[Q] BRICKED S3 d2att - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm not sure if it is bricked or not, but I've been running CM10 for the last 2 days (I've only had the s3 for 2 days) and decided to go stock again.
I read around and downloaded the first rom from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
I flashed it ODIN (I made a backup via TWRP beforehand).
Turns out I didn't do a factory reset before hand.
Now when I turn it back on, it just sticks on the SAMSUNG logo. I can still boot into Download. I tried to flash a recovery but for some reason I can't boot into a recovery.
Please help I've only had the phone for 2 days
Is there a way for me to restore via the back up i made since I made it on my external SD?

Well the good news first, you aren't bricked. When you brick a phone it won't do anything like power on, recovery, Odin, etc. First let's make sure your doing the button presses correctly press these: HOME + volume UP + POWER until the phone reboots and it says SAMSUNG with blue text at the top left corner then let go. If it worked you can try to restore your Nandroid by clicking back up and restore and the click restore.
If you cannot access your Custom Recovery then put your phone into download mode, Home + volume DOWN + POWER, and then open Odin 3.07. If you have a Stock ROM that is in a MD5 format, Odin flashes this format, then you only need to select auto reboot and f. Reset and be sure everything else is unchecked. Click PDA and find your ROM file and then select it. Be sure its on the PDA slot or you could actually brick your phone beyond repair. Plug in your phone and in one of the boxes it should pop up a colored box that says, ID:COM, with a number which means that Odin recognizes your phone. The. Click start and let it sit until Odin says "PASS" in green then you can remove it.
If you don't have the stock ROM here are some links:

If you aren't on AT&T Galaxy S3
SGH-I747 DO NOT flash these ROMs.
If you are with a different carrier go to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28019751

Soft Bricked after Flashing CM9 over CM10...

Hello all,
I accidentally flashed CM9 9/9 nightly over the CM10 9/8 nightly. I was unable to get back into clockwork, so I attempted to flash back to stock via Odin. Now my device boots, but hangs at the Samsung logo.
How do I recover this?
Thanks in advance...
Depends on what you want.
If you wanna get back to stock go into stock recovery (or whatever recovery you ha e right now) and do a factory reset (data wipe). See if it powers up. If not, follow instructions again on flashing stock Odin file. All you probably need is a Factory Reset though
If you want to go back to CM10 flash the CWM tar.md5 file through Odin (I have a thread in the dev section with that file in the OP, look for CWM Recovery thread). Make sure auto reboot is not checked. After the tar.md5 flashes, pull out the battery, put it back in, go into recovery ( while phone is off, hold volume up+home button+power button @ the same time until you see blue text flash on the top left corner of the screen then let go)
In CWM do a Factory Reset and wipe flash CM10

At this point, I just want a functioning phone...
I'll try the CWM tar.md file. Thanks for the help.

There is no CM10 tar.md5 file. There is the CWM Recovery tar.md5 file found here
Get into download mode, plug phone into computer, open Odin and uncheck auto reboot, load the tar.md5, flash. If successful take out battery, put it back in, get into recovery, perform Factory Reset, flash Cm10, reboot
Worked like a champ. Thanks again...

AT&T galaxy s3 softbricked

I was trying to install one of drewgarens touchwiz roms. touchwiz milestone 5 firefly i believe. not the most recent one because i was too lazy . boy was that a mistake. everything was going smoothly until it booted and it got stuck on boot. I thought no big deal just go into recovery and use a backup. until i did so and recovery was gone and there was only download mode. I have spent the whole afternoon trying to fix it and none of it has worked. I tried flashing the stock rom and it as well got stuck on boot. I looked at all the AT&t relevant ones and also the international versions. so all in all is there anyway to fix this and has anyone had the same issue? i was flashing from cyanogenmod 10 m1 to the drewgaren rom btw. I can also go to download mode. I tried to flash stock but it still gets stuck on boot. log. I flashed the ATT boot logo and it did not work. all of which were flashed through odin.
any thanks in advance is greatly appreciated.
I think you can flash back to stock with just download mode + odin

Unplug your device. Hold the power button to turn it off. Hold volume up, home, and power. It should go to recovery. If you do the same thing with volume down instead of up, you can get into download mode.

Sounds like you need a recovery...try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746665
[SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 QCOM TOOLKIT V2.3] Drivers Backup Root CWM BusyBox + MORE [ATT]
Follow the instructions and you should be able to flash the recovery and continue on with what you were doing. Remember to wipe really good when going from aosp back to any stock based ROM. They are completely different and will cause boot loops if you don't wipe.

