[Q] unable to flash Note 2 from china (Help!) - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I have this phone from china, with stock chinese firmware. I've tried flashing with the stock firmware from my country (to no avail), has anybody had any luck with something like this? I am unable to flash custom roms or even the ota versions of android.

Need a little more info! What are you using...CWM...Odin.....what are you doing. Please elaborate.

HI thanks for taking an interest in my issue!
Well okay I've tried flashing ota roms with odin and odin mobile, I've tried using cwm recovery to flash a new rom, rooting works 100% but nothing else.

Do you have a GT-N7100 or GT-N7102 or maybe another model? Look on the box or in settings, about the phone.

I have a GT-N7100.

Is there anybody out there that's able to help?

Main question. Are you use your Galaxy Note II is Authentic?

Thanks for the reply.:good: Yeah 100%, it's running jellybean, I was able to do a software update with Samsung Kies and everything.

Update international firmware in chinese Galaxy note 2
The problem is chinese phone is a specific boot loader, so you can update only chinese firmware via OTA . If you want to install other firmwares then chinese follow the steps below:
First root your phone with odin. (PC software)
Then install mobile odin.apk file in the phone.
Then download the required firmware. All firmwares are available in this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696
Then extract the downloaded zip file using winzip/7zip.
The extracted file will have .tar.md5 at the end.
Copy this file inside phone sd card or external sd card.
Inside mobile odin application, click "open file".
Go to the location where the firmware file is located.
Select options "wipe data cache" + " wipe dalwik cache"
Then press update.
Now wait for the installation. The phone will reboot normally with the international firmware.
Note: Your bootloader continues to be Chinese, but the firmware will be international.
You can enjoy all google apps, facebook, etc.,
If you need to update new firmware repeat the mobile odin process after downloading the latest firmware from XDA.
All the best let me know, your feedback.

Sorry to bring back such an old post. After all this, is their any way to install custom firmware with CWM such as Wanamlite or Cyanmod? Searched and can't find answer. People say CWM will modify the bootloader if you use any custom rom.
Thanks

Separate an One Package ROM

Hi
Please I'd like to know if it's possible to create a Complete ROM (3 files - Modem, PDA and CSC) from an One Package ROM (only one .TAR file).
And is that really useful? After this process, can we only flash the CSC file with Odin (Desktop)?
Thanks for your help. (always appreciated help)
Yes you can extract single ROM file and later create tar file for each component
Alternatively you can use mobile odin to flash indivudual components.
Thanks dr.ketan.
Extracting a tar file we obtain several img files (system.img, hidden.img, boot.img, recovery.img...) (from my own experience with an official rom of a French telephone company).
How could I know which img files is for the Odin's fields PDA, Phone, CSC...?
Alternatively you can use mobile odin to flash indivudual components.

Atm I don't have Mobile Odin. Do u mean that we can flash .img file thanks to this app?
And do u know if this kind of Full Package flash is better than a One Package one? The result could be different?
Thanks again for your explanation.
System. Is PDA, modem is phone, boot is kernel, recovery is recovery this is different component of ROM file
Single file flashing flash all required component on one go, while individual useful when you want to flash only single component.
PC odin can flash tar file but not. img file, you have to convert it to tar
While mobile odin can flash tar as well img file too.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
All what I need to understand
Thanks again.
Ready to flash firmware, just one last thing
Hello, I have a gt-n7100 which I bought in china and I am looking in to flashing the firmware into the UK version as this chinese version has bloatware and i cant access google play or install many apps even if i get them from other markets. The guys here are all a great help but im stuck on one bit of info.
As I have read the threads, I see that the chinese note 2 cannot be flashed with other firmware using Odin PC, because it has a different bootloader ..(is my understanding correct?) So the solution would be to root it and use Odin Mobile instead. But i cant get mobile odin pro because i can never access the google play because it is blocked by this firmware. (ZCALJ6) So I have to use mobile odin LITE, which the tutorial says I have to manually download and install seperate files such as flash kernels. Thats fine, I located the files needed but i dont know when to install it and run it ? Before I install odin or after? or after I have flashed the new firmware or before? And when I install it what should i do next?....because i couldnt find where it says anything about that process, just goes on to explain that mobile odin PRO does it all for you automatically and picks it up from there.
Seriously in need of help, this chinese firmware does to note 2 what kryptonite does to superman.

[Guide] Install New Modem (Baseband) on Note 8.0 GT-N5100, GT-N5110, GT-N5120.

