HDMI mirroring rom - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have a few dummy Evo 4gs. Not active on cell network
I want to use it to play YouTube videos on my big screen led with HDMI.
Can someone point me to a working ron that does HDMI output mirroring?
Ideally I would like a fully baked rom. Something I can flash and HDMI mirroring will work for YouTube playing.
Anyone got any recommendations?

HDMI mirroring functionality is found in the kernel which is interchangeable between ROMs, its a commonly found feature in all the best kernels available.
Take your pick.
I would recommend one for you.but you didn't mention whether you're running a Sense or AOSP ROM.
If you're looking at flashing any ROM then pick whatever ROM and flash the kernel afterwards.
Me personally I run MikG 3.1 (Sense Rom) and the Classic Kernel (Sense Kernel) and use HDMI out all the time automatically outputs when plugged in.

Ok in will try mik rom. Is the classic kernel a separate flash?
And if I install mik rom, it's hdmiout baked in the rom? Or I have to install an additional apk file

Best combo I have found on the OG EVO is decks reloaded Rom with the baked in mason kernel. Then use the HDMWIN app just make sure its granted SU it does not always automatically prompt it. I use Hdmi on a daily basis without issues.

I found many decks reloaded Rom and kernels, could you point me to the right links?
Also how do you get the market working therre

Deck's Reloaded is here. On this rom you need to flash Gapps as well.
When you say market do you mean play store?

Yes, when I load 2.2 it shows are Market, I tried to load gapps for 2.2 but it didn't work, but I found it in the link you provided
Do I need to load the kernel separately?

I'm going to assume you are talking about Myn's 2.2 as I see you have a question on this. Myn's is a sense rom so you don't need to flash gapps.
Did you sign into your google account as the market is tied to it. Have not been on that rom in forever.
Kernels get flashed in recovery. For Myn's rom you can only use Froyo kernels.

Wow...
Yes market is the "play store".
Mason kernel is baked in
Flash gapps GB gapps right after Rom in recovery. Just like it instructs to do so.

All set, running great, thanks
Any tips on Flash installation?
Trying to run playon, it requires flash, I tried downloading adobe air but it didn't help.

It works on stock rom but if you like that stock rom feel but 20x better I would suggest trying tommytomatoe' s classic rom. So much time and effort has gone into that rom it will blow you away. Also made by one of the greatest devs the OG EVO has had here. Please do yourself a favor and flash it even if it's just to try it out.

wireless tether works

With the [Kernel]netarchy-toastmod, updated for 2.2 - Version 3.7.6c
And wireless tether 2.0.5 pre 6 however the download speeds are very sporadic so it takes a few min to load each web page. Does anyone know what else we can do to the kernel to get this fully working or do we just have to wait for source?
This is the most i got, may be with the kernel source we wil get more!

You should probably list what ROM you are running, and maybe change the title because wifi tether doesn't work with all 2.2 ROMs, and Netarchy's kernel doesn't work on all 2.2 Roms either. People who are may want more info than you are offering.

Nevermind my questions- I got it to work!!! searched computer for "tether" and it pulled multiple files from my copied sd card titianium backups- found tether 2.05 pre 4 and it worked. thanks for the leads.
I've been waiting on flashing 2.2 until Wireless Tether works.
So fresh3.0.1 and netarchy 3.7.6c kernal seem to be working? How are the download speeds? Is anything else broken when you flash the kernal? I heard that the camera might not work after the kernal flash.

Been running it since last night on fresh 3.1.0.0 and everything's working except google goggles.Camera will only show that its taking pictures in 3mp after you flash the kernel but as long as you have your camera set to 8mp before you flash,it will still capture in 8mp.

You will be able to get higher than 2000 with this kernal easily. The thing is though, I don't think you can flash back to froyo after going to GB, or atleast I can't.
this is for GB? Wish it would of stated it in the op. Where can I find a Oc kernel for froyo with this kind of potential?

Stock kernel for HTC Desire?

Does anyone have a link for a stock kernel which would be compatible with my set up (in sig)?
I want to try a stock rom to see if I can get sky go to work on my desire as it can't be used on a rooted device, others have had success by changing their kernel.

Could I try a stock rom and kernel and then go back to my current set up or would I then be unrooted?
Well you can "try" and flash the kernel I am using I suppose... but as far as I know it will break your camera and probably some other stuff I don't know. Do a nandbackup just in case you want to be adventurous. You only wanna find out if Sky would work if you change kernels first right?

Yes that's right, it has to be a stock kernel as sky do a check on the kernel before the stream loads apparently.
Well if it's stock kernel that it requires, then you have to use the official Sense based rom and kernel. All sense roms here uses a custom kernel so you are out of luck. You can't use Sense kernel on AOSP roms anyway.
OK cheers
I will have to wait for techy people to hack the sky go app then.
Depending on how Sky works, you can try and flash one those sense based roms. Who knows, the custom kernel they have might work. I have the impression that they are all based on the original sense kernel anyway. Or just wait for someone to hack the app.

