Sprint galaxy nexus on straight talk? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I just started rooting and flashing and all that and finally found my msl because I was told you need that to edit your data profile. Now before I experiment with putting my phone on a straight talk plan, does anyone know if this is actually possible and if so does anyone know step for step how to do it? I've been looking for a few months how to do it but never found anything that sounded like it would guarantee anything without having a sim card. So it's either straight talk or an 800$ bill to pay with sprint. So any pointers would be really appreciated.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

Um im pretty sure straight talk is gsm only.....
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Yes its possible.. ST will actually walk you through what needs to be changed and edited to get it working on ST if i were you id do it with a verizon GNex for better service

Alright cool, thanks.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

Also, do I only need to buy the service card or do I have to get a phone too?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

OK i don't why your listening to this guy... You cannot use a sprint nexus or a Verizon nexus on straight talk since they are CDMA phones..... straight talk uses T-Mobiles and ATTs network.. You will need a new phone

Straight talk does operate as both a CDMA and GSM MVNO. That being said, the average consumer is indeed going to be limited to their GSM offering.

It is possible to get on straight talk but it will not be an easy task. You will need a donor straight talk smart phone to flash over to the galaxy nexus.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

So really it will just be a matter of changing all the id's like my ssid msid and all that to match up with the straight talk phone right? Because I've been under the impression that all you have to do is have your msl and edit your data profile to match the phone that has the service you're trying to get. I've just never heard of it being done with a sprint phone.... This idea sounds almost nightmarish all the sudden

I have flashed several sprint phones to virgin mobile. Its no easy task and requires software that's not easy to come by but it is possible. Check out a thread by autoprime on the subject.

The reason I ask is because its cdma and GSM. Been searching around and seems that it can be unlocked with gevey but no sure truth.

i used to work with jailbraking iphone!!
the new iphone 4s its a worldwide phone!!
it have all the chips on the phone the CDMA and the GSM with only ATT VERIZON AND SPRINT frequencies
so yes you can unlock the iphone 4s with sam method and make it work with tmobile
remember you will only get edge not 3g/4g

not all the phones from CDMA are only CDMA the Razer from verizon can work on tmobile, the motorola phanton from sprint works on tmobile etc etc
Sam method no longer works, so the unlock isn't possible anymore

Yes you can its cdma and GSM as long as it is on firmware 5.0.1 and not 5.1, you can jailbreak it and use the Sam unlock tool. But I wouldn't reccomend doing that because it can only use edge.. and well T-Mobile edge is terribly sloooooooooooooooooooooooooow. Like it take 4 minutes to locate you on google navigation.

Don't do it. You will only get edge data (2g) and the iPhone does not compare at all the the galaxy s ii. (Unless you like really simple boring phones) the only thing the 4s has on the galaxy s2 is more apps, but android is catching up. I've had an iPhone on T-Mobile and the data speeds are unbearable.

this is a little late but... don't buy any sprint phones since you're not even going to activate it on sprint right away. They can report it lost and have it blocked to be used on sprint.
There is no true way to unlock the sprint phone. You can make it a world phone and have the gsm unlocked for outside the US, but not for the US gsm carriers. the SAM method basically just spoofs your t-mobile sim and that sim only. So if you would to use another sim, it will not work unless using the SAM method again. I believe the SAM method portal has been patched recently so it is down for the moment.
the value for the sprint iphones are below our phone, so I don't see why you don't just sell the white t989.

Sprint Galaxy Nexus Network type?

Has anyone been noticing any strange network types on your toro+ I usually get EVDO REV A:8 but lately it has been jumping between EVDO REV A:6, EVDO REV 0:5, and 1xRTT:7 never seen all these different types before I just noticed it when I started using Jelly Bean. Speeds are slower also unless I'm by the Sprint store then I would see like 2mb/s but anywhere else more like .5

If you don't think so maybe nandroid backup and wipe and reflash jelly bean see if it persists.

Since I see that you are seeing the same things I think it might be because its an LTE phone because my Photon doesn't display those networks I see I have data upgrades, and voice upgrades planned and some they say have been completed maybe it could be Network Vision. Normally if I had no bars call would not go thru neither would text but now it seems they will with no bars. Speed is slower since I'm on the outskirts of where towers are but better connectivity I can't explain it

My experience with sprint is that they have really screwy connectivity. I love their phones.. except the 4s which I hated and was useless. And I love their 'unlimited' data. But right now their going through a tough time. And that's cause I've been paying for 4g for almost two years and I have not gotten a single drop of wimax when I had the epic and the epic touch. Nor a drop of lte now that I have a toroplus.