K I made it home lol. I'll attach a Odin flashable cwm, it's an older one but it'll get you a recovery, I hope. I just tried it on my phone with Odin, 3.07 both with usb debugging enabled and disabled on my phone and it worked both times. Crap keep getting errors uploading right to xda servers, I'll drop box it in a minute.
Ok here we go Odin cwm--> https://dl.dropbox.com/u/28590257/Odin recovery/CWM-Recovery-LTE-SGS3-v4.tar.md5
Newest twrp --> https://dl.dropbox.com/u/28590257/Odin recovery/twrp2.3.1install.zip
I'll add the newest twrp for you lol. Flash the cwm with odin, should work and then the twrp is a zip you can flash in cwm.
Hope this helps get you a recovery.
Remember in Odin use only PDA and only have auto reboot checked.

This may sound like a stupid question but what boxes do i tick in odin?
After your hooked up and Odin is open under the options on the left side check only Auto Reboot. On the right under files check PDA and use that button to browse your computer and find the cwm you downloaded from my dropbox. Then just hit start on the bottom of the Odin window and let it finish, your phone should reboot when its done. It will get stuck again like you described in your first post but pull the battery, put it back in and boot into recovery using vol up,home and power buttons. That should (if everything flashed OK) put you into cwm 5.5.0.4. Once there wipe data/factory reset then restore the back up you mentioned in your original post, that should get you running again.

If something has happened to your backup then you could try the stock rooted stuff here , just pick the one for your carrier and follow the instructions. :highfive:

That's odd. Couple of stupid questions on my part just to make sure, you had the right button combo, and, you released the buttons soon as the splash screen came on? Can you still get into download mode? Oh and did you do the wipes while in recovery?

I take it you got your phone working lol. Glad I could help a little. Little advice, anytime you switch to a different type of ROM (aosp to stock based or the other way around) make sure you wipe data/factory reset before flashing anything. It will save you problems in the long run.
Oh and could you go back and edit your original post and just add solved in brackets to the title for people in trouble looking for info.

Depending on which stock ROM you flashed with odin you should now have a recovery, if not then something isn't right. The full bone stock ROM should have the factory 3e recovery, and the root injected stock ROM should have some version of CWM recovery. A factory reset will most likely fix your boot loop, if there is no recovery flash the rooted stock ROM that matches your device from this guide.
Edit - Didn't see there was a second page 0_o

Bricked? or Soft Brick...

Hi guys,
Was trying to install a ROM last night in CWM Recovery, then I was having some difficulty, after each ROM swipe I was doing the Factory Wipe/Dalvik Cache Wipe/Cache Wipe.
Anyways, I ended up having to try and flash the pre-rooted Stock ROM, I used Odin 3.07 to flash it and in Odin it appeared to work fine, the phone was rebooting and Odin was in "Pass" mode, but the phone never gets beyond the Samsung boot screen.
I then tried to see if I could flash CWM Recovery in Odin and try and get into Recovery mode, it flashed fine in Odin and the device rebooted but still stuck in Samsung boot screen.... but I cannot get into Recovery mode manually, I even tried getting in via the Q3 Toolbox kit, and it says it cannot locate the device :/
So today, last desperate option, I tried flashing the un-rooted stock image for my carrier (Rogers), it seemed to work fine in Odin but it STILL just will not boot back up, still stuck in the Samsung boot screen.
Is this what a brick is? Beyond continually trying to re-flash the stock carrier MD5 via Odin, what can I do? Oddly enough the phone does recognize in the Q3 Toolbox for the Root options, just not for the Reboot into Recovery option. Is there something I can try in the Q3 Toolbox?
/Scared / really concerned
Please help, any help is appreciated.
Once again, I CANNOT get into CWM Recovery.

You're soft bricked, don't panic just yet. A hard brick is when the device is completely unresponsive. So far this sounds fixable.
To get into recovery, are you holding down the volume up + home key for long enough after the Samsung logo appears?
I'd try that again, but if not: Try to Odin CWM again but uncheck "Auto-Reboot" in Odin. After it's done flashing, pull the battery out, put it back in, and use the key combos to get into recovery. Hopefully you have a nandroid backup saved or another rom saved on your sd that you can restore at this point. (Please note that using this method may increase your flash counter, but that can easily be fixed with Triangle Away).
Hope this helps.
If its just hanging at the samsung logo..pull the battery, put it back in, boot into stock recovery ( vol up+home+power) wipe data/factory reset then reboot.
After that just download one f the one click rooted stock rogers roms. Odin it, Then use the S3 toolkit to flash a recovery only.
Should be goo to go from there
I am flashing the pre-rooted stock ROM's via Odin again, and then will try and flash CMW Recovery again but without the Auto-Reboot selected.
I was pretty certain I was holding the keys long enough previously to try and get back into Recovery but it never would actually go into CWM Recovery.
Will let you guys know how it goes, thanks for replying.

