Im trying to flash CWM via the app and it says it does not have access to those privileges. any help?

I have CWM on the phone SU everything is good, but rom manager will not download any roms and is telling me to instal CWM... confusing...
you dont have root access. google on how to obtain root access or alternatively,
go to bootloader mode
fastboot flash recovery <nameofrecovery>.img
find .img on google (clockwork recovery)
grrr i feel like a tard... i had to tell CWM i flashed it manually in the settings.

I did actually right before i read your reply, thank you tho! it disappears for some reason so i re flashed CWM after i downloaded my rom so i'm in there now and flashing CM... Ill let you know how it goes
Ive got my Rom on there, I have to keep flashing CWM tho idkw... but my rom is running anyhow. thanks for the help!
theres a file that keeps reflashing stock recovery.. search the forums on what it is, i forget. its something called install-recovery.sh or so i believe
edit: navigate to /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and rename to something else or delete it..... then reflash recovery, and it should stick

Why would you temp root? Why not just temp boot to recovery, flash the superuser zip, and then restart. You'll be rooted, and if you don't want CWM installed, since it is only temp flashed, it'll disappear as soon as you restart.

I'm just following the process for the 4.0.4 install. How else can i do what i need? I'm quite new to my Nexus, i had a bionic before.

If you are on stock 4.0.2 (ICL53F), download the 4.0.4 OTA update zip that is posted here somewhere and put it on the root of the internal sdcard. Restart your phone into recovery (should be stock recovery) and apply the update. It will verify the system and flash the update if everything checks out.
From there, if you want to be rooted too, download the superuser package from http://androidsu.com/superuser/ and put it on the internal sdcard (location doesn't matter). Use fastboot to temp boot to recovery, you'll need a custom recovery file for this (CWM, CWM Touch, TWRP, etc.). Run fastboot boot <recovery image file> and it will boot into recovery. Select the option to install a zip file, flash the superuser zip you downloaded, then restart and you should be on stock rooted.

I got into stock recovery and saw the android with the explanation point but when i click Volume up + power i get no menu...

Finally got the stock recovery to work, however it only allows flashing from ./cache and i cant get my update.zip to cache without root right?
So decided to just unlock bootloader and then it let me root and push to ./cache and then i flashed the update.zip
All seems to be working now.

Backstory: I successfully rooted and installed CWM following Mr. Robinson's directions, the OTA update came out and I installed it prior to the threads explaining how to keep root, so I'm back to being unrooted on UCLH9. I no longer have CWM working and no root.
I'd like to install CM10, I'd also like to backup my Apps with TiBu first but that's not the end of the world if I didn't. I'm assuming that I could simply follow Mr. Robinson's guide again effectively going back a revision but then I read that if I do so I may screw up TW if I don't factory wipe prior to doing so. I'm under the idea that if I can get CWM back on the G3 I'm good to go but getting it rooted now seems to be the difficult part.
I guess I'm a bit confused as to where I need to start. If I could basically get a step by step of which way to go that would be great.
If you are not worried about tripping the flash counter and using triangle away app (I use it all the time without problems) you can flash this tecovery: http://db.tt/QYcH2jBM with Odin, reboot into recovery and flash superuser. And to reset the flash counter use the triangleaway app.
So I still have Superuser installed from when I rooted previously, if I flash that version of CWM would the SU app I have start working again you think?
Also, so I don't screw this up, could you quick outline the steps in Odin? I assume it's similar to what I've done before, choose PDA mode, Auto Reboot and F.Time checked, select the recovery and flash?
The SU won't work until you update the binary or reflash it.

Any issues with simply following Mr. Robinson's guide again and reflashing the older firmware? Should I do a factory reset? Or should I simply wait for a LH9 root injected image?

