[Q] Jelly Beans apk's function and safe to remove?

The greatest thing about xda forum is we here have a choice to choose to select, test and customize into our favorite ROM. Some people want more fancy stuffs while other prefer the minimalistic lean and fast. This forum add great values to our device and great convenience.
I came across many new .apk in system/app but I have no ideas of what they do in Jelly Bean's latest version. If would be awesome if someone can create a list of apk's function and whether it is safe to remove - what would the effects be if it gets removed. I focus on super lean, fast and stable.

APK's, their purpose and safe or not to remove
This contains Froyo, Gingerbread, ICS, Cyanogenmod
Green = Safe to remove.
Orange = Remove with caution
Red = Do not remove
Note: The effects of removing certain apps can change depending on what version of Android and which rom you have. CM responds differently than stock, GB responds differently than Froyo.

AccountAndSyncSettings – Syncs settings to Google, especially important to Gmail. Do not delete.
Android_VirginUS-Chat – Virgin Mobile Chat forum app. Safe to remove.
AndroidUTSManager – Possibly Time sync system. Not recommended to delete.
ApplicationsProvider – Provides the list of installed apps to Market. Delete at your own peril.

BackupRestoreConfirmation - restores sync'd Google settings. Do not remove.
Bluetooth – Bluetooth connection system. Do not remove if you use Bluetooth.
BluetoothServices - Bluetooth connection system. Do not remove if you use Bluetooth.
Browser – Stock Android web browser. Semi-safe to remove, can break bookmarks, voice search and possibly market.

Calculator – Calculator. Safe to remove.
Calendar – Calendar app. Safe to remove.
CalendarGoogle - Calendar app. Safe to remove.
CalendarProvider -sync system for Calendar. Safe to remove.
Camera – Camera app. Do not remove if you use your camera.
CarHomeGoogle – Utilities to make using your phone safer while driving. Safe to remove.
CertInstaller – Wifi certificate installer. Do not remove.
ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter – syncs Chrome bookmarks. Safe to remove.
ChromeToPhone – syncs Chrome bookmarks Safe to remove.
CMParts – Settings in Cyanogenmod roms will force close without this. Do not remove.
CMScreenshot – Screen capture application. Safe to remove.
com.google.android.marvin.kickback – Provides keyboard feedback through vibration. Safe to remove.
com.google.android.marvin.soundback – Provides keyboard feedback through clicks. Safe to remove.
com.google.android.marvin.talkback – Provides keyboard feedback through voice. Safe to remove.
Contacts – Your contact list. Do not remove.
ContactsProvider – Syncs contacts. Do not remove.
Cyanbread – Stock Cyanogenmod theme. Do note Remove unless you have an alternative installed.

DefaultContainerService – Needed for installing apps. Do not remove.
DeskClock – Clock and alarm system. Safe to remove
Development – Development app. Safe to remove.
DownloadProvider – Handles (all) web browser downloads. Do not remove.
DownloadProviderUi – Browser download interface. If removed, you won't see download status.
DrmProvider – Handles DRM for media that contains it. Do not remove or you will break said media.
DSPManager – Equalizer for tuning audio. Safe to remove.
DunServer – Possibly part of the VPN system. Delete at your own risk.

Email – Email app. Safe to remove, but will make it impossible to setup your phone/Market with Exchange – email transport system. Do not remove.
ExternalMemoryTest – Possibly part of over the air provisioning. Possibly safe to remove, but not recommended.

Even the leanest ROM developed here, there are still many .apk some people won't need. It is really fantastic if each user has the ability/knowing how to weed out those apk they will never use - further customization.

Bloatware removal

I've seen and been very grateful for bloatware removal discussions on other devices, titanium backup, root explorer and I have been busy with our new Sprint Note II and have been able to get rid of the following without (seemingly) any lost functionality:

I removed a bunch of stuff too. For me its not a speed or battery problem , but clutter. I can't stand all the clutter of so many useless apps. I haven't noticed and changes though.

AFter I made a complete with Titanium backup, when I tried to remove bloatware like 'AllShare', it said :
"If you uninstall the wrong package, you may need to reinstall from your ROM"
What does it mean? If I really removed a wrong package, why can't I reinstall it from the Titanium backup?

What is safe to remove on the r800x?

Can someone point me to a list or put a list here of what apps on stock 2.3.3 r800x are safe to remove...after backup ofc...I'm beginning to run out of room and want to figure it out without using Hogwart's Cola rom...for now at least.

Yeah 2.3.4 breaks push notifications, Gtalk, and some other google related stuff. All Verizon apps are safe to remove. I'm using Cola on my R800X and it came with only like 12 apps, so there's quiet a bit of unneeded material installed on stock.

Hmm. Ok...If I switch to that rom, would I have to reinstall apps/games? I know its a nandroid, that's why I'm asking lol

Note: Depending on the third party calendar app of choice, it may be advisable to setup your calendars using the default calendar app before removing it.
Note: Most third party messaging apps cannot send and receive MMS if the stock messaging app is removed.
Note: Removing the default clock widget will alsoremove the alarm feature. Ensure your clock of choice has alarms or have another alarm app installed.

Updating of System apps:
Unlike user apps, when system apps get updated, the original apk in/system/appcannot be replaced automatically. Hence the newer version will be installed as a user app in /data/app.
To save space on your rom, the original ones in/system/app can be deleted. Or, you can manually replace the newer ones from /data/app to /system/app.
Deleting the ones in /system/app is recommended since future updates will replace them and saves space on the rom.

(TIPS) for battery saving must open.!!

battery will save more then 10% make Google maps backup first if you don't want to backup also can, and uninstall it.! when u want to use install it back.

It would be a good idea to have a thread on optimizing google apps which have become invasive bloatware IMO. Along the lines of gapps recommendations for battery: uninstall maps, network location, google backup transport (use mapquest). Also with play services I keep it frozen with disabled receivers since it reinstalls itself if you uninstall it. If anybody knows a good fix for that or has other info on disabling receivers that won't stay disabled, that would be greatly appreciated. Or good apps to use for freezing/backups/modifying receivers and startups. I use system tuner.
Here's my list of user/system apps that I uninstall, some listed by apk and name. This does get rid of live wallpapers and other crap I consider bloatware, definitely personalized for me, be careful. Make sure you back up each app per rom.

Customizing the Custom ROM - Removing the "safe mode" function. DEV HELP!!!

I had a hardware problem, my option button is been pressed and automatically the mobile boots into safe mode, in which i can never install a 3rd party application. I am using a custom ROM, Ultimate HD 4.0 if you can tell me where is the safe mode confd file and how i can remove its function, so that even if the key is pressed when booting, the system should not boot into safe mode.
Your may recommend me to produce the mobile in service centre, but i would like to take this as a challenge , please do help me .!

I had a hardware problem, my option button is been pressed and automatically the mobile boots into safe mode, in which i can never install a 3rd party application. I am using a custom ROM, Ultimate HD 4.0 if you can tell me where is the safe mode confd file and how i can remove its function, so that even if the key is pressed when booting, the system should not boot into safe mode.
Your may recommend me to produce the mobile in service centre, but i would like to take this as a challenge , please do help me .!

This is Android's built-in feature. There is no way to remove it, just like Windows has safe mode.

They recommend to press other buttons.
Also, try playing with the menu button, so it would not stay as pressed.
