I've just updated to the latest Google search and it looks like the weather now reports in Fahrenheit only and there is no option to choose Celsius from settings (with Google Now being off). This settings were available previous to this update.
I don't want to turn it on ... So if you know a way to switch to Celsius without turning on the Google Now please let me know.
Thanks.

Maybe if you start Google now, change to Celsius and then turn it off again? Won't that help?

Yes I noticed this too. I already tried temporarily turning on Google Now and set the weather card to Celsius but it just reverts back to Fahrenheit when I turn off Google Now. I think this is because we're using "English (US)" as the Language. The temporary workaround is to just say ->
"What's the weather like in centigrade"
Nope , already tried that, turned Google Now on, switch to Celsius but as soon as you turn it off, it switches back to Fahrenheit .
In previous version, the weather card had the Setting option active even with Google Now off, but now, there is no Setting option.
I've switched the language to English (UK) but it will still report the weather in Fahrenheit .
Now it just bothers me things that used to work good in the previous versions are just deleted or made not to work in newer versions ... what's wrong with this world ...?

In my quest to see why my battery drains so much during idle (3-4%/hour), using GSam Battery Monitor, I find Maps wakes the phone constantly.
I have 'location reporting' from within maps turned off, and location history turned off, latitude location sharing is turned off also.
I do have Google's Location Service turned on so I can use Google Now, and also have GPS satellites and Location & Google Search checked. But I don't see why Location Service would make Maps wake my phone so often (pretty much 1x every minute)
Is this normal? Or is something not right?
P.S. Yes, I know it "only" drained 2% since I unplugged it 1.2 hours ago but it's the first time this has ever happened and as soon as I took the snapshots, it dropped to 97% right away.
I have lots of wakes from Maps too. Likely because you're using Google Location Services and are using Google Now, which needs to know your location.
It is normal. when you check it off try to find it in your running processes, you won't find it.
It stopped doing that to me when I turned off location tracking in Latitude settings in Google Maps.

This is my map - settings - location settings screenshot. everything is disabled already.
Eddie1506: where do I change settings in Latitude?
Automaddux: you mean I have to turn off Google Location Service (and in effect Google Now)?
Thanks everyone!
Your not the only one buddy... I just witnessed this right now. Went to sleep to a pretty good charged battery and wake up to about a 35% battery ..

I always have. Even on my E4GT..and have had no problems with deep sleep. But now the phone won't sleep at all.

I leave GPS off unless I need it. That stopped the wake locks for me.
I was referring to those settings on your screenshot. When I turned off everything there, it stopped waking up the device.
But, those settings work for me since I don't use Latitude and Google Now is not usable here in Croatia anyhow.
Sorry
I've had 310 in three hours. Frustrating.

so it's google location services that causes the extreme amount of wakes. so I have to make a decision, whether to enable Location Services and Google Now or live without it. In the end, it seems like the battery life doesn't suffer that much, so I think I'll keep it on...
I keep my Google now turned off because I'm all about battery life. But other people may have different thoughts

I'm currently using rootbox vanilla and KT kernel. Decided to do some battery testing so I unplugged by phone and made sure nothing was running before going to bed and I've attached my results.
I have GPS turned off and as far as I know i've disabled any location service related setting from third party apps such as Facebook/Instagram/Twitter.
I use two widgets for weather: cLock and Dashclock. But I've set the weather settings to be manually requested instead of updating on intervals so that shouldn't be causing maps to run.
Anyone have any ideas as what could possibly still be triggering maps to run in the background? (Thinking Google Now maybe?)

Most likely Google Now, if you don't use it, unistall or freeze it.
This is draining my battery. Kept phone awake for almost 100% on time. Anyone else noticing this? Not changed anything. Only thing that has changed is I now have Google Glass, but I dont have them with me today, so it wouldnt be using that.

I was having a similar problem with Play Services and Media Services. I installed App Cache Cleaner and set it to auto wipe every hour or so. That fixed the problem (or at least stopped it from draining the battery).
Hope that helps.

I have disabled use wireless networks in Location Services and all has gone back to normal. Maybe give that a shot and see if that fixes it for you.
Researched this a lot, found some solutions, bad and good fixes and after trying some different twists on it after two days this is what I found to be the best, and I decided since this is just as bad as 4.0/4.1 and the mediaserver battery drain I might as well try and help at least 1 person by mass posting this reply I wrote else where to other threads, so here you go:
"Hey- I don't know if you, or anyone else has found a working solution, but here is the way I found best:
Note- I am on galaxy s4 [sgh-i337] running a 4.4 KitKat rom. I have found the following work around to work best for me:
1 Google now & Hotword detection=OFF,
2 GPS = OFF and turned on only when needed, eg maps/checkin on facebook/whatever needs location.
3 Settings-> Manage Apps -> Google Play Services -> Manage Space -> Clear All Data.
**Optional:After this [root only] I go into KT tweaker and make sure my phone cpu is set to a max of 810 Mhz when screen off.**
This fix usually works until I reset the phone. I ALWAYS follow those 3 steps when rebooting. AND always check that after I've used GPS that Google Play Services isn't keeping my phone awake. [Eg, after 30 minutes I check if the phone ever went to sleep again when the screen was off.] IF it does act up, I repeat steps 1, 2 &3. I still get notifications and all, and this is the least feature disabling way I've found that works with the cost of a little micro-management of your phone.
With this fix I can idle for an estimated 5-6days. As I take off my phone from charge at 8am and at noon with minimal usage [maybe 4 or 5 texts] I am at 97%. With WiFi on & connected.
OTHER: I personally keep NFC&Android beam&Bluetooth OFF, and turn ON when I need it on. Other- WiFi is always ON, and "Scanning Always Available" & "WiFi Optimization" is checked ON for me. And for location mode when I do have it on, I keep it at EDIT: Device only. Using only gps to find my location.
All in all, I hope this gets fixed."
I can post screen shots and all if somebody wants them or if there is need for one

