Is there a way to get quick reply like the aosp/CM roms have? I love that feature and I dont want to use an app like go sms.

I have been using this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.everythingandroid.smspopup just have to shut off notifications in the stock app or you will get double notifications.

would there be away to make it when i get a text message that my screen lights up instead of just haveing the LED blinking.. i keep my phone on vibrate most the time and would really like my phone to light up when i have an incoming text..??
What SMS app are you using? I know Handcent and GoSMS both support this feature (only 2 3rd party apps I've used for SMS).

thanks...new to android...i cant believe they left this out of the stock android.
With "Tasker" and the "Secure Settings" plugin, I have set mine to disable the lockscreen, wake the phone and open straight to the sms app.
THANKS @refthemc, the SMSAWAKE is a simple and usefull app!
I don't like the feel/look of the stock SMS app. Is there a better app that anyone recommends?

well i used to like handcent when using the xperia but the stock on sg2 i thinks not bad but as i use hide it pro go sms conflicts with it but i prob would use go sms as most of there stuff u can theme and easy to adjust settings wise.
Try GO SMS and HANDCENT SMS... they are into the market for free!
And you can test it.

Used GO SMS and Handcent before as well as chompSMS in the early days of Android. Go SMS is probably my favorite. I just like the way it looks
i find pansi sms light on resources and quite full featured. check it out.
Chomp sms beats em all with quick compose and quick reply from anywhere. Can't beat it imo

Just curious to see what people are using besides the stock app.

I came from an iphone and always used bitesms so when I got my gn2 I went straight for chompsms. It's really all I know but I love it.

Just got my Note2 yesterday and I'm still using the stock one for now. I'm trying to turn my GN2 into a Nexus, so I'm looking for an SMS app that is as close to the Vanilla Android SMS as possible.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
i personally prefer go SMS purely because of the crazy theming features + private box
Can you send pictures with GO sms? I heard it just sends a link?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317
I'm using the stock sms app themed
ChompSMS, I love how it renders picture messaging to full screen. Opposed to the stock which looks more like a thumbnail. GOSMS was to convoluted with options/themes for my liking.

i dont believe it does that......
I've been using Handcent for years. I love it, couldn't use anything else.
Using AOSP messaging app. I would use the Samsung stock, but the lack of vibrate options kills it for me.

Go SMS, been using them forever. You can send pictures, but sometimes I have problems with that. Only since I rooted my phones though. It gives me an error message, something along the lines of exceeding my file size limit. I just used the stock messenger to send mms/pictures.

I am very happy with stock... first time I've ever been able to say that. Prior to that, I used GoSMS and Handsent on all of my other devices. I forgot which one of the two I settled on. I want to say GoSMS was the better of the two IMO.
GoSMS here for years and I've been happy with it.
Stock sms app with sms pop up. Great combo and I am very pleased.
Using the stock for now

Used to love them but the look of it turns me away. And for some reason when i send mms while on wifi it wont send because it doesnt auto turn data on

If you look hard enough in the settings you can change the max size to send and stop it from shrinking your pictures. But like I said before if you see d through go SMS and the received doesn't have go it comes up as a link

In sound options theres a setting for vibration intensity and pattern also on the contacts app theres options for making vibrations specifically for a contact. I think there might be a limited amount though.

It doesn't. I think it's from an older version of AOKP. I'm not really sure where it's from. I found it in the themes and mods section under a similar thread.
Edit: I'm using the APK from here and then follow the instructions here
And this recently up in Themes/Mod sections might help

I don't like the vibrate options because when selecting vibrate in the SMS app, it vibrates in sound mode and vibrate mode. I only want it to vibrate in vibrate mode like my GS3 did on ICS.
For those using Go SMS, can you confirm if Go SMS sends you push ads in your messages? When I tried Go SMS I got a spam sms from them.
Stock message...for now.

Havent been on XDA for a while, but I searched for an updated stock messaging app thats been edited to remove the contact photos from every line in a text conversation and havent found anything yet. Just wanted to see if anyone uses another stock version that has the quick reply popup and also sends/receives pictures or if there is another app from the Play store that doesnt eat battery.

Its nice, but it doesnt do the quick reply pop up over the stock lockscreen. Always have to unlock and go to messages to read/reply. Kinda why I want to stick with a modified stock that just gets rid of the stupid contact photos.
