Working and easy way (at least for me on Rom I'm using) how to remove anoying system update message. This should work on every Rom version. I didn't tested. Phone need to be rooted.
It's stupid but works.
For people who need this info I'll explain how I manage to do it.
This is for people who getting update message and they don't want to update to official 4.1.2 or newer version.
-Download "System tuner" app from Google play store. (green android icon with blue monitor)
-start app and on main screen of app with a lot of icons choose "Tweaks"
-choose "Build" in upper menu list
-about at middle of list find row which saying "ro.build.version.release 4.1.1"
-press pen icon on left side of same row to edit version, just rename 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 and press OK
-reboot phone to load again system files edited.
-check for updates and you already will see, system is up to date. last checked time
easy...
-After this I think you can uninstall app if you don't need
After all you done, system won't be updated to new version but will pass system version check, may be it's not perfect solution but this works for me.
Would it work if I don't want to go 4.2 from 4.1.2 ?

I have a question for some of the experts. Can someone point me in the right direction to disable automatic OTA updates? I am currently using a ROM that is not being supported by the developer and would prefer to stick with it if possible.

No. OTA Updates have to be disabled by the chef of the ROM. In my case the Chef did not disable them and I am wanting to get rid of that damn annoying pop up that says there is an OTA update.
Here's how to fix it with Root Explorer (from the Market).
Open Root Explorer, scroll down to and click on "System". In the upper right corner, click on "Mount R/W". You will see a file called "build.prop", long press on it and select "open in text editor".
Scroll down, you are looking for a line that reads:
"ro.build.fingerprint=verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/231334:user/"
The 231334 might be a different number, but whatever it is, you need to change it to 264707, then save and exit, click on "Mount R/O", then reboot the phone. My notification was still up after I rebooted, however after tapping on it and hitting back, it went away. It shouldn't bug you to do the update anymore after that
For reference:

Thanks. This worked well.
In the future, please post your question in the q & a section instead of the development section. Thanks, and welcome to the community.
I have a little problem.
every time when I try to call my recent Apps (long press home) I dont get my recent apps, but rather a message "Unfortunately, System UI has crashed" then my status bare disappears and reappears again some seconds later.
reflash of system does not help.
Information:
International non-LTE non-DualSIM Note 2 (GT-N7100)
Firmware version N7100XXDME6
Root + Deodex
SImplistic Framework 3.6 (error was also before with SF 3.5.1 or when the mod was not installed after reflash)
What can I do? delete the data of specific system apps?
IF there is a way please without wiping.
did u freeze/uninstall google search (velvet.apk)??
if u do so, systemui surely crashes.
I think I disabled GSearch in settings.
I check now, just wait a bit.
Update: just enabled it, works now. thx

Are you on AT&T, rooted with CWM or TWRP recovery, and don't want to update to the new, currently un-rootable ROM, or take the chance that AT&T will push the FOTA update to your phone and attempt to install it without your knowledge? Here's one way to block it:
1. Download Autorun Manager from the Play Store.
2. Run Autorun Manager, give it SU privileges, and enter its Recommended Advanced Mode.
3. Go to Settings, check both "Show system entries" and "Enable system app disable", and return to the list of apps.
4. Scroll down to "Google Services Framework" and open it.
5. Scroll down the list until you see "com.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService$Receiver" (mine was at the bottom of the list). Uncheck this to Disable it.
6. Exit Autorun Manager.
That's it. FOTA updates are now blocked.
This info is available in various places here on XDA, and other places on the web. I'm just reposting it here for those that don't want to be bothered with the problems that can be caused by AT&T's pissy little update.

F#$K man. This is great...
I have been hit three times in a row by the latest little update from AT&T, and have each time ended with CWM Recovery loop. This is so effing wrong !! I have a post here on how to get out of the recovery loop
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2603454&page=7 post #70.
EDIT: This did not completely remove the painful notification and for somereasoon I could not delete the downloaded in "/system/cache". So I applied the update, then used adb to recover from the CWM loop and delete the Fota.img, rebooted. Then I also installed the FOTAkill.apk app here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2249350
Now the update is dead !!

Damn right it's WRONG! Deliberately borking folks that don't follow the master's rules. Especially those folks that have had the update pushed and automatically attempted install without their consent. Pure crap!

Good! Whatever works for you. My own experience with Android has been that a given "cure" will not necessarily work for everyone. As for the method I mentioned above I've gone 72+ hours without any data transfer related to the update. So far, so good.
Official OTA's aren't pushed out to those using an unlocked AT&T version on other carriers right?
Update FYI - 10 days now since making the adjustment in the OP and still no indication of my phone attempting any update.

What app is sending you these notifications? File Manager? App Manager?
Hold down on the notification until you see a bell and an i. Hit the i to get information.
There should be a box that says notifications on the app info... Uncheck that. Reboot the phone and see if it appears again (It shouldn't).