Is there a setting to get the choice between hold or end the active call?

This is weird. All Android and non-Android phone had the choice to hold or end the active call while receiving another call. Here with the Nexus, I only get to answer the new call and the other one is automatically put to hold. Is there a way to change that? It's really annoying. Thanks!

Is yours CDMA? My understanding with Sprint you can't. I had ATT before and I could but it was a GSM phone. Just like CDMA phones can't use 3g data and talk at the same time but GSM can. I called customer care and they are useless, could not even help at all or at least tell me its due to type of phone (CDMA).

that has nothing to do with what he is talking about
he's talking about being on a call, another call coming in
If what you mean is that you have an incoming call, answer that call, then merge back into the original call, then you cannot do that on CDMA.
On GSM, you can.
Yes it does and I understood what he meant. CDMA is setup different than GSM. I have CDMA now and wish I still had GSM.

Just like everyone else, ive been wrong before, and it would be awesome if I am this time. I just dont think it does a lot of good to speculate either way when the rollout doesnt even start till next year and most of us wont see it till a year after that
It just seems to serve to confuse people and get their hopes up when it probably wont even work with this phone.
Also, a number of people have unlocked the T999 for use on Sprint and Verizon and are not able to get LTE. Just sayin. Im leaving it at that though.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
the nice thing about MSM8960 SOC board is that the radios can be programmed to virtually any current GSM, HSPA or LTE frequency in use in the United States today. the board has a RAT lock on it and not sure if it can be unlocked but all GS3's support any of the three frequency's. now if any one knows how to unlock and program them thats another story.. and just cause the software has a setting doesnt mean tmobile put it in there. and with the gs4 launching in feb-mar im not to sure they would even update the gs3. every one wants lte and if you have to buy a new phone to get it then thats how they make money.
Well I have talk to several people from samsung and tmobile and they said that the s3 is capable of the LTE, but you can't use them till the end of this year and beginning of 2013 .I hope this is true, if you guys don't believed me ask Samsung or T-Mobile and I try 5 times different people and they all told me the same ....

This is probably because they use the same build for all 4 models and it's easier to leave it in since 3 carriers carry it?
But anyways the s2 Hercules also had that option, but the hardware didn't allow it.

I dont' think they would pull out the LTE radio from thew chip just for T-mobile so I'm sure it's there BUT, T-mobile as being plain greedy of all companies across world has to release their Long Term Evolution Network on band NOT supported by S3 they will make more money on new phones possible Galaxy S3 Rocket or whatever

Well thats your opinion. THere is no reason to post a thread about an opinion with zero information backing it up. It is quite rude of you actually. DocHoliday has been telling everyone that there is no possible way for our phone to support LTE. And why does he say this? Well because thats his opinion, but he has it backed by very simple to understand hardware specs. LTE is a total separate radio then the standard GSM that our device has. So unless they release a new S3 for T-Mobile, then the S3 will never see LTE. There is no amount of software hacking that will put a hardware component into a device. And every T-Mobile person i have asked confirmed the S3 will NOT support LTE. SO EVERYONE just leave it already.
What really annoys me is how you decided you just had to create a whole separate thread about this which has been discussed hundreds of times. you have an opinion great, post in a thread that already exists.

[Q] Verizon lte 4g Samsung Nexus sch-i515

Hi guys new to the forums i did alot of searching and researching but just cant figure out a solution. I purchased this phone as a replacement to use in canada on the bell mobility network when i first recieved the phone i went to bell and tested with there sim card and the phone would not connect, so after being dissapointed i went home and downloaded and installed the Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.1 and unlocked and rooted the phone hopping this was my solution after this i headed back to the bell store and tested again still no luck I am hopping someone has any ideas for me i really would like to get this phone working
thanks
From what I understand, Bell is a GSM network correct? Well, Verizon is a CDMA carrier. The SIM card in our i515 is only for LTE. That's it. It won't work on Bell, I'm pretty sure you need an unlocked GSM Nexus for that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Bell Canada is not a CDMA carrier, you bought the wrong model, research first next time.
