So I finally found an app that kills the Note II's battery
Yesterday the Play Store notified me of an update to the AT&T Locker app (their version of dropbox and the like). I had never used the app, but updated it nonetheless to avoid seeing the notification in the Play Store. Big mistake! Battery usage went way up, and indeed it was the #2 item in the Battery page, right after the Screen itself. Again, I had not even set up an account with AT&T locker...
Anyway, I rolled back the update (by "uninstalling" in the Play store; because it's a system app, you can't really remove it) and am now recharging. Hopefully this will at least solve the batteyr issue, though I will still get the notification to update.
I know that I can remove that app (or freeze it) if I root, but I'm still within my return period and trying to make up my mind, so I'd rather not root yet. Are there any alternatives that do not involve root? Or, at least, ways to ensure that the Locker app does not suck up so much power?
Thanks!
Settings -> application manager -> locker -> disable
I've done that for most of the bloat

Never mind. You have to uninstall the updates. Then the Disable button appears.

Yep, works for me too. I also disabled AT&T Navigator. Thanks!

I was able to hide notifications through this..... that's what I was trying to find.

I like the new feature of ICS that allows you to disable apps. I used it immediately to remove the VZW bloatware that was pre installed (back up assistant).
But I may of taken it a step too far. I disabled the default calculator app ( just happen to like realcalc better). When I did that it screwed up my calendar. All of my events were MIA. Luckily I caught it before I did anything else and couldn't pinpoint the problem. - undisabled the calculator and every thing went back to normal.
So, like it says in the warning use caution when disabling system apps. And hopefully my little boo boo helps some one else out.
Anyone else disable a app and notice any strange or unexpected results???

I disabled Books, Vz backup, and phone (I'm using another dialer). So far no issues.
I also used autostarts to keep a few other apps from starting automatically all the time.

And also thanks to psohn, going to try autostarts.
Two Google apps -- Play Books and Play Movies & TV -- keeping returning from the land of the frozen. I go back into TB Pro and refreeze, and within a couple of days at most they are back. All the other Google apps I've frozen remain so. Is there something else on the list I also need to freeze?
When I disable them in app manager they come back after a reboot as well. I think its tied to the play store or something that keeps activating them.

I checked on Play and on app manager for auto update option and don't see one. Odd that only these two are persistent despite freezing. I have the feeling there's another item on TB that needs freezing as well to fix this.
I got sick of this and since I do not want nor need them, I just deleted them

Ah, the more brutal approach. If that worked, and you have no regrets or issues as a result, that seems my only course of action as well.
Why you bother to freeze them or delete? It's part of former Google Market. Do.'t see benefit from deleting it. Can you share your thoughts?

Basically, I have four pages of icons under apps, and many of them are for services I have no interest in and will never use. I'm not trying to save space...I think there's 11 GB free, but I find the clutter off-putting.
Not sure I understand the part about Google Market. Play is just the same thing renamed, isn't it? Plus new look and feel.
Anyway, just de-cluttering the UI.
Yup it comes back now.. Use menu - > hide applications or you can stick them all in one folder and hide just that folder

Hey all. I just got the phone yesterday and am loving it btw. I liked using the LG keyboard and having the extra row on top with the numbers. However, after messing with it for a while, that disappeared and it started to say each letter out loud and most of the options are greyed out as seen in the screen shot. The only thing I have found in searching that might have caused it is trying out light flow lite. Has anyone else experienced this or know a way to fix it?

Yes light flow and other apps seems to trigger the talkback feature even though its says its off. The solution I found is to go into setting then apps find the talk back app and uninstall it. Then all that will stop. If you ever need it again you can just install it again. I notice this only happen with LG keyboard. Other 3rd party keyboards are fine

That did it. Thank you so much! However, it worked to simply disable the Talkback app instead of actually uninstalling (it didn't have that as an option since it's a system app). Everything is good now!

There is no option there. Only a force stop option, but I believe that once you reboot your device the app is again active.

Is there anyway to modify the built in App killer.. (when you hold the home button and press the garbage can) to where when you kill apps it doesn't kill certain ones?
Thanks!

Yeah when you hold the home button and those apps come up, just slide the ones you want killed off the screen.

There's not a way from what I've seen to be able to ignore certain apps using the default one. Your probably going to need to use a 3rdparty app and just whitelist some apps. I believe battery docotor let's you do it. And you can probably try advanced task killer or even fast reboot. You might just need to spend a good few minutes on the play store and find one that works the way you want.
Can I suggest Greenify, it hibernates the apps and are instantly available when you call on them. Then you do not have to worry about which apps are left running in the background.

The only 3rd party app that's good is greenify.

I was going to make my own thread but I figured I'd just post on this one. What about having the aosp app switcher/killer (whatever it's called, the thing cbass15 asked about) on a tw rom?
I've noticed so many aosp features on tw now I'm starting to feel greedy but I just wanted to know if it was possible

I'm sure a good dev will figure out a way to get rid of it / replace it with Google now. Otherwise I got rid of the home button shortcut.

I almost did too but it's a pretty cool app and I use it quite a bit. My wife has a Groupon account so I look in My Magazine for Groupon deals.
