So it seems my Wifi is broken. I have another phone, which is mostly functional except for the vibration is dead, but that's not the point of this post. This phone is out of warranty, and will be otherwise sold or given away if I can't fix the wifi(sold for more or given to someone better if fixed). Anyways, this seems to be a hardware issue because multiple roms(stock, AOSP, CM, and AOKP) all say it isn't working. The error I get isn't really an error of sorts, it just refuses to turn on. The Wifi gets stuck at "Turning Wi-Fi on..." and never turns on. The toggle tab is grey, and stuck on the off position, so I can't change that. I'd be willing to open this phone up to fix it. Any solutions at all?
Well, i don't think anyone managed to fix it..

Does anyone know how to keep this off? It keeps coming back on, I believe when i go from silent to volume again with the volume rocker. I'm not rooted and don't want to be.

Not sure being rooted or not has anything to do with it. Mine has done this once (rooted) and not sure why yet. After disabling it hasn't come back and done it yet.
When in sound settings screen does the option recheck itself when you toggle the volume rocker?
Also, how long has it been since you rebooted the device? Might try unchecking and then rebooting and see what happens. Just a thought.
Just stating the rooting thing in case someone had some funky way to fix it that required rooting. And yes the option re-checks itself every time.

Might read through this thread if you haven't seen it already: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sprint-galaxy-s-iii/204714-touch-sounds-turning-back-itself.html
So from that thread it seems there are 2 possible causes for this glitch:
-switching camera modes (unrooted)
-turning off camera snapshot noise (rooted)
I'm not rooted and have no option for turning off the snapshot noise, so i toggled my camera from vid to pic and it did immediately re-check the touch sound option but only the first time. For several tries after it didn't do it, only the first. I did change my camera mode earlier which if it is the cause of this glitch then that kind of proves it. I will be mindful of it if I change camera modes for verification, but It seems weird to me the camera is tied to the touch sound option.
I can confirm that the camera will cause this to happen when you switch between still to video mode. I know that I have seen (heard) it happen under other circumstances as well but I have not been able to pin it down.
I do not know of a solution for the unrooted phone. I am rooted so I went in and replaced the sound files with a silent file to permanently disable the sounds.

After I updated to 4.2, my notifications won't stop vibrating.
I put it on vibrate mode and went into the apps to turn off vibration, but they still vibrate.
For example I went into gmail to turn off vibrating notifications and it still happens. Also for IM+ I turned it off and it vibrates every time someone sends a chat.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks in advanced.
I am having a lot of frustration about this too. My msg apps keep vibrating and cannot be turned off.

Same thing for me. Gmail vibrates even if vibration is set to never.

Somebody thinks it is a unlucky, "feature" introduced in 4.2

Just in case you are curious, the last update to 4.2.1 did NOT solve the problem (at least on Galaxy Nexus)
A bit of a late reply, but the issue we're experiencing seems to be caused by this: https://github.com/android/platform_frameworks_base/commit/9a7debe5857ffc7c71cfc4082b1b6d72a5cf81cd
Somebody made a commit that forces the device to vibrate, even when you tell it not to, as long as you're in "vibrate" mode. If you want it completely silent, you have to manually turn off the sound it would normally generate as well. Bit of a fail, if you ask me.
Hello,
I don't know when this happened but my phone now makes anouncements verbally announcing the number of the caller and my appointment subjects when they go off. Cann you tell me how to disable the verbal part? I still want the ringer or the ding, but not something that tells others around me what I've got going on.

Do you have something enabled in accessibility doing this? Talkback?

Thanks but I can't find something enabling it that I know of.
Have you looked at all the options under accessibility?

This happens once in a while on my wife's rooted stock, more like after some months. I clear dalvik and everything sets right again.
Ask her if you could root, and that she won't notice any difference cos of that. Loading custom ROMs might not go well though (practical experience).

So we've tried rooting and unrooting, using different roms and everything. Anytime the screen is locked, the clock will lock and not track time. So he will lock it at 8:40pm and it will unlock at the same time or slightly past, but not a proper time. We've tried auto and non-auto time zones, also clock sync apps. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas or suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated. Phone is unlock running on Bell.
