Hi! I´m new here,and I did this post because I have a problem with my S3 T999, battery related.
I know that there are a lot of threads with problems very similar with mine, but I think that mine is a little bit different, so, here's my situation:
I got this phone 5 days ago, and I was very happy with it, but everything changed when I put it to charge, first of all, I noticed that my cellphone was charging waaaay slower than my previous mobile (LG Nitro HD), my first thought was "Ok, looks like this phone takes more time to get fully charged" but then I noticed something weird, that my mobile, the closer it was getting to 50%, the slower it charged, and finally, when it reached 50%-55%, it completely stopped charging.
I got some images to show you guys, the system is in spanish (sorry about that) but I think that it shows the information regardless the language.
View attachment 1540687
As you can see, my cellphone starts charging when the battery is low, but then when it reach 50% it stops completely, that's an strange behavior that I can't understand. Another thing that I noticed, is that the software displays "USB Connected" (Conectado a USB) and apparently it is charging at 3.48% /h, but actually it is connected to the AC, if I unplugg it and plug it again, sometimes it detects the AC Charging but it displays "Discharging", and if I reset the phone, it changes to USB Connected and "Charging" the same as before.

I also noticed that the inside of my cellphone´s usb connector is a little messed up, some pins were twisted and I think that there is a missing one because I only see 4 pins instead of 5, but I don't know sincerely, I already put in place the pins but is the same result, if somebody can take a picture of their phone's USB connector it would be extremely appreciated
Sooo... I don´t know what's going on with the phone, I don't know if it is a hardware problem or a software problem, actually I switched between different ROMS, 4.0.4 from T-Mobile, 4.1.1 from T-Mobile and now I have CM10 but the problem is the same in the 3 ROMS.
So what do you think guys? I don't know what to do :C please help.
Cheers!!

Reset your flash counter, flash stock, and return. It sounds like a faulty battery, but if you're missing a pin( I have 5), then its probably the jack.
Thank you for you response.
I don't know if the battery is the problem, probably it is, but i think that is very weird the behavior of the phone while charging, I mean, it starts charging well, slowly but well, then it just slow down until it stops at 56% (maximum charge i've reached) and then it suddenly goes to 100%, but if I disconnect the cellphone it comes back to 56% , that behavior happened me a couple of times.
I already used another usb cable and power adaptor, changed the battery, but everything is the same.
In my opinion I think that the problem is something that regulates the charge process, I don't know, maybe it is a software bug or a faulty chip that regulates the charge, it's hard to know.
Cheers!

Ok I think that I'm going to send it back and pick another one, could you please tell me how can I reset the flash counter? I don't have an idea of how to do it, I would be very thankful.

before you do all that why don't you just wipe battery stats and try that?

Reboot into recovery, go to Advanced menu and there's an option to wipe battery stats. Go back and reboot the phone.

Thank you! ok I already did that, but looks like the % of the phone is the same as before (right now at 49%) let me put it to charge again and see if now it charges normally.
Cheers!
Ok looks like the problem persist, it's not charging (stuck at 49%) :C

Wipe the battery stats again, let it die completely and then WITH THE DEVICE OFF plug it in and charge over night. do NOT turn it on when it's charging.

Download Triangleaway from the Playstore. Run the app, but you have to be rooted. Then just Odin stock recovery firmware.
Buy an external charger and find out if its your battery.
Thanks for your advices guys.
I'm going to do everything you said, I just hope that the problem is some kind of battery calibration or bad readings, because by the way the phone behave while charging, at least to me, means that the problem is more on the software side than the hardware one, but I don't discard the hardware one too.
Thank you again, I´m going to erase the stats again, drain the battery and then charge it again with the phone off, let's hope that fixes the problem, if not, then I'm going to buy an external charger and see if the battery is the problem, and lastly I´m going to do the triangleaway solution to erase the counter.
Cheers!

One way to check of faulty battery is checking if the battery is bumpy.

I just thought of this. Can you transfer Data on your computer to your phone using your USB Cable? If it fails, then that pretty much Narrows it to your bad pins or a bad cable...

Hi! I have no problems with data transfer between the phone and my pc,actually I just put in my phone's internal memory 7 gb of music without any errors, the only problem that happens with data transfer occurs when I cancel a transfer, if I try to transfer a file again it says that can't be possible, the way to fix is simply to unplug and plug the phone again, it starts working flawlessly.
I don't know how the USB pins distribution works, maybe the damaged pins are only for charging? I was looking for schematics of the USB dock on the web, but I didn't find anything.
Thanks for your comments!
EDIT: Well... a moment ago I was putting some new music into the device, and suddenly I got random USB disconnections, and immediatly the device was detected again by the computer, that kind of problems happened to me some time before,and a way to fix it is by reinstalling USB drivers... that's weird, so... maybe that can be also pin related?

