Leaving for Galaxy Note!...

Hey guys, so I got an amazing deal that i just can't pass up: int'l note plus $25 for my white tmo gs2. I just have some questions though.
Do you guys think that it is worth it. not the value (i kno its a great deal) btu i'm talking performance.
Will i get 4g or just edge?

You'll only get edge until T-Mobile refarms the 1900MHz band. There's a dev called bedwa who is working on unlocking the 1700MHz band. Yes, it has it but Samsung has it locked up. The phone has the same modem as the Galaxy Nexus which is pentaband.

I personally think the phone is a bit too big but not a bad upgrade. I would do it for only $25 but no edge.

Yep I'm getting the $25. I'd like to hear more about the band unlcok thing. Anyone have more info on that? The main thing I am excited for though is that it has like 5 ics roms

If this works out, I'll most likely ditch the Galaxy Nexus. There's plenty of people who'll call foul for wanting to move over to an "inferior" device but I'd love more screen real estate with increased battery life.

I have both the t989 sgs2 and the international note on T-Mobile. You will most definitely get edge speeds. I suggest u switch to at&t or a prepaid carrier who uses at&t network such as straight talk or red pocket mobile

If I dont like the note, then I will probably trade it in Craigslist for gnex plus cash. But the note has the exynos chip set at 1.4 ghz while the nexus is ti omap at 1.2 I have used the nexus and found it to be quite laggy and the screen did nit look that much bigger than the gs2 I currently have. Plus the note already has ics roms

Just picked it up and I have to say that I miss the gs2. I got the phone rooted with a from with some bugs so I guess that I will have to put it on stock adlnd then give the phone another chance. Love the screen though

Theres not much of a difference between our phone and the Note other than the screen. Hardware stuff of course but still running the same stuff.

The only thing stopping me from getting the note is no 4G on tmobile. Once you're used to 4G, there's no used to going back to 56k aka edge

S3! Lol. The note is bigger than the S3 but I'm more than happy with the size and capability with my S3.

Its a tough choice. My buddy as an att note and it is really cool. Definitely an attention getter. But the s3 is going to be top dog for a while and should have some awesome development for it. Check both out and get the one that fits you best.

For me, the S3 isn't enough to leave my S2, especially with the price drop of the GNex AND the new nexus devices that will be released shortly, AND the other new phones that will be released shortly as well.
The TMo Note? That depends. Is it based on the Note 2 that will he released shortly, or is it based on the previous Note, putting it behind in rom development and basically another S2 type situation?
The TMo S2 was released so late that development was very, very slow and I see the TMo Note possibly having the same problem.
I DO like the Note, and would have gotten it in Feb had it been available on TMo then. But 5 months later? I'm gonna wait and see what else is coming along.

Would the Gnex be a good choice out of contract? I have to replace my samsung galaxy s2 because it had a carrier block from Tmobile (bought from craigslist). I just can't shell out >$600 but the Gnex is pretty cheap relatively.

The GNex is a great deal right now. I'm debating getting it as well, but am trying to hold off to see what the Nexus line is going to be like this year. The price will either stay steady, or continue to go down, so there is no drawback to waiting (unless you wait until a point where it's no longer made and out of stock, that is).
The only real drawbacks are it's last years Nexus, with new models a few months away, and the lack of SD card expansion (Google seems to have done away with that on their developer phones, but we'll see if that continues with the next series of Nexus phones).
However, it's guaranteed to get Jellybean (next month, confirmed), and will most likely get next year's update as well.
BTW, I'm only talking about the GSM GNexus. I don't even consider the Verizon version a Nexus device.

Well I thought about the Gnex for a while and decided that I wouldn't ever get it. I mean sure its got the curved and high resolution display, but its lacking key features like a micro SD card. And in actuality it will be more expensive for me to get the Gnex. So...I'm most likely going to go with the Galaxy S III but thanks for the suggestions!

I for one am going to wait til sept-oct too see the note 2 with a 5.5 screen. Which is also around the iphone 5 is set to release which will also means other goodies samsung and other companies will release to go head to head with it. I see no real reason to upgrade now and then want to upgrade again in just a few months, that's unless you have the money to burn like that.

