[How-To] Stream Videos with Google Drive - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

1. Open Google Drive
2. Long press on the desired video file
3. From the popup, select "Send Link"
4. Choose either "Copy to Clipboard" or "Share to Clipboard."
5. Open any browser that SUPPORTS FLASH.
6. In the address bar, long press and select "Paste" or "Paste and Go" (just copy the URL into your browsers address bar).
7. Hit go.
8. Enjoy watching your videos streaming to your phone in your browser.
9. Watch fullscreen by double tapping on the video as it plays.
Note: you MUST have a flash enabled browser. I use Boat Browser on Jellybean 4.1.2
This was written because I did some searching and could not find anything else that showed how to stream video FROM Google Drive TO your Android device. I hope this helps, if it does, just click Thanks!

Try Plex...... Its a hell of an app granted you have to leave your PC on but its worth it.

Or you can get a file manager that support cloud computing (example. X-plore from the market) and just simply click the file and play it back on your phone without having to go through a browser that supports flash

The reason I use this method is because the Google method automatically converts the video to a flash supported content that can be streamed no matter what. I have lots of various formats that I don't want to have multiple codecs for. There are other ways to do it but none I'd personally seen on streaming from this method. Beauty of Android: multiple ways to get to there!

Can you share with folks exactly how Plex is used? I tried it, loved it, and I'm positive that if folks search for this solution, they'll want to here about this! It's astonishingly straightforward and really easy to use, but everyone's skill level is different.

While Flash is capable of playing content Hulu blocks access by mobile devices. I believe this is because their licensing terms don't allow them to distribute content to anything but PC's.
There's another thread somewhere that details how to get Hulu on your Android device. You basically need a hacked version of Flash (I think) and then a small system tweak to make Hulu's servers think the request is coming from a desktop. I just saw it yesterday. . . .

Video playing frm pc to phone

Hey xda
I'm using es file explorer and I finally got it to sync with my desktop ove wifi server ..my question is how do I play videos from the phone directly from the pc without downloading...like click the viddeo and it plays directly on the phone?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Those are two different things. Syncing just makes sure all thes files match each other. Your phone is downloading anything from the sync folder and vice versa. I don't know anyway to play videos from your pc without downloading it first. Hopefully someone else can help you.

Whatever applicatin you use as a media center on your computer should have built in DLNA (server/streaming) capabilities; all you need to do is enable that feature and search the Market for a DLNA player/client

Yes, just as when you stream via Hulu/Netflix, its getting downloaded to your temp/cache; the difference being you can start watching immediately as opposed to waiting for a massive file to finish downloading and you don't need the actual space to store the media.

If your computer has a powerful enough CPU to encode video on the fly (dual core within the past 1 or 2 years at least in performance) you can use an app like Emit to stream in real time. I have a laptop with a Core i5 M450 @ 2.4 GHz and it works surprisingly well. Check out the thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15611569
Basically it's similar to Apple's Air Video if you're familiar with that.

That is a silly argument of semantics. There is a huge difference in a tiny downloaded cache, and moving say a 1 GB (or larger) file to your phone.
There a several apps on the Market that will do this function. I've used Plex, and it works well on our phone. Cost is $4.99, but it easily streams video from your computer to your phone over WiFi, and easy to setup. You can even set it up to stream over 3G, and other WiFi networks when you are away from home, as long as you forward the ports on your home computer (takes a bit more setup to do this).
If you have a lot of movies on your computer, its pretty awesome to be able to browse and stream them from anywhere. Plex is not necessarily the best app of this type, its just the only one I've tried. The app suggested by c00ller above seems very similar. That one has a free version, which is a bonus since you can test drive it before committing your $$$.
It may be silly but I thought the OP was looking for a way to play files directly off his computer like a network drive. I apologise if it seemed I was being a contrarian.
P.s.
I suppose that downloads to your phone as well.... anywho...

Its easy with ES File Explorer, I had done it few times.
Share a folder in your PC with videos
Turn on wifi in your mobile
Go to LAN from the tab (instead of local)
from menu ->new -> scan
it will show your pc Ip,
click and connect( i think u need passwords less sharing option in PC)
browse the folders, open any file (Suitable player needed in MOBILE)
ES will ask for choice to vopen the file in ES player or default player or some other player (in my case mobo player)
Just select and play.