I'm leaning towards a faulty jack. Have you tried another charger or cable? What pin is missing? Count from the left with the screen facing up or take a picture if possible.

Yes. Physically feeling the battery is a way to see if it's faulty. Bad batteries are always physically inflated.
What you can possibly do is completely wipe everything from your phone and PC Odin Stock Firmware then let it sit there for a good 15 minutes after the installation completed. Turn off your phone and charge it overnight. If your phone still charges up to 50%, buy a new battery/charger and see if the problem persist. If your device still charges up to 50%, then the usb port is physically damaged (you did mention about a missing pin).
There are two ways to repair the usb port. One is buying the usb port, detaching your device and replacing the usb port (I highly NOT recommend this method) or you can do a JTAG service.
I'm guessing Spanish is your primary language. I can explain these to you in Spanish in a PM.

Hi! Yes I already tried another cables,samsung ones, blackberry ones, even a blackberry AC charger non USB, but not luck.
The missing pin is apparently the fourth one, here's a picture,but is with the screen facing down, I hope you can see it:

My phone has started acting weird lately and im not sure why, it could just be a bad battery but im not sure until i put another one in it tomorrow. Ive been using myns 2.2 for a few weeks, and cm6 for a long time.
Myns has been setup the same way for weeks, no changes at all. Yesterday i woke up and my phone was dead, but before i went to sleep it had a little over 70% battery.
Its not my charger ives tried different usb cables, car charger, etc. The battery icon will change to charging but the % never goes up....
Any other ideas except a bad battery?
Could always do a nandroid backup, then do a wipe reinstall, just to see if its OS or app related. Then if no change was found in regards to battery drainage,you could go do a nandroid restore, if you found it was just a bad battery all along.

i did a backup and full wipe earlier when my phone still had about 30% battery. Still wont charge.
Turn your phone off, and plug it into a USB charger, see if it charges. If not, try plugging into a USB port on a laptop/desktop, while the phone's still off.
Just a shot in the dark here.

So your usb will power the phone enough to turn on? Can you do all adb type things like the USB is connecting right? It could always be the battery or bad contacts/solder on the phone part

Assuming you flashed new Rom correctly, you can start to look at battery and hardware.
Id start wig battery, maybe sprint store has one laying around they could pop in ling enough to observe its behavior. Maybe buy heap battery from ebay.
I m not the authority on anything but I would flash back to stock and ask Sprint store to help you out. If you walk in with custom Rom they may flag you. I find it hard to believe you have a bad battery already, but I have seen stranger things.
How long does it take to charge? And precisely how long it last? An hour? 30mins?
Oh my bad, I see its not charging at all. Could be bad cable. Bad thing is, if they find that he usb port is damaged they may not warranty that. But who knows.

ok well its been solved. narrowed it down to the usb port. sprint guy agreed and ill have a replacement on wednesday!
have you checked this out

My phone has been going insane for the last two days. It will think that it is charging when it isn't plugged in. Sometimes it will cycle between not charging and charging at a rapid rate, causing the screen to turn on and stay on (the screen will normally turn on when plugged in). I've tried various resets, battery pulls, etc. This is not a rooted device. If I pull the battery and then reboot the phone, the battery will be 10-15% lower than when I pulled the battery only a minute earlier. Anyone experience this?
This has been happening to a lot of people. It is indeed a hardware problem. There is a way to fix it, what u need to do it reposition the USB female receiving jack ever so slightly.
1) turn the phone off and take the battery out
2) take a toothpick, knife , pin or whatever will fit into the micro USB slot of the galaxy nexus.
3) VERY VERY slowly make it so that the little shelf like connector is in the middle.
4) connect ur phone and it will work like new. This works for a lot of people. I did this a few hours ago and my phone now charges perfect
RECOMENDATION : when it starts to charge you should restore a stock image and lock the boot loader so that you can get a new phone replaced . This is a way to fix it but this hardware issue shouldve never happened in the first place and it should warrant a return. Let me know what happens!

However, I've detailed re-locking and returning to stock via my guide with a broken USB port if it ever gets to that point for you/anyone.