I had a similar problem in that the wrong recovery appeared, 3e rather than something else. After about the third time (http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-r...gh-t999sgh-i747sph-l710-fail-proofnoob-proof/), I reread the directions and saw this:
"Q: I keep getting stock Android recovery instead of ClockworkMod Recovery!
A: After rooting, erase /system/recovery-from-boot.p and /system/etc/install-recovery.sh using ES File Explorer with Root and Write enabled. That will make CWM stick. This is due to newer software versions overwriting your stock recovery on reboot."
I followed the instructions and got CWM with "install from SD card" as an option and I am currently enjoying Slim Bean 2.6 on my i747.
Download http://db.tt/XfHZr7Yh go to Odin uncheck reboot, flash recovery. When reset message appears remove battery. Reinstall battery hold vol up home and power buttons to boot into recovery flash that file it will remove stock recovery, flash SU. This should work.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for that link. Unchecking auto-reboot and pulling the battery was the key! Rooted w/ CWM installed. CM10 here I come! Now all I need to do is decided on nightly or M2 when it drops...
Galaxy S3 from at&t, i rooted my phone as soon as got it several months ago, I've flashed colockwordmode 3 times in the last day or so and i cannot make to work, i followed the steps exactly as described, Odin is showing the green pass, the binary cont is increasing every time I've tried but i can't get the phone to start in recovery mode by holding volume up, home and power! it just reboot and turns the phone on or it goes into the Samsung recovery mode (blue screen). Very frustrating!, anyone can please help.
BTW, when i rooted my phone i installed clockwordmode then and it worked fine, i had not has to use it since, I'm running the stock ROM i want to flash another ROM, before i do that i need to use clockworkmode and that's when i realized that it was not working anymore, then tried to flash it 3 times but no success. I still have root.

This will happen until you load a custom rom I believe. Same thing happened to me then when I installed a rom it started being able to boot into cwm

flash recovery again in odin but make sure the "auto reboot" box is NOT checked. once its done flashing, unplug it and remove the battery for a second. replace the battery and immediately hold down vol up+home+power. this should take you into cwm if it flashed correctly
this could happen when you didn't root it properly
anyways, if you are rooted(as you said), get twrp and see

If you still have root, you might want to try installing CWM directly from your phone, using the dd terminal command to copy CWM into the right partition:
Download the latest CWM .img file from CWM's site: http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Put the file in your phone. For simplicity reason, I would suggest you put it in the root of your internal SD card. And because you will need to type the whole path+filename in the terminal in your phone, I would also suggest you rename the file to something simple, like cwm.img;
If you don't already have it, install Android Terminal Emulator;
Now, open the terminal emulator, and type the following commands:

dd if=/sdcard/cwm.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
(That is, if you rename the CWM file to "cwm.img" and you actually put it in the root of your internal SD card. If you put it somewhere else or did not rename your file, you will need to adapt the "if=" part of the command.)

Just curious: are you trying to flash CWM via Odin? If so where did you get it from? Did you install a botched version of stock recovery maybe (or one that is from another model of S3)? Try TWRP from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28019751&postcount=1. It is at the bottom of the post and it is labeled "Odin Flashable TWRP Recovery" under Miscellaneous files. Download and install via Odin.
And if you are on Jelly Bean, your flash counter will increment in your dealings with custom recoveries and roms. You only option at this point (if you have root still) is to get Triangle Away and run it in order to reset the counter. However, even if you clear your flash counter, if you go back into recovery it will trip again.

I'm still using stock ROM, i'd like to install a custom ROM but i'm reading that you have to have Clockworkmod to do a successful install.
When i check in the files of the phone (sd card) i can see the clockwordmod folder in there there but still can't get it to boot into cwm recovery, only the Samsung recovery and I've tried the volume up home and power button so many times but no success.
Why do you think it worked when i first rooted the phone and not now?

Yes I've tried 3 times via Odin, i can't remember where i got the cmw file from, it's a tar file (clockworkmod.TAR), the part i don't understand is why when i first rooted the phone in August cwm worked, i used it to install the root and now after trying to install it again 3 times i can't get it to work.
I'm using the stock ROM, not jelly bean.

I've tried it with "auto reboot" check and without but still no luck. Like i said it reboots in the Samsung rm.

Download goo manager app and open that. There will be an option to "install open recovery" in the menu. Voilà a superior recovery that's easier to use
You can even use it to boot into recovery or install the new update for it.

