I love the HOX+ its a great phone, but i also love the features of the Note II. I just recently got a contract with At&t and have a few days left to decide if i wanna keep the HOX+ or switch for something else. Only other phone i would switch with is the Note II or just wait for the Nexus 4. But the thing i'm worried about(which i'm having the same concerns with most phones) is At&t versions hardly getting any support when international(waaay more expensive versions) get the best roms, mods, etc. Any opinions on this matter would help.......thanx

I had the HOX+ and even though it's a nice phone. I keep coming back to the Note 2. I honestly believe that you'll be happy with the Note 2 for the simple fact that even though AT&T is slow with updates. Everything from the International version is able to be ported over to us, and there are some busy Devs at the moment keeping us happy.
Here is the order of phones I just tried... Note 2 --- IP5 ---- Note 2 ---- HOX+ ---- Note 2 ----- IP5 ----- Optimus G ---- NOTE 2... and I'm keeping it for a while this time LOL!
Lots of cool ROMs with the att gn2. I would not let that deter you from getting the phone. Be more concerned about the size and screen quality. The HTC one x+ has a killer screen!

All the Note IIs are so similar. We will see a lot of international ROMs and plenty on the AT&T base. Check out the dev section. Anything with Multi-View is a port from the international version. Plus it probably won't be long until there is a really easy way to port your own ROM of choice. On the GS II they called it Hell-Raise. It was a two step process: flash what ever international version you wanted, then flash a tiny package that made the right changes. And that was with phones with different button layouts, and some weird physical microphone differences. The 317 and 7105 are virtually identical.

I was one that got burned by HTC with the Inspire4G/DesireHD (saying they'll support and put out ICS then decide to not). I will never get another HTC phone again... Super happy with my Note II

The number of people that don't feel burned by HTC in one way or another gets smaller each day. Whether its being obsoeleted with a new flagship after just a few months, or promised updates that never arrive, or both (the One X is still on the list for JB right?).
Being on a Samsung phone again is like breathing fresh air again.

I played with a HOX+ the other day and despite the fact that is a much faster phone on paper, my Note 2 just felt WAY faster and smoother. I'm extremely happy I got this instead. Touchwiz is super light and very fast on here.

Sell your HTC One X+ before HTC releases the One X++ and makes the resale value of your phone utter sh*t. This is from a HTC One X owner who is still trying to sell this phone.

Exactly HOW is the HOX+ "much faster on paper"? The extra 100mhz over the 1.6ghz in the Note 2? If you think the hox+ is much faster than the note 2 even on paper then you have very little knowledge of mobile hardware- Tegra 3 can suck my bojangles. You do realize the HOX+ only has 1gb of ram too? In virtually every comparison done, the quad exynos has dominated Tegra 3, even the higher clocked new Tegra 3 is killed by the quad exynos. I don't see any spec where it's "much faster" than the note 2,in fact, the only spec it "wins" in is internal storage.
The only devices that give the quad exynos 4412 a run for its money are the quad kraits and even then the exynos wins in many benchmarks/usage scenarios that the majority of people care about. (the only benchmark the hox+ sometimes beats the note 2 in is quadrant and it's not by much. Sun spider, antutu, geek bench all go to note 2- quadrant is heavily reflective of gaming performance only whereas the others are more demonstrative of daily use.)
Go to engadget and read the Nexus 4 review. They compare the note 2 to the Optimus G and Nexus 4. Go see how the exynos did- the devices it beat would dominate the hox+.
I'm shocked you think the hox+ is faster in *any* category- on paper or not. Half the ram, crappy processor... Yea.

Dude... calm down lol. I was referring to the quadrant benchmarks. Engadet did a review of this device and it destroyed all on that test. It also did a little better than the Note 2 on a couple other tests. I did however forget that it only has 1 GB of ram. It seems like every flagship phone that comes out has 2 GB so i assumed that HTC would be smart and follow suit. But like I already said, using the device it feels very slow compared to my Note 2 despite the higher clock speed. The Note 2 is DEFINITELY a better buy.

I dont think its fair to say benchmarks mean NOTHING...they have a story to tell as well, friend.
I personally came from the ONEX to the N2, and I gotta say, I can never go back to HTC....
I think the HTC is built a little more solid, but other than that I pick the note 2 for everything else.

HTC typically has good build quality on the outside. They have a premium feel. Other than that they are inferior in every way to Samsungs latest devices. Just my opinion. I think they are much better then they use to be but still not quite on Samsungs level.

As bananas as the other fella went, I doubt it would compete with the note. RAM is pretty significant.

As an ex-HD2 owner I completely disagree. HTC is only going downhill and their market share and share prices reflect that.
Since the Nexus 4 was mentioned in the OP: I had the Nexus 4 for about two weeks and it was definitely the faster than the Note 2 as far as interface goes. The Note 2 has some barely perceptible lag at times, but the Nexus 4 is instantaneous and comparable to the iPhone 5 in terms of UI response. This might simply be TouchWiz vs. no-skin and it's possible the Note 2 is just as fast on AOSP/AOKP.
I kept the Note 2 for the features, expandable storage, removable battery, battery life and since I needed something to replace my phone and tablet. If Google releases a 32GB Nexus 4 for $350/400 I would strongly consider it.

