I think tmobile has updated their network again because I am getting ping times lower than 60ms .Does anyone has any details to add on this.
Consider yourself lucky. ...I gets horrible ping all the time. ...
1167ms ! That's on a good day

In my area it dropped from stupid to between 70 and 90ms. My area is toward the end of the refarm process.

How is the T-Mobile network in the south suburbs, like northwest, Indiana? I plan to ditch AT&T and TRY T-Mobile in my area tomorrow. So sick of AT&T's throttling and horrible call quality and GS4 limitations.
I'd like to get some advice on those of you using the Gs4 on T-Mobile in or around Chicago. I noticed that those of you using T-Mobile's H+ network seem to have very inconsistent pings and download speeds with EDGE poking its head in every now and then. I also would love to get some feedback on the T-Mobile wifi calling option.
I successfully rooted and flashed Task650 rom and hope the T-Mobile S4 isn't difficult to root and flash, hopefully not since the bootloader isn't locked.
I work in the Homewood/Thornton area, but I'm usually always on Wi-Fi. No problems with the network the times I do stray from the office. Speed wise is not the greatest but on par with every other phone I've had. Claims 4g, I'm getting about 4Mbps down and 1.5 up.

I've had over twenty mbps down with new modem and updates

I am in chicago heights area and absolutely no issues. I get double digits all day long. You do have a 30 day trial to actually try it.
For the two days I was in Chicago, I thought the service was pretty good. Fair warning, the 103rd floor of the sky tower thing, the phone signal and 4G get a bit choppy. (you'd think it'd kick butt since it's all encased in glass, but whatever.)
Also, LOL @ Sprint being the fastest 4G LTE in Chicago...
Nw Indiana here. Been with Tmobile for 10 years and have no intentions on leaving. I average pings in the 40s to 60s with 16 down and 8 up.
As been said go for the trial and see how you like it.

Any LTE anywhere? How about dipping into EDGE anywhere? I think I will try them out tomorrow.

I live on the south side of Chicago. Travel and work in south / southwest suburbs and have no issues. Highly recommended T-Mobile.

I work all around Chicago and northwest suburbs, Schaumburg, Barrington, Elgin, Hanover, elk grove, honestly the service every where but real south Barrington has been pleasing, as of two days ago from my home in Schaumburg I get LTE. Around 24mb down and 8mb up. Very pleased with there service compared to others in the area.

What are you all have for apn settings. I'm using the fast.t-mobile.com but my speeds are not great.

Looks like T-Mobile has enabled some of the LTE towers near Ft Lauderdale airport. My initial thoughts are unimpressed - getting on average 6 mb/s on SpeedTest for the Hollywood, FL server. Results attached.
I've also tried a different APN and similiar results. My only guess at this point is they are still fine-tuning the towers.
Anyone care to take bets as to how long this will take to get locked?

You might want to give a bit more info. What is giving you those speeds (the title indicates wifi and data issues)? What rom are you running, radio baseband, etc.
More useful info would be... useful...

O yeah im sorry about that still kind of new to rooting and all my friend used to do it for me but hes in the army now but i digress im on jedi master 14 and my baseband version is t889UVBMB4. my wifi at home gives me about 7 mbps when I should be getting at least 20 and sometimes when im at my home im getting like .21 mbps on my tmobile data when I usually get around 8mbps not sure if thats on tmobiles end or mine
When using the H+ network? My data connection switches constantly from 3g to H+ at my home. I get like 3-5 MB/s on average. I always have full bars and I live about 20 mins south of Kansas City.
What speed do you get on your S3? When downloading apps and the like I only seem to get like 300kb/s....it feels really slow.
You?

Wow. It seems like you live in an area with HSPA+ 42 coverage. Where I live, I only get HSPA+ 21 coverage, which is more like 2.5 MB/s. When downloading apps I usually get around that speed as well. The 300kb/s speed you're getting might be due to server congestion, which has little to do with your connection. Only a few times have I had to deal with slow downloads from Google Play.
8-12mb average in Clearwater, FL. 2-3mb up.

