If I restore a nandroid backup, what will I lose - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I installed a mod that I now know want to remove. Not sure what I lose though in terms of personal data like texts and app settings etc
I could just reinstall the jb update as well to get rid of the mod?

When you created your backup, that that point in time of the phone everything was backup, meaning system data, apps , etc.
so whatever you have installed or changed after wont be on that backup, so when you restore to that backup, only everything from that time state will be reverted too, nothing else.

Does that mean then I lose any pictures I've taken or texts?

no you wont lose anything of that nature, unless you do a full wipe, and format you SD card.
As far as text, I believe they are saved for a few days somewhere on the phone but everything will be as you left it from that state when you made that backup.

I could just install jelly bean over my current install no? That way I keep my apps and data but just lose the mod?

Are you using ICS or Gingerbread based roms?
Have you tried uninstalling google maps and reinstalling it from the market?
You may want to make sure you did t remove your picotts or samsung tts files. You need to have some sort of tts on your phone for nav to work.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
You might be right because when i turn on the phone after flashing something poping up and saying samsung.com/ stoped working. I don't know what exactly was it but something doesn't work on my phone. Maybe i deleted some system files by accident or something.

[Q] Titanium Backup after moving from ICS to JB?

Hey XDA,
I was hearing stuff about moving from ICS to JB needing to be a clean move, and that you shouldn't restore any data from ICS over to JB, cause it'll cause problems.
I do want to backup my app data, like my game saves and what not-- over to JB when I decide to upgrade.
Are there any tips or tricks to avoid messing up my JB ROM while being able to backup and restore my data from ICS to JB?
Thanks in advance,
-J
Bump ;3
Not sure really. If the apps themselves are updated to the latest version they should be fine to restore through tibu. You can always nandroid your both ICS with your apps, or JB before you try tibu, that way when you try tibu you'll be able to revert back easily if it does in fact screw anything up. Worth a shot of trial and error, though I believe you should be OK so long as you don't do system apps.

Apps in the /system/app folder.

Back on my Atrix I dirty flashed JB right on top of ICS and nothing bad happened. So I'm assuming carrying over user app data won't cause big problems.

Cwm backup ?

I have just done one and it took me no longer then 2 minutes is this normal ??
Sent from my SGH-T999V using xda premium
Yeah that's normal. Write speeds to internal memory are quite fast. Last backup I made took 130 seconds. 300+mb system, 650+mb data. Its all normal

I have done backups that were around 2 minutes as well.
Don't worry about the size of the actual backup, mine are only about 23mb and every time I restore it works perfectly fine.
I can understand where you're coming from, the backups on my HP Touchpad take 10-12 minutes each and are about 1 gig.

Sent from my SGH-T999V using xda premium
The default backup method is "incremental" as opposed to "full", or dup and tar respectively. I don't know what was going through the mind of the mad genius who wrote it - but it was a bad call. I never have, and never will trust incremental backups.
Whether it's "incremental" or " full" it always works fine for me. I switched to twrp so idk how this backup is made...

TWRP runs full backups. v6 still does it, but not by default.
So if I backup a rom and switch to a different rom but then do a full wipe and restore backup from original rom it'll still be okay even if it's the "incremental" backup?

Probably going to get a Note 2 soon, coming from an S3

I am running CM10 on my current S3. Can I export my SMS/MMS from the S3 to the Note 2 or will I loose them? Everything else on the phone is either in the cloud or a program that I need to re-install so it's not an issue. Thanks!
Pretty sure there is a app that backs up sms

I have titanium backup and I know that does, I just don't know if it restores to a different device correctly
Search for sms backup+
Backups to gmail account just like email.
But then again you are on cm10. That might make a difference.

Use sms backup+ for texts and as for apps and such drag your titanium backup file over and restore
It will work. Titanium backup. But besure to restore asap. It will disorient the order or wipe the newer stuff. I brought my stuff from my samsung infuse. The note 2 and s3 are damn near the same phone software wise. Especially if you go aosp to aosp.
You can cloud the titanium backup via dropbox. But its a bit weird. Id just save it to the sdcard and swap.

Good info, thanks. I'll probably go to the CleanROM once I get it. So not sure its aosp to aosp, but I'll still give it a shot.
Goback up works well too, it also backs up MMS and call logs

In theory yes but unless u know what ur doing it'll never happen, as its more than just moving files around, u need to know how to decompile and recompile because the data ur looking for can't just be moved around
