[Q] Sleep of Death with Stock

So I read about other people having this problem with custom ROMs or rooted phones but I am on unrooted stock after OTA. I thought was one of the 60 or whatever apps I bought during the 10 cent promotion but I uninstalled them all and I still had the problem. It's not frequent but it's happened 3 times in the last couple of weeks. It's mildly annoying to have to pull the battery but the part that I can't live with is that whenever it this happens, my battery drains like crazy. The battery usage drops off a cliff and I caught this one after no more than 5 minutes. Any thoughts on this? I don't have an SD card so it's not that. Thanks!

to find the rogue app use betterbatterystats and cpu spy. not sure if they superuser. also badass battery works too.

Mine did this the other night on Calk's ROM. Something got stuck keeping the phone awake causing that cliff like drop off.

Happened to me on stock once, installed some game but didn't play it so I don't think that was the reason. It was either the default browser or the contact list.

Thanks for the replies. I figured it was an app but wanted to be sure before I started deleting things. I was just worried that this might be something to do with hardware or something.

I have same problem with different roms and i don't know what to do...

I had the same problem I figured out it was my wifi being turned on all the time. I have always heard leaving your wifi on when it's availible was supposed to save battery but I checked in better battery stats and saw there was almost 7000 wakelocks in a 5 hour period. I turned wifi off problem solved I only turn it on when I need to.

It is happend even wifi is off.

Your battery might be going bad... take it out and spin it on a flat surface if it spins freely the battery is most likely done.

My battery have 3 months old. My s2 is new....

Same thing is happening to my friend's white E4GT, I think there might be a defective/bad batch.

[Q] Battery life poor after 4.3 update

On my Galaxy Nexus was 4.2.2 takju version and at rhe time was locked and non rooted.
I have downloaded Google factory image for it. Then I decided to unlock boot loader since I was going to flash factory image.
Everything went well. No trouble at all.
So now I am on unlocked bootloader and still rooted.
But now battery performance seems to be poor (much worse then before).
Any ideas?
Any solutions?

How is that poor battery? If anything that's considered good, especially on a 1750mah battery, what did you expect?

Used to be better on 4.2.2.
Look at the break on blue line which indicate WiFi was off in that period.

Yes, and your screen shows 57% which indicates it clocked almost past 2hrs+ onscreen time. Users need to understand 4.2.2 was a broken firmware there's nothing good about it, which is why the update was skipped for 80% of the OEM smartphones and directly onward to 4.3
Custom kernel's may solve this problem for you but you need to consider the technical aspects and coding that went into this, smooth experience comes at the expense of something, also custom kernels stick to a min freq of 384, stock kernel runs at 500+ and 1026 on the N4. Considerably for mpdecision that handles all the tasks, that's considered good.
Also, how is this general? This should be in the Q&A section.

I thought that I'd mention that 4.3 also dropped the min. frequency on the Galaxy Nexus to 250, IIRC.

Impossible data usage

So I noticed last night that the too much data triangle popped up. I clicked it wondering what the heck because in the 2yrs I've had the phone it has never popped up. In fact I don't think there is one bill that even has 1GB on it for the whole month. (4GB is the allowance) 99% of my usage is on wifi.
So for 7 days I get what you see in the screen shot. First off, breaking news is just news alerts. All text in the app when launched, so no media at all.
Facebook... In 7 days I have uploaded 2 pics.
So the data is totally wrong. In no way is it even remotely close. Breaking news I don't think could even use that much data if it wanted to. Nearly impossible.
So my question is... Is this caused by a rogue app, false info or what? I even did a reboot thinking it would fix it.
It worries me something like this has happened seeing the amount of days for that usage as well as the apps & the fact I'm on 4G no longer probably 2hrs a day if that.

IIRC, some ROMs were reporting data incorrectly by a factor of 10, so 100 MB would be reported as 1 GB, etc. Check your account, as your carrier will have accurate usage stats, and see how they compare.

Right, it was introduced in math functions of CM 10.1 .
Upgrade your ROM and reset data usage.

I'm on a AOKP rom & have been for months. Odd it would just now happen as it hasn't happened before. I'll check my account & see what it says.

Looks like Verizon shows 128mb from the 18th up until this morning so all is good. I'll reset the data. I guess a more effective way to make sure data isn't out of control is to set up alerts & not rely on what the phone says.

Battery help.

I've noticed a sharp decline in battery. With only 35 minutes of screen on I've already lost 11%. In this case, index service seems to be using a lot of battery, but this is the first time I noticed that. I was getting like 7 hours of screen on, now I'm getting about 5.

IndexService works hard when you add new docs/books, it scans all of them, then it should go away. For some reason it didn't find 1 or more files on my SD card, kept scanning for hours. Did you add anything new to tablet?

I downloaded a powerpoint and then converted it to a pdf. It seems like it just won't stop. Everyone I look at its running time it is increasing.

I restarted and now it seems like index service is still running frequently, but no longer nonstop. Regardless of index service my battery still seems to be worse by 2 hours. It was awesome for the first couple weeks and now its just average. I don't even have that many apps.

I'm holding off for rooting until Knox is circumvented. Plus I don't see recoveries or custom Roms yet so I don't have all that much incentive.

What did they exactly change in the newest update?

I'm curious because I feel like the tablet is running smoother but it could very well be my imagination. I'm going to be happy if battery life is somehow improved by the update.

Honestly?? I don't see any difference. I think peeps imagine things after an update.

I though the speed up was imaginary too so I did a post update video comparison with the tabPRO. Definitely sped up.

No question the update sped up touchwiz and massively improved wifi streaming.

Video streaming such as YouTube is MUCH faster.

According to GSam I've been getting another 30min screen on time per charge since the update. Not sure if it's attributable to the update. Wifi is definitely better.

WiFi improved. The micro stutter with touch wiz is obsolete. Keep up the good work Samsung.

Battery feels like it is lasting longer to me. Keyboard entry feels a little laggier though. Could be the browser.

After update I lost like 20 apps.

I'm already rooted so I don't get updates. What update version is it? And what is the date of the update.

Short answer is yes. However, it will unroot your device whereby you will have to flash Beans cf_autoroot again.
Also Sammy may get knowledge that were rooted to start. Once you rooted, you tripped knox (thereby voiding your warranty) . We may get a way in the future to reset knox so that should you need service, you could flash back to stock and reset knox. With kies, sammy may record that knox was tripped and void your warranty, regardless of what you may do to it in the future.
Lastly, it will reinstall any bloat you may have deleted.
I went ahead and flashed it as I will be moving to Vietnam and nobody there ever checks knox, especially on top tier products.
