Alarms and ringtones changing - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Ok, I've noticed this several times and its extremely annoying.
In messaging every now and then it drops my selected ringtone that I made. And most importantly I use alarm clock extreme. I've have a selected track to play as the alarm and it ALWAYS goes to silent... It's not waking me up which is gonna get me into trouble. Why is it doing this? I've never had this problem before on my s1 epic 4g.
I think it has to do with the sd card. I've noticed occasionally it'll say sd suddenly removed but it's not. Does the phone derp out with the sd when it tries to sleep? Why? This has never been a problem for me before.

I should note, on stock with root, if I leave the normal alarm clock "clock"app installed, that took over and started play an alarm ringtone from the phone selection.

I'm just recently started having this same problem with Alarm Extreme as well as my Music playlists disappearing. I also have a custom alarm for Calengoo events so that disappears, too. It's definitely something to do with the SD card. I think for the time being I'm going to move the songs I use for Alarm Extreme, as well as my custom alarms/ringtones to internal memory. I just deal with the Music playlist issues.
I'm getting tired of waking up to birds chirping instead of my music, because birds chirping just ain't gonna wake me up. I'll let you know if I figure anything out.
FYI, I'm using a SanDisk 32GB Class 10 SD card -- brand new, bought specifically for this phone rather than using the old abused one in my EVO 4G.

I also had the same problem with sounds on my sdcard. Moving them to the internal card solved it for me too.

The problem for me turned out to be the SD card. The SanDisk 32GB UHS Class 10 (red/grey) card is about half the thickness of any other SD card I own. What's happening is the pin connection in the SD card slot loses partial contact (same thing happens with this card in my wife's Galaxy S3), the Note 2 thinks the card has been removed, so it resets all the custom alarms, music, and ringtones back to defaults. I also lose all the playlists in the stock Music app.
Anyway, I moved all my music to internal memory, but I also switched the SanDisk card out for a Patriot 32GB Class 4 card that I had in my Acer A500 tablet. The A500's SD slot seems to be a better design and it doesn't seem to have a problem with the thinner SanDisk card. Meanwhile, my Note 2 seems very happy with the thicker Patriot brand card.
Not sure what other brands have thinner cards now, but I know that SanDisk does, but Patriot and Kingston seem to be the standard thickness.

Problems with SD card files (pictures and Album)

Hi:
I just got my Tilt2 today. When I try to open album, it takes a LONG time to load pictures from SD card(storage card/DCIM/. By a long time I am talking like 5-10 minutes. During this process the device becomes basically unusably slow or simply freezes. It is also very slow any other time I try to access SD card files (through file explorer or Resco explorer takes about 1-2 minutes to open SD card), and then is very slow and unresponsive even to scroll the list.
I have tried hard reset, soft reset etc.
Any idea what could cause this? Or, is my device defective?
Thanks!
PS: The problem seems the worst after soft reset. Once it manages to load all pics (about 30 total), it seems more responsive on subsequent loads.
similar experience here with photos
Sorry i don't have anything to offer other than to say that i am seeing similar problems with htc album. Not 5-10 minutes but opening the album takes literally 2 or 3 minutes for the phone to become responsive again.
I experience slow downs just accessing the card or playing music from the card though. In any case, I ordered a new class 6 memory card today to see if it would help (current card is 4gb class 2).

