Just like the title says Is there a ROM without “black screen issue” ? You know the one when I press the home button to unlock the screen any nothing happens. I tried 3 different ROMs already (liquidsmooth, aokp and cm10) all of them have the same problem.

With AOKP and CM10 you can double click the home button to bring up the lockscreen.
I think it's an error across AOSP. So trying a Touchwiz ROM may be your solution.

Kinda wierd...im on LS and do not have that problem.

Like said before, seems to be an AOSP/AOKP issue. I have changed the kernel settings as some suggest (deadline/itellidemand) and the issue is still there, but not horrible
So could anyone recommend me a good jellybean based rom that is stable and dont have a lot of bugs

Nice thanks I will definitely try it
The black screen issue doesn't happen for me. I'm on the latest AOCP rom and running ktoonsez's 10.31 kernel. When I upgraded to the 11.xx kernels I started having the black screen issue. Went back to 10.31, and poof. Black screen issue gone.

Hmm I might give 10.31 kernel a try but I also have the same problem with the stock kernel that comes with the rom
I rooted and flashed cwm and cm10 day after I got the phone and all runs smoothly. No issues yet. Trebuchet launcher in cm is good but I switched to nova launcher cause I like scrollable docks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
I was having the same black screen issues you were running task's AOKP. I switched to touchwiz and the problem went away. I'm also getting MUCH better battery life on touchwiz, so I'm enjoying it for now.
I tried serenity which was pretty good, then settled on FreeGS3. I think I'm going to go back to serenity though, it's a really nice ROM and the "one handed operation" features are awesome. Remember if you run KT747 kernel on touchwiz you have to go delete qosmgr to prevent battery drain.
Try Tasks latest underwear kernel. I'm on cm10 and haven't any issues with blackscreen using his kernel.

Hey guys, I've been using Task's AOKP for as long as I can remember, but now I have a bit of a change and have to start driving a lot. On his ROM, I used the LeanKernel which was the absolute best for my phone. It never heated up, easily got 4 hours screen on time, etc. But now I need to use a TW Rom, because all AOSP / AOKP ROM's have messed up bluetooth. 4.1 had a 'fix' where I would have to call a number for bass to start coming through, which really wasn't a fix at all. And now on 4.2 bluetooth is just broken. I switched back to TW and bluetooth is fine, but unfortunately my battery sucks. So I am wondering if there is anything like the LeanKernel out there for TW?

ive been using AOKP for the last 2-3 phones. love the customization but i hate the slow speed. i could just try every single rom but why not just ask the community since im sure someone knows what rom i should be looking at
can anyone suggest a rom that offers the following without compromising speed?
- center clock
- circle battery mod
- cpu clock, io scheduler and governor adjuster
- gamma and multiplier adjuster
- reboot menu
- lockscreen weather
features id prefer but could live without:
- use volume button to move cursor
- some sort of quick torch

Any rom that incorporates AOKP features has the features you listed above. Take the Pacman rom, it has PA, AOKP, and CM merged. :good:
I have JellyBeer 4.1.0 on my Galaxy Nexus -- it has the ability to do the things you have in your "must do" list. It's got a bit of 4.2.2, CM10.X and PA. I've enjoyed it so far.
Disclaimer: I am a n00b! I recently unlocked and rooted by GNex... and JellyBeer4 is my first custom ROM flashed to my phone!
What arianR10 said. Pretty much every ROM other than CM, and probably with the exception of Paranoid Android since it has tablet mode options, are almost identical with other small tweaks and enhancements. Almost any ROM you switch to, will probably feel the same and have all the same options. I personally use Carbon ROM. Its seriously the fastest, smoothest ROM I have used. some of the things you mentioned though, depends on the kernel you use and not really ROM specific.
i tried
rasbean (no options)
vanir (quick but not many options)
ak47 (seems buggy, though its new)
aospa (way too slow for me)
pac (again, too slow.. i think having pa/cm/aokp in one rom slows things down)
i think i tried a few others but no luck
ill keep rom hopping til i find one im comfortable with. thanks
It's good to see that this phone is still so well supported. lent mine with CM10 to a friend. Can't wait to get it back!
Any ROM based on Stock will be very fast. For some reason AOSP ROMs are slow.

You can try my ROM which is in my signature.. D
It's based of Stock Google's Android JB 4.2.2 (Takju)
Stock kernel, but I may change the kernel to CM's kernel, then it's possible to adjust gamma and some other things..
But my ROM doesn't have center clock yet.. I have also tried to get CM's circle battery but no luck, I always get errors.. but I have included another circle battery..
It has CM's Torch app (with widget for homescreen and for lock screen..)
Lock screen weather: (Chronus), but when I have time I try to get CM's cLock (Newer version..)
And when I have time I try to get tablet mode support for SystemUI.apk, Launcher2.apk and for framework-res.apk too..
I used to run XenonHD, it had all the features you specified and more.
Have since moved on to ParanoidAndroid though, never looked back.
i suggest you xylon rom. very good rom with lots of options to customize.