Easiest way to install TWRP is using GooManager from the Play Store.
1. Open GooManager.
2. Press the menu key to open the contextual menu, and select Install OpenRecoveryScript.
3. The app will ask you to confirm you really want to install a new recovery image.
4. GooManager searches for the correct TWRP build for your device. Look at the Filename line, it should display openrecovery-twrp-2.4.1.0-d2att.img for AT&T or openrecovery-twrp-2.4.1.0-d2can.img for Rogers/Bell/Telus. Again, confirm the installation.
5. Wait for the download to begin. TWRP will install. Done.
If it does not work or if GooManager does not find the correct build for your device -- in this latter case, this should raise a flag for you, as you may not have a SGH-i747/SGH-i747M; double check your phone model --, you can always install TWRP manually. From TWRP website (http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2), you can grab the IMG file to manually install from the terminal emulator, and a TAR file to install using ODIN.

So if that's the case (This will happen until you load a custom ROM) how can i back up my stuff before installing a new ROM? that's the reason i was trying to make cwm work so i could back my stuff.
Is there a different way to do a full back up?

if you have root, download Rom Manager and install cwm from the menu.
i've also heard that, if rooted, you can erase /system/recovery-from-boot.p and /system/etc/install-recovery.sh (using ES File Explorer or Root Explorer) an that will make cwmstick. this is due to newer software versions overwriting your stock recovery on reboot.

By installing cwm from the app store (ROM manger) will i get the same back up as i would with Odin install of cwm, in other words do i risk loosing my back up ROM using "ROM manager?"

you've created a backup already? if not, install cwm from ROM Manager, boot into cwm recovery and make your nandroid there. then you'll be all set to to try a new ROM
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I have a acer iconia a100 rooted and currently running the carbon rom (4.2.2) and twrp recovery (2.6.3.0). I would like to go back to stock rom (ICS). I have not changed any kernals or anything like that. Can I just restore my nandroid backup of my stock rom or is there something specific I have to do? Also, I just looked and I dont have a stock backup with twrp, only with cwm. When I unlocked bootloader, I installed cwm, then must have done a backup of stock rom, then flashed carbon rom, then switched to twrp and made another backup so I would have to go back to cwm to restore nandroid. How do I go back to cwm from twrp?? Thanks for the feedback.
I looked in my internal storage and it looks like I have 2 zips, fastbootrecovery.zip and xsposeddisabler-cwm.zip, do I flash one of these?? and if I do, can I do it with es explorer?? Thanks

Just the stock ROM or completely back to stock, 100%?
If you don't know what those zips are, or how to use them, then don't use them, period.
To get back cwm you can use fastboot to flash it back on or use one of the cwm installers in development, if any are still there, if you want to do it with fastboot you'll need some stuff to get ready, most of it should be there from when you rooted the first time, then a couple lines in a command prompt and you'll have it back. There's also stock rooted ICS ROMs available, so depending on what you want we can go from there.

I am going to sell my tablet so I would like to go to my backup of my stock rom. When I restore my stock backup, I can just do a full wipe, that will get me back to the starting point of just the basic rom, right?? That will wipe all my data from the backup rom, or will a full wipe erase the rom too?? I want to get back to the basic rom (just like if I install a new rom) have to set up accounts, wifi, etc).
Also, is there a tutorial or a step by step guide to reinstall cwm back on my tablet, since my stock rom was backed up with cwm? And where do I have the files to reflash cwm. Thanks for your assistance in helping me return my tablet to the state I want.

I found a site that has it step by step, installing cwm. Here it is.
Here it is guys, Stock CWM Recovery for the ACER A100.
Before anything make sure you have the latest ICS leak C/O Vache, Root, and Unlocked Bootloader.

But it says make sure you have the latest ics leak?? Are they refferring to the rom?? If so, I currently have carbon rom istalled which is jellybean. This will not work then?? I am a little confused and any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

But it says make sure you have the latest ics leak?? Are they refferring to the rom?? If so, I currently have carbon rom istalled which is jellybean. This will not work then?? I am a little confused and any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Well, before the tab got official ICS, we had a leak. If you had read down the topics some you would've found it. You do not want cwm, you want twrp.

