Look for a dual 2A charger instead. The ones I've seen say that they do 1A when both ports are used. You won't hurt anything if you use just one. Devices only draw as much amperage as they need.

Oops yea thats what I meant. Does anyone know of any of those?

You can try an adapter like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0083C0Z66/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1354430668&sr=8-1&pi=SL75 I used to have a different brand in my old car and I just hid behind dash and ran usb cables to convenient location for charging.

Thank you

It does 1Ax2?

Yeah there are a few of these splitter chargers that do 1Ax2

Do you know of any that do for sure?

The one I linked above says it does

I bought two of these to use with my existing usb cables and wall chargers. It works great for both charging and file transfering.

there is no "right" output
most usb ports will charge up to 500mA
the stock usb wall charger is, i think 750mA, i havent looked at it in awhile since its behind my desk, but i know its not 1A
the oem nexus one wall charger (non usb) will charge up to 1A
I would only recommend a 1A charger because there's no point to use a lower amperage, it just takes that much longer to charge your phone.
Couple of good threads on this topic, both on the vibrant and the i9000 acessories thread. Lots of good info. The deal extreme chargers look promising. Waiting to hear from a person who bought a 2amp charger if the extra 1a is used by the phone especially when using gps.

well, my phone will still charge (slowly) while watching avatar, which i would assume is a pretty high load on the cpu, using the 1amp charger i got from dealextreme.
fwiw, the one i have is a 1A "HTC" wall charger thats square and lights up HTC when charging, it ****s up my screen sensitivity so i wouldnt recommend it, but it was only like four dollars so i'll live with it.

AC charger or car charger?
The charger does not dictate the amount of current given to the phone. The phone will only draw what it wants to. The charger can limit the maximum current but if the phone only asks for 700mA, a 2A charger will only provide the 700mA demanded by the phone.
I don't know what the max current our phones will use but having a larger charger will only help if the phone requests the larger current.

I'm not sure how stressful watching Avatar is from a current draw perspective. The torture test is to turn on 3G, Bluetooth, synch, GPS and run the Navigation app while driving. Some post indicate that only a true 2A charger will be able to do this w/o discharging the battery. 1A ones can only limit the discharge. Cheap ones empty quickly.
Could you check what your charge current file value is for your 1A DE charger? Make sure to use the original Samsung cable and cross check with the original Samsung charger and a USB port.
1) Use an application like ES File Manager or Astro Filemanager
2) /sys/class/power_supply/battery/batt_chg_current
Here are the 2 threads that I've found have a lot of charger info.

i checked the file when using the HTC cable plugged into my work dell and it said 850-860 after checking a a dozen times
plugged into the wall charger now and its around 700-750
is that supposed to be reporting in mA?

Yes, but I haven't heard that anyone has measured it. The numbers you are getting are consistent with what others have see. 800-900 for USB. The original Samsung 700mA charger is getting 900-1100.
If you have another Android phone try that one as well to see the differences (e.g. G1 ~300-400).

Thanks a lot.
ANY charger that puts out 1000mA will work with it. Motorola makes "travel" wall chargers that sometimes go on sale for a buck, and have the plug folding into them so it takes less space in a bag. As long as it has a micro-USB plug or takes your USB cable, it will work, does not have to be specific for the phone.
The whole idea of microUSB chargers is part of a larger EU plan to allow for standard chargers with microUSB tips, so you can replace your cell phone but "never" have to replace the wall wart for it.
Just check the power output, most of the Motorola chargers put out 1000mA now because some phones with big batteries (like the Atrix) can use that power to charger quickly. Lower power rating, longer charge times.
You read my mind,
It was just the info I wanted to know.
Thanks.
Bear in mind though, not all micro usb chargers work on atrix. I have a few that dont work but work fine on my other stuff. Im not sure why though. I have an external battery that worked with my nexus one but not my atrix.
I voided my warranty.

The one that comes with the phone in the US is 800ma actually. But as you said, 1000ma would charge it faster.
My atrix charger died so I'm currently using a blackberry charger with 750ma output. The iphone charger works too but it's a slower charge.
Whaddayaknow. The one supplied with my phone says 850mA, the one supplied with my bt earbud is 1000mA. Maybe someone at Motorola is paying attention to profits.<G>
But this is all part of why he industry is moving to standard chargers and why "all" standard chargers should work with standard phones. If a charger doesn't work with this phone, odds are it is too low power or simply a cheap piece of Chinese quality control which has one or more broken contacts in it.
I've gotten USB cables that have the same problem, charge or data not both. that isn't by design but at least one of the four wires in them was broken. Cheap cables is cheap cables--and I've seen cheap cables shipped as OEM from brand names.
Like cables from WD and possibly Moto that have the USB log on the wrong side of the plug--which means they are not entitled to use the logo at all, and the maker does not understand the USB spec.
If you live near a hotel, walk in and say that you left your phone charger in one of the rooms. They usually have boxes of forgotten chargers.
Thanks all for your help.
I started using lg micro USB charger which gives 700 ma.
Will get original one as well.
Thanks again.