Just tried this.
Flashed the pre-rooted stock ROM, it went to Pass in in Odin, device never booted past the boot screen. Pulled out battery, re-inserted and then flashed CWM Recovery in Odin with Auto-Reboot turned off, that went fine to Pass, pulled battery and did the key combo to enter Recovery. I got the "Booting Recovery" in top left corner in blue for a second, held onto the key combo and nothing, just went back into the same Samsung boot screen and it's stuck there.

Hmmmm...one more thing to try. Re-download the stock firmware image in the unlikely event that you got a bad/corrupted download (also may want to try the version that doesn't have root injected). Then try again.
I'd say to try a different USB port on your pc, but since Odin is saying Pass that doesn't seem likely. Worth a shot though if the above fails (and also worth trying to Odin from a different computer).
Hang in there, you aren't hard-bricked yet! :fingers-crossed:
It has to rebuild cache everytime you flash, if you are clearing things correctly. This can take up to 10 minutes. Also, when the first samsung logo appears take finger off power button and hold the home and appropriate volume button.

The Q3 Toolbox kit saved me.
I couldn't flash into Recovery (not CWM Recovery, stock Recovery) no matter how long I held the key combo
But I eventually managed to get into Stock Recovery using the Q3 Toolbox.
Thanks for the advice people.
Holy shiiit that was nerve wracking for a while.

AOKP to STOCK BIG PROBLEMS

i need some help here guys. i was running AOKP for the longest time and loving it. then today i tried to update to the latest version. i downloaded the rom and went to flash the .zip in CWM. i've done this dozens of times. this time things were completely different. i kept getting FCs over and over. so i booted into recovery again to reflash. for whatever reason, it seemed like my file system was corrupted. folders i had never seen were all over the place. it was a big mess. i decided to flash back to stock. i booted into DL mode and did this with odin successfully. then upon reboot, the phone was stuck at the Samsung logo. looking into this i saw that i needed to boot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache. i tried doing this but no matter what, my phone will not boot into recovery. i have even used odin to flash CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.0.tar. when i press volume up+home+power i get the first samsung logo with the tiny blue text up at the top saying "recovery booting" but then nothing happens and the phone just goes to a normal boot attempt, which stalls at the samsung logo. please help guys. just for a quick overview. was on [ROM] AOKP(Jellybean 4.2.1 )Task & Ktoonsez (12/23) (AT&T/Rogers), potential file system corruption during a routine upgrade, flashed back to stock with odin (meaning i can still boot into DL mode), but CANNOT boot into RECOVERY mode. i'm freaking out

First of all, good job on searching before posting! :good:
Second, if you want help, try using capital letters at the start of a sentence and using paragraphs. It makes it sooo much easier to read that way.
Third, just keep trying. But from what you're saying about a file-system issue, that could be bad? It's not familiar to me anyways. Hope it didn't damage the internal SD.
If nothing else works, then try the USB-JIG to access Recovery mode. They're like $5 on eBay.
Okay, try these things.
1) Odin a non-rooted, stock ROM that comes with a 3E recovery and try to access that recovery.
If that doesn't work, move onto this step:
2) Odin a different recovery. I attached one to this post. Just unzip it and then odin it. :CWM-Recovery-LTE-SGS3-v5.tar:
Try to get recovery again after a battery pull.
If that doesn't do it, then try this next:
1) Odin a rooted ROM onto the phone.
2) Download the attached "openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-d2att" and unzip it.
3) Download this ADB & Fastboot tool and extract it to your C:/ drive with subfolders using this path: "C:/Android/platform-tools/".
Here is the file to download:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390135922294523275
4) Rename the openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-d2att to "recovery" and place it into the Platform-tools folder.
5) Open the JPEG and follow the EXACT same commands in the pic. This will install TWRP recovery for you.
Then try once again to get into recovery.
If it still doesn't work, then buy a USB Jig.

Thanks so much for the advice.
Regarding the TWRP installation, is the phone connected to the computer in DL mode for this?
I am currently downloading a rooted stock ROM. This might help shed light on what is going on here.... I unzipped the .tar you attached to your first post and stuck it in the PDA slot with the phone connected and in DL mode. ODIN did nothing and the returned a FAIL message saying that it "Failed to Open Serial [COM] Port". Hmmmm. Anyways I am going to try to install the TWRP recovery. If not I will buy the USB jig. The TWRP doesn't use Odin. You have to use ADB/FastBoot like I show in the picture attached with it.
I have yet to find an Odin flashable TWRP.

[Q] Help CWM Recovery not working

I have successfully installed Omni ROM with Android 4.4.2 to my Note 2 and I don't like it and want to go back to stock. Before installing the ROM I made a CWM recovery using version 6.0.4.3. When I boot the phone into restore I am able to restore everything but system data. When I try to restore system data I get a message that says .android_secure . img not found skipping restore. How do I fix this so I can have my phone back?