Install a DLNA server on your PC. I use the (paid) Mezzmo server. A little searching will reveal some freeware ones too.
I have Mezzmo serving up shows I record and DVDs I've ripped, all stored on a 3TB hard drive in MP4 format. On my phone, and the kid's Android Tablets, I've install a DLNA client like Skifta. Skifta connects to Mezzmo, presents an easy-to-navigate browser. Just choose your video and play it.

[Q] Google Play Music app doesn't allow me to download songs.

Hey!
I am having a problem with the Google Play Music app. I cannot make the songs available offline! When I view the menu, the option to download the songs does not show up. I contacted Google about this but they haven't responded yet. Does anyone else have this problem and can offer advice?

wws12: Can you stream those songs? Google Play does only allow use from 10 different devices. After flashing a few custom roms (each ne version counts as a new device, also it is the same hardware device) my 10 were used up and on the eleventh i couldn't download or stream any music from the online library. Maybe it is the same for you. You can unregister devices on the website.

Question: How many times have you flashed a new ROM since using Google Play Music? And have you checked out your registered devices? How many are there? If you are a serial flasher like many here on XDA, you need to deregister some older versions of your phone.
Go to a web browser on your computer. Go to the Google Play Music make sure you are logged in. Get to the music settings and check out your devices there.
I have never flashed a ROM on my N7.

I am not just talking about your N7, do you have a phone you flashed and used Google music with? If so, each different rom will be recognized as a different device, dependant on the rom dev and how they listed your device.
Ok next question; How much space do you have on your device? It's not nearly full is it?
Nope I don't think its even half. Got the 16gb version.

Yes you can download songs to your nexus 7.
Select the artist or albums tab in Google music
Then click the 3 dots in the top right hand corner (menu button).
Select "choose on device music"
You should now see a pin with the option to save off line next to the album

If I want a song (or even album) on my N7, I just go to Google Music on a PC and use Music Manager to download all to my PC, then select what I want on the N7. It's much faster this way (once music is on your PC), and gives you a complete back up of what's online.
PS: If you go to Albums and select "choose on device music"... then swipe to songs, and select a song, and another song... etc... then turn off wifi, the individual songs seem to be added on your device. Not sure how many that will do it for, I only tried 2.

Short answer.... No.
What the guy in the post before me is referring to is caching, which the play music will do to your last songs played based on your app settings.
There use to be a feature to back up individual song, but it has been removed in the latest update to the music app... so this doesn't just affect the nexus 7.

[APP] XBMC on GN II

The folks at XBMC just released their newest version 12.0 "Frodo" Beta 2, and it's working great on our Galaxy Note 2. I though I'll share it with you guys, especially those who familiar with XBMC. Anyone interested can download the apk here http://xbmc.org/download/

Awesome. Great catch! My only issue with it is that it doesn't seem to want to detect the S-pen. For instance, when I was adding my media paths took out the s-pen to tap the folders and nothing. No screen tap detection. Anyone else having that issue?
Also, it took me a second to locate my external SD. Selecting external media actually takes you to the internal "sdcard" I had to go root filesystem, storage, extsdcard. My first Samsung device (been a HTC guy since the blue angel) so perhaps this is the norm but throwing that out there for those who may not know.
I can confirm that s-pen doesn't work with this app. But nonetheless, its still a great program. Since this app is still in beta, it could only get better.

In case you didn't find it- it's all in the setup...
For anyone who may not know xbmc stands for:
X-Box Media Center (of which it was(/is?) originally a port)
There are tons of add-ons you can install. Getting it fully setup can become an on-going evolution.
By hooking your device up to your TV & running this app you can essentially cancel your cable subscription and replace it with xbmc
There are also some additional skins & add-ons which can be found & downloaded elsewhere with a regular browser and installed from within the app (meaning: you can't get to everything that is truly available for this app from within it, although there's plenty available there...)

For me it solves the problem of YouTube shutting down whenever the app is not in use. I listen to a lot of music there and many videos aren't even videos but just images with the audio playing.
