Hello guys, just wanted to ask in case anyone else has experienced this. I attach a pdf to an email on Gmail, it shows as attached, but once I send it, the attachment is no longer there. I tried it on my macbook and it went through fine. I have uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, and it still would not go through.
The biggest I have been able to send (not google drive) is about 5MB. Anything bigger than that is either server deleted or if it is an office product it gets put on google drive. 17MB seems pretty large a portable app to send.

I have sent 20mb before, when I had my gs3. Idk if maybe google is limiting that from our phones now.... Just curious, since I know the limit is 25mb

I was begining to think that i was the only one suffering from this problem - obviously not as it appears there are plenty of others on other forums are having similar problems - it was suggested that this is best place for the answer - please someone help as i'm pulling out what little hair i've got left!
The Desire keeps telling me that i'm running low on internal storage space - the phone is "clean" as it was delivered - in other words there isn't any other apps been loaded.
I go to manage applications and discover that the HTC Mail application says it has 75mb in data - This cannot be right - but i go to my inbox to find i have 15 headers there each with a 100k limit.
I delete them from the inbox, go to the Trash folder and delete them from there too so they are deleted from phone.
I then go back to the Mail App and it tells me i have 76mb in data
As i continue to receive email the amount of data keeps rising.
I've spoken to VF - they tell me to do a factory reset - still the same.
The phone's OS is getting jerkier by the day as obviously it is loosing operational memory - the Mail today tells me i have 96mb - but i don't have any emails on the phone so where the heck is this data?
If this goes on the phone will ground to a complete stop.
Hope someone can assist as i and thousands of other will be extremely grateful !
Keep up the excellent forum
Have you checked to see if there are any other folders being filled up as it syncs?

Thanks EroThraX but unless i'm missing something here i'm begining to think i'm thick - but by all means point me in the right direction !
I've checked all the mail folders - Inbox, Outbox, Drafts, Sent and Trash and they are all empty.
There isn't a single email on the phone yet it tells me i've now 98mb in data - and yes the OS is now extremely jerky

Well i've just paid and downloaded the app but it dosen't do anything - it is for clearing the cache - you can do that without getting the app.
What it won't clear is the data
So thanks for trying but that is a dead end.
Anyone else have any ideas?
I guess there is indeed a problem with the mail app. My problem isn't as big as the OP but Mail has 1.9 MB in data and I have no accounts set up! I did play with it for a while bit didn't like it so I'm using only the Gmail app, so I deleted all my accounts in Mail. Why does it still have data (2 MB of it!)?

Launch the app, and go into menu
List items by data usage.
You should see where its all being kept

Thanks mate - but i've done this already and all it shows you is indeed where it is all stored - in the Mail App in data - not cache.
Curiously the write up for the app states that it allows you to remove data - yet in reality it dosn't allow you to remove data only the cache - so the search continues - what i cannot understand is how many people it is affecting yet there isn't that much of a panic on at the moment to it swallowing data.
i admit that i have plenty of emails coming in and i remove them out of the inbox and trash folders but the data is still there - but where the heck is it ?
You're not the only one at all. I've been troubleshooting this for a few weeks now. First it was the cache, which is somewhat tamed by the above aforementioned app. Now it's the data. With some apps, the data just keeps growing day by day. My Mail is now at 3.5MB without me knowing why (empty mail accounts) and my internet is at 6.2MB - although I'm inclined to reckon this is due to added bookmarks.
In the Mail app, under Menu>More>Settings>General Settings>Attachment Cache, do you have "external storage" selected?
Somehow, deleted junk mail attachments were still being kept and this was how one of my storage related issues was resolved. I go into the SD card dir and manually delete the large attachments now, if I can clearly make out which are unwanted. Even after the selected mail is deleted, their attachments are still there.

I`m going to go out on a limb and say that the op is using a googlemail or gmail account with the Htc Mail app and unless you actually delete from the account, not just the phone then the trash will just keep being resynced and added back.
Similar thing happened to me, but with the browser and perhaps with some other application, same 75mb in data, so it has to be a bug of some sort...

