[Q] Estimated time to install ROM? [Fixed] - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I downloaded the Omega 7.3 ROM and I'm installing it right now, but it appears to be stuck on installing. It says "Installing..." and under it is a line of pluses (+++++++++++++++++) and it's been like this for quite a while now. None of the video guides I watched had this issue.
Does it usually take a long time to install a ROM for the first time or is something wrong?
EDIT: Restarted the installation and it worked this time.

[Q] hensemod problem

Hello,
I've installed Hensemod a few times now, without any problems the first time I boot the phone.
Only after that, when restarting or turning the phone on again, it takes very long to start, like it's installing again and then the internal memory is suddenly full, even though I had about 100mb when turning the phone off. Also, all apps I installed are gone. In the applications list (in settings) they seem to still be there, but they're all 0kb and there's no shortcuts to them in the programs overview... Like I said, I've installed the Hensemod a few times now, and every time this happens.
Anyone knows how to solve this? I really like this rom, I can finally install and update all apps I want without the phone becoming unusable because of full internal memory! Thanks!
Carolien
I used HenseModv3 is a nice ROM, u must have to wipe all the data, cache and dalvick cache in the CWM recovery section, then install the HenseMod ROM.
If any other problem, plz share.
I followed all the steps stated in the development forum post, it works fine, just cant restart the phone because it will stop working...
My phone just continuesly restart...
Plug off ur battery, then go to CWM recovery, try to intall any other/different ROM.
I install each ROM by above method,i didn't use fastboot uncheck option.
Never mind I was just being stupid... I wiped the cache partition and not the dalvik cache. Sorry about that! Let's see if it will work now. Installing rom at the moment.
And again... first boot worked fine, after that I'm stuck in a bootloop now... Just like couldzxz. Too bad! I'll have to try yet another mod. Hope the next update of hensemod will solve this!
yes, u can try different custom ROM if any problems with a particular ROM
wait for next updates from Henry_01
I got stuck in bootloop too. I reqlly like the rom but well.. :/

Okay, i've seen your problems.
I've tested latest build, but didnt rebooted it.
I suggest you all use a previous version (3).
Problem can be also kernel related.
I don't have time now (exams), I will make a proper working build after some weeks.
Don't hesitate to post here further, I want to know if it is ROM or phone related.
BIG EDIT: i will include link for version 3.
Thanks to djpc for a new hack which will solve reboot/kernel/overclock problems.
Expect a build and a proper test on friday or saterday.
I will change links now so that you will get a good version lol.
Somehow, the fifth time in installed the latest Hensemod rom, it worked like a charm. I can reboot, have installed and updated all apps I wanted and still got like 90mb remaining. Fantastic! Finally after 6 months I have the phone I wanted.
First and second install I couldn't reboot
Third install I got stuck in a bootloop
Fourth install gapps crashed every 2 seconds (due to calendar and contacts synchronization)
Fifth install = perfect!
I don't know how it happened, I just kept on installing this one so I could copy another rom on the sd card since I don't have an adapter or card reader for it.
Thanks!

[Q] Correct versions for firmware update

I've been having a few fun and games updating the firmware on my phone. Up until now, the problems have been between keyboard and chair, due to lack of patience (like not reading the instruction /fully/ before starting...) , but were fixed with lots of googling, espcially from these fourms and reading the original Howtos properly...
But, now I seem to be stuck. I have the phone working upto the point where the Cyanogenmod setup wizard kicks in. It then stops, asks for the phones PIN number, then gives the message: "Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has stoped." Pressing OK, just gets the message back, and turning the phone off then on again doesn't help either. Redoing the whole re-install new firmware thingy does help. Sometime the Setup Wizard gets as far as showind the progress of updating the 71 apps, sometimes it doesn't.
I made a couple fo searches, and it seems that it might depend on what version firmware you need, or something - the dates of the posts I read went back to early 2012 and such like, and were for different phones, so they always mentioned different version of firmware.
Can someone help by saying if it looks like I'm using the correct packages or not?
Here is what I am using:
ClockworkMod: px-cwm-v2.zip
Phone firmware: cm-10.1-20130111-UNOFFICIAL-gio.zip
Google Apps: gapps.ics.20120703-2-aroma.zip

