyboard. I can only choose English and that's almost fine. I have all the special characters I need when I long-press the letters, but there is only one I miss ("ă" / "Ă"). This one I will get when long-pressing "a" on the software keyboard, but not on the hardware keyboard.
Is there any way to add more hadrware keyboard languages, or somehow edit/add characters to the English configuration? Or should I just send some "hate-mail" to HTC and wait a long time for a fix?
No ideas?
Do any of you have other language options for the hardware keyboard, while the actual keyboard is the standard qwerty?

Hopefully I'm in the right forum. The Samsung Note II model I'm looking at getting is the Canadian version (SGH-i317M), and the AT&T model (SGH-i317) is the closest.
I'm getting the phone mostly for CJK (Chinese/Japanese/Korean) handwriting recognition. My Samsung Galaxy SII (I9100) has Korean handwriting built into the Samsung IME, but I don't know what the Note II situation is like.
I've emailed Samsung, and here is their reply:
We understand that you want to know whether download the language packs from the Play can handwriting recognition.
We are glad to help you with the information.
By download language packs from Play Store may suppor Chinese/Japanese/Korean handwriting recognition.
We are not sure that language pack support Chinese/Japanese/Korean handwriting recognition.

I am able to write (handwriting) chinese using the stock keyboard. I only had to to download the Chinese package and its all in the setting.
Not sure about korean and Japanese though.

I have the AT&T Note. It most definitely works with Korean hand writing recognition without having to install any third party apps or google apps. You can select Korean as one of the input languages in the settings and that's pretty much all you need to do.

I am basically in the same boat as you, and I wanted to let you know what I've found out.
I have an AT&T sgh-I317. If I go into Language and Input> Samsung Keyboard, there are two places you can select "Input languages". One is for the top level keyboard settings, and one is specifically for handwriting. Basically, it looks like this:
Settings> Language and Input> Samsung Keyboard> Input Languages
Settings> Language and Input> Samsung Keyboard> Handwriting> Input Languages
When I went into Settings> Language and Input> Samsung Keyboard> Handwriting> Input Languages, "日本語" (Japanese) was listed as an "Available Language", so I downloaded it. Doing that, however, did not allow me to input Japanese from the stock Samsung Handwriting Input Method. For example, when I tried using the Samsung Input Method to enter text in my dictionary app - even though I had Japanese downloaded - I could still only select English.
I then went back into the settings for the "Samsung Keyboard", and this time went into the top level Settings> Language and Input> Samsung Keyboard> Input Languages menu. By default, I had Deutsch, English (US), Espanol (US), Francais (FR), Italiano, and Korean listed as "Downloaded Languages". Of those, only English (US) was enabled. On that same screen, there is a section for "Available Languages". There are a huge number of languages included in that second list, but Japanese is NOT one of them.
As an experiment, I enabled Korean on this screen, and then went back to the Settings> Language and Input> Samsung Keyboard> Handwriting> Input Languages menu, and enabled Korean there as well. After having done that, I was able to select Korean from the stock Samsung Handwriting Input Method.
From that, I have come to the following conclusion.
Samsung DOES have the Japanese Language pack available for download as a "Handwriting" input language (Settings> Language and Input> Samsung Keyboard> Handwriting> Input Languages). It will work, but it only functions as part of a "Handwriting-to-text" portion of the "Productivity Tool" that is present in the S-Note application.
Samsung does NOT have the Japanese Language pack available for download for the top level keyboard (Settings> Language and Input> Samsung Keyboard> Input Languages). Since they do not have it, you cannot enable Japanese there, and this prevents you from using Japanese Handwriting recognition anywhere other than that one S-Note application.
In short, it makes Japanese Handwriting effectively worthless. They really need to add Japanese to the list of available top level input languages.
EDIT: I wanted to add that I checked the Google Play Store, and I don't see any official Samsung Japanese (or any other) "Language Packs". When they told you that you could download them, I think they meant from inside the settings menus like I told you I was able to do.