Thanks for all this - i was begining to think i was the only one suffering from it.
As per your question I do have external storage selected.
So when I go to the sdcard/mail directory are you saying that the files in there are the mail data that the mail app says is in storage internally?
There is a lot of them some are just numbers as the name,
permisssions : .rw
but it dosen't say the Mime type:
Size are all different - 47, 275 bytes
Some are tokens and numbers - but are 0 bytes in size
and i have maybe 20 which are small images (4,020 bytes)
If i'm wrong - slap me ! - surely that means that as i have external data selected the data should go to the sd card - so how come it keeps telling me that i'm low on internal memory if the data is stored on the sd card?
Are you suggesting that this data also needs to be removed too - but how can you differeniate between the files if you did want to keep important emails on the phone when the files are literally just aline of numbers?
Another point suggested by a forum member - the mail account is NOT a web based account - it is a server so that when they are downloaded once that's it you don't get them repeatidly - but thanks for the interest anyway.
Hopefully as other members are discussing this now we might get to a solution before the phones stop completly !
Any news about it? Tried to figure out the location where these files are stored, but couldn't find it
Not sure anyone found an answer, but I believe the /sdcard/.mail directory is the files that get attached to outbound emails. I had my eris configured for the stock email package (for my personal email account) and a gmail account.
I rooted my phone recently and before I installed a bunch of stuff I parused the sdcard contents. The .mail directory had attachments from long ago.
I'm guessing they are orphaned since the email no longer exists on my phone.
I deleted the files since I had all the attachments. (leave the .mail dir)
I had exactly this issue with the HTC mail app also with a pop account.
Cleared cache, deleted all emails, deleted all acounts and then deleted all the actual emails it left behind on the sd card and phone using Astro file manager (yes deleting the accounts and email through the app made no difference and left them physically behind).
After doing all of the above the mail app still showed as 80MB used.
At this point i then bit the bullet and did a "factory data reset", this resolved the issue for me and i havent had the issue since (well sort of, read on).
I am a lot more stringent on my mail sync'd to the app now though which is what is making the difference / a work around.
I only sync 14 days, only download the text (attachments if i need them i do manually).
There is currently only 3MB being shown used in the email app now after 3 weeks (i dont get a lot of email), which is a lot for only text mails for 14 days with the odd attachment.
There is no way there is 3MB worth of email in the mailbox which for me confirms the app itself just doesnt clean up after itself when you delete the mails.
So yep seems like a bug to me, which by the way i saw in 2.1 and 2.2.
Hope that helps
Actually I have exactly same issue with my stock 2.1 desire.
Is this problem resolved in 2.2? I am with an Asia ROM so haven't got 2.2 yet.
Touchdown is okay but I don't really want to install another program just for this stupid bug...

I read about people having problems with this app just after the Desire was released, it was said that the stock Android email app doesn't have any problems so I have been using that until recently and I never had any problems with it.
I have started using the HTC Mail app but I might switch back after reading this.

No its not fixed in 2.2, as per my previous post i have seen this issue in 2.1 and 2.2 which im currently running.
how to claim back the free space without doing a factory reset? my mail app now is 47mb....
Just another confirmation. I have a co-worker with a CDMA Desire running stock 2.1 -- Mail app is showing 69MB and getting the Low Disk Space warning notification. Deleted all mail accounts and power cycled -- no effect.
Probably going to end up doing a master reset.
I have not rooted or anything yet, but was wondering if anyone one knew why Facebook is getting bigger and bigger. Everytime I chek the "Data" size is increasing, I keep having to unistall and reinstall Facebook, because of the huge data size making phone storage space low.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !?!

cant you just clear the data like every other app or does it not do that? i dont use facebook app cuz i think its garbage, so im just guessing
can't clear data, wish it was that easy.
It's crazy; up to 62Mb of Data now, I even disabled sync of "facebook" newsfeeds, hoping that was it, no luck.
Have the same app (from market) installed on my mt3g for a year now, and the data is up to 5Mb.

