You can't flash any kernel using ota update lol...
OTA update mean = On The Air update
Means if Sony release an update for your phone, and your phone search and the update can be downloaded through your phone, your phone will notify you that an update on the air is available for your phone...

The reason why Sony is able to update your phone's firmware is because it has been officially signed by Sony. The bootloader is configured to flash ROMs which have been digitally signed by Sony only.
Custom ROMs do not have an official valid signature and therefore, require an unlocked bootloader in order to be flashed.
All the best.

Yep. That's why I installed the generic firmware instead.

New Arc S firmware [4.1.L.0.8]?

Apparently, a new firmware was just certified in PTCRB.
Does anyone have any info on this?
Wow, more updates!
Does anyone know what is the update for?

hope this one will be as smooth as GB.
hmmm looking forward to see what new features fixes does it have. hopefully it is not a regional framework only.
looks like it is a carrier/region specific update..btw one update for arc s is on its way..
It,s the same 4.0.4 but for a carrier in the UK
I'm not have update ?
I believe it's the 4.0.4 ICS UK update for 3.
At least that's what was reported by one of our other members.
Sorry if that dashed your hopes. LOL!
How will this work as I am on 3 and my Phone has officially updated to 4.0.4

My phone is branded to `3` and to concur with xtacy above , it recently updated to this firmware .
Hmm. Does this only occur on unrooted? I am on 3 and it just says I have the latest software if I check in PC Companion?
did u flash an ftf to update ur phone or get it through update official ?

I used PC Companion to flash then ran Doomlord root bat file. I take it I won't get any official update unless I remove root (probably have to do repair to do that though right?).
I have a notification saying FW 4.1.B.0.431 Is now available. Anyone know what it is? Don't want to update if it's just a few fixes for 4.0.3.

[q] How to downgrade from ICS to gingerbread

Hi,
I have looked around the forum and read a few threads about downgrading. I just need to make sure that my understandings are correct before I decide to flash it.
1- download flashtool, 6.x version because the 8.x version only works on ICS.
2- download ftf for gingerbread, im trying to downgrade to .42 for root, would there be any complications regarding the 0% battery issue?
Do note that im on stock ics with root now, what risks do I have with flashing now?
Also, if I bring the phone to a Sony store, would they be able to flash the .42 version? Or would they just flash the latest gingerbread version ?
Thank you for the advice
Sent from my LT18i using Tapatalk 2
Hy ! Your method is correct ! .42 not cause 0% (tested me too)
Downgarde from ics with root not have any risk! Pc companion use it to(like flashtool)
In the sony store very likely that they will give you ICS or the latest GB (not .42) .
I have done this many times and no harm(From rooted ICS to .42)
If j help you please hit thanx !!!
Any link for the ftf file? I downloaded one last night but since it wasnt from xda, I have reserves about it.
Edit: also, do I have to enable anything on flash tool? I read about no final verification check or something. What needs to be checked off on flash tool?
Also, after I flash gb, can I do a pc companionship repair ?

For what? It's solved. No need to refreshing it. You can't update your phone via OTA! Only PC Companion or SUS.

Repair the device using SUS/SUES. There should be a repair option. It should update your phone.
OR else flash a stock FTF/ Firmware using Flashtools then repair your device using SUS. That should work too.
Check the General Section for firmware source and tutorial.