[Q] USB Cables for Note II

Can anyone point me in the direction of cables to get that will actually charge up my Note II using 2.0A? The cables I've found will at most only charge at 1.0 A and I was wondering if anyone had any actual cables (like the OEM that came with the Note II) that they could recommend?
I don't want to short out the cables myself.
Also wondering if there's some sort of App that would allow me to force my phone to charge as though it was always on AC power. I'm not rooted.
Any info would be great, thanks.

Yes I charge at 2 amps. It's the actual charger/brick/plug not the cable that pumps the amps. Not only do I charge at 2 amps but I also get good data speeds. Monoprice sells great stuff at great prices. If you can find REAL OEM equipment at a good price I would suggest you get it but if not give them a try.

That's not exactly true. The cable plays a part in how much of the current gets sent to the phone. That's why a lot of the times you have to short the cable so that it reads as a charger and not a data plug.

Well I've been using smartphones for over 10 years and I've never had to short a cable to get it to read as anything other than what it was. Just my guess, if you have to purposely short a cable to get it to work right, you probably have the wrong cable. I use these cables all the time and my phone charges just fine with no shorting. Now I am using the brick that came with my Note II and I use the brick that came with my Galaxy Tab 2 7 when at work, which also charges at 2 amps. The reason why I buy so many of them is because the cord is a lot heavier than the OEM ones and the added weight sometimes makes the connector loose. But Monoprice has a lifetime warranty on all their products and a easy return policy so if a couple do fail over time it costs you nothing to get a replacement.

Yeah, there are several threads about this as most USB cables are designed to read as data cables and therefore do not give you the maximum current for charging. Most people short out two pins to make it read as a charging cable. That's why I posted the thread looking for cables that are already designed as charging cables and not data cables. They're pretty difficult to sort through. Thanks for the links.

i have a question related to charging. first i will say that i have previously used any charger micro-USB fast or slow cheap or quality and never had an issue whether the phone had fast or not etc..
so my question is with USB C being the next thing in adapters and now my laptop has a few of them can all things USB C be plugged into all chargers with USB C? for example my laptop is USB C and what happens if you plug that into your Pixel?
Thanks
I prefer anker, they make good quality stuff at an affordable price.
I don't worry about the spreadsheet and I have no issues. I don't get the cheapo $5 chargers I stick with reputable brands. I appreciate what he's doing but the lists are very confusing. I've read so much conflicting in for about what's safe and what's not.. Some say ALL USB C to C cables are fine and there is nothing to check. Some say you do have to worry about them though.
Some say you can use micro USB adapters with old micro USB cables and not worry.. Some say you have to worry.
None of it makes sense so I don't bother. I think it will be fine

I feel the same way. I tried reading all the articles and it confused me more than anything. Such as the one you buy from Verizon the cord is supposedly junk and it doesn't charge properly....
The way I see it is if the charger is charging properly and the phone isn't running hot, then you should be good to go....
I'm using my Anker Qualcomm quick charger 3 car charger with decent success. It's probably not charging as fast as possible for this device but it works.
I have a Choetech type C charger at work and also a RavPower type C ac adapter which came with my Ravpower QC3.0 USB power bank. Both works flawlessly.

USB type C cables and chargers

This will be my first usb type c device. I'm sure a lot of you are upgrading from the original pixel. Can you guys recommend cables and chargers that you have used that you liked? I'm sure there are a bunch of people in my situation it can help to stock up on this stuff before the phone comes. And yes I know there is a list of approved cables, etc.
I'd look at Anker or Aukey for chargers. They should have a couple PD-2 chargers. They also sell the required cables.
The Pixel 2 XL will come with cables and a charger in the box though.

I would never get a cheap Chinese/no name version. From what I've read, if it doesn't have a 56ohm resistor, it has damaged phones.
You can also check on Amazon and read reviews from those who have purchased. Not worth saving a few bucks to potentially damage your $900+ phone.

If its OEM, I don't think there will be any issues. I'm sure people may have multiple USB-C items and I'm sure these news outlet and reviewers have multiple USB-C cables and plugs that they just use the same one over and over.
DO not get any usb c cable/charger so many of them don't follow the standards
Only get one that has been tested

in worst case can damage the phone or explode

As far as I can tell, Benson Leung finds issues with every Aukey product he reviews. I'm contemplating the BlitzWolf BW-S10, as I've had no issues with the BW-S5 or BW-CB3, and their reputation appears to be clean. The supplied cable is USB-C to USB-C, right?
