so my galaxy note 2 is with me for more than a month now and ever since i got it when i press the power button to wake up the device ( at least some times ) it takes 1-3 sec to wake and some other times its quick and responsive , its really annoying .. you know some times you are in a hurry and u want to write a number or something or you want to show-off to your friends and it disappoint you with the delay to wake up
is there some thing to do with the ROM or is there an app or some touchwiz things that prevent the device from waking up instantly or its a hardware thing
and here is a vid

If the device is taking 1-2 seconds to wake up then it's NORMAL. Rather you should be happy because the unit is having perfect deep sleep. When you see instant wake up you should know that something is running on background. Again, this is COMPLETELY NORMAL.
Some Nexus people say that they don't notice any lag, well I don't own a Nexus (don't like them), so I don't give a damn.

I am not experiencing this.
Anyway if it has to do with deep sleep you could use wake my droid app
No pal. The fix will be to keep something running on background, lol, anything that violates deep sleep will make the phone to wake up instantly. But then you know how much battery drain will occur.
So, the only solution is, get used with it.

Is how exynos quad core chips work. . Deep sleep to conserve battery... takes times for the cores to get worked up ..get used to it and enjoy the battery. .its a small annoyance

You could try to change something in the developer option as per the pic attached. Hope it could help. I have changed somethings in this funtion and disable the opening Svoice by home button. Now not any delay when pressing the home button any more

hi everbody,
i had the same issue (wake up lag) on my note 2, plus i have a strange thing too: when i install an application from market and return to home, touchwiz was always crashing..
i disabled popup note and ripple effect on lockscreen, disabled svoice and everything else i found on the internet, but nothing helped..
then i discovered samething really strange:
i was keepin the application "google play store" in a folder. when i get it out of the folder and placed directly on one of the screens, everything chanced.. no wake up lag, no crashes..
i hope it will help everone who is not satisfied from other solutions.
I'm sorry, but I can't see how that could possibly be a solution.
Lol. i tried it anyway.. to make sure. No change in wake up lag.
No. It doesn't fix the issue. I always had market out of any folder but still had that lag.

This helps. Don't forget to reboot.
This doesnt make any sence but I tried it as well. No dice.

No, that doesn't help. The problem is a hardware problem and will take an intricate solution from Samsung or a crafty dev, if there is a solution at all.
If it's true that the magical sleep mode the note goes in to causes the lag, yet contributes to the awesome battery life I get.. honestly, I'll take the lag.
It's something to do with the Exynos. I had both the AT&T Galaxy S III and the Internation i9300 SIII. The US version had much quicker wakeup times vs. the US version with the Snapdragon processor. It used to drive me crazy, but it's gotten to the point where it doesn't bother me. After living with the Note, International SIII, and now the Note II. That tiny second or so delay hasn't made my life any worse. I'd take the Exynos, better DAC, GPU, etc any day over the slightly improved screen wake-up.
I turned off:
1) S Voice - Open via the home key.
2) All 3 animations.
Still have the wake up lag

Same here.
This has been discussed innumerable times before. Just taking an app out of a folder, disabling various functions is not going to solve the wakeup lag. Its caused because the SOC goes into kind of a deep sleep after a certain while when the screen is switched off. This helps it consume lesser battery life. The only way to solve this would be to create sort of a wakelock for the phone. Sure, your phone will turn on the moment you press the sleep/wake button, but at the cost of battery life.

I have researched and it seems there is no fix to the 1-2 second delay after the phone has been sitting for at least 15 seconds when you hit the home or power button. Ive tried turning off S-voice and all of the other recommendations but like most people with this issue the problem is not resolved.
Also I cannot get the ATT 4.1.2 update. Its still at 4.1.1 and tells me I have to check back in 24 hours.

Download Soft locker from the market and it will stop the screen lag and I have never noticed any noticable difference in battery life its still a beast!!!
I'm baffled why some have this problem. I've never had a screen on lag.
I use a pure black wall paper.
Home Screen Mode Basic
I run Nova Launcher
Settings:
Blocking Mode Off
Power Save Off
Display->Page Buddy Off
Display->Smart Rotation Off
Display->Smart Stay Off
Display->Auto Adjust Screen Tone Off
Lock Screen->Popup Note Off
S Pen->Open Popup Note Off
S Pen->Battery Saving On
S Pen->S Pen Keep On
S Pen->Air View Off
One Hand Operation Off
Don't know if these settings will help...
These other options could work but I am running clean room right now and I do notice the screen delay but it does not bother me.
I do know Sean the sky note rom creator has fixed this lag.
Root for the gn2 is sooo easy and very fast. Literally took me 3 min to Root and 2 min to flash twrp. In the mean time just download the rom cuz its like 800mb lol.
Good luck man. This is the best device I have used. I went from the Motorola Atrix to iphone 5 to this. Just the screen and s pen is a seller to me lol.

I know...This phone blows all of them out of the water right now..and now that we got all of the Dev's Love going on...it just keeps getting better.
Maybe when the new G4 comes out...maybe...but the note 3 won't be that far behind it...and I really doubt either one will be that much better over all than what we already have...They both would have to have some really serious hardware updates to make me move to one...and I wouldn't want to give up my unlocked Note II for a locked down version of anything just yet...