Why dont you just try installing a newer version than the one from january 11th ?
I would but... I'm not sure what is the latest version. Searching for it turns up different versions and what not. But I now think the problem is not the files I'm using, but probably the method.
For example,I was following a howto on mobotechie "how-to-update-samsung-galaxy-gio-s5660-to-android-4-2-jelly-bean-ultimate-guide".
I read through it again, and made sure I had the files it says to have:
cm-10.1-20121226-UNOFFICIAL-gio.zip
gapps-gb-20110114-signed.zip
But this time, when installing the Google apps, installed of the Google apps setup wizard, I just a few lines on the phone's CLI:
ending with Installation complete!
Then, when I reboot the phone, the welcome screen is about a quarter the normal size and there is two of them side-by-side. The Cyanogenmod setup wizard runs for a while before stopping and dropping to the SIM-card PIN number request. now, as well as "Setup Wozard has stoped." I also get "Unfortunately, Google Services Framework has stopped." There is a bar across the top of the phone's screen saying "Setup wizard."
I'm sure there is something more basic I'm doing wrong.

I'm not sure if it's a typo, but you said you used the gapps for ics (it had ics in its filename). You then said that the tutorial says to use gapps for gb (it has gb in its filename). Are you using the right GAPPs for CM10.1. Remember - CM10.1 is based off of Jellybean so maybe try using a Jellybean GAPPS file. And another thing - did you format your phone before flashing CM10.1 originally? Did you reboot before flashing GAPPS? Simple things like these could cause catastrophic problems.

I think you hit the nail on the head! Last night, after reading the previous reply, I had a look around for the lastest versions of the packages. I picked the latest ROM package I found, which /didn't/ have EXPERIMENTAL or NIGHTLY in the filename. For the Google Apps, I found the latest one which was OK for 4.2.1: Later ones said they only worked with 4.2.2. The file I chose had -jb- in the filename. I saw it was different, as the one quoted in the HOWTO had -gb-. I never gave it thought that -jb- meant Jelly Bean!
I did a clean install, making sure I followed the HOWTO step-by-step. This time it worked, and I now have a happy shiney phone
Codename13 - Although I have only just read your post, it clears things up as to why it wasn't working. I had not realised there was different versions of ROM - I thought all Android software was "Jelly Bean" and never paid proper attention to the full filename. So, big thanks for the eductation.
I am suprised that the files quoted in the HOWTO did not work, because the author gives the exact filename, so I assumed it was tried and tested.
For the record, I am using:
cm-10.1-20130111-UNOFFICIAL-gio.zip
gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip
So, thanks Codename13 and lukas12153, I'm now a little wiser and have a working phone.

[Q] Possible gapps issue on PA3.1x (8th of March 2013)

Hi,
First, thank you very much for your work on this. It is leaps and bounds above the performance of the stock rom, with a very nice extra layer of options and functionalities.
I do have a couple of questions:
1) Installing gapps* takes a long, long time. On my phone it took 1h30m for the initial install. Is this expected?
2) When I rebooted my phone after gapps were installed it took a very long time to boot up. (don't know precisely how long, it ran out of battery halfway the second reboor yesterday!) This, as well as point 1 above makes me think that perhaps I should I reflash?
Many thanks!!!
Sidenote: To anyone installing this ROM, there is no progress bar. I found that flashing this ROM also took a while, although nowhere near over one hour!
* I've used all the files in the first post on the rom's thread - Rom, Kernel & 20130301-signed gapps . As for unlocking it, I used the All in one tool kit.