Simply put, Verizon got their dirty paws on it. Came without Wallet (although it was able to be sideloaded), had some Verizon bloatware, and updates have been a nightmare for users (took months after ICS updates were released for Verizon GNex users to receive them). In fact, Google has since dropped support for it as a Nexus device (CDMA is a dead technology).

Should i trade it?

a guy is offering me a galaxy nexus GSM plus a Nexus 7 8GB for my Tmobile galaxy s3 32GB . What are your thoughts on this should i do it? I dont have a tablet and i like the stock google but the new galaxy nexus is coming out soon. What do you guys think?

Would you rather a phone or a phone and tablet? That's your answer.

Don't do it man. LOL. I had the nexus prior to me getting the S3 and I love the S3 soooooo much more. The Nexus isnt a bad phone by any means, but speaking from somebody that had both, I think it's a step backwards. You can always flash a JB rom on the S3 and get your pure google fix. I had a chance to mess around with the Nexus 7 and I must say it is a pretty nice tablet. But overall IMO I think S3 wins hands down.

It comes with 3 batteries and 7 screen protectors and they both have cases idk I really want that tablet but if I won't be able to sell it for a good price

Why are you listening to people on the internet? Do YOU want a phone that runs AOSP JB and will get the next android version before all of the others AND a tablet, or do you want a slightly better phone that may or may not see the next version of android and no tablet?

I would do it. At worse you can resell the tablet and the phone. I have both and they are great.

t-mobiles website has the 32gb S3 with no contract for $680... it'll be cheaper from other places, obviously

The S3 off contract goes for less than 500 on Craigslist.
Sounds like a pretty fair trade to me.

i bougt my s3 for 460 hes gonna give me 40 seems good to me as long as he doesnt scam me which will be pretty hard to do

Be hard to passs on a vanilla Android with the fastest updates and a full fledge tablet. I'd say go for it as well.

My Samsung Galaxy Nexus is on the way!
I can't wait, since this will be my first smart phone. Although I have had Android tablets for a couple of years and I have a Nexus 7 16GB (which I love) I have always had a simple phone (w/camera)
Since I enjoy the NEXUS experience, I wanted my first smart phone to be a Nexus.
I am new to this forum (but not to the XDA Forums) and I look forward to posting/commenting here too.

Thanks everyone for "Raining on my parade".
I need to stay on Verizon. Because If i change/drop my phone from Verizon, our family plan loses it's UNLIMITED.
Plus I would NEVER buy an 8GB only phone. (WTF were they thinking about that?)

Remember to turn off sync and LTE when not using it, it sucks battery like no body's business, unless you're OK with 2h+ screen time.

Not for the same price. And S3 or One X will not receive 4.2 at the same time (including proprietary binaries). They'll receive a port eventually but by the time I already digged 4.2 completely :laugh:

GNex is a great choice... $50 vs $200 for practically the same thing. A slightly bigger screen, 2GB of RAM (which is totally unnecessary), Dual-Core (since it's from Verizon)... To me, GNex is the best deal on the market (or so it was, until the Nexus 4 came out - but lets not talk about that).

You made a fantastic choice. I love my GNex, like I said before. Trust me, your going to love it and have loads of fun toying around with it. First thing I did was Unlock the bootloader and start flashing. xD Not to mention your guaranteed future updates since it's a "Nexus" device.

[Q] Best Verizon option for Nexus lover

I have a GSM G-Nex and love it, as well as my $30 T-Mobile plan. Unfortunately for some weird family plan related reasons I may grudgingly go Verizon. The only phone I have had my eye on as of late is the Nexus 4, but that is not an option. What is a good alternative? I like big screens, and up to date software, and I usually flash custom ROMs from this wonderful site anyway. (only running stock right now because 4.2 is really nice, great on my battery).

Gnex, gs3, or wait a week and check out the new HTC coming out.

Droid DNA, GS3, & Note 2 seem cool. Verizon G-Nex could probably be had for very cheap though. I hope I can just adjust their family plan and not have to join. I went prepaid because I had to, but now I really really don't want to go back to contract/locked-phone land!

I like the Note 2, if the bootloader gets unlocked I think I will be jumping on that one.
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised to see the Nexus 4 eventually hit VZW, but who knows.

Ended up putting off switching until my GNex died a violent death. The Moto X has been a worthy successor thus far, 3 days in.