My card is also a class 2, only it's 8gb. I wonder if that's the problem. I never had any problems at all on my Fuze with the same card though, so who knows.
I am going to the store tomorrow to see if they have any Tilt 2s available to check if mine is the problem. I will repport my findings to you. I hope you aren't as frustrated with this as I am lol.
Good luck!
PS: I've also noticed with mine that the longer it's been since a reset the faster and more responsive pics, music etc. are. Right after a soft reset it really does take longer than 5 minutes to load album, but if it's been a while since resetting it's more like 1 minute. Very weird.
Well, I finally got my replacement Tilt2. I am very sad to say I am still having the same problem, which leads me to believe it is not the device's fault.
Is it possible to have a faulty SD card? If so, is there anything I can do about it?
I have an 8gb class 2 Sandisk. I only have about 30-40 pictures on it (besides alot of other files), and album takes forever to open (they are stored to storage card/DCIM/pictures). When in TF3D I click on album and it takes approximately 3 minutes for the album to appear. After that it takes an additional 5+ minutes for the actual photo thumbnails to load. If I click to open a photo, it hangs, and eventually goes to a black screen.
Every now and then a pic actually opens, but then hangs if I attempt to do anything (like zoom etc).
Any ideas or suggestions would be VERY much appreciated.
Thanks!
PS: This problem was present prior to installing any additional software.
Hey guys, it's probably the class of your cards. I have a class 6 8GB card. The load time when launching the Album app is a couple secs at most for me.
Hi:
Well, it turns out it was my SD card. But fortunately, a new one wasn't needed. I erased everything on it, then formatted it, and restored all items again.
Well, VOILA, it's perfect now.
I am so happy
Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread!!
It's my understanding that the higher class rating only benefits the writing of the files, not the reading.
Ditto
I'm having the same problem. Wondering what format you chose, etc.
I am not convinced it is the speed of the SD -- I have the fastest 4GB available at the time. I'll try the format and if that doesn't work, try without the card altogether.
Reformat resolves slow graphic & video file reads.
I also had a Fuze, and before that a Samsung Epix, and I have a 16 GB Card since I have a lot of music I play over Bluetooth in the car. The Music was a pain, since MS Voice Control crashed if I left "Media" checked (It would crash while trying to index all that Music) I WANTED to get a 32 Gb Micro, but they were scarce 10 months ago, and expensive when you could find them.
Anyway, other than the music thing, the card worked flawlessly in the Epix, and same in the Fuze. Only when we got to Tilt 2 did it fall down.
I really wish the folks above had noted if they formated the card at FAT16 or FAT32. I am sure there are only a couple of legitimate FAT levels that the phone can handle. I will look around some more and update with what I end up formating to.
UPDATE: Reformat Resolves this issue The issue being discussed here is NOT related to the performance of the card (or Class Rating) - For some reason, The HTC Tilt 2 and I would assume Touch Pro 2 has some issue reading graphic formats of cards previously formated in other devices. My card I is a 16 Gb. Class 2 card, after formating to FAT32 ONLY now performs fine, and it was so bad that the phone got hung trying to thumbnail pictures, and would do little else until I either waited 5+ minutes, or reset the phone. Cant figure why this is. I know it is not the conversion of Graphics to WVGA, since I did not use Active Sync to move the pics back to SD card after format, but just copied them back onto the card again. Weird! Glad I found this topic, I was about to get on the phone with AT&T. On an issue like this, I get a headache THINKING about explaining it to AT&T Tech Support.
NOTE: I forgot to mention that Video was patetic loading from card as well (hung the phone) and it loads just fine now as well. Just coppy you files off the card (Attach as a "Disc" not Active Sync - much faster) or use a card reader/adapter. Once files are off, format with Windows PC to FAT32, and copy back files - good time to clean house as well, LOL.

[Q] "Missing" SD card

I've been noticing lately that my external SD card randomly goes "missing" on my phone. I've noticed this on rooted stock and now on my current ROM, so I'm not sure it's ROM-dependent. I usually notice when I stop hearing my text notification sound (which is stored on there), and app icons in the launcher turn to the Android unknown icon. If I check the Storage settings it tells me there's no card present. Once I reboot it reappears and everything goes back to normal, beyond me needing to manually set my notification sound back.
Is anyone else experiencing the same thing? Ideas on a cause/fix?
I was having the same problem until I backed up all photos and important files to my PC then formated my card. Restored my pics and a few music albums and hasn't happened since. Hope this helps you

I was wondering if it might be card-related. Backing up a 32GB card takes a while, but I guess your route is a relatively easy starting point.
Well, I reformatted the card and put all my data back on it a couple of days ago and the problem happened again today. Any more thoughts?

