Hi guys this is my first Android device after a few years with an iPhone, now have a N7105.
This device is carrier branded in terms of software with what I assume is a custom ROM from the Telco?
Can I flash the phone to the latest stock ROM, an international version? From what I've read the latest Hong Kong ROM would be fine.
Needs to work in Australia on Telstra's 4G network.
Does anybody have a seriously easy to follow guide for this process?
And finally does this process void my warranty? Anyway to avoid that?
Good day newcomer!
First of all, congratulations on your first Android device and a warm welcome into our community. I'm sure you might be sick and tired of the same boring interface offered by all iGadgets and that jailbreaking and carrier locking stuff.
I must assure you that Android might be a teeny-meeny difficult to use for a first time migrator but once you're enlightened with all the processes and jargons, you would surely regret the every penny you spent to own your iPhone.
Now, for all the N7105 related development, you can head over to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1960
For all the latest stock ROMs head over to: www.sammobile.com/firmware/ Find your model, select the region you want and download the ROM. You can use their guide on how to flash/install stock ROMs, proovided on their website.
Carrier Unlock thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014982
Flashing stock ROMs doesn't voids your warranty only custom ROMs but you can always revert back to stock ROM making your warranty intact again. But all this could increase your flashing counter which can be resetted using scripts which is currently not available for N7105.
Last but not the least, you can always Google your queries and never call yourself noob in our community.
We are always happy to help you. BEST OF LUCK!
Holala...
welcome to sammy world.
^_^ noob? We are all noobs. We came here to learn. But we shld be an active learner here. We help each other.... BUT....
Make sure you use the search function first on all your question. Most of the basic question is normally being asked by others.
...
When you decide to do something to your phone based on certain thread (root, custom rom, custom kernel, mod nd theme), read the OP and full thread carefully. Only proceed once u know what to do.
....
When u face problems with ur device, don't panic... evrything will have a solutions. Even the worst case, we still have samsung service center. ^_^
....
Last thing, our note 2 is the best samsung device. Which actually with stock rom nd kernel + root, u will have the best experienced alrd.
Good luck with ur new device.

Hello All,
I am using the O2 UK stock ROM for alreadz 2 monthes. now iam wondering if i should try to flash the device with one of the ROMs here.
can anyone tell me if i should do it or not, what is the advantage of flashing a new ROM?
thank you
Mostly to improve performance and stability, also to fix some problems.
All new roms comes with new AKU version, this is something like SP for Windows systems.
before you flash
always read the 1st post or 2 of the rom you are flashing.
all the info you should need is there
this way you won't be back and your next post won't be....
"help i have bricked my diamond"
good luck and have fun!
When you are happy with your phone now, don't flash it.
If you have issues, see if a new rom fixes it.
its all about the speed man!!!
and making it look unique
Flashing always has its small or big issues.
When you don't know what flashing is about anyway, why would he bother?
I first flashed a new ROM with ELFin and the speed was mind-blowing, not to mention the extra free space and RAM. For me, it's a must.
Just make sure enough people have downloaded and commented on its reliability and stability as well as the above (i.e. speed, RAM etc).

If you are happy running your stock O2 rom then just keep it that way & maybe just read up on customizing your phone.
Rom flashing on a £400 phone should only really be done if you know what your doing, so if you do decide to flash a custom rom to your phone then you better get busy reading up on the do's & especially the dont's otherwise you could end up with a £400 brick
read the wiki's
read the tuts/info/ posts on cid/ sim/ security stuff.
read read then read again is my advice, because it's amazing the amount of people that brick their phones just by pure ignorance.
For me it's a no brainer I like modding anything & everything nm just phones hehehe
Any's good luck on which ever you choose to do
It it works and you are happy with it don't flash. It really all depends if there is any thing in the new rom that you want.
Hi guys
I have a totally stock phone atm and I want to mod the UI. To be honest Im not sure where to start! I want to get a few things running such as the analogue clock and a custom theme. My questions are pretty noobie so please bear with me:
1)DO I need to flash the ROM and what benifits does this give?
2)I have read about there being an old and new manilla. How can I tell which I have and do I need to upgrade if I get a new one?
3)what are the chances of me bricking my phone if I mess with this stuff? (especially the ROM flash)
4)I have experience modding phone UI's but I have never done a smartphone before. Is there anything specific I should know regarding the differences before I start going too in-depth?
any and all advice would be great, cheers