Trouble when attempting to flash back to stock

Hello everyone, long time lurker here.
I feel embarrassed even posting this thread in the first place but I'm currently flat out stumped. Over a year ago I flashed CM10 to my SGH-I747 using CWM (the whole process was done in a pretty outdated way, everything was basically manual) and a few months ago when I discovered cwm rom manager I installed cm11. I only ever used stable releases, never even thought about using a nightly.
Long story short after encountering the no service error I decided to try a nightly build for the first time ever. I had no problems after I installed it, functionality was just fine, but still the fact that my phone wouldn't save an APN was unresolved.
Today I decided that flashing back to stock and then reinstall CM using the app in the play store. After browsing this forum and youtube I foolishly used odin mobile to flash what I beleive is a stock version of android for my device. I got a normal starting animation (that annoying AT&T tun-tun-tun-tun with the words re-think possible show up like before) but it gets to this point where all I see is the word SAMSUNG in all white on my screen (it kinda has this glowing effect).
That's it.
First time I waited 30 mins and then pulled the battery. Restarted it twice more after waiting for the same amount of time.
The MD5 file I used came from file dropper. The URL after the dot com is /i747ucalemi747attalematt (sorry for posting this in a confusing way, I can't post links yet because I'm a noob).
Now when I boot my phone into recovery mode It says -
Android system recovery <3e>
Volume up/down to move highlight;
power button to select.
etc... the rest of the reboot/apply/wipe options
So... now what? Sorry for the giant explanation I just don't know what next step I should take. I wanna go back to stock, restore my data functionality, and properly set up CM using a rom manager. Thanks for taking the time to read this, I really appreciate any help you guys can offer.
P.S. I have the modem .zip for my carrier and I'm fine with using mobile Odin to install if I can just get normal functionality in my phone back.
What bootloader is on your phone? Did you try doing a factory reset from recovery mode?

that's the stock recovery. try to wipe data/factory reset.

some kind of hanging problem on my KF 1st, or?

I am having a problem with my rooted Kindle Fire 1st generation and I need help.
In 2012 I rooted and flashed my Kindle Fire with jandycane_otter-v1.8.0_0xD34D. Recently I started to get problems, like when starting apps such as Blue Reader/Kindle Reader the screen would go black and it would take a lot of power button pushing or holding pressed for a while before the screen would return and the App would be loaded – once loaded it would be okay. This wasn't always, just now and again – but it was very irritating.
So I decided to Flash a new ROM. First I had a bit of difficulty finding which ROM was suited – and a links to a lot of the ROMs ( over goo.im) were no longer working.
In the end I choose hellcat-20140119-otter = with = gapps-kk-20131111-artcompatible.
First I updated TWRP to v2.8.5.0. Did a Factory Wipe and Dalvik cache / Data / Cache / System Wipe. Then I flashed Hellcat + gapps. There was no trouble in this process (that I could tell) and was given as successful. Rebooted – did the WLAN connection=Google account=Region/time and was into Hellkat no problem. Worked okay.
The problem starts when I shut the kindle down and restart it (later or whenever). Get the usual boot (select) screen, but the KF screen seems to take a long while before finally getting to the HellKat screen – but there it seems to hang. I can shut power down and retry and sometimes it loads okay after this. Other times it just hangs again. (or needs far longer time to load than I allow it??? - but give it for my feeling a long time, but?)
Once I Wiped everything again and Flashed both zips again = but same result
So what now? = I don’t know, I’m stuck too!
It seems to me (but? I am a novice) like some kind of loading problem - but I don't know what?
UPDATE: Used restore and gone back to old ROM - have downloaded AmazonHfk2.8-20131220-Stable-otter.zip + gapps for this - will give this a try?
UPDATE2: AmazonHfk2.8-20131220-Stable-otter.zip + gapps = same = installs = works (but does not seem to work as good as hellcat-20140119-otter) = re-start = hangs (seems worse also)
= Wiped = restored old ROM
really stuck on this problem?
Update 21/08/2015:
So finally got KF working again using InFriction ROM – nice clean Rom - not too much Bloatware - and very clear instructions – including which TWRP to use (which might have been the problem with other ROM’s?) so it is with many and deepest thanks to androvista – GREAT STUFF THANKS!
Although there are some bugs (like apps that stop working, etc) I am happy to have my KF working again. Don't know if there are any other better functioning ROMS at this time - seems like most developers have now given up on KF 1st Gen and moved on to other stuff - and I wanted something easy to install as I am not that great at this kind of thing.
Glad you've seemed to work it out!
I had HellKat for a bit, too, and it seemed a bit slow to start. About how long did it 'hang' on the screen? It's possible that it was just taking a bit to load.
Also, did you wipe everything like you were supposed to? That may have caused issues.
-Kam
hi Kam, No longer have HellKat - Flashed InFriction ROM - nice/clean/faster/better , thanks
I read that, yeah, I was just curious. I was hoping to be able to help out with the previous problem in case it happened with any other roms.
But you're welcome anytime ^^