I have successfully installed Omni ROM with Android 4.4.2 to my Note 2 and I don't like it and want to go back to stock. Before installing the ROM I made a CWM recovery using version 6.0.4.3. When I boot the phone into restore I am able to restore everything but system data. When I try to restore system data I get a message that says .android_secure . img not found skipping restore. How do I fix this so I can have my phone back?

Did your restore boot?
Yes, I have restored boot. After I perform the restore everything seems to be normal during, but it gets stuck on the ATT screen during boot.

Try this.
From Zen Arcade's [ROM][4.3][Dec-2013] AT&T I317-UCUBMK6/MJ4 *Stock* Rooted Odex/De-Odex/Odin thread
After flashing one of the stock packages, you may need to flash the MK6 tz.img and optionally the param.bin from the MJ4 leak. The zip below contains two Odin packages.
Try flashing the tz only package first (in Odin), then the tz+param package to see if this gets your phone to boot. You may also need to boot recovery and do a factory reset.
AT&T i317 ODIN 4.3 UCUBMK6 TZ.IMG & UCUBMJ4 (Leak) PARAM.BIN (AT&T Note 2 ONLY)
I317UCUBMK6-TZ-PARAM.zip
http://d-h.st/CDK
- Run Odin3 v3.07.exe
Download Link http://www.mediafire.com/download/77...x2/Odin307.zip
Unzip to where you can run it.
- Put your Note 2 in Download Mode
Entering download mode is very simple. First you will need to turn off your device. Once it’s off, you need to press this button combination: volume down, power button and home button. Keep them pressed until the download mode shows up. Once you’re there, you will be required to press volume up to enter the download mode or volume down to cancel and reboot the device.
Plug into a RELIABLE usb port and a RELIABLE usb cable (preferably the white Samsung cable) and wait for it to show up in Odin (COM5 or something like that)
Unzip the I317UCUBMK6-TZ-PARAM.zip file you downloaded
- Click the PDA slot in Odin and locate the I317UCUBMK6-TZ.tar.md5 that you downloaded and unzipped
The filename that goes into the PDA Slot is I317UCUBMK6-TZ.tar.md5
MAKE SURE IN THE OPTION AREA ONLY AUTO REBOOT AND F.RESET TIME ARE CHECKED!!!
- Click START and wait. It will complete and reboot.
Try flashing the tz only package first. See if it boots.
If not, repeat the above steps using I317UCUBMK6-TZ-PARAM.tar.md5.
You may also need to boot recovery and do a factory reset. Do this after second ODIN flash.
If your phone still hangs after second flash, pull the battery, and boot into recovery mode.Just hold down UP volume button and power button until recovery screen pops up.
Ok, I did all of that perfectly and my phone is still booting with Omnirom. I want to put the phone back to stock. I understand that at this point the android_secure.img cant be fixed but before rooting I backed up with Kies so putting the phone back wont be hard. I want the stock rom back and unroot and be done with it.

Since you tried everything above and it didn't HELP..
I'm wondering have you tired the kies emergency firmware recover. I taught I screwed my phone up flashing a Odin file. Then the phone was stuck not doing anything. Couldn't boot up, nada.
But after running it thru that set up, the phone was back to completely stock...

Not sure if it'll help but worth a try right. It helped me when I was in need.

I did not know kies had a recovery option as I rarely use it. I did find a CWM stock rom but it has 4.1.2 but its working and I going to try an OTA 4.3 update and see what happens. It looks like I will manually have to restore everything which I was hoping to avoid but I thank you for your help.

I'm beyond lost of what you have done and where you're at.
Appears after doing the stuff in my post #4, your phone is booting past ATT screen ???? Understand it booted into OMNI, but at least it booted.
That's all I was trying to do was to get it past the ATT screen.
If I would have know you wanted to go back to stock 4.3, you could have done this....

You may still have too, if the OTA does not work from the CWM stock 4.1.2 ROM.
Whenever you flash ROMs rule of thumb is back up apps and anything else you want to save, with Titanium Backup or MyBackup, etc. etc. Then restore apps after new ROM is installed.
Doing a wipe/factory rest prevents residual crap from the previous ROM leftover.
Unless its an update to a ROM you already have running, and the OP says no worries, dirty flash.
69%+ of problems with ROM flashes is the flasher didn't follow instructions or half-a$$ed it and didn't wipe or factory reset.
I've been guilty of that also, so not trying to be combative or accusatory.
Good luck with OTA.
When I did the steps in post #4 it never did anything it stayed in omnirom, which I have not had a problem getting to boot. It doesn't boot when I restore from my backup created before I installed Omni with CWM. I don't like Omni and I am tired of everything root. I'm a heavy jail breaker and thought I could do this however its more learning than I wanted and want to be done with root entirely. The OTA update did fail. Should I still use the 4.3 rom above or is there something else I should that will also remove root? I did backup apps with titanium and I also backed up everything with Kies.