I don't think "doing this a few hours ago" is really a long enough time to say it works perfectly. The same thing happened to my phone and I have seen several people claim this solution fixes the problem. I tried it and it fixed it for about two days but then it came back, and it won't go away now regardless of what I do with the charging port. I am starting to believe there is no solution but to buy a new phone
New glitch spotted when phone is of and in the charger it wil chrage for like 2 seconds and then the animation saays the phone is full!but 2seconda later its charging again so on and so on... sort of chargingloop..

i had the same exact issue try wiping dalvik ,battery stats and cache under recovery, fixed all issued...i think this was caused after using the fast ac charge on francos kernal.
i found a solution.
I had the same problem. at the the begining it didn´t charge. i made hard reset and nothing. i ordered a new battery and nothing. Then i see something different in tee microusb port when i compared it with an xperia x10 port. I realise that the tiny plate inside the port was bended. then with a needle i straighten it, and the charge bolt icon returns to life. But after that some times it comes up without charging conection. Then i found some blog post that said that the "Dock Connector Charging Port Flex Cable Ribbon For Samsung Galaxy Nexus i9250" was the problem. I found a guide to disassemble an change that micro usb port, it is really easy, i made in 30 minutes, even been the first time. I bought the replacement part in ebay (ebay.com/itm/-/130656140500?item=130656140500&viewitem=&ViewItem) but after that i found many web stores with it an cheaper prices.

Sorry, I have been having the same issues with my gnex, after it hits full charge the charging indicator will flash on and off on my screen until I reach 90% on my battery then it will quit the rest of the day.. always does it after hitting full charge so please read what I've done and still have the same problem...... I have used multiple batteries, same problem, I've used different chargers, same problem, I even bought that part off ebay and replaced the charge port inside of the phone, same problem.. and I even tried all of this before receiving the jelly bean update, and even after the update I still have the same charging error issue... does anyone know of any other solutions? I've done them all I think.
I had a very similar issue (the phone would charge ONLY if turned off, computer would not recognize the USB device 90% of the time).
Turns off that fuzz and dandruff had accumulated at the bottom of the USB port (you couldn't see it) so i took a needle and carefully pried it out, it was a nice sized ball of stuff that was preventing the USB port from making clean contact with the cable.
Hope that helps

I am stuck in the same boat as you. I have tried almost everything but it seems that this issue keeps persisting. I don't have warranty so it isn't like I can give it in for replacement. I don't know what else is there to do
I'm going insane reading these.
Google is your best friend in the whole world. Your best friend. If you're out of warranty, the best you can do is use a pogo dock, or replace, like take apart your GalNex and replace the port with a part bought from eBay.
Or, if you look at some of the other 99 threads about this, some people fixed theirs by adjusting the port with a screwdriver or something like that. Can't say I recommend that though.

I don't think there is a problem with USB port. I can charge my phone via the USB connection from my laptop, but the same is not possible when I use he same charger with wall unit charging. Also If I reboot my phone then I can even charge it via the wall unit.
It seems something to do with some app or battery temp.....

at the 1st time i connect my phone to pc in fastboot mod ( VOL up + VOL down + POWER ) system recognize it android 1.0 and then i leave my phone on fastboot mod for 2 or 3 hours then i restart my phone again and see that charging is 100% :good: :good:
i know this is not a good solution bit it helps
sorry for my bad english
I've tried and this solution works!

Cheers mate! Was all set to get a replacement ribbon and maybe buy a temporary device... your simple tip had the phone charging again in seconds.
Bit embarrassed I didn't think of the obvious, worked in mobile 10+ years. Phone is 7 years old and still going strong... thanks again, made my day )
Well here's my story.
An app was misbehaving which made the phone's screen turn on and off. I was told that it might be lint in the charging port that was causing the problem. Cleaned it and the problem consisted. So I downloaded better battery stats and it ended up being a misbehaving app that I uninstalled and the problem went away. So now what happened was that it wasn't charging. I looked around and searched and most threads led to changing the charging port. So I did, I ordered a charging port on eBay for $13 from NJ and it arrived to me a week and a half later. I replaced the charging port and nothing changed. The phone recognizes that it's plugged in and says charging but it the settings it says discharging and not charging (AC). So then I thought it could be the battery. So I went ahead and bought an OEM battery for $20 which was a pretty good deal. And still, no charging. I then remembered it could just be the charging cable. Stupid me I said. Then I tried my friend's SII's charging cable and yet again no charging.
Now before I sell my phone and go buy a different one, is there anything else I've missed? Anything else that could be causing this problem?
Bump. Anybody have any ideas?
You said you used a different cable. Did you also try a different charger (you probably did)? Did you try AC charging and USB charging?

I figured you already did. Don't have any insights for you I'm afraid, you already did what I would recommend.
The first thing I would've done was to do a factory reset to rule out an app causing the problem cause just uninstaling maby erases the app but the app could've done something that messed up the system. you never know. then I would go after the cable and the charger, then the battery and then the charging port etc
I highly doubt an app can make your device stop charging.