If you follow crackwhores guide, you cant go wrong. You wont be sorry if you flash a cooked rom. Flash NRG28's latest Rom, or one of Dutty's or Miri's, just check out the Rom Development Forum and see which one takes your fancy. I have found NRG28's to be best for me, but they all have something to offer, for me, the biggest benefit is the difference in speed, i couldnt believe how much faster my HD was the first time I flashed it. If you get stuck with anything, just ask and someone will be able to help.

1. No, there is no NEED to. But a non-exhaustive list of benefits include updated applications, faster response times, less bugs, etc.
2. If you go to the settings tab in TouchFlo and look down at the About section, it tells you what Manila version you have.
3. Most flashing issues are completely recoverable these days. However, there is always that miniscule chance that you muck up your device completely . However, if you follow my guide you really can't go wrong.
4. There are some tutorials on skinning and Manila modding in this forum. I would suggest reading through them!
thanks guys, that's put my mind at rest a bit! Time to get flashing

@Dodolom - welcome
Best place to start reading about the rooting process is in the sticky at the top of this thread. Lots of information by many smart guys, so take your time and read through the lot before doing anything.
Why root? Well by rooting you can install custom ROMs which contain new software or customisations and programs outside of the stuff that HTC chooses to provide in their stock ROMs.
Good luck.
And just a word of advice - have a good read of all the stuff in the forum before asking questions. Will most certainly reduce the risk of you getting flamed
thanks mate.
Also, just run the phone as it is - you may find it does what you want it to do out the box - rooting is only neccessary if something you wish to do isn't available without rooting...

At the moment, I wouldn't say it's very advantageous to root your desire. I rooted my G1 back in the day (only a year or so ago I know ) - but with the Desire, the rooting process still leaves part of the OS locked down, which means you still don't get full control over it.
The only advantage I could see at the moment for rooting the desire would be to get Apps 2 SD. However this is rumoured to be a new feature in Android 2.2 (Froyo) which is due for release within the next month or 2 for Desires. So rather than void your warranty and risk bricking your phone. It might be better to wait for 2.2 and see what you get with that!
i have no idea why everyne doesnt root the desire when they get it... goto modaco.com goto the desire section and follow the r6 riskfree root process and now ou will have a world class phone that you can install app2sd , app2sd+ or app2sd++ nt to mention all the custom roms... good luck
What's the difference between app2sd, app2sd+ and app2sd++ ???

Welcome.
First - and this is important - there is no such thing as a best ROM.
It's too subjective. What suits one user will not necessarily suit another. There are no shortcuts - you've got to try them yourself. Nearly every custom ROM has an introductory description anyway.
Rooting - here is everything you need to know. Read every word, and don't even think of installing before you read every word again. And again. And again.
It's not that hard - just read. Post again if you have problems.

Thanks man for this help
Sorry for interrupting, but what are the factors that make a Rom good, how i can measure when i trying each one ?
To be honest if u do not know, stay stock. It's quite decent.
Since u are still new to this phone, you won't be able to tell immediately the improvements of custom roms and stock roms.
Rooting is not illegal. But it does void warranty. So far I have not seen or heard ppl getting arrested or charged in court for rooting.

This is my second post. I was pointed to this relevant section of forums/
I am sorry if I am asking something I should not. I am not a technological guy, so I need some help and patience.
My wife has an old gt-i9082, it is at android 4.2.2. I think it is around 3 years old.
I would like to upgrade it to a better version because the cellphone system are already very slow and some app are not working anymore.
A friend told me it is possible upgrade to android 5 (or better), since the cellphone are not at warranty anymore, but I do not know how to do it.
It is a dual sin phone (I do not know if this is important), and also I do not worried if I lose all stuffs. I already back her agenda and some significant photos. I just want a new better operational android system.
So, I am asking for a step by step guide to do it, if it is possible. If it already exist, please point me to the relevant thread.
Again, sorry for my lack of understand.
Thank you very much for your time.