Before the big LTE migration, I would get 10-15, over 20 on a good day. Nowadays I can usually get 5-10, sometimes 15. Rarely see 20 anymore.
This data speed thing is lame. Can't believe they released the T999L after >.<

I'm in Birmingham, AL, which I think is HSPA+ 21, and I usually get around 7-11 mbps. Don't think I'm really missing anything by not having LTE.
IMO HSPA+ 21 is good enough for anything I've come across so far (YouTube, downloading apps, web browsing, streaming radio). Unless you're a data-speed freak you're probably not going to notice the difference between HSPA+ and LTE, unless you download large files often.

The big difference I see between HSPA+ and LTE is latency. There is no comparison. LTE kills it, no waiting for connection and data starting to download. Also very noticeable in high subscriber density environments (Disneyland for instance). LTE handles lots of devices more efficiently than HSPA.

Same area as another poster here.. clearwater/largo, on my T999 I get 5-15 down, 2 up, depending on the time of day... Since I got my S4, I get 29/10 all day every day on LTE, I laugh because my phone is faster than my bright house connection and cheaper... plus, as others have said, latency kills HSPA+, I cant even download stuff without a connection interrupt. I just wish there was some way to switch the S4 to LTE only and still do calling, but Tmobile AFAIK does not support voice over LTE...to bad you cant re-rout the wifi calling over it to fool the phone into thinking its calling over wifi.
NYC here. around 13-20 when I'm outside. Never above 20.
In Jacksonville Fl I average 10-15 download and 2 upload.

Well I Get Different Download Speeds Depending On The Time Of Dat.... Like In My 4th Period Class O Can Get Up To 2/mbps Which Is Cool But At Home I Get 200/kbps so well that's what I Get in Santa Ana California
I would just think that being in a rather large metropolitan area I would be getting better speeds. Wouldn't they want to focus on large centers for better towers? Oh well...I still have a year on my contract. I want to get the next Google nexus that comes out.

Well Being In A Large Are Doesn't Mean You Get Faster Internet Speed... Because Of Major Population In A City people Use There Phones Way More and At around the Same Time... But In Little Areas People Don't Use There Pgones Tgat Much And A Different Times ... There Are To Many Variables To This
What should we be getting on Verizon? Rooted S-Off.
In Minneapolis area and feel like I should be doing better than 4-7 Mbps.
Tried 1.33 and 2.6 FW with similar results.
Bad phone or typical Verizon?

We do according to Verizon's XLTE cities list
Quoting Verizon - "While XLTE network enhancements are invisible to the customer, the mobile experience is not. XLTE Ready devices automatically access both 700 MHz spectrum and the AWS spectrum in XLTE cities."

Part of you city may have it...but not the entire...I'm in Newark, NJ....LTE speeds in my 5 block area from 9am-5pm are only .4 mbps!!! I walk 3 blocks towards the Prudential Center arena..... 40-60 mbps.....we're actually in talks with Verizon to get a cell tower on top of our building as I am in a heavy business area that is at a crawl.

I expect minor fluctuations but did not realize the magnitude. Originally tested at home and office - about 20 miles apart - and found downloads in the 5 mbps at both.
Random checks while out and about during lunch hour showed some significant variations.
Initial concern was that I ginked up a radio with all my crack flashing but I'll put it down to spotty Verizon service.
Thanks for your input.
I am in the Southeast Twin Cities and have hit 95 down and 35 up.

I have number envy!! ---
Live in Burnsville and work in Chaska but have not seen anything like those numbers on LTE.
Replacement phone expected today due to VoLTE issues and will be curious to see if the numbers improve.
Possibly related?
*****Update
VoLTE working properly on replacement device but 4G/LTE speeds still crap so I'd say unrelated.
That stinks it did not fix it. I would run more speed tests around the metro, but I ran a few tests and chewed through 600 megs. Have you tried other areas in the metro?

I checked several areas in the southern suburbs and can get readings in the 40s up 30s down, and then single digits just blocks away. I can understand if shielded inside buildings but seems odd to have such variation outside.
Nothing like your numbers though but also not much of a problem based on how I use my phone.
Ya I ran a few more tests and got some super slow numbers a few blocks away (less than 5 up and down). Not sure what the deal is with that.