I have the same problem, my phone is charging but when it's unplugged it shows "connected", and the screen turns on and off and drains all the battery... actually I just bought a new USB port and I'm waiting it to arrive so I can change mine... and I'm very dissapointed to read that it won't work ... It seems to be a massive manufacturing defect, there is a lot of people with this problem and samsung is not responding.

Most of the time it's the charging port. Hopefully it will solve your problem, good luck:good:
One other thing to add in. When it's plugged in and i dial #*#4636#*# it says "Connection problem or invalid MMI code."
But I can still transfer files via USB

No, I ended up selling the phone for $300 so a friend of mine of knew what the problem was all about and since he had a crappy phone he didn't really care that it had a charging problem.
I'm about to buy either a Galaxy Note, S3 or One X.
I have an LG Nitro and for some reason it stopped charging. The notification icon shows it as charging but the battery continues to go down. I tried buying another battery as I thought maybe the battery was going out but this was not the issue. So next, I ordered a charging port and attached (soldered) it to the device, this also did not resolve the issue. I am kind of at a loss at what to do as the phone is in perfect condition but will not take a charge. The Nitro is rooted with TWRP recovery and CM 10.1 installed on the device.
I now have a Nexus 4 but was planning on giving the Nitro to my cousin but then this started happening right before my Nexus arrived.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on? All of the symptoms point to either a bad battery or charging port but this is obviously not the case.
Thanks
Also, if I plug the device in and hit the key, it shows the battery icon going up and down but it does not charge.
Come on, I know one of you has an idea as to what is happening
A few thoughts...
1. Are you using the official LG AC Adapter? If not, are you using an AC Adapter that's outputting AT LEAST 500mA? For me, in the car using GPS, even with a car adapter that outputs 1.0A, it can't keep up with charging the battery. It shows that it's charging, but the capacity continues to go down...
2. Are you using any kind of CPU under/over clocker? Like SetCPU? Check the settings and make sure you're not using some crazy profile, or better yet just uninstall it and test to see if things get better.
3. How about the USB Cable? Have you tried other cables to make sure you're not using a bad cable?
4. Double-check your solder work. Are you're connections clean, no globs or solder points covering more than a single pin? Connections are solid, nothing loose or gaps?
Good luck!

Thanks for your suggestions. I will look into your idea.

I do not think I have the charger that came with the p930 as it got stolen but I do have the charger from my Nexus 4. Do you think it will work? The N4 charger has 1200 milliamp output or should I order an OEM charger.
I think I used the charger from my HP Touchpad which is 2000mA but it didnt work. I may be mistaken.....
I will look into getting an OEM charger.
Might be charging...
Ok I made some progress finally!! I have a 700mA charger plugged in and now the LG logo comes on and then blinks off. :good:
Hopefully the battery is charging and by morning it will be working.
Wish me luck!!! :highfive:

I can get into download mode and would be able to get in to the twrp but I do not have a backup and my sdcard got corrupted.
What are my options now?
Thanks
The 1.2A from the Nexus4 is great. That should do nicely.
1. Are you ABSOLUTELY sure this adapter from the Nexus4 is working properly (have you verified that it's working fine with your Nexus4)? If so, then plug it into the Nitro.
2. If the Nitro is powered off, then when you first connect a power source, you should see the 'LG' logo come on for a second then go back off. After a minute you can short-press the power button and you 'should' see an animated battery icon that looks like it's filling up. The battery charging icon looks like this (lower quality image on the phone):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3. Let the phone charge for an hour. Now, press and hold the power button until you see the 'LG' logo, let go of the power button. The phone 'should' start powering on.
When you say 'Still blinking on and off', what is? If it's the soft-touch buttons on the bottom, that's an indicator that the battery is low...So, indeed the issue continues.

I mean the phone turns on, I see the LG logo and then it turns off. Then it turns back on and I see the LG logo and it turns off again. Make sense ?
I can get into Download mode just fine and would be able to get into TWRP but my sdcard crapped out.
I know about charging the device with the phone off (seeing the charging dialog) but the phone keeps turning off and back on blinking the LG logo.
If I still had TWRP on my sdcard, I could of went to the Factory Reset screen and went into TWRP and let it charge from there and then wipe it and install cm 10.1 again.
Is there anyway to load the recovery.img to the sdcard without being able to boot the phone? I am pretty sure I cannot use adb in Download mode so I am kind of stuck and I do not want to flash to stock if I can help it but I will if I have to.
I think its a hardware problem and your phone need to be repaired
I had a sony ericson p990 and had the same problem you said
The repairman told me he has exchanged some of transistors

I tend to agree with nss007, the constant fluctuation of the power/charging going on and off is a big red flag to hardware issues.

