[Q] CM10 No transition effects? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've recently updated from cm9 to cm10 and noticed a bunch of options are missing from the launcher, like the transition effects for homescreens and drawer? Are they officially removed?? I still love the cm roms

Trebuchet (the launcher) is updated to 0.2 in CM10; but I don't see the Transition option in CM9 either... Well IDK, use Nova Launcher (or Apex/Holo if you'd like)

I would assume hey will add in the "extra" effects once the core functions and features are completed. It is very impressive on what the team has accomplished so far!

What launcher are you using on your GN?

I've noticed significant lag with the Galaxy Nexus and I suspect its the GN launcher. I believe I've tried all the variations of the modded launcher. I'm wondering if everyone else is seeing the same thing?
Do you notice laggy transitions?
Are you dealing with it or running a new launcher?
Which one are you running?
What do you miss from the stock launcher the most?
Do you really like widgets in the app drawer? (i'm on the fence about that one)
Adw ex launcher ftw.

I'm a huge fan of adw launcher ex!!! That was my first thought.
I tried adw ex right away but didn't like it. Was early on though. But I like the stock launcher enoughcit will be awhile before I try again.

Are you running a live wallpaper? A stock live wallpaper? If so, there is the cause of your lag.
I've never heard of anyone having a laggy launcher unless it was when using one of the included stock live wallpapers that wasn't the phase beam one.

There is extreme lag when using live wallpaper that isn't phase beam but even without there is noticeable lag. Its usually stuttering in the animation when going in and coming out of the app drawer or when scrolling from apps to widgets.
Are you on 4.0.1?
4.0.3
Different roms and different kernels and there isn't much of a change. I mean don't get me wrong its not like painfully slow that I want to hang myself or throw the phone out the window but it isn't even close to as smooth as the early alpha of ICS on the GS2
ADW launcher EX
Odd.. I've never experienced lag :/ try using nova launcher
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Yup. Tried that as well. And "Home Launcher" which is currently my fav as well as the CM9 launcher. Pretty much the same thing all around. I did use adw for a few hours and that was buttery smooth but they have to make some changes to their folder implementation before i can use that everyday
Using the stock ICS launcher. I need to get around to trying some of the other ones on ICS.
Stock and I suspect some of the lag will be addressed by 4.0.3 if you're not already on a custom ROM.

Nova Launcher Beta7 > *
As much as I like Nova Launcher and ADW Launcher Ex, my first choice of launcher is LauncherPro because, as far as I am aware, it is the only one that has built in widgets for Facebook and Twitter.
I know you can install widget packs like Android Pro Widgets or Colorize Widgets but they all have issues, like jerky scrolling or the Twitter app only showing up to 100 tweets.

guess thats an alright reason
i only use 3 homescreens, *usually only 1* and only ever use 1 widget *beautiful widget 4x1* and leave facebook/twitter to the apps
widgets are battery suckers
and if you need to see more then 100 tweets on your homescreen you should be opening the app
I'm surprised no one mentioned Go Launcher Ex, especially when it's free and provides a LOT of support. Check it out, it has very awesome animations for everything. Only downside right now is a bit of lag when opening the drawer, i'm sure that will soon be fixed.
Nova launcher. Best one. No lag. 4.0.3 custom and Franco kernel
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I use ADW.Launcher EX cuz it supports more than 16 apps using the built in Folders feature. Also icon skinning support.
I can't believe the stock launcher can't hold more than 16 apps in a folder... wtf is this, iOS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Nova Launcher Public Beta - Jellybean Base

Hi All,
For anyone that is a fan of Nova Launcher (like myself) you will be pleased to know that the new public beta is now available for download. The previous version of Nova used ICS as the base, the beta uses JB and has the following new features:
* Merge jellybean launcher
* Automatic desktop rearrangement
* Automatic widget resize
* Fling to delete
* Smoother
* More
* Import settings from other launchers (Stock, Samsung, HTC, Moto, Trebuchet, Apex)
* Custom Drawer grid size
* Add Info/Uninstall to quick menu, better centering and scrolling
* Update JB Icon Theme for Moto ICS
* Fix FCs
You can access the beta by clicking on Nova Settings, scroll near the bottom where it says "Nova Launcher 1.2.2 (Check for Updates), then click the 3 dots menu next to changelog, then select beta, then update. Very nice and very smooth.
Thanks for the heads up. By far the most efficient launcher from my experience, speaking in terms of battery use, or lack thereof.

I agree, I also find it buttery smooth as well. More so than other lauchers for some reason and I am not sure why.
On a side note I found an interesting trick with Nova Launcher while switching between ROMs. I have been running Nova Launcher for a while, but at one point I was using CM9 and I backed up the app through Titanium Backup. When I switch my ROM to a TW based ROM and then restore the Nova app with data through Titanium backup, I was able to keep all the icons from CM9. So the dialer, contacts, messaging, camera, calendar, calculator, gallery etc etc kept the CM9 AOSP themed icons. It's pretty cool, take a look.
I am currently running TDJ's Telus ICS release by the way.

Nice. I'm sure peeps running CM9/TW would find that to be a good feature. I had to do a ton of workaround to get AOSP icons on ICS.

You know when you have an app or a widget on one of your home screens? Usually you would have to tap and hold the app/widget and drag it to the trash or click delete. Not in Jellybean. You can tap and hold the app/widget and then just fling your finger across the screen and it will fly off the page for you. :laugh:
Sorry I am an idiot. In Nova Settings Look and feel section there is an option for Icon Theme. If you choose default it will have your default apps theme. If you choose Stock Jellybean, then it will have the AOSP themed apps. My mistake, had nothing to do with titanium backups I made. Sorry about that.
Does anyone who has used the new beta Apex compare the 2? That is what I'm using.

there is an apex thread too. To be honest, people are so divided between go, apex, nova and holo. I think they tend to stick with whatever a dev packs with a Rom. I am stuck between nova and holo myself
Thanks for the heads up about the update! I think it feels smoother and it has some cool new features.. I'm sure that apex will come out with a new update soon too

Launcher with drawer sorting (not apex)?

