Flickering with HDMI > DVI from MHL - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

For some reason, when I connect my phone to my monitor, the screen shuts off and flickers back on when the phone is doing an activity; it never stays completely on unless I'm watching a movie or have a game open. I wanted to know if there was any way to fix this. I know it is not the MHL adapter nor is it the HDMI cable because I've tested both in a TV with picture and audio. I have also tried the HDMI cable going from my video card of my computer to the HDMI to DVI adapter, and that works without a problem as well. The only thing left that I can think of is the way the phone is outputting to HDMI and the DVI side isn't "shaking hands" so well. So please, someone help me out here.

micro HDMI to DVI

Hello,
I'd like to connect my EVO to my desktop LCD monitor to watch video on bigger screen. Has anyone tried it yet? Anyone know of a micro HDMI (type D) to DVI cable or an adapter? thanks.

you might be able to make your own... just get an DVI to HDMI cable and splice on a type D end to it, not sure if it will go backwards though...
thanks, but I am interested in making sure I am going about the right way. I want make sure all the HDMI 1.4 features are supported in this solution and its fully compatible. Has anyone tried it yet?
Not really sure what HDMI 1.4 features you expect to get when your end connector is a DVI port. If you cant find a cable that goes from the Evo to DVI then you should be able to just go to HDMI then use an adapter to go to DVI. I used have my computer hooked up to my Home Theater via a DVI <> HDMI cable. Worked great, Full HD and all.
thanks. I read there a bunch of new features in hdmi 1.4 and wanted to make sure I go with an optimal option. Seems like an hdmi cable and a DVI adapter is the way to go. This way I can connect to hdtv and lcd monitor.
Yes, its true that HDMI 1.4 is great and has a lot of new things, including 3D support. But keep in mind, this is a phone. It doesn't even output 1080p video, so you'll be fine with the adapter.
Yeah, it can only to 720p output to a monitor/TV.
Something else to consider, HDMI integrates video and audio over 1 connection. If you use a DVI converter, you will lose the audio. I don't know if the EVO will allow you to output the audio out via the headphone jack at the same time or not, but I very much doubt it. So in other words, by converting the signal, you're going to lose all the audio and kinda makes it useless.
hmm.. well that sucks. any ideas on how to get around this problem?

Sure, you can get an HDMI to DVI With Audio converter..but then again, you might as well buy a new monitor with DVI inputs for the price..

Anyone get any kind of combination of MHL to DVI to work?

Im starting to think MHL to DVI just doesn't work. Cant find anyone saying "works great and I have DVI setup."
If you have MHL setup working with DVI please list the parts you are using. My monitor does not have hdmi

pretty annoyed at my findings. It does not work properly on my dell at work, but works 100% on my samsung at home. So annoyed because I bought this for use at work.
Menotek brand
If the monitor supports HDCP then it will most likely work in my experience. I have several monitors and only the ones that support HDCP seem to work.
The mighty Google found this for me:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVI-D#DVI_and_HDMI_compatibility
Have you disabled HDCP checking in developer options? I'll see if I can can scrounge a DVI adapter and look for a monitor w/o HDMI this week.
ice cream sandwich does not appear to have hdcp checking in developer options. After doing some research I found a screen shot with hdcp checking as an option as seen here: https://plus.google.com/113348736951055038973/posts/jmzdNRkNZnR
However, on the verizon google nexus phone, this option is missing.
Also my monitor is a dell p2011h and connects by DVI-D (HDCP) if that means anything to someone
HDMI to Displayport?
Before I go through another round of adapter and cable returns thought I'd ask: has anyone tried the MHL to HDMI adapter with a HDMI to Displayport cable?
Sorry for bumping this, but I couldn't find any solution.
I'm trying to connect my device to my AOC screen with an original Samsung MHL adapter and HDMI to DVI adapter and DVI cable and it doesn't work.
The HDMI to DVI adapter + DVI cable work with my laptop, and the MHL cable works with a TV with HDMI cable. But phone to pc doesn't work.
Is there any solution other than replacing the screen?

Mhl hdmi + ics lp7?

So I fancied getting MHL HDMI working and bought the cables I needed which have arrived today however i'm just getting a blank screen.
From my setup I can see that there could be a few issues but I don't know what to do to try and rule them out.
My SGSII is freshly updated with official ICS LP7
I'm using the genuine MHL HDMI adapter powered from a HTC 1A MicroUSB
I don't have a TV or monitor with HDMI so i'm using a HDMI to DVI cable.
This is connected to a 17" DELL Monitor through the DVI.
The monitor is detecting a signal and it is seeing it to be 720x480 @ 60hz however is is completely blank.
The phone says "HDMI Connected" if I connect it during video playback (there are no other notifications)
I've tested the new HDMI > DVI cable from a laptop and that works fine.
Is this software version proven to work?
Is there an issue sending it through a DVI adapter?
Pretty disappointing so far
Possibly an issue with the HDCP protection, as it is going hdmi to DVI, does your screen support HDCP?
It appears the screen is not HDCP compatible. Would that really be the issue? I thought HDCP was only used on consoles/bluray players etc to protect against copying commercial videos.
Should easily be able to answer this myself once I get home as my own monitor is compatible
Yup that was the issue thanks!
Not impressed with it though
The battery gets HAMMERED with it on and I don't know if it's an issue with my monitor since it can't do 1080i but it's stuck at 720x480 which gets the edges cropped and doesn't scale up for videos
It happily puts audio out over the 3.5mm socket though which I had heard wouldn't be possible
You're able to use yours without the mains connected? In order to make mine work I have to plug in my travel charger into the MHL adaptor and then into my phone, it both powers the HDMI connection and charges my phone
Nope that's with the power connected (they all need it)
Although unlike some other's on here I didn't have any problems running wifi at the same time so with that all running it was just too much and was draining the battery at a fast rate!
I noticed some people have to put it in airplane mode to get it actually charging..

MHL adapter to home theatre system

Hi,
I just bought the Monoprice micro usb to HDMI MHL adapter for my SGS2.
When I directly connect to my TV, it is working, but my tv sound sucks so I want to take advantage of my home theatre system instead.
I have a Sony BDV-N990W with an ARC (audio reverse channel) hdmi + 2 regular hdmi inputs. I plugged the hdmi to the mhl adapter that is connected to the Sony hdmi input. All is doing is hdmi connected/hdmi disconnected literally every seconds.
I reboot my phone, changed to 2 other hdmi cables I have, changed hdmi ports; still the same result...
Did anyone else have a similar issue? If so, any solutions or suggestions?

Hdmi to dvi audio

Hey quick question, i wanna connect my phone to a lcd computer monitor i have, I already have the samsung hdmi out cable and was thinking of getting a dvi to hdmi cable since the monitor doesnt support hdmi. My problem is that dvi doesnt support audio. so, are there any cheap dvi to hdmi cables that have an audio out? or is there some way of letting the phone output video over hdmi and sending the audio through the headphone slot like normal?