Anybody have thoughts?
Using a gold one on AT&T, carrier locked from best buy.
I've stopped all weather processes in apps and restarted the phone a number of times, still says weather unavailable.
I've also changed the settings in the weather app to refresh every hour, and update when I open the app. 2 restarts and a power off later and still says weather unavailable on the lock screen.
Any help would be appreciated.

Mine was doing this because I had the HTC weather service turned off under Settings->Accounts & sync->HTC Weather Service. Once I turned it back on it started working again.

I can't get mine to work trying this. Only if I change the Location Sources Mode to 'High Accuracy' will it work. I don't want to waste data though using this mode. Anyone know the difference in data usage between modes?
Thanks

Works fine on mine with Location Mode set to "Battery Saving".
I believe the only difference between "Battery Saving" and "High Accuracy" is that "High Accuracy" turns on the GPS, which does not use any data, but does consume battery.
Oh, so I'm probably better off using the High Accuracy then?! Weird it doesn't work on mine with the Battery saving options or other though...

No! You got it wrong. The "High Accuracy" mod uses GPS in conjunction with your Mobile Data, so you are not "better off using it", cuz not only it will consume your mobile data, but also your battery. That's why it called High Accuracy, because it uses both resources to obtain high accuracy!
"Battery Saving" works just fine with the HTC weather widget, no need for the High Accuracy.
I thought it was weird. I don't use the phone now so gave up on it. Going to sell it, as I didn't like it, don't use it, and got a Note 3, plus its in brand new condition still...
Anyone figure this out yet?
Same problem one m9. Location services makes no difference when I change it. No weather widgets from any app are accurate for very long or at all. Not quite sure what to try next.
I have s10plus and my battery was very bad. I can't even reach 5h SOT. Then i get serious and at the end i found the problem with the kernel wake lock. I get bug report and i open battery historian and i detailed search everything. The problem was with NlpWakeLock. That's old problem. Nlp stands for network location provider. As you may know, Android provides developers with two ways of gathering location information. One is through the GPS_PROVIDER, which uses the GPS, and the other is through NETWORK_PROVIDER, which uses cell towers and WiFi APs to get your position.
If u want to fix the problem you have to go in Google Maps then on left upper corner and open settings and go to Notifications and disable all notifications.
There is a screenshot and disable everything inside all submenus

Great find! I'm not a heavy user of my S10e that's I was always annoyed seeing 5 to 8% "Cell standby" daily battery usage and now it makes sense if google turns our phones into a radar station. Today it shows just 1% after shutting off yesterday all the Google Maps notifications crap. Had no idea it was there, sneaky, sneaky, sneaky google. They even added food-stuff location 'triangulation' in the latest update.
Just turned them all off as they were all on by default. My battery wasn't terrible but anything that can make it better is worth a try. Thanks for posting!

Just to make sure, should we disable notifications from the options inside the Google maps app, or should we do it through the phone notification settings?

The written instructions are clear. Disable all the 20+ notifications from within the notification settings of Google maps app
I NEVER have a problem with my S10e Exynos
6-6.5 hrs on screen time, in the evening I have 4% loss in 7 hours standby
I wanted to make a quick system with a good feeling throughout the day without any restrictions, without having to think much.
1. Turn off all notifications that are unnecessary.
2. go to Accu
Tap one of the app for a second and immediately send this app to standby after completion. This prevents maps from being "active" in the background for hours after being used. Google Maps, for example, is still "active" long after use (In Google maps I let the notifications ON, because I want to see also with GPS navigation and turned off screen the notification over the last maps message).
Do that, send app immediately in standby, with some apps except: Google Play services, phone services, SMS and Whatsapp alarm clocks etc ... that's not a good idea. otherwise you may miss a message, which should NOT be the purpose.
3. I also shut down the many unnecessary system apps from Samsung with ADB.
No Samsung Account, No Samsung Contacts, No Samsung Calendar, No Samsung WELLBEEING, No Bixby, No Samsung email, Kids and so on ... They're all in the trash.
Google knows me better than me, but I do not need Samsung for that
(I have the Bixby button with Google Assistant occupied, which has the advantage that the phone does not always have to wait for "keywords", which in my idea can also be helpful to save energy).
4. Go to Accounts, see if all accounts that are linked really need to synchronize all services.
Maybe you can omit the one sync here and there ... For example, Google notes, Google Fit ... I do not care if I really need them, I can do that manually with a swipe down in the app itself.
I do not look at energy-saving mode, I always have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth.
GPS only when I need it. Dolby Atmos and night mode is always on.
But I do not play any games that I do in a year only 50 minutes
This brings me to a usage profile of 6-6.5 hours on screen time, in the evening I have 4% loss in 7 hours standby