I also had the N4 and the difference is pretty minimal. It is pretty much entirely Touchwiz, which offers way more featueres at the cost of some noticable lag.
With CM10 surely coming in a more fully functional manner shortly, the Note II will be just as fast (if not faster) than the N4.
I wouldn't compare those 2 phones in any way, there is zero I was wowed about with the N4. I would rather have my Lumia 920 or GS3 back before the n4.

I thought the difference was noticeable though.
I don't think the Note 2 could be faster than the Nexus 4 if the latter has a custom kernel (e.g. franco's) to take care of the abysmal thermal throttling issue. The N4 just has faster core hardware.

It is definitely noticeable, Touchwiz is without question laggy compared to AOSP, no matter what phone you have or how hard you tweak it. This is the smoothest TW experience I have had though.
I think on even software it would be hard to see any performance difference of the N4 S4 1.5ghz quad vs the Note II's 1.6ghz Quad Exynos in the OS anyway. I will be surprised if CM10 (once closer to a finished product) is any slower than a stock N4 AOSP experience.
That all sad I'll take the minor TW lag over the N4's poor build quality (Humming, rattling, creaking), dull screen (doesn't have to be AMOLED saturated, but those colors are just bleh), poor battery life, slippery back, and onscreen buttons that hog up precious screen space. My personal opinion of course, YMMV.
I have done much research, and have almost made up my mind. Please, convince me...
The number one factor in my decision is how fast the fan-boys reply... Lol/JK... I'm sorry, but seriously, nobody yet?
Having owned both, I can unequivocally say, the Note 2. The difference in size is not much, but the extra battery and screen estate is REALLY awesome :good: And the best part, the 2gb of RAM. I used to notice lags with the 1gb of RAM on the international version of the S3, however with this phone, nothing seems to bring it to its knees.. EVER!!
Thanks for your response. No offense, but next...

Everything said is true but the size part. The Note 2 is better in every aspect than the S3 but honestly I still not feel comfortable with its size (after more than 1 month) regarding a normal phone usage with one hand such as while standing on a train and so on. (of course when you can use it with 2 hands the big size goes back to be a positive)
Note 2. Why are you even considering another ?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
I currently have both and hands down prefer the Note 2. Though you really need to take into account the size. Some people just cannot hold the Note 2 comfortably.
That being said, I'm about 5'5" and can type one handed with minimal issues.
All I can say is that although I admire the performance of my note 2 compared to my previous S3...I've dropped my note II on 2 occasions while trying to make a phone call with one hand, which never happened with my S3. I've got big hands but this thing is just too slim, slippery and wide(not a good combo imo) to use comfortably with one hand. Of course if you can live with it then by all means go with the Note 2.

note 2 has same resolution, but 50% more subpixels leading to a sharper screen with more vibrant colours. bigger screen as well.
one of the things i hated about my note 1 was that it never had enough ram. everytime i tried to multitask with something like like going from browser to sending a text message, it would dump all the browser memory data, so when i go back to browser, it would have to reload that whole page. this was on a 1gb note 1. when i heard the s3 only had 1gb as well, i envisioned having a similar problem, which my friend confirms with his s3. so the 2gb ram of the note 2 is much much better.
if you plan to overclock, then internals dont matter too much, but note 2 has higher clocked CPU and GPU.
battery life is monstrous, even compared to my note 1. soooo many more software optimisations leading to much much better battery life.
I have the Note 1,Note 2 and s3 and think the Gn2 is awesome! If you dont mind the size you would be silly not to get the Note 2

Souai summed it up pretty well, go with note 2, you won't regret it.
If you use your phones one handed often, then definately avoid the note 2.
I would suggest the LTE S3 with 2GB RAM.
As a novalty gadget note 2 is a winner. Fast powerfull and full of juice but omg the other day I was carrying my shopping and the damn phone rang it was almost impossinle to pick it up from my jackets pocket to answer it one handed and then the fear of dropping it on to the floor. If you need to make loads of calls and after practicality maybe wait for s4

For me that's a completely pointless comparison.
You can't consider Note 2 an upgrade over S3 because they're completely different devices. Note 2 is an upgrade for Note 1 users, and S3 is an upgrade for S2 users.
If you want to jump from S3 to Note for bigger screen - then in this particular aspect it will be an upgrade, but only because you actually switch between market segments.
If you don't care about bigger screen, s-pen support and 3100mah battery - then the 1 extra gig of ram is not really worth replacing your device for. And CPU is basically the same.
If you want big screen, s-pen and great battery life for your media pleasure - then yes, Note 2 - or simply switching from smartphone to 'phablet' segment will be an upgrade solely because of its screen.
Once you go phablet, you won’t go back

