[Q] return to stock_stock rom - HTC One X

Guys,
1- I unlocked my phone and rooted but still I have stock rom. Only thing I rooted phone was take away the bloody apps provided by HTC.
2- Now I was thinking if I can unroot my phone if I flash stock recovery and re lock my boot loader. Problem here may create also the SU app which allows me to be superuser.
Can I uninstall with titanum and follow second point to re-flash stock recovery and re-lock bootloader.
Would it mes sup my phone or no? ( I have read the other posts to return back to stock but non of them is to return to stock from stock rom).
Or do I have to flash again form very begging?
I have the RUU.exe and other nand back up from forum, but I preferred the current ROM without annoying apps.
Reason why I would like to go to stock recovery is about charging issue on recovery and bootloader. I flashed the latest recovery yesterday 5.8.4.0 but it does not charge battery, no red light no nothing. I read in the forum that to some people recovery 5.8.4.0 charge some phones but mine doesn't. Strange!!!
Also is it normal that even I power down the phone through bootloader when I connec to PC it recognize the phone for USB mass storage and even it gives me some info though adb commands, such as serial no etc.
I'm on JB 3.14.70724
Hboot 1.36
CID HTC__044
Thanks for helping me

Edit : what do you want to achieve ? You are on the latest JB hboot and software ! Just describe what you want in a simple sentence
You want stock recovery ? Just flash the stock recovery and you are done.

Simply I want to flash stock recovery, relock bootloader, and delete superSU.

And then ? This doesn't change anything to the look and feel of the rom.
You can flash stock recovery, this make no changes to the rom. You can lock the bootloader, this make no changes to the phone, you can delete SU app....also no changes to the phone ... only thing is that you can't do anything that requires root acces.

Thanks a lot.

[Q] Restore to stock settings

I have rooted and SOFF'd my phone and need to return it to HTC for a repair.
I want to return the phone to it's stock settings and can only do it by placing the stock .img file on the SD card and booting to fastboot as this is the only thing that works properly...
I did this with my Nexus ages ago but can't recall how I obtained the .img file.
I am currently downloading the HTC vision RUU - can I obtain the .img file from this?
Can someone point me in the right direction?
ok, how did you S-OFF your phone ? Because if you did it via the engineering bootloader, you need to be very careful about flashing a stock .img so you don't brick your phone.
What ROM version are you running now and what do you want to flash ?
Have you tried just restoring factory settings from within the phone, before you go through a re-flash ?
yep, I used the engineered bootloader.
I am trying to use the RUU from HTC but I can't turn on my phone so I don't think ti will work...
Is there a way I can do it from the fastboot menu?
What ROM version did you have on the phone when it went wrong, and what ROM are you trying to flash now exactly ?
Really, all I want to do is return my phone to as close as stock as possible before I return to HTC.
I can't turn it on beyond the fastboot menu but can sometimes access Clockwork recovery for 10min or so.
I am currently running Cyangenmod 6.01 RC4 but have performed a full wipe.
Someone please help! I'm happy to donate!
To answer your question, I am attempting to flash RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155556_signed
Is there anyway I can flash this from recovery or fastboot? I can't switch on my phone and let it fully boot, that's all.
I'm not sure how the ROM versions work with Cyanogen. This is important, because with the eng hboot, if you try and flash an *older" ROM than you're currently running, you can end up bricked.
To be on the safe side, use the "debranding" guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832503 and that should let you flash the ROM safely.
Which HTC RUU are you downloading ? I have the European PC10IMG file (1.34.405.5) at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9728800/PC10IMG.zip
You can extract the PC10IMG.zip file from the RUU if you run the RUU, but then don't press any of the buttons that it pops up, just leave it and go back to your desktop. Then if you navigate to where your OS version has its temp files for your user, you'll find it in there.
Edit - ok, so that's the same ROM that I have there

I don't know if it's safe to do that with the eng hboot when running Cyanogen, that's why I suggested the debranding (gold card) method. Then once you've done that you can flash it from hboot.
all restored
The charging light even now shows up when plugged in which it didn't do before... I'm hoping this is fixed!

proper way to relock bootloader

i tried to relock the bootloader just now but it keeps on rebooting to hboot so i just unlock again and it booted fine albeit being factory reset.
so the question is, after i fastboot oem lock , what should i do to reboot it normally instead of reboot to hboot?
do i need to download RUU exe file and execute it?
i also re flash original recovery since i don't feel like using custom ROM for the time being, i just want to wait for official OTA.
If you want to go back totally stock, then yes just run the RUU again.
M.
It will not boot if you have custom rom installed and oem locked. Hence it keeps rebooting into bootloader with a some warning on the top.
Unlock it again to resume the boot and lose all the settings or run a ruu as suggested before me.

beware if you have a 1.28 based rom (or updated OTA) i dont think a 1.26 based RUU will work. I didnt for me, i had to flash CWM recovery again and a .zip with 1.28.
so we need a new RUU to get back to stock if we have updated hboot.

RE-Lock your bootloader.
Easiest.
Just enter fastboot on your phone then use command prompt and write:
cd..
cd..
cd \fastboot
Then connect phone to cable then type:
'fastboot oem lock'
Edit: Phone must be in fastboot mode before connecting.
And then you will be able to update easily.
Pl guide us in step by step. Pl.

ya followed this guide when rooting and installing clockwork recovery...not installed any custom rom yet..just rooted in phone after unlock.
now not able to do ota which has just arrived in india
Help anyone. have relocked thephone now what. tried to do a factory reset from bootloader menu nothing happens .how do I get the phone back in condition newly bght. even clockwork recovery seems to have gone..this is so disappointing
You didn't need to lock the boot loader. Unlock it using the method you used when you unlocked your phone.
All you need to install the ota depends on what state your device is in before you start.
Are you on the stock from or a custom from?
If stock with unlocked boot loader and clockwork mod recovery then all you needed to do was flash the stock recovery reboot and do the ota.
If you were in a custom rom you will have needed to get back to stock from the nandroid backup you took, flashed stock recovery, and stock boot.img. Then reboot to stock and do OTA.

