You must put the APK in /system/app and make sure it has no spaces in its filename and then set permissions, that should be it.

Copy paste whatever apk you want in the system/app folder.
Use root explorer and long press the app you have pasted.
Select permissions and make sure it is rw-,r--.r--
And you are good to go.
You don't have to set permissions at all if you're adding the apps to a ZIP before flashing, only if you're adding them to a ROM already running on your phone

That's right, only paste the apk in the system/app/ of the rom zip and flash it
you also will have to sign the zip or repack it.

How do I do that? And I don't have any lock screen files in that folder. Also, how do I change permissions?
Use es file explorer. Open it up and go to settings, turn on root explorer, then mount file system. To get to / click on the star on the top left "favorites". To change permissions long press the file, go to properties, then it will show permissions and has a change button to let u modify. Download the ROM.zip u r using and use es to browse .zip and copy the files u need. Don't forget the odex files if your rom has them

What is it doing? It doesn't have to install just needs the files copied to the correct location and the permissions changed. Then u just need to reboot and clearing cache and dalvik cache would be a good idea.

then reboot
make sure you know what are you doing and do backup first, if you mess up

Backup in recovery, as the instruction quoted tells. You really need to set permissions right, and need to overwrite it...
You can also rename it to framework2 , move to system/framework , set permissions and rename reboot

I know there are thirdparty apps on Google Play....but I would prefer to have the original.
So my question is if anyone have the original sms app lying around..and would be kind enough to post it here ?

Yeah I thought of that to...but this seemed like an easier way.
Anyway...thanks for taking the time !
or use a filemanager and find the file in the rom zip you flashed, it's in system/app/ , i think Messages.apk is the right filename. extract it and copy to /system/app and make sure you've got 644 (rw-r-r) permissions on it, which should be available in the properties for Messages.apk once you extract it. then reboot. between flashing the package again or doing this, you're covered.
I´m looking inside the rom zip file...trying to figure out wich one of them is the smsapp.
The idea is to extract it and the insert it in the rom with root explorer !
EDIT: HEHE...rynfrnk...same thought !

exactly what you want to do! it's Message.apk and you'll want to make sure you didn't delete HtcMessageProvider.apk as well.. extract those out and copy to your phone's storage under /system/app and 644 the files so their perms are set and then reboot, you should be golden.
Done..that was easy enough.....thnx again guys !

Hi there. I have a D855 installed FulmicsRom-5.0. I wanted to install McAfee to my phone. The provided apk works but it's not have some futures i needed. Newer versions, like v30c stock include, have private photo taking of intruders etc. I tried to install the one from my v30c twrp backup (extracted to PC); but it don't work. Always displays "Sorry, McAfee has stopped" or something like that. Is there a way to install my McAfee version (namely version 4.5.0.7066)? Any help is appreciated. I have the same problem.N5100 with chinese as default. I'd like to change that to samsung.
After pasteing you have to change the permissions of the pasted files to match the permissions of other files there.
I've never pasted apks, but changing the host file I have to fix permissions to rw-r--r--. Maybe you can paste, reboot into recovery and fix permissions to correct the permissions.

All the Stock Samsung Apps need also Samsung framework and CM based Rom do not have is framework included. So this will never work.

User_99 has a valid point that I overlooked.
If you want to try anyway:
(This is for root explorer options/methods may vary with other apps but it should give you an idea.) After pasting the files long press them to bring up the options. Press permissions, make sure read and write are checked for owner, and only read for groups and others. Then reboot for good measure.
To fix permissions in recovery (instead of using the method above) it depends on the recovery you have installed. Cwm has a fix permissions option under 'advanced'. Twrp has one too but I'm not well versed in it to guide you to it. After running the fix permissions option reboot.
As user_99 stated tho, if they are tied to the stock framework it still won't work.