I completely agree. My partner has the S3 and I love the S3. I have the Note 2 and I love the Note 2. The S3 is perfect for him, and the Note 2 is perfect for me!
I REALLY like the 2GB of Ram. The screen is nice, while the same resolution as the S3. So WHILE most people LOVE the display on the Note 2, the S3 has more PPI which some people say makes it better, while others say it doesn't. It's a matter of opinion. I love my note 2 and its display.
Is the Note 2 an upgrade over the S3? No. Only because they're DIFFERENT devices! They're for different people. My partner sees the Note 2 and says "Wow I want it!" but then says he can't use it as easily with one hand, can't take it with him to work out (I only run, so it's easy in the pocket). I like big text and large areas to read on, and the Note 2 gives that to me! It's all about personal preference. The Note 2 and S3 are VERY similar in hardware. VERY VERY similar.
A huge improvement over the note 1. The additional ram more than doubles what the note1 had as you only had 700mb left after android. Compare to 1.7 after android on note 2. Just for that reason it's a good upgrade. The CPU quad v dual, upgraded vid and screen, led notification and physical home button also are great upgrades.

Disgraceful!!
Processors have gone backwards! My 10yr old pentium 4 was over 3ghz, now my i7 is only 1.8ghz!!!!! Still use my pentium 4 when doing more demanding stuff for the extra mhz it offers.
Yup.
LOL fade, go easy on him mate. Still, can't believe I just read that :/
Anywho - I'd still recommend Note II if you love bigger screens. Battery and large screen are so good, the upgrades in rest of the areas wouldn't make you feel like you've made the wrong choice. Unless of course, you're waiting for Note III. Won't settle for lesser screen size and especially the battery size. Personally those are more important to me than octa core processor etc - I mean why would I need a bloody octa core processor anyways? Can't think of any App/Game my note won't run.

Good point.
If 1080p screen is a big thing for you, and it does make a difference when watching movies, then I can see why you'd want to choose the S4 over it. But, for me, 720p is fine and I like this size screen over the extra resolution. Similarily Octa core won't be a drastic difference, unless it has a funky new way of saving battery. But even so, it won't beat the battery life of the Note 2 anyway. If the Note 3 isn't stupidly large, and somehow has a more power efficient processor, then I will be very happy indeed.
Ok, thanks all =)

Perseus both on S3 and Note 2, there will be more clarity on the S3 of course because of more PPI.
But with screen calibration, it could possibly beat a retina Apple display.
in my opinion the S3 is not as clear.
this is because the S3 has a pentile screen(2 colors per pixel instead of the regular 3), so while it has a slightly higher ppi it has a lower sppi and a noticeable pattern in the screen that looks a bit like a chain link fence.
and I don't know what you've heard about the features on the S3, but as far as I know the note 2 has all features the S3 has and some exclusive features.
It would be safe to say that with additional ram on the note 2, it's future proofed against newer Rom updates. 2GB is becoming the trend and will be required as more and more features are being added to roms. Since you mentioned the S3 has more features, I am curious to know what extra features does the S3 have over the Note 2?

It is the Note 2 which has the greater range of features, not the other way around.

After reading above comments and user reviews,my reaction towards S3 is-How the fu**in hell i was wondering to buy S3 ..fu*k u S3.
The international LTE version of s3 has 2gb ram and the same processor as note 2
Samsung Galaxy S3 = Phone benchmark
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 = Phone BENCHMARK ALL CAPS
mannyvinny bro, i was also in same situation when i was planning to buy the phone about a month back. Both are lovely sets. In my case, in the end .. 2gb ram was THE ONLY reason i bought the note2. See s4, xperiaz, htc one .. all new devices are coming with 2gig ram. Trust me this was real factor i got this beast. Secondly larger screen is always plus. And pixel density, i dont hardly see any difference :silly:
So, my suggestion.. go for note 2. Spend your hard earned money on some feature proof device.
edit, do read the SDS issue related thread before purchasing!
Buy an S3 i9305 with 2gb. I'm thinking of moving there as my note's size is beginning to bug me. Yes 2gb is a bliss when I tap to open Facebook and it opens instantly, as opposed to my previous note1 which killed it everytime in need of free ram, as it is a really heavy app 70+MB. Because in reality 1gb ram translates in 200-300mb free, which can be filled really quickly and it's really frustrating and embarrasing waiting for some secs for apps to load, when I have a beast of a phone.
i used both GN2 and S4.....and i like note2 more than s4......big screen long hr battery for internet surfing and gaming....and how can my fingers replace the amazing spen

There's still an issue with the S3 LTE which is the fact that LTE consumes more power and yet the battery pack remained unchanged. Also the LTE version only has an additional ram but not the same CPU clock speed as the Note 2, by default at least.

I owned an S3 and a Note 2 and I can tell you in my opinion it does make a difference, Note 2 is noticeably better.