I know S-Note can export as PNG (not so good for note writing) and PDF. But 1) is the PDF an image or actual selectable text that can be copy and pasted out? I'll live with that! and 2) what HasC said, exporting it out as a text (file? message?) works?

Haven't figured out how to use handwriting to input Chinese. In one of the settings it says you can input Japanese and Korean by handwriting, but in another setting it says you can also input Chinese. I am confused. I am still exploring. This is a lot of fun.

To input via Chinese Handwriting with the stock Samsung Keyboard to have to have Chinese (中文) downloaded/enabled in both of these places:
Settings> Language and Input> Samsung Keyboard> Input Languages

Once you've done that, you should be able to go to the app you want to use Chinese Handwriting in, make sure you have "Samsung Keyboard" selected as your Input Method, click the handwriting key on the keyboard (it's the one directly left of the space bar - it looks like a T with a pencil next to it), and then press/swipe the spacebar to select "ZH(CN)". After you do that, you will be inputting via Chinese Handwriting (I'm not sure whether it is traditional/simplified, as I do not speak Chinese).
Again, the reason that Chinese works, whereas Japanese does not, is that Chinese is available as the top level (Settings> Language and Input> Samsung Keyboard> Input Languages) Input Language. I don't understand why Samsung allows the option to download a Japanese language pack for Handwriting, but not for the top level keyboard. Not having it available for the top level setting, makes the handwriting setting useless.

This would be super cumbersome. You would be better off paying the $12USD for "7notes with mazec (Japanese)" (It's available on the Google Play Store. I'd give you a link, but I'm a new user here, and the system is telling me I can't use hyperlinks yet). 7notes is a note application, but it also comes with a Japanese handwriting input method that can be used anywhere on the device.

The Galaxy Note sold by Docomo in Japan is capable of using the Japanese handwriting to input text into any app as a regular input method. And it works beautifully--not dependent on stroke order for any character with more than 4 strokes or so (I entered some way, way out of order) and forgiving of misplaced, missing, and extra strokes. Korean, Chinese, and English input methods also available on the device, nothing to download. You can also switch the interface language to english, korean, or chinese (or of course japanese), so you're not stuck with a japanese interface. I spent about half an hour playing with on in the store today and used japanese handwriting to enter text to notes, word processing docs, calendar, browser search box, and a website.
If you happen to be coming through Japan, you can buy an unlocked one from Docomo. I don't know if they have the Note II available yet.
All of that suggests there may be a way to make it happen. You may want to search to see if anyone's cooked up a ROM based on the Docomo ROM yet (might have to search in Japanese).

For those of you who are using the SGH-i317M from Telus, we do not have Japanese language pack available, nor do we even have Handwriting > Input Languages. I can't even get Chinese handwriting to work.

Thank you for the tip! I mean, on one hand, I'm sad that Samsung (or perhaps, due to licensing, our carrier) is not able to offer this built in. On the other hand, I'm happy to support app writers who bring me the apps that I need!
TL;DR: I guess Samsung didn't give the SGH-i317M (ie. Canadian Note II) CJ handwriting options (K is okay). Until we can get at the ROM, we'll just have to live with 3rd party ones.

I'm using the GT-N7100 ALJ3 and I've got no Samsung Keyboard> Handwriting> Input Languages option
Any way I can just install an .apk into the /system to enable it?
I can only use the English handwriting mode

I doubt that will ever happen.
You may have to get 3rd party support.
I see Japanese as an option in the handwriting language list, but not in the keyboard list. If it's not listed in the keyboard list I can't actually select it while using the handwriting keyboard (which seems rather broken to me). Anyone know how to get this going?

I'm not sure if this is what you want - try Google Japanese Input.
After install, you can enable them in your Settings > Language and input.
Google Translate does japanese handwriting rocognition too.
you need the keyboard and libs from a Japanese ROM. Japanese isn't intergrated into the Samsung keyboard. It has its own Samsung Japanese keyboard. There is another thread around that lists the stuff you need to extract from a Japanese ROM.
Else try third party like others suggested, Swype supports handwriting doesn't it as well?