Also had this problem and it ended up being a bad data file on my SD card can't remember what it was because this happened to me several weeks ago. It could also be a problem with the card or the SD alot.

Sounds Disappear

Hi,
New here and new to smartphones. Having an issue with my phone. All the sounds will disappear in the phone and it will not read or write to the SD card. The SD card is the 2gb one that comes with the phone. Restarting does nothing, only a master clear will get it back working right. There are no apps on the phone, and only a few pictures and a few mp3's.
The phone is running 2.3.5, have had it exchanged through t-mobile and it still does it, anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
rootoo
I have the tmobile version. Are you saying there is no sound coming out if the phone?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S using xda premium
The phone will still make a sound, just all the ringtones, notifications, and the SD card are gone. It does not display any sounds or alerts to choose from, the menu is blank with nothing on it.
Thanks,
rootoo
Your SD card is unmounting by itself, so it's either the SD card that has a problem, or your phone's connection pins.
Either way, send it back.

[Q] Why is MediaScannerService keeping my phone awake?

Hi,
As you can see, it's keeping my phone awake. I had heard sometimes some corrupted media on the external sometimes causes it to freak out, so I formatted the external SD and then made a custom reference point in BBS.
If I disable the Media Storage app the problem obviously goes away, but that kills the camera, gallery, etc. I'm thinking there may be a problem with the sd card itself as it has sometimes said 'Preparing SD Card' when I wake it up every now and again. I've seen a few reports of the S3 and Note 2 killing Sandisk 32 GB cards..
I'm running stock.
Any ideas?
Dude, check this out:

Also, search the forum here for the issue, there are *many* posts like yours here already.
You could try an app called rescan media root. In the settings you can have it to keep the media scanner off. I used to use it all the time with my gnex with no ill affects. Only thing is, if you add something to the sd card while plugged into the computer you may have to rescan media with the app for the computer to recognize it, other than that it's a huge battery saver.

I had a similar issue with corrupt MP3's on my storage. They played fine, but were incomplete in some way. Ran MP3validator (http://www.gromkov.com/faq/repair/mp3_validator.html) through them and fixed the errors and reformatted the card to FAT32 to boot. Media scanner usage back to normal.

[Q] T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 Ringtones resetting.

I got my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 on 7-26-13. It is awesome, but I have noticed one problem. About every 2 days or so the sounds automatically reset back to system defaults. It is only my sounds, no other settings or options, but it all my sounds: Ringtones, Notifications, Alarms. They change from the custom ones back to "default ringtone".
All of my sounds and ringtones are stored on my external SD card. I restart my phone if not everyday then every-other day.
This has happened about 3 times since I got the phone and is very annoying. I called T-Mobile and they said this is a first time hearing of this issue and reccomended I do a Master Reset. I really want to avoid the master as much as possible. Usually I go to bed at night, plug my phone in to charge and when I wake up the sounds have been reset.
It is almost as if the SD card is unmounting then remounting itself while the phone is powered on. I dont think that is happening I just wanted to use it as an example of what is actually happening.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Curtis.
The SD cards on these phones are notoriously flaky but usually not the stock ones... still. If you're rooted you can replace (or add to) the ring tones on the internal storage.
What's the status of your S4 regarding bone stock, Root, ROM etc.?
What additional if any apps have you installed from the playstore, etc?
What extsdcard card is installed?
As mentioned previously, sd cards can be corrupt, defective, etc. If you feel this may be the issue as you described, insert another card to rule the card in or our as the cause.
I am also on an S4, the sprint flavor, and have the exact problem as above. I understand the concept of moving the ring tones / notifications from the SD card to the internal storage, which will require root. Can someone please direct me to the correct location on the internal storage? Also once I have moved them, should I remove the folder from the SD card?
Thanks
