Horizontal Home Screen? - HTC One X

So, I've see this images of horizontal display of the home screen and I was wondering HOW?
I've gone through setting and such but I didn't see anything that I think would do that.

There are some apps on market that force sense to rotate, but now i dont know the name. Oh and it constantly run in the background.
You dont need rooted phone.

What rom are you on ? The viper x has it embedded in the tweaks !

i tried ultimate rotation control on the play store, worked well but experienced resolution problems with some games like total war shoggun.

Stop tilt?

I've tried Google without any luck..so I'm guessing this is a no..but I'm trying to find an app that disables tilt in certain situations only. I know I can disable tilt thru the settings..but that disables tilt EVERYWHERE. I'm just looking to disable tilt on my homescreen..while still being able to tilt while browsing Interwebz and whatnot. Seems like it should be an easy enough function..considering BB's have an app for it. Anyone have any suggestions?

Ok 1 - Android is not BlackBerry. Not even on the same level as one another, so just get that out of your head.
Second off, wtf do you mean on your homescreen? Sense doesn't turn landscape unless you changed the Skin to one built with landscape. Just switch it to the stock HTC skin, problem solved, it never goes landscape unless you open the keyboard.
If you're not using Sense (CM 6.1 or something) check the settings, as it usually has a way to disable homescreen rotation in their own personal settings.
Try CM6. It has the option for a custom power control widget to be embedded into the statusbar. You can put a toggle for rotation too. You loose the sense home and widgets though, but imo stock > sense. Or you could try quickdesk and put a rotation toggle widget on it.

Orly? Android isn't Blackberry? Good to know.
So lets begin...in order to "hide" all the bunk apps because I wasn't rooted, flashed, s-offed etc yet (all the things necessary to remove said apps) I had to download Launcher Pro (which was highly recommended). As soon as this was done..then yes..I was no longer able to use stock Sense. So now..my homescreen always tilts on me..which bugs the **** outta me. Could I just go back to stock Sense? Sure I could..but I'd rather have what should be a basic app to allow me to pick and choose where and when I'd like my screen to tilt. And I've grown to like how my homescreen looks over the stock look. Yes..I can disable autotilt in the settings..but then I can't even tilt the screen into landscape for the browser. So maybe I'm missing something here that someone else can point out..

I am on a stock ROM myself still, but I know that Cyanogen has a lot of customisation options. I wonder if it's worth asking in the CM thread over on the G2 side (because the DZ one is dead) out whether that has options that might help you ?
You want to disable "rotation" all over your phone AND to be able to use the browser in Landscape mode.
If that is the only thing you want, you can set your browser to "landscape mode only"
Now if you have a longer list of requirements on what apps get permisions to rotate the screen etc, I think you may bigger problems

there was nothing offensive or said with an attitude in this post. it was only til you noobs came on here with misplaced android pride. he didnt compare berrys to droids. he simply said they have an app for it.
this is a great question. the tilt function seems almost too sensitive. it would be great to maybe tweak it somehow to make it so you really have to hold the phone sideways....instead of slightly tilt the phone. an app to block it in certain situations is good but i feel that id have to micro manage too much to specify every single situaiton id want tilt or not.
for the record... i'm am a die hard android user and his post did not push my buttons at all. this post is very useful.
ADW launcher has an option in system preferences for home screen orientation.
Just change it from auto to portrait, that's what I did.

Wow no one answered your question. Well here it is, when you are on the home screen hit the Menu - Behavior Settings and uncheck Enable Auto-Rotation.
That will disable auto rotation on the home screen. Now go into Settings - Display and make sure Auto-rotate screen is checked. This way you will be able to but your screen into landscape mode when surfing the web or using apps that auto rotate. Now if you want to be able to choose specific apps, that I have no knowledge of doing. Hope this helps.

Tasker (on the Market) can be set up to enable/disable auto-rotation on many different triggers, like when a certain app is launched. Plus it can do a lot more that that! Check it out I think it's well worth the money.

Awesome! This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks to you sir. And btw..It wasn't as simple as just setting my browser settings to landscape because I also like to view texts and im's in landscape mode. It never even occurred to me to check the Launcher Pro settings..so thanks again for that

Excellent.
Glad I could help. I know I was having the same issue at one point in time and it was very annoying. I didn't want to give up on Launcher Pro because the widgets are awesome and it gave me "sense" on my stock android! If you haven't played with Launcher Pro Plus, you should give it a whirl. The widgets that are unlocked with it are definitely top notch.

This is the correct answer if using Launcher Pro, I'd assume it would be pretty similar for adw launcher too.

The crazy thing is I actually NEVER played with ADW, yet I keep hearing how really good it is. So good in fact, that some custom ROMS have it built in. Would you recommend it?

Not only those but what about the Friendstream widget? It is damn near an exact replica of the sense widget. I also like how when you use the picture frame widget, you can resize it. That feature is only available on LPP not LP.

Every time I try ADW I am always disappointed with the jerkiness/lack of smooth scrolling. I try it once every few months but never stuck with it.
Definitely Launcher Pro for me, smooth, customisable, practical,... who could ask for more?