Thanks, I will try your CM10 ROM, although I have rooted and installed several ROMS in a samsung spica, and a sony Xperia ArcS, I have not very clear how to install your ROM.
Wipe Data, Cache, and system "OK"
Flash the ROM "It's the TEST13 file? is this done in the recovery, right?"
Flash GApps "is this done in the recovery, right?"
Download the boot.img "OK xD"
Flash boot.img in fastboot "I guess this one is not done in the recovery, could you please be a little bit more specific? what is included in the boot.img? it's mandatory?"
If I install this kernel it adds any apps/option in the ROM so I can change the OC to 1.2 or keep the default 1?

Or in order to change I need to install a 3rd party app in google play?

because there are settings in the kernel which are NEEDED to even boot CM10 and they are not in the stock kernel
thats the easiest explanation i can give you

If a rom doesn't include FFC capability

Theres other camera apps that support it right? or do you just need to chose a rom that does have the capability?

What kind of ROM are you talking about? Because you won't find any Jelly Bean with FFC and market apps don't work either. Do not waste money or time looking for a FFC. It's not gonna happen. If you want a badass ROM that has the look, speed, and performance of a newer ROM with everything working, try this ROM out. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2141593
Throw the Next 3D launcher on that badboy and you're gonna be in good shape. Promise.
You can find lots of information here about this if you dig a little. There is a search box. Get familiar with that, and you'll learn a lot on your own. Just type random questions or shorten them to a key word or two. I've only been here for a few months, but I've ran through the basics and I'm getting familiar with other aspects besides user options.

It's cool bro. You can ask any questions you want. Don't hesitate. I might not be able to answer them all, but I can help you find an answer. As for finding out which phone model you have, go to settings, then about phone. Look at the model number. If it says PC36100 you have the Evo 4G, otherwise known as the OG. If it's anything else besides PC36100, you'll have to google it to find out what kind of phone you have.

The og (HTC evo 4g, aka supersonic) does have a ffc but it only has drivers for Gingerbread Roms. You have flashed roms from this forum I have tried helping you with some of your mms issues. If you had the lte than your phone would most likely be in sad shape. Flashing things not designed for your phone can cause big issues even brick it ( phone will never work again). As some users have found out the hard way already.
So plainly put you have an Og. Now this should have been the first question you asked before flashing anything.
Also I am working on a couple cricket roms for all the users on here. The first set will be sense based sense 1.0, 3.0, and 3.5. All with confirmed working mms and great battery life. I am also working on cm7, ics, and jelly bean.

Thank you again for your help gentlemen. I figured I had the OG but was starting to wonder when I read incorrect info saying the OG didn't have a ffc. I'm becoming more proficant in flashing roms and terms and what to look for in a Rom. A sense cricket Rom would thrill me as editing apns is not working. The only thing I've had work was a mazwoz everything cricket Rom, however as stated before the roms battery usage was 1% a minute, no Bluetooth capability, (which id rather over a ffc) .
With the newest recovery options, (especially including the usb toggle feature) bricking seems like it'd be impossible .

You know, soul hacker posted the Cricket mms apk that you can manually download and install yourself..... Its all in the same thread as Mazwoz Cricket ROM...... I have used that MMS on my own ROMs for myself when I'm not busy on a test or flash fest. Using the same method soul hacker has posted in that thread, it works just fine for me.

I downloaded the apk in that ROM post of 4.2 copied it over to system apps, the permissions were already set how they should be rebooted and it would force close when I would try and open it .I even used Titanium Backup to try and restore it over it wouldn't restore, and tried using package installer and it would say parsing error or something like that. I'm currently running the digital karma rom v9.

Android Jellybean 4.1 or 4.2
Those mms.apk's will not work on Gingerbread, Sense or any Android version below 4.1

I figured that's what it was but was under the impression 2.3.5 was the current Android version. I'll look up upgrading to 4.2 tonight n let u know how it goes. Probably explains why I couldn't get dirty unicorn Rom to install thnx again.

Dirty Unicorns is 4.2.2 which is what you will need (I used the 4.2 mms apk on Dirty Unicorns too) and what was the problem with it not loading?

It gave an error upon flashing. Don't recall the exsact error but it didn't even start the installation process ill let you know when I get home a little later. But I made sure to do several wipes on everything before flashing.
Deleted.

I installed DU this morning with no issues whatsoever. Might want to check and make sure you don't have a bad download, and try again.

Is there a ffc fix for this Rom? other roms I've seen got this working.
No FFC for any jellybean or ICS ROMs. Only gingerbread (2.3.5) ROMs will have FFC.
Also you will want to use an amon Ra style recovery. Cwm and twrp are not very good options for this phone. Diablo has a few themed versions you might like.
Here os the link.

So after 2 weeks of trying to figure out MMS much thanks to wambo bomb and the rest of you in this thread for your patience with this newb I got MMS working on the fast and stable, (with Bluetooth) dirty unicorn ROM.(battery is bad which is why its been draining so quickly with other ROMs) I shoulda known the MMS 4.2 stood for androids version. For some weird reason I was thinking it was the mms's version. I find it interesting older versions of android have the FFC working though but not newer ones. Oh well I'd much much rather have MMS than FFC. If I had money to donate to you and the others I definatly would I'm sorry I don't though. As stated before I'm disabled and can't get on disability yet. If I do get on it I'll be happy to donate to all of you for your help. Many thanks again for educating me so I can help others in the future.