I was wondering what other launchers there were out there that can sort the app drawer by install date (descending, system apps first) other than apex. Ive used apex for a while now and switched the holo launcher HD because I noticed it was much smoother and snappier. The only thing I dislike about holo launcher is no option to sort app drawer (other than alpha asc). I've been searching around Google but I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything.
I noticed trebuchet (packaged with cm10) will sort by install date descending but when I backed it up via tb and tried it on my ROM (aokp) it would only sort by install date ascending (putting system apps last). Anyone know why this is?
And are there any other launchers that are small, light, and fast like holo launcher that will sort drawer by install date descending?
Edit: I know this sounds picky but the aosp based ROMs are becoming extremely smooth and I'd like to actually have a launcher that takes advantage of it.
Nova might do what you want.

Old, slower than APEX
there is no known launcher to this day exept from apex and go that can sort the app drawer by date. i'm guessing holo or nova might be the first ones apart from apex and go to introduce it. i would suggest checking out holo regularly because its great and it's fast as crap too

Rotation tweak on 4.2 is not working? edit: found the reason why..

Hey!
So I wanted to add the rotation tweak to build.prop which works well on Jelly Bean 4.1.2 but not on 4.2:
launcher.force_enable_rotation=true
and I also tried lock rotation: ro.lock.func=rotatelock and even that does not work!
I don't want to use any custom launchers so what to do to get rotation working? Is there modified stock launcher with rotation enabled yet??
Edit: It's disabled so if want to enable it then launcher2.apk have to be decompiled and then from /res/values/ bools.xml need mdifying launcher rotation text .."=false" to "true" .....
I too am not able to get rotation working with build prop edits. Anyone else have any ideas?
Did you save the build.prop? I've done it and it works fine.

There's an alternate launcher you can get at the themes and apps section for the galaxy nexus. It has landscape and a different grid if you want.

Not working for me either on Muzzy's 4.2. Its saving as the line is still there in the prop after reboot just not rotating anymore
** found that launcher zip gonna flash that now and give that a try
I'm curious. What rotation tweak are you guys referring to? Your default launcher rotates right? Mine does. So does the lock screen.
EDIT: I didn't realize I was in the gnex forum. I'm on 4.1 still on mine still. But my stock n7 is on 4.2 and rotation works fine.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
this is probably because the auto-rotation in the notification shade changed in. If you noticed on the Nexus 7 the auto-rotation toggle moved from besides the date on the notification shade to being one of the tiles on the quick settings panel.

I've wrote: I don't like custom launchers! Not even modified with the rows stock launcher!
Stock launcher with rotation is good but not with any other modifacations which makes it to look like older than 4.0 Android version..
CM10 trebuchet launcher would be ok too but it'snot working on JB 4.2 and JB launchers (4.1.2) from play store are laggy and buggy on 4.2 and not working well.
I've made research that how to edit stock launcher to enable rotation and nowhere is guides for it..
Why don't you try Nova launcher or Apex launcher or ADW launcher or go launcher? My favorite is Nova. I even bought the prime version because it is so awesome.

WHY THE HECK everybody asks why don't you use Nova launcher or Apex launcher...?????
DO YOU UNDERSTAND I wan't stock launcher and not custom launcher with limited features on "FREE VERSION"
I also do not want a custom launcher. If I have to choose between stock launcher with no rotate vs. a custom launcher I choose the limited stock launcher.
I do miss the build.prop hack on 4.1.2 but I can't get it to work on 4.2 either.

I use Widgetsoid with a toggle to lock the rotation, works well for me.
I am not talking about enabling and disabling auto rotation in the phone settings. I'm talking about getting the home screens to rotate with the stock launcher.

I have tried a lot as well, changing build.prop, creating default.prop etc... but none helped. I only solution I found to fix this is by using "Ultimate Rotation Control" app. It works perfect and not just rotates the home screen and apps of the stock launcher, it also rotates the lock screen.
The best solution so far for me.

I know now why the tweaks does not enable rotation..
it's disabled and it can be enabled by decompiling it and then going to /res/values/ and then have to open bools.xml and change rotation bla bla bla=false to true
then rotation works even without tweaks on build.prop if I remember but somehow the apk decompilers cannot recompile Jelly Bean 4.2 apps on my PCs
(Win7 & Ubuntu 10.04.4)
luckily in Themes and apps section there is stock AOSP launcher with rotation enabled and it works on OTA/Factory ROMs..
but I have modified Jelly Bean 4.2 on my nexus so I have myself try to modify the launcher...
Do you have a copy of this ROM with the modification?

Nope. I have OTA 4.2.1 takju ROM but it's just stock with rooted, busybox, flash player, etc. thread. But I have thread of jelly bean 4.2.x launcher with rotation which can be flashed via cwm. Now in using Motorola theme and its launcher that I modified to get rotation to work.

Transition Animations for AOKP?

I'm am loving what AOKP and Whitehawkx are doing for the Hercules.
I am looking for transition animations compatible with this rom such as Chaos, Rubik and Vortex.
I found a flashable zip called "AOKP Animation Manager" but the app force closes.
Thanks in advance if anyone can point me in the right direction

Yeah alot of animations are based on the Launcher you use, drawer, app launch, desktop scrolling animations.
But a few are based on your Rom/framework. I think keyboard animations and when you press back in an app are based on your rom.
These are the ones I'd like to change.
I think framework tool could work