[Q] homepage and rotation question

The defy has 6. And a home page. Im not using two of them how do i remove them? Tmobile was no help. 2nd question is there something that can rotate my screen upside down. ? Thanks for reading
I'm not sure whether you can do it with the stock launcher (though you should be able to) but I know with LauncherPro you can choose the number of homescreens by pressing Menu, then Preferences > Homescreen Settings.
thanks
I gave it a shot it works well. However i just don't like the home icons. I like the ones that came with it. (3) call. The circle thing and contacts is there any way to get them with launcher pro?
Well, you can change the default icons long-pressing on them. Choose the default ones or find some nice icon online and change it
Thanks
i got it looking good.! i would take a screen shot but i havent Rotted. waiting for 2.2. got everything but is any one having issues with the "Messaging App" the one that shows you email and text and gives you a preview. i cant get it to work says problem loading widget? any one know the deal.......press and hold on home screen, widgets, messages then select all messages and click done. Hi, I am using 2.2 and sometimes my device hangs and reboots itself. When i was in landscape befor then the homescreen is in landscape after auto- reboot. So technically landscape is possible, but how to switch its orientation by yourself is a other question.
Greetings
To make it go to landscape once ur in launcherpro hit the 4 square button then behavior then check auto rotate. U should b good.

No ideas on the weather and utube widgets any one. I checked task killer but there are no apps on" auto close" and preview message box still not workin... if i pay im scares it still wont work. Has any one paid for this app?

[Q] Is it possible to rotate things like the home screens and contacts?

Hi all,
Is it possible to get the Home page screens to rotate and things like the diallers etc? Although auto rotate is on, lot of things like this don't rotate. I'm using a pretty much stock Orange ROM.
I know on my old windows HTC Touch Diamond phone there was an additional app that allowed me to override these home screen settings, thus forcing most screens to rotate.
This is very useful when you use the phone as a sat nav device that is mounted in landscape. Of course, when you bring up the contact list to navigate to, or the phone rings, everything goes to the wrong - well back to normal - but difficult to see unless you tilt your head which is not a good idea when driving!
Many thanks for any help
AFAIK, you have to replace the Rosie Launcher apk, and this is only available if you are using a custom HD/Z port ROM.
Ahh, bugger. If there was an Orange ROM out there I would do this, but with no way back to a stock image on a relatively new works phone, I simply can't justify it yet. What a shame this can't be added to a normal ROM.
There is another way! If you are not determined to stick with sense, use Launcher Pro. See what you think. No rooting or flashing required. Just download from marketplace.
It has the option to rotate the home screens. Personally I also think it is also smoother and has more customizing options than sense.

Cheers for that. Now we open a full Pandora's box. I didn't realise quite how the widgets are integrated with the launcher. I loose many of the sense widgets that i use to frequently such as currently appointment due, coming agenda, fully calendar email notification (not gmail but exchange, really miss this one), power bar etc.
I assume a lot of these could be added a separate downloads. I juts now have to start figureing out what they would be.
Lol. Sorry, should have made that clearer. There are plenty of choices for replacing the HTC widgets. The paid version of launcher pro has a tidy calendar, but if you are looking for free alternatives, I've found that the 'post your screen shots' thread in the 'themes and apps' section is a good way of seeing what other people are using...

Can't scroll through "share" options.

I'm running cyanogen nightlies on a US G2 and if I click share on a gallery image I can't scroll up to applications that are off the screen in either landscape or portrait mode? In order to share via sms I compose a text first and attach. Thoughts? I didn't have this issue on stock or miui?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
all i can figure is u must have a bunch of apps installed capable of the share option, because i just counted 11 on mine when i pressed share and they all fit with about 1/4" free room on top and bottom. that's the only thing i can think of at the moment.
You must have a **** ton of sharing options to have it block up in portrait. I have 12 right now and there's room for 1 more.
I do have this issue and its annoying in landscape mode, but I've never thought about it in portrait.
Yep. I guess thirteen is the max. Some I would never use nor see how I could. Ipcamviewer is an app to view traffic cams. Share a photo from gallery to it?
But, on stock and miui the trackpad allows you to scroll. Im gonna delete some apps.

The home screen is not designed to rotate, this is why it doesn't.
As for the widget, I guess LG decided not to use it on the G3 (it is not a G2 so you should stop comparing it to it).

Thanks Lenny. When i googled for Home UI Landscape pictures existed of the home screen in that orientation, hence my question. Someone has possibly done it. Perhaps through a 3rd party app and as a mislead. all good.
Regarding comparing it to an LG G2; considering i have them both on me and one is a predecessor to the other including design element uplifts, I and many will likely compare them. But thanks for noting it.
cheers

Hmm I know I saw pics of LG's new UI somewhere and it did rotate the home screen to landscape like skinless android does. I was happy that it did - I've always mostly used my phones in landscape. I'll try to dig up the site I found that one, maybe it was a mod and i didn't notice.