Installing a new modem for you Note 8.0
The below guide assumes you have:
1. Rooted your device. If you don't know what this is, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389973
2. Have a custom Recovery installed (not stock recovery). An example of a recovery program for the Note 8.0 is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2287802
3. BACKED UP YOUR ORIGINAL ROM (including the EFS folder) VIA NANDROID BACKUP. Do not skip this step. If you do not know what a "Nandroid" is, you should not go any further. Read here if you are clueless: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389973
The process of flashing a modem (baseband) over another modem is as follows:
1. Extract a modem.bin file from a stock ROM of choice. You can find your countries "Modem" file in the stock Samsung ROMs by simply downloading a stock ROM from SamMobile (http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/) for your country/carrier, and then use a zip program (like 7Zip) to explore the ROM contents, and find the "modem.bin" file from that. Make a copy, and place onto your Note 8 (internal or external SD card).
Alternatively, you can access Civato's modem collection by reading the post below this one by Civato (Thanks Civ).
2. Make sure you purchase the "Mobile Odin" app from Play store.
3. In Mobile Odin, find the "Modem" menu, select it, then navigate to the file called "modem.bin" that you got from the Stock Samsung ROM for your region.
4. After selecting, it will return you to the main Mobile Odin menu. Select "Flash Firmware" menu item.
5. Check the box that has "Wipe Davlik cache" so it is on.
6. Mobile Odin will now flash the modem.bin file.
7. If you check your Settings-->About device you will find that your baseband has not updated (well it didn't for me).
8. Press and hold the power button on the Note 8, and the recovery menu should come up (if you are using Philz or TWRP recovery). Select "Reboot". Then a 4-way reboot option menu comes up. Select "Reboot into recovery".
9. Device will then shutdown and go into recovery. As it does so, it actually flashes the modem file at this point.
10. Restart will occur automatically, and android files will be updated.
11. After it boots, a check of the settings will reveal the baseband has been updated.
12. Done.
Thanks to cherryanne who pointed out the direction.

Hey Civ
I wanted to stay on your ROM, but I lost WiFi scanning ability to detect one network here. On stock, I can find both the access point & the router. On FlexBeam, I lose the router in the scan. So I am stuck on connecting to only one access point. I thus went back to stock ROM
When you have the aroma settings, we have to select a region. Unfortunately U.K. is the only one I can select, and I wonder if this cuts out the Australian modem (if modem has any impact on WiFi). All I know is that on Stock, I can connect to the router and on Flex I cannot.
I really appreciate your work on this, and am NOT complaining. Just saying why I reverted back to stock on what is otherwise a solid ROM experience.

I can take a look into the wifi configs but it surely doesn't got anything to do with modem.
Edit:
No difference between wifi config with stock and flex-beam
Here is the CSC for the autralia rom (will included in new update of flexbeam)
flash it with recovery. Hope this will help. Remember this is a beta test csc.

Hi Civ. Not much luck unfortunately with the flash of the Australian CSC file (it did flash, I could select it, but WiFi still not performing as well as stock). WiFi can only find one of the routers and not the other as it can under Stock Rom. Very frustrating as it doesn't make any sense (especially as I loaded your rom after the stock Rom, so it should have the right Modem).
Don't know what else I can do. I have tried your latest ROM 3.6.2 with the above, and no luck. Anything I may have missed?

Please Help to change my Tab S8.4 from SG to USA version

Bought the tab S 8.4 WIFI only in Singapore only to realise that papergarden is not even inside in the first place. Tried installing it manually but stil stuck at some weird error while it's checking for newer version of the viewer or something.
Is there any way i could replace the firmware to the one in US version? as i believe they are the same hardware and all.
If someone expert could kindly guide me through the steps appreciate it alot!

Yes. EMSPilot's rom is a US version. You can just flash it.
You will need to first root using cf-auto root, then install a custom recovery like TWRP to flash this rom. It will trip your knox counter and void your warranty.
Alternatively, if you don't want to void your warranty and want a stock US rom, got to sammobile.com and download the appropriate rom which you will flash with Odin.

thx dl12345. I tried to search EMSPilot's rom thread, but not sure if i am able to make sure that papergarden apps is inside that ROM?
Here is an overview of how to use odin which is what you need to flash official firmware.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...ide-samsung-how-flash-stock-rom-via-odin.html
You'll need to download the rom you wish to flash and the Odin program.
Most of these samsung devices all follow the same formula so that's a plus.
Personally I've flashed from US based roms to various countries without issues, except Chinas version, which wouldn't install.
If you need more info then please feel free to search it out and good luck.

I had a look and it doesn't seem to be there. But that isn't a problem because you can always pull it out of the stock firmware and since EMSPilot's ROM is a rooted one, you can install it to /system/priv-app fairly easily using something like Total Commander or any other root file manager or even TWRP file manager for that matter.
The APKs are called SamsungMagazine.apk and SamsungMagazineWidget.apk. I have made de-odexed and zipaligned versions of these APKs so I can let you have them if you need.
Alternatively, flash the stock (which won't nuke your warranty). I cannot find a USA version on sammobile, but I can confirm that the generic UK version has the Samsung magazine APKs on it

Ok, so a few clarifications: yes, EMSPilot's ROM does seem to have Papergarde. However, after I checked, I note that the Samsung appstore has a copy you can just download and install. You should try this method as it's the simplest solution.
problem is i couldnt find any papergarden apps in the Samsung App store.