I need cwm to restore my stock rom. If I use the steps quoted below to reinstall cwm, will I run into any problems since I'm coing from carbon rom (jellybean) to stock rom which is (ICS)?

To just go back to stock to sell it you'll run into a couple issues coming from 4.2+, namely the storage path changes, you'll retain the /0 folders, however many were made. Otherwise following the guide that roman made will work to go back to 100% stock, I'll see if I can get a link, I'm in a waiting room with crappy data lol

That guide will work for installing cwm, basically get your cwm image then get fastboot going, fastboot flash recovery cwmimageyougot.IMG

Best way to return to 100% stock. No need to fuss with recoveries just install what he says then the ROM does the rest. While in twrp remember to go delete /0 directories or they'll remain there forever. Or until its deleted at a later date, but if you have stuff in there you should do it prior to going fully stock again.

Thanks for the response, youve fully confused me with the /0 folders?? What exactly is that?? When I go to es file explorer, I see sdcard0 (which looks like the internal storage) and sd01 which looks like my ext sd card. Is it one of those your are talking about??
Also, you said something about go delete in twrp, I went into twrp and did not find anything with that name?? am I deleteing something in twrp. Could you spell it out for me since I am a noob when it comes to reverting a device to stock. Thanks for taking the time to explain this.

that is something happening with cwm. i had this problem. it keeps creating a folder names 0 and keep moving old files into that whenever you install a new rom.
Hello guys. I need your feedback. I have a A100 that is rooted and is currently running carbon rom 4.2. I am going to be selling this in the next couple weeks because I just don't use it anymore now that I have a second pc.Do you think it would be more advantagious to sell this just the way it is (rooted and custom rom) or should I take it back to completely stock? Or if it is more advantagious to sell it with a custom rom, which rom would you guys suggest?? Thanks again for any and all suggestions.
Please Help!! I was trying to go to stock ics and these are the steps I used.The simple method to revert back to stock ICS from a custom ROM on an A100.
+++Locked bootloader, no custom recovery, no root. Full stock .014 rom. It will recieve OTA updates to latest Acer version.+++
Get Ready
1) Download this flashable Stock recovery zip, and place in your normal flashing location, - Thx 4 help pio

2) Download the Official .014 Stock ICS rom

3) Rename the Stock ICS rom to "update.zip", no quotes (make sure you have "hide known file extensions" UNCHECKED, in the folder options). And place it on the root of your microSD card. This will allow you to see the file extension to verify that it is named properly.
Get it Done
1) Flash the Stock recovery zip with your custom recovery. Then wipe cache, davlik cache, and wipe data/factory reset.
2) Reboot to system.
3) Allow it to sit for 5 minutes or so.
4) Then Power off.
5) Update from the microSD card by holding down the power and volume rocker closest to the corner at the same time, until you see "erasing cache .".. ect, ect. The stock rom install should start by itself, dont touch anything, wait for it to reboot.

Now I get the android symbol with the red triangle, that stays for about a minute, then it reboots and stays on thye acer screen. When I did the steps and was going to reboot, I received a waring while in recovery sayiny that I dont have a op installed. I did it anyway, as posted and now I'm stuck, can anyone PLEASE help me.I tried doing a reset with steps 2 though 4 but while pressing the vol up and letting go of the power button, it does not vibrate.
I try to boot into recovery with vol up + power, it boots than says erasing cache, then booting into recovery, the the android synbol comes up with the red triangle.
I can't even get into recovery. It says bootloader (unlock mode) when I pwer it on. If I press power + vol up, it says erasing cache, then booting into recovery kernal, then the android symbol comes up with the red triangle.Thanks for responding and since this is the wrong thread, can we discuss this in the other thread?? While I was typing this, the android symbol with the triangle was on the screen for about 2 minutes, then it just rebooted and now its saying acer acer acer acer acer on the bottom of the screen.
Can anyone help me out with this please?