Well I actually took it to a cellphone repair company (only one in the area) and they had it for about a week and could not get it to charge. They also changed out the charging port and looked the board over. Of course, they were obviously not using the right charger as they could not even get the LG logo to come up. I am hoping that it is a software issue as the company could not find a single thing wrong with the phone or board. Of course, they mainly fix hardware (broken screens, charging ports, etc.) so I dunno how much experience they have with software.

A few months back, my Nitro fell off my table while the charger was attached. Ever since then, it is doing what you say; showing a charging icon but it actually isn't charging.
Just a few suggestions that I've learned over time dealing with this problem... When you are plugging it in, be sure it is setting where you intend for it to sit. Basically, don't plug it in THEN set it down. I've noticed that ANY movement whatsoever will knock the phone off charge but still show the charging animation/icon. This problem is completely independent of the state of the phone; i.e. what ROM I'm booted in to, whether or not I'm in recovery, and even with the device powered off.
How to tell if you are actually charging; open your settings and go to the battery settings. Where it normally says "Discharging" will change to "Charging (USB)" or "Charging (AC)" if you are actually charging. Even with the charger attached, any movement of the phone will almost instantly throw it into "Discharging" while still showing the animation/icon.
Hope any of this helps.
Hello!
My phone suddenly stopped charging... and now it is dead... now... like every 3 or 5 minutes, it vibrates by itself, even if unplugged... Anyone heard of this issue?
More info in my last post:
I'm unlocked, rooted, xposed, installed Beanstalk ROM, etc... But I did that months ago (I don't know, 6 months ago?) and it has been working flaglessly, I didnt do ANY change prior to this problem (really, no changes, not even a new appp installed or removed in months)
So I really think it is something in the usb charger.... Maybe I'm wrong and it got bricked somehow... please validate that.
Also, it still vibrating at least once every five minutes. (I woke up all night with it vibrating and now it is on my desk and it still does it)
I just tried an adb wait-for-devices and nothing happens, also tried to reboot it the same way and nothing happens.
Now, I remember that I did something before the phone turned off (battery ran off) I deactivated an Xposed module (latalysm or somethign like that) and didn't reboot it to complete the deactivation. Maybe it has something to do with 0% battery and that?
I really don't think so... But your advice is really welcome.
Thank you in advance.
Did you rooted or unlocked?

You are bricked .
Check unbricking threads...

New data:
When I pluggin the phone to the PC, the PC plays the "hardware detection sound" but then it disconnects too. Maybe it has something to do with the battery or something related?
Thank you in advance, phone is still dead.
Mario.
Well... my phone is now even more dead... I think the problem is the battery, even if I try to charge it doesn't even get warm, I replaced the usb piece of the phone expecting that it was something with that but no... Now I'm waiting to get a replacement battery.
Anyone heard of the same issue? I've found many people having the same issue, but most of them solved the problem unplugging the battery and then plugging it back again.
Please help!
Regards.

I have exactly the same problem. It's like the phone is not charging at all. Have you tried taking the battery out and then in?
Small update: I've tried 4 different chargers and god knows how many different cables, tried connecting it to the PC, nothing seems to help.

Yes I tried that 2 months ago... But yesterday... I arrived home and tried to charge again, waited about 2 hours, turned it in and pop... I have the phone again (I keep losing phone and data signal, but... come on, it is on now)... So I don't know... I heard many times that pluging in and off the battery and "waiting" seemed to work for a lot of people, but come on... 2 months?

That is a lot... I waited 2 months... sorry I don't know anything about the matter... but don't lose faith, maybe it will turn on again someday.... Advice, charge it and leave it charging for... a week? then try again.
I've decided to fiddle with a needle inside the USB charging port recently. After that my phone suddenly was recognised by the computer and started charging and working. After I connect it to the real charger, doesn't matter if it's original or not, it stops working and doesn't even charge from the PC. Then I have to fiddle inside the charging port and everything works again... wtf really? what can be dead?

I'm not so sure... It sound's more like I'm either grounding some contacts or I'm somehow short circuiting something. Maybe it could be a broken capacitor or something? That would explain why your phone started working after 2 month.
Well in any case it would be interesting íf somebody with that issue would try touching the contacts in the USB port with metal needle and connect the phone to the PC.
I've ordered a new USB thingy already and going to swap it soon, I'll keep you updated.
I have try to change the battery and the usb port. The battery work one time but won't charge. Can't say if it is the same issue or because is is a cheap battery
Any news NiKiToS?