Ok, then it is deliberately region filtered. I saw another comment on a different site that indicated a similar thing. In which case trying to install the APKs on your Singapore device probably would run into issues with the content not being available.
I recommend flashing the stock firmware. Get the UK version here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=32716. Unzip it. Download the cf-auto root tool for the SM-T700. here: http://download.chainfire.eu/468/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-klimtwifi-klimtwifixx-smt700.zip. You don't need to root if you install the stock firmware, however the cf-auto root package contains the latest Odin utility. If you don't root you will not trigger the knox flag and your warrant will remain intact.
Unzip the cf-auto root file and copy the unzipped tar.md5 firmware file from above into the same folder.
Open Odin
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin showing the com port is connected
Click PDA button in Odin and choose the .tar.md5 firmware file you unzipped. It will verify the md5 signature.
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked (which it should not be with the Odin from cf-autoroot). Don't touch anything else.
Click the start button
It will take a few minutes and you will then be on generic UK firmware with Papergarden installed. At this point, if you decide you want to root, then also flash the firmware image file that came with the cf-autoroot package in exactly the same way (click PDA, choose the file, click start). This will root your device but also trigger the Knox flag and void your warranty.
This is about as easy as it can get. I've given you the links to the correct firmware and the flash utility as well as explicit instructions on how to flash the firmware.

I need your all help. dead s9 / bricked

So i have a samsung s9 SM-G960F/DS version. i had have run TWRP on it and magisk + exposed and it worked fine. i had to uninstall exposed to log into some apps and then i would reinstall it agian. but when i ran the exposed unintaller the phone would not boot. i tryed diffrent things and it would not boot unless it had the exposed intalled on it. i did a complete wipe of the phone with TWRP and now i canĀ“t install stock rom. i downloaded the latest stock ROM for my model and the latest odin that can handle the lz4 compression. bur when i but in BL AP CP CSC it just get stuck on system.img all the time. i there is simply nothing i have not tryed. and nothing works for me. The only think working is if i flash the TWRP then i can boot into recovery TWRP. thats it. i am at a point where i will pay anyone who can help me figure this out cause i almost lost all hope for this to work agian. So i really really hope someone here have an ide to what could work for me. every tip and trick i will test and if someone offer help via discord or somthing i would also be glad to hear from you.
Hi
Extract and flash bootload.img or hidden.img file from the main stock rom.
I'll check the actual file name for you when I get home later. Did experience that problem sometime back on my s6 edge.
Usually there is a small error message on the screen of the s9 if odin fails or stalls. It's small blue text, I have a feeling it's either 'magic string error' or 'SYSTEM not [Sec]' or close to it. I find this happens when flashing the wrong firmware for that model. Example, flashing G960N firmware for a G960F.
I just did a reflash and here are my exact steps for my G960F.
1. Download Odin 3.13.1
2. Make sure Samsung Drivers are installed
3. Grab the latest firmware for your device, my device is a G960F so I just picked the latest BRJ3 firmware with November patch from Updato. Just get the firmware for your exact model.
4. Extract the files from the ZIP file
5. Add all the correct BL, AP, CP and CSC files to odin.
6. Select nand erase
7. Boot S9 into download mode
8. Flash to phone.
Don't try to flash TWRP before installing the full firmwares and until the phone is setup.
If all fails, and because you seem to be able to install TWRP, then you can download TGP Kernel ROM and flash that. It is based on stock G960F firmware, has a nice aroma installer for selecting various things and tweaks. It also provides a clean install of Magisk if that's something you like.
Also be sure to flash no-DM Verify.
Make sure you're not trying to downgrade the bootloader, I'm sick of writing out the same guide each time and I just did it earlier today so shouldn't be hard to find

You should look for samfirm or frija tool . Those would help you get latest firmware for your phone. Download it , flash it with odin and everything should be fine. Just remember that its possible that as you would be on latest firmware, you might not be able to downgrade in future.

S9 soft updates problem

Hi
I've problem with my sm-g960f. I live in UK, but my phone was bought in Switzerland and because of that I am not receiving any system updates. Samsung support told me to go to Switzerland to check if I'll receive update there, but it is not an option. I've got stuck at android 8.0. Is there any chance that I update it manually to newest one? If it is, please help me with it. Thanks!
I've never did anything with phones soft before, sorry if it is stupid question.
When I was like you I did a lot of research for what i needed to flash the software i wanted and what to do if any thing goes wrong.
First you need to unlock your bootloader and this can take 7 days to confirm and also wipes your data. Once unlocked you need to flash twrp through Odin on your pc also you will need a file to flash to stop a boot loop after flashing twrp. Then you need to download the latest firmware from Sam mobile, this can take hours on the free account. Then use Odin again to flash the firmware android 10. Then you will be updated

You don't need to flash TWRP, for this to work. You can do it normally using stock recovery.
Then you need to download the latest firmware from Sam mobile, this can take hours on the free account. Then use Odin again to flash the firmware android 10. Then you will be updated

Start from this step. I highly recommend to download original firmware using the Frija tool (search here in XDA) because there you don't have any limiting download speed. Once downloaded, you can now just go to stock recovery, wipe data, cache and system, and reboot to download mode and flash the downloaded firmware from frija tool.