Hold down on the notification in your tray until you see a bell and an i enclosed in a circle. Hit the i to get app information.
Then uncheck the box for notifications from that app. Reboot and see if it pops up again.

If you're on Lollipop:
Hold down on the notification and get the info. Make sure it's unchecked (Could be a different app sending that one).
If it's already unchecked:
Go to your settings and find "Notification Manager". Enter this and hit "App notifications". Find the app that sent the above notification and tap on it. Now you can adjust it and set priorities and whatnot. For this, block notifications from it.
This may block notifications for system updates as well, but you can still check it manually. Plus, system updates don't happen very often so not seeing it won't really matter.
EDIT: Misunderstood what you meant... I underlined what to do in your case.
Edit 2: I'm running a custom ROM and that's how I would do it in my case. I failed to remember that the stock ROM may not have added these features, so you can also do this (for sure) but going to your settings and hitting apps, then scrolling over to all. Find the app manager (or whatever app uses the same icon as the one sending you the notifications) and click on it. Now you can uncheck the displaying of notifications from it.

Read that^^^
Also, unchecking notifications from "Google Service Framework" may remove notifications for these type of updates.
If you are rooted and already have SuperSU you can download Titanium backup and uninstall any app from your phone. BE CAREFUL BECAUSE SOME APPS ARE IMPORTANT. Also, make sure you backup the file before removing it via titanium (backup through titanium backup) in case you for some reason need it back. This may or may not remove the prompt to update the app, but way back when (if I remember correctly) it did for me.

Glad to hear it! If you ever have any more questions feel free to PM me.
Also, I would highly recommend you try out a free app called "LG Tweaks Box". It'll make your phone feel so much better and have tons of customization!
I'm not sure if this even/still applies but when I was on KitKat (LG G3 2GB) I rooted my device then used either Root Explorer or ES File Explorer File Manager and looked in the data\op folder on device and deleted anything I didn't want (mainly anything carrier related which was all of the H3G_COM folder (30 items) as it was a 3 UK handset) then reflashed firmware and wiped device and I have never had any apps forced on me since, i've even disabled auto restore of apps from Google Play on first sign in so I can be choose what I wanted installed at each reflash/wipe.
Back up the OP folder first as It is handy for later if ever needed
Again not sure if this even/still applies
Hope that helps
Thanks for the reply
But sorry to say that my Data/Op folder has no Carrier APPs
i have done a full search on phone an just cant find the junk
i still have a message saying i have 15 APPs to update even with APP update frozen with RootUninstaller

Try installing them then using titanium backup to remove them completely including all files.
Sent from XDA app via my LG G3 D851.
I have the N975U1 USA unlocked and when I try to check for a software update via wifi in setting it just shows checking an does not finish. There also a very quick pop up that occurs sometimes that says firmware firmware restriction or something like that ... it's so quick I can't read.
When I check via mobile data it works 100 percent and the most recent update I had to check and take off wifi check via data . Put back on wifi to download the update then finally take it back off to install it ..
I did do a cache clear via recoverery ... Please help

This advice might help a bit..
Regarding, the toast pop up that you can't read, you can either install "Nice Catch" which is part of Samsungs, Good Lock app.
If you can't download, Good lock app from
Galaxy Store then you can download /sideload, the stand alone apk, from Apkmirror web site.
Then manually install apk .
Please note if you sideload app, it won't show in app drawer. You have to use a shortcut method
eg Nove Launcher /(then long press on desktop screen .) /Nova widgets / activities , search for" Nice catch" and create short cut,. to desktop screen. Then tap on it and configure.
Otherwise, you can download an app from Play Store
eg. "Toast Source" (free app) etc.
This method is maybe faster and less hassle.?
If any of these above apps are enabled it will "catch/record" all you toasts as notifications and also save the toast pop-ups.
It might not solve you issue directly, but at least it is a start
to read the popup toast?
See screenshots
Good luck.
Will try thanks

I'm not sure how explain this......
but is you phone not a company device or has device some rental agreement , plan etc.
I have read on past post on XDA forums that members could not update, as their devices were "locked" ...?
Otherwise did you use any app like eg... App Disabler Pro etc etc.
That you disable an app and it has a knock on effect.?
Bottom line,
you now have a reason why not updating..
as toast says something "systems" is disable.?
Good luck..
yeah i might have to do a hard reset to see if that helps

Well toast says "systemfs" is disabled.
Well i personally can't disable it on my device as device is
stock not rooted etc. Also i have not used any disabler app.
For the "sysfs... @ systemfs??? " to be disabled, I'm sure you have to be rooted...?
or as stated above, you disabled some system app with a eg "Disabler Pro" app. etc.
Bottom line. again ..
Hopefully a factory reset should rectify the relevant system error..
Somehow it got corrupted.
Good luck.