I am running AOKP milestone 1, but I constantly have issues where my phone overheats, screen glitches up and has wierd colors, random reboots, and bad battery life. I don't know if it's an issue with AOKP or my phone. I tried jellybam, but for some reason, my camera does not work properly and I am stuck on phablet mode, even after switching to phone ui in paranoid settings. Everything is too small.
I am not sure what other roms to try. I am looking for one that's feature packed like AOKP and jellybam .. and very stable
Thanks.
In my opinion this is the best 4.2.2 and most feature packed rom available for the s3.

sorry, i guess i had better get detailed (i've been around long enough to know better). So here goes.....
up until here recently i've been comfortable and satisfied enough with TW. i haven't really wanted to try aosp. but the times they are a changing and im really interested in halo and the different UI changes that come after 4.1.2
i'm very comfortable flashing between cwm and twrp and have a decent enough knowledge about android flashing(4th modded android device).
Now on to it.....
The past few days i've wanted the new features enough to break away from TW and try something fresh and new. I'm not a dirty flasher and 9 out of 10 times i format /system right along as part of the process using both twrp and cwm(depending on op's installation instructions). so far i've tried slim bean, liquid smooth, pac-man, and paranoid with the same outcome...
when trying to open up any camera app, whether native or downloaded from play store, an error message pops up that states 'Can't Connect to Camera', then the app closes itself
at the suggestion of someone else, i've rebooted into recovery, wiped cache/dalvik, fix permission, then rebooted with a 0% success rate.
i just can't seem to figure it out and have been using google with no luck...........PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks
edit: is there any way to make a tar file out of a rom zip and flash via odin?- nvm
Ok you should go into app manager in settings and clear data there or if you use Titanium backup clear data for that particular app itself.
You do know the camera and gallery Ecole one in the same on 4.2 or higher. Which means that if you have deleted or frozen the gallery itself or done anything to it it will also do what you are describing.
Have a great day!

thanks again for the quick reply, i was unaware of the gallery being the same app as the actual camera app, that's good info to have
but that fact makes this even weirder as i can access the gallery just fine, still no camera
i took your suggestion and cleared data for the gallery in both 'manage apps' and 'titanium' with no success.
the aosp roms boot up and operate just fine with the exception of the camera
anything else you could think of, thanks again
Anyone else have any idea?

FYI - With some of the newer phones (Like my Virgin Mobile MG2 baseband) the camera will "not connect" with any CM / AOSP ROMs. Ive tried several different camera (Photosphere and such) with no joy. Ill keep checking though.
Should I try flashing a different baseband? I'm on md4 right now.
Also, I tried flashing the nex2zip 4.2 camera with the same results. Gallery works, no camera

No, I didn't drop phone recently. This is not a hardware issue as the camera works just fine on tw based roms. Also, I don't believe this is a "newer" s3 as aosp roms boot up and operate just fine.

I'm interested in this thread as the same thing is happening to me. Currently running MD4 stock, and each time I back up to flash a non-Touchwiz ROM and flash it, the camera stops working. Currently tried CM 10.1.0 stable, CM 10.2 nightlies, Slim Bean 4.2.2, Slim Bean 4.3, Vanilla Rootbox 4.2.2, Vanilla Rootbox 4.3, and PAC-Man 4.3. Reflashing stock MD4 from Odin, restoring the TWRP backup, or flashing MOAR or a similar Touchwiz ROM gets it working again. Want to get this working since I want a different ROM, preferably Slim or the like. Camera firmware starts with GK.
It seems like the best roms now are all CM based, but I miss a couple features from my TW based roms. Mainly I miss KTweaker and being able to overclock my phone, then I really wish I could hold the back key to kill apps. Is there anything like that for CM based roms?
Back to kill is in developer options at the very bottom. Developer options must be enabled by pressing build number 7 times until it is enabled. Overclocking is kernel based and I believe Leankernel and BMS both support this.

Ok the only roms i ever tried that allowed you to pick a kernel were TW based so i didn't know if ktoonzes was only for TW or if anyone could use them. I'm using IllusionRom 2.6 (which is running quite smoothly. Just need to change all the blue icons in the status bar to red lol)
I've tried ktoonzes and leankernel but after flashing both my screen looks all crazy, zoomed in like 1000% and the colors are way off. Idk what i'm doing wrong. Am i not supposed to use the AOSP version with CM?

You have to choose a kernel build from the appropriate date range; the weird color issue was a CM bug from around October 20th if I remember, and it was fixed in the next round of kernel releases. Plus, Illusion doesn't get updated all that often, so you probably need a kernel build, date-wise, that is as close as possible to the build date of your version of Illusion.
I just switched roms to pure bean
Can I use ktoonzes with that?
