Hi all,
Looking for some help with my Galaxy Nexus (on Sprint) that I'm planning to purchase used on ebay...
Would it be possible for me to unlock it and then use it in the UK with O2, utilizing 2G and 3G properly?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT:: I understand the Sprint Galaxy Nexus is only available in LTE? Does this mean I cannot use it unless on 3G?

No. It means you can't use it at all. It's CDMA not GSM.

Could I use it if I were to purchase a non-Sprint handset? For example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...1192709655?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item3a7c409217
Same thing. You need a GSM GNex (Maguro)
Ok, thanks for your help.

The VZW nexus is for CDMA networks. I am pretty sure you cannot use it on GSM networks...
NIB is "New in Box" and NR is "No Reserve"
No, it will only work on Verizon.

The verizon phone has CDMA 1x/3G radios and a 700mhz LTE radio.
Unless you can use those bads, the verizon version is no good for you. You need the GSM version, look around online for the best price.
Dear Friends,
I am currently on Verizon Network and planning to upgrade my phone to Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
The problem is I am leaving to India in a couple of weeks and I will be staying in India for 3 months. During these 3 months I want to use Nexus with an Indian CDMA carrier.
1)My question is - can i use the Nexus with an Indian Carrier? If yes I guess i need to unlock my device.
2)Can someone help me with the information of how to unlock the Galaxy Nexus. It would be wonderful if someone can guide me with this.
3)If I unlock the phone will I have any problem using my phone with Verizon when I return to US after 3 months?
Really appreciate your help folks

Does india have any cdma carriers? I thought not.

Well that's not true. It is possible, but not plausible. It requires you to completely re-flash the phone to a different carrier's network, and then have the carrier accept a device with an ESN not in their system, which at best is a long-shot combination.
So, it could work, but it probably won't. And it isn't really worth the hassle.

I was under the same impression.
OP, you should pick up a GSM phone for your travels and save yourself the trouble. Leave your Nexus in a safe place at home with the battery left at about 65% charge and the phone off
thank you very much guys for your replies
there is cdma network in india- Reliance Communications
Just trade it for a gsm one

To be clear - Verizon stores even the CDMA subscriber information on the SIM for LTE phones. So if there is a provider in India that uses CDMA SIM cards (rare, but I know they use them in China) you might be able to get this working.
Or you could get a GSM/HSPA phone to use on your trip

I bought Galaxy Nexus from somewhere else. It was unlocked. So i am not sure if it supports LTE over Fido or not. I was thinking to request for LTE sim but wanted to confirm if my phone even supports it or not.
I do see H+ on my signal bar but i believe LTE is different. Can someone tell me any way to confirm if the device supports LTE or not. (without connecting to LTE network)
It's really simple.
If it is a gsm phone it does not have lte

Turn the phone off then remove the battery and read the label where the battery goes and if it reads GT-i9250 or GT-i950M it will not support LTE.

AFAIK the only LTE gNex are for Verizon & Sprint (CDMA in the US). If you look at Setting >> About Phone >> Baseband * it starts out I9250 it's the GSM model

Thats a more discrete answer
Model Number: GT-I9250
GT-i9250 "Maguro": GSM/HSPA+ variant. Features support for both AT&T's and T-Mobile's HSPA+ bands in the United States. This particular variant is currently sold SIM-unlocked by Google in the Play Store
Thanks though

Not that i like and want bash you, but can't you understand simple English?
I assume you understand English since you're from Canada.. If you don't understand English, then fine, i take back my words.
And a simple Google search would answer your question..

the "Baseband version " on my nexus 5 shows "M8974A-", does it support lte in US? It's an international unlocked version cell phone, and AFAIK, all the international version phones DONT support lte in US, is that real?
Hey everyone, sorry in advance if this was already asked. I did a search and didn't find anything. I'm also sorry if this is the wrong forum.
I have a Galaxy Nexus from Verizon and am absolutely beyond done with them and contact services in general. Can my Verizon GNex work on another carrier? Which carriers will it work on? I know T-Mobile and other GSM carriers are out buy my knowledge of CDMA and if it's a single standard like GSM or if there are different flavors of CDMA is lacking.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated
Any CDMA should do the work, but to get it working it's different to just SIM-unlock your device like in GSM devices, If you're in the US, I believe Verizon and Sprint are the only CDMA compatible carriers.

My understanding is that the new Sprint phones operate on GSM and CDMA. There's more to it than just that though. Each company operates on different frequencies and sprints new phones operate in 3 different bands so you'd probably lose out on coverage even if you could connect to some of the bands.
