[Q] Change icon images on home screen? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What's the best way to change the icons on the homescreen and app drawer?
Call me OCD, but the low res icons are getting on my nerves!
What's the best way to swap them with my own made high resolution images?
Beamed from Jupiter on my Galaxy Note II

AjunNg, icons are actually not low-res, just oversized due Samsung’s setting of 320 DPI, which is too much for 5.5” screen (for me). Changing icons will not help – it is limited to 96x96.
If you want sharp icons like on iPhone, you need to change DPI to 240 (or 280) in android. Interface, icons and texts in will be smaller and sharper.
But doing it in stock ROM will most likely result in misplaced buttons and labels in Samsung applications - you’ll need to install custom ROM.

[Q] TouchWiz Launcher with Samsung Icons

Hi Guys,
I was just checking if I can get the Galaxy S like home screen on my DHD and found the TouchWiz Launcher APK in the forum. I was able to install this successfully but the Icons it is showing are the default Sense icons. Is there anyway I can change the Icons to Galaxy S like icons.
One thing... I have not rooted my handset yet.
Thanks.

Hmmm not exactly the answer you may be looking for but try purchase ADW EX Launcher. It has an iPhoneish setting which gives icons a coloured background and you can use the horizontal swipe app drawer aswell as modify the dock to a touchwiz style interface.
Regards.
I tried ADW Launcher with Gal S Theme which gave me Icons like Galaxy S. But In ADW, I am not able to select dock with 4 icons. The options are only 5, 3, 1 or none. So, I tried removing the Dock completely and extended the home screen to 5 rows so that I can use the bottom row as 4 icon dock. But the problem now is there is no dock at all in app drawer as well.

Template for Nova Launcher themeing

Hi,
in the last few months I really start to like the theme with a static wallpaper (or multi wallpaper) where there is just everything and you use uccw/transparent icon on the phone.
I'm then having problem because often is hard to understand where a widget will be really positioned or is hard to put an icon in the right position (maybe you want to add a counter to it and the counter is not matching the icon in the wallpaper).
I'm using nova launcher (not sure why I choosed that, apex was a little bit laggy scrolling wallpaper and...ss launcher I didn't know about it but right now I love it but because I purchased nova, let's keep nova).
What I'm then wondering is if there are template with line where you can exactly understand where the grid of nova are (7x7, 6x7 and so on) or if someone has some suggestion on how to do that.
I already tried to just craete a pics in photoshop with the resolution of the htc one x and splitting it in 7x7 grid but, not sure why, my grid isn't matching the real grid of the nova homescreen (maybe because there is no notification bar on the top?? don't know).
Any suggesiton or premaded template around (tried to google it but without any good result).
Thanks,
Massimiliano
What you could do I guess, is filling each grid with random apps, screenshot it and open it up in Photoshop and draw a grid based on that. And I think grid size changes if you enable/disable statusbar and dockrow.
And in nova homescreen settings there is width and hight marginal options witch affect grid size aswell.
Perhaps u can make two full size icons with different colours and place out, might make it easier drawing the grid if icons have straight edges.
Edit: take a screenshot while moving a widget, that will show the grid.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Good idea, I'll try it thanks

how to Decrease Icons Size in Stock rom?

is there any chance to decrease size of icon on stock rom, or maybe change the dpi?
You can change the DPI with apps in the store, but it can cause severe glitches to some programs... especially the samsung ones.
You're better off getting a launcher that allows you to set the size of the icons, such as Holo launcher.
I agree with Brittany on using a launcher, but I prefer Nova launcher, which is what I use.

How do I change the icons since the regular apps such as Icon changer don't allow ?

Hi,
I have a big issue with the fact that I can't change the app icons to the ones i want. If I try to use apps like Icon changer, i am warned that "Your launcher may not support creating shortcut via Icon changer ", hence I am not allowed to do so. How can i fix this ? I don't want to install icons from certain icon packs, I want to change them with specific pngs.
Thank you in advance,
Liviu
Use a 3rd party launcher, like Nova. Or wait for the developer to update Icon Changer. The phone has only been available for a few days, and I suspect a number of apps will need to be updated to support it.
I am surprised about the small icon size when you put a few icons in a folder. I change the resolution to HD+ but that makes them no much bigger.
Pixel 2 launcher show's much bigger icons using folders but I like somehow the stock launcher.
Any ideas how to make the icons in folder look bigger?

3rd party launcher is the only way, Nova Launcher is the most used

At first I was not that happy with Nova but.....
I found a backup for the S9 and did import and hat to tweak it a bit.
Here a screenshot of the touchwiz and one of the Nova launcher.
Touchwiz is the first thing I dump on a tablet or phone and I've used Nova since it first came out. Lately though I've been using Microsoft Launcher (formally Arrow) and like a lot if it's features.

DPI Change (Home Screens, App Drawer and App Icons)

I have a note 10+ (SM-N975U1) and I am looking for a way to get my Home Screens, App Drawer and App Icons to follow the DPI change I make under Developer Options. When I change the DPI to anything other than the standard 410, everything seems to change with the exception of the home screens, app drawer and app icons. I was able to do this a few releases ago but I cannot any longer.
Any ideas on how I can get this to change without installing a different launcher?
Thanks in advance!

I had this issue with the Note 9 already, and seems that the stock launcher doesn't follows the DPI setting.
We had this issue with the official keyboard too.
I'm still waiting for a solution too.