[Q] Advice before installing custom ROM

Hi all,
Just moved over to the One X from a Desire HD where I had been running Leedroids custom ROMs.
Am loving the One X, but feel I should get another custom ROM on it to make the most of it. Was think of going with Android Revolution.
Anyway.....
I have forgotten the process involved and have tried unsucessfuly to find a 'how to' from scratch. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
At the moment my software info on the phone is as follows....
Android Version 4.1.1
HTC Sense Version 4+
Software number 3.14.401.31
HTC SDK API level 4.63
HTC Extension version HTCExtension_Sense45_1
Kernel Version
3.10-g9fb8f80
Baseband version 5.1204.162.29
Build number 3.14.401.31 C:128187 release-keys
I want to be sure I am ok to custom ROM and also can I backup what I have now, so I can restore back to stock should I need to send it back.
Its on the 02 network, but its unbranded and I think unlocked?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809141
Try this out.
Before that , hold power button and volume down button ( dont leave) for about 15 secs until a white screen with small letters shows up.
On the top either unlocked or locked should be written. Only proceed to install rom if you are unlocked.
If you are locked try this tool to unlock first
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604439
Check your hboot of its unlocked, hold the power button and the volume - button together until you are in the bootloader. It says on the top if its locked or unlocked. If its unlocked you can proceed
Then you need to learn fastboot commands, if you did not learn it already.
With the fastboot commands you have to flash a custom recovery and with that custom recovery you can make a nandroid backup of the stock rom. After that you can install custom roms.
Always keep in mind that you have to flash the boot.img (kernel) separate with fastboot commands to the phone and install the rom.zip from recovery
Cheers. It seems its locked. So, I will get it unlocked by 02 before I carry on.
On the tutorial link, I presume I follow the 'For Users Using Sense 4.1' instuctions?
Mate, SIM unlocking is not the case here. You need to unlock the bootloader.

There is currently no way for us to S-OFF our device. But unlocking the bootloader does a similar thing - it makes us capable of flashing stuff by allowing us to write some partitions that would otherwise be read only.
OK, so I folow the two links that {< r o N o $ provided.
At what point and how do I create a backup of the stock system? Is there a tutorial for that?
Listen:
NAND Backup straight away. (From Pure stock)
Goto HTCDev
Unlock Bootloader
Install SuperSU(this makes root)
Your now unlocked and rooted.
Find custom ROM.
Flash the custom ROM.
Flash the Boot.img
Wipe Cache/Dalvik.
Boot

Eh, how does he do a nandroid backup without unlocking bootloader first??
And why would you root and then install a rooted custom ROM? LOL
More like this:
Goto HTCDev
Unlock Bootloader
Install a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP)
NAND Backup straight away. (From Pure stock)
COPY STOCK BACKUP TO PC
Find custom ROM.
WIPE
Flash the custom ROM.
Flash the Boot.img
Wipe Cache/Dalvik.

[Solved] Installing OTA with S-Off and Root

Update: Well, I took the plunge on my own, and everything worked fine. Flashed firmware.zip, went to stock recovery and flashed OTA, and voila, all good.
So I've bought an HTC device for the first time. I did S-Off and unlocked bootloader and rooted as well. Now, there's an OTA available (I have the Asia_India variant), and I wanted to ask just how would I go about updating.
Here's what I've surmised till now:
1. Revert changes to system partition or it will fail to update (I moved some system APKs, but I saved them for such a scenario.)
2. Flash Firmware.zip to get stock recovery back.
3. Install OTA normally from the notification.
However, I'm still not sure what else I'd need to do (unroot, using the option in SuperSU?), so was wondering if someone could help me out. I've made backups in Philz and TWRP recovery both just to be sure.
P.S.: I extracted the firmware.zip file from the OTA, and tried to open it, but it doesn't open in apps like WinRAR. Is that normal, with the file only flashable via fastboot?
Personally, I'd say remove root just incase it stops the OTA but others will say it doesn't matter so long as the rest of the system is 100% stock as HTC intended it
For OTA updates after having a custom recovery, just flash your ROM stock recovery (search XDA all are available) then run OTA as you normally would and then flash your custom recovery again (if you like to get root again). However personally I would not do this with S-ON device, probably it's better if you're S-OFF while doing this to avoid any problem.
I am also interested in this. What would be the risk if I do this with S-ON? Assume I flash the wrong stock recovery or do some other mistake, won't I still be able to flash my custom recovery back from fastboot and get everything back up and running?
Thanks to whom will answer. :good:

So long as the phone still boots to fastboot, yes (although unlocking the boot loader will delete any backups so make sure you backup the backup to your PC before doing anything else!)
Thank you for your answer. As far as you know, being S-ON, is there really any kind of mistake one can do to brick the phone so that it doesn't even boot to fastboot?
Also, if my bootloader is already unlocked, no data wipe is going to happen again flashing a firmware/OTA in any predictable case, right?
Once again, thank you or anybody else who knows the answer.
By the way, are there any FAQs answering these questions? There are some FAQs here and there, but none seems to be very clear on these matters.

If you're S-ON there's not a lot you can do to brick the phone. You could wipe the ROM and have it not boot but you should always be able to get back to fastboot. This is where S-OFF is only handy to have if RUUs are about (it's the ONLY reason I am S-OFF, it's purely for a 'going back to stock' standpoint)
Yes, if the bootloader is already unlocked then you're good to go