It's an old thread, but it seems the most relevant. I just flash my Gnote 2 to Skynote 10. I'm noticing the screen delay when it wakes. It's most jarring when I receive a call, answer it, the person starts speaking and my phone screen is still blank. Important because sometimes I have to switch to speaker phone or bluetooth ASAP. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix?

lol that app works by introducing a wakelock... so while others look to remove wakelocks, we do the opposite LOL
it's december and the problem still exists... using slimbean 4.3.1 and devil kernel... takes my phone a second or two to wake up... quite annoying actually...
guess there's no way around this other than to disable deep sleep (you can set that in kernel settings, if supported)

Root the phone and freeze or uninstall your unused apps with titanium backup..do a nandroid 1st of course. i also used juice defender plus. my battery life at end of day is at 70% to 75% with 300+ apps.

Is anyone having any issues with their 2013 N7 freezing? I've had it completely freeze up on me once, and several time just today it has had major input lag (like 2-3 seconds later) or would just not accept input. It hasn't been localized to any particular app.
Is this a common problem? Should I just go exchange mine?
Seems like a software issue which can be easily remedied.

When I first got my new Nexus 7 I did notice some "freezes" and unresponsiveness. Touches that would go unrecognized (links in the browser, back button). did a factory reset and watched it in case I decided I needed to exchange it. But it is seemed to improve and I rarely run into the freezing.
I've so far not returned/exchanged it, but an still keeping an eyes on it.
I have most certainly experienced a heavy freeze period while typing on the onscreen keyboard. While typing in all the credentials on first set-up I experienced moments of almost 20 seconds of non-response, followed by all input entering as if it was lagged out network style.
Rooting and flashing a new rom, this has yet to happen. This is why I love Android so much... its community knows that it is Unix and treats it as such.

I was wondering if its really the kernal that's causing the freezing. My N7 2013 right now freezes after about 15 minutes of turning it on, and the only way to unfreeze is by holding down the power for 10 seconds. My tablet will constantly do this after each turn on, but once I placed it in safe-mode there is no freezing. I am thankful that mine doesn't have the touch screen issue though! but this freezing problem is really driving me bonkers.
I nodded off for a few minutes the other day when I had FBReader up and when I woke up and tried to exit it was non-responsive. I get the impression FBReader forces the screen to stay on, but perhaps everything else goes to sleep anyway? That's the only freeze I can remember seeing.
I have SM-P605 (LTE version) running on BMJ9 (also tried few others before it) but the only thing I do seem to resolve and iritate me is the amount of time it takes to come whenever I pick it up. It is the same whether I use the home or the power button. I have switched off lock screen effect, I even switched off lock screen all together but the screen still wakes up sometimes after 2-4 seconds of pressing the button. Otherwise, it is not laggy in general.
Any ideas and wise words?
Cheers.

Thanks mate. Done that even disabled the svoice getting launched from the home button. THis behaviour is the same using TW or Apex.
This right here is why I returned it. No matter what I did, even using the Samsung Book Cover, nothing worked.
Drove me crazy til I finally had enough and exchanged it for the iPad Air.
If this issue gets fixed, I'd probably pick it up again.

I'm not a fan of iPad either but I got sick of opening the cover and always saying, "Ok, hold on a minute" when wanting to show it to someone.
You'd think this expensive spec beast would be able to wake up as fast as a dumb tablet with a third of its RAM. IPad is an instant wake.
Do you have power savings mode disabled?
Do you a micro SD card installed? If so, temporarily remove it and see if it makes a difference. Also, note the brand, model and speed class. And, did you format it in the device you're using?
Downgrading to a child's iPad with DRAM limitations and crashes is not an option for a lot of us.
it's a "feature" of the exynos processor. it puts itself into a deep sleep that has a slight delay when waking up. just about every exnyos4 and higher have the "feature".

Ummm...it's not limited to exynos processors my friend. It also happens on the snapdragon variants as well.
Just go in Developer Options and check box the option for "Force GPU Rendering". That did the trick for me so hopefully it'll work for you guys too.

Anyone else experiencing a really long delay when you try to wake your phone up? About 70% of the time when I wake my phone up to just use my phone, it has a bad delay. Most of the time it will take around 7 - 10 seconds for the screen to turn on.
I am stock and un-rooted. I have gone into the stock recovery and cleared the cache partition a couple of times, but that doesn't help. I am really hoping for S-off soon. I'm hoping that a custom rom can fix it.
I'm also experiencing this same problem, drives me insane. I'm hoping that maybe the forthcoming 5.1 update will address that issue.
I've never experienced this. I'm stock still. Kinda sounds like a runway app causing the problem.
Never saw this on launch os or 5.1. Have you tried running it without apps for a while?
Last night I disabled instagram. It seemed to fix the problem so far. I don't use it much anyway. My battery stat still shows it as number 2 on the list. I just uninstalled it. Maybe it will fix some issues.
I have this too...but I'd say only about 30 percent of the time. I use the double tap to wake aout it certainly does not all the time.
Mine does it sometimes. I don't know if it's a delay because I push the power button again and it comes on. Another thing that drives me up the wall is that the screen doesn't wake up after taking the phone away from my ear during a call sometimes. I'll have to push the power button to turn the screen on.
