i think plex needs a also plex installed in my computer... if my computer is off it wont stream media to the phone. i like it like from my NAS to phone. where i like just to browse the NAS library and play it from my phone. i think bubbleupnp is the same as plex

Depends on the NAS I guess. How would you browse it from a remote pc?
You will need to configure port forwarding on your router at the very least. It may have some flash based streaming service built in, in which case you will need to side load the flash apk.

Havent tried it yet coz even tho I know how to port forward and stuff, I still dnt kno what to do on the phone side to or outside my network to view the files

Please provide the model/make of your NAS.
Can you connect to your NAS using its IP address in your browser? There may be a flash player option there. If so, just port forward port 80 to your NAS and connect to your network IP (whatismyip.com) from your mobile browser.

If your nas have upnp function, then use skifta + diceplayer (and ffmpeg plugin, useful for DTS tracks).

I settled with es file explorer... I played around with it yesterday. Interface is not that beautiful but all the things I need it delivers
I can navigate to my nas on lan with a read and write permission
And also setup my nas as an ftp server so now I can watch my movies away from home.

DLNA and HDMI Connection

Hi,
Anyone using any android device connected to hdmi TV to stream wireless video/screen from S3 to TV
Any suggestions? What software is required on the Android device?

You could try it with BubbleUpnp.
I am using ES File Explorer to access Movies/Music from my D-Link NAS box on the local network, I haven't hooked up HDMI, and I have only tested a few movies but seems to work ok.

What audio codec? At a guess I would say it is DTS audio, which recently became unsupported in MX Player due to "licensing issues" (same thing occurred in Dice Player too). Try to get an older apk for the app and see whether audio works if it is DTS audio.
That would be the first thing I would look at. Make sure what ever your using (app) supports the audio format your trying to play. If it does not you can simply convert the file to something else. There are many programs out there to do it.

Most support streaming via dlna type protocol. Ffound an app that does screen mirroring MirrorOp but lags.
A hw/sw solution xbounds looks amazing but no mention of availability yet.

Looking for a good Media app for network streaming

I have a linksys e4200 with a HDD connected by USB on it, i have a network set up so that apple tvs and other media devices can stream from it, but i have not yet found a good app that can do it on my GS3. I don't care if it's a paid app, i just want a solid nice looking streaming app.
You tried Plex?

Go for Wondershare. It's free, and works great for NAS as well as http/mms streams from online.

I found BSPlayer free...wow finally a good app, just entered my routers default ip and voila, streaming 1080p mkv videos with 0 lag
Plex is your answer. whatever you are using now, scrap it. plex has clients for pc, mac, linux, android/google tv, ios, roku, ect. it handles media shares through other plex servers and DLNA. trust us, you will thank us.

Scrap everything..... use TVMobili... its perfect NON-Java based. Plays Mkv without transcoding straight from my NAS to my Samsung TV, I use BubbleUpnp as the app on my phone to control it all...

Im guessing nas is network attached storage.... I had the same issues going from my computer through dlna router to tv with those same type files.... it's because nothing had proper codecs... ended up installing divx codecs and allshare to fix it... don't know what your fix is, since its stored on external storage and i thought the s3 could play those files... but this search looks promising
Softmedia Player is what I used on the Samsung Vibrant for this purpose. I'll have the GS3 tonight and this will be one of the first things I'll be exploring. It's a bit overkill, but there is now an xbmc for android that I've tried on my wife's GS2. It works well and can use UPnP sources.

Softmedia Player is working well for me for UPnP. I also installed MX Video player as well and when Softmedia Player asks, I use MX to play the videos. MX uses hardware decoding where possible and otherwise reverts to software.

Streaming from my PC to the Note 2

Hello there, I'm wondering if there's a way to stream my multimedia content from my PC to my Note.
I don't really like using Dropbox or other online storage services.
Is there a way to directly stream?
Thanks.
Sent from my SGH-I317M using xda app-developers app
Just share the folder on your network then access it using es file explorer or some other explorer that allows lan file discovery
If you want to actually stream the content, not just make it appear in es explorer and such, look into upnp/dlna.

Tversity always works great. Moboplayer(play store free) will stream if the phone doesnt do it by default.

Try remote media center (play store). You can access your content while on your home wifi and also over the mobile data network. It is used along with remote potato server that you install on your pc. This setup works flawlessly for me.

I believe Plex also allows. Access outside the home does it not? But one would assume that using streaming in that matter outside the home must devour your data.

Android and NAS server

a friend of mine recently gave me a netgear readyNAS nv+ NAS server that i plan on using with my phone to make up for the lack of internal. I was just wondering if anyone could recommend any apps that work well with connecting with it and with features like auto upload pics, vids etc etc. If theres an app that would even let me stream my music from it that would be fantastic
Not sure about auto upload but you can stream music and movies through es browser and other file browsers and I think there are other apps more for that but idk