Did you try clearing the cache?
I have FB set to never auto-update, notifications off, and sync all contacts. My app data is at 0.97MB. On the other hand, I rarely use the app as I mostly rely on the LauncherPro Friend's widget and TweetDeck.
Maybe you just have a massive Facebook addiction.
Facebook
Ok - I have been noticing this as well. Here is what I see.
I use the facebook app - "facebook for Android" it's a free download in the market.
When you open up applications in the settings menu - it has 2 Facebook applications. Facebook and Facebook for Mytouch. The Facebook for Mytouch is larger in my phone 17.5mb and does not have the option to uninstall... the downloaded facebook app is 6.5 mb and does get larger - but in the settings you can clear cash and it drops the app down.
I believe that the Facebook for Mytouch is the part of the phone os that syncs facebook details to your phones contacts. Like updating pictures and contact information for people who are linked from your contacts and facebook.
I personally like the updated profile/contact pictures that this feature offers... but 17mb is a HUGE price to pay.
The phone regularly gives the warning that it has LOW storage space reminding you that you should delete some apps... which is UNFORTUNATE. If only you could store the apps on the SD card EASILY - EVERYONE would be flocking to Android phones.
Just my experience with this issue.
Does anyone know if clearing data in the Facebook for Mytouch removes all the synced info - or is more like a clearing the cash?
Thanks
Ok this issue may have been addressed but I have searched high and low and I can't find anything. Email is setup on exchange server and I am recieving Wave file voicemails through my email. I downloaded Remote Wave Free app and it should play as soon as I click on the attachments but instead I have to download and save the attachment to my internal storage first instead of caching seperately. This also happens to PDF's and most other documents. This is getting frustrating as I am having to manually clean it out everytime my storage is getting full.
Any help would be much appriciated as I have not had this much trouble with any of the other android email applications.
Thank you.
Wondering if anyone on the stock rom has seen this issue.
I have an co-worker who has an Inc2 that we got a little while ago and replaced after it took a tumble, so with the new one we were hoping this issue would be something easy to get around but it still happens with the new phone.
On any of his email accounts, he cannot download attachments. Gmail, exchange, comcast, anything... you tap the download icon next to the message and nothing happens. If you do it from his comcast, it says "download failed". I've tried it over 3g, over wifi, anything... and still get the same result. I have checked all account settings so it isn't set to "only download over wifi" or anything, and still nothing.
Anyone seen this?
I would check to make sure there's a mini SD card in it; kinda sounds like the kind of thing that happens when there's no storage present.

One of my first thoughts - sees 15GB, 13GB free from the SD card and 0.92GB free on the internal memory.
Tried a different mail program yet, like Mail Droid? Not an ideal solution but interesting to see if it works. I use Mail Droid only to read e-mail from my parents, because they use AOL and the stock e-mail program always omits the last few words from the message body of the e-mails they send me. Totally weird.
Haven't tried that yet, i'll have to give it a go.
So I have a 2 part Dropbox question that basically amounts to me not fully understanding how it all works even though I use it on a daily basis... maybe someone here could help me out...
So I have Dropbox, on my phone (Galaxy Note 3) and 2 PCs, Home and Office.
Question 1 - You know how Dropbox on Android automatically when you're on Wifi uploads every single picture from your phone to a "Camera Uploads" folder on your Dropbox? Well since they're all uploaded already, and I have something like 3000 photos, which is starting to make my Gallery load slowly... Wouldn't the best way to clean them out be to just completely wipe all the photos from my phone... Then go through the Dropbox folder on one of my desktop computers and delete any crappy pictures I don't need to keep, leave the rest in there for backup purposes, and then if I wanted to keep some on my phone, copy those ones back onto my phone?
Question 2 - If I go through that "Camera Uploads" folder (Or any other folder in my Dropbox really) deleting and renaming and reorganizing files on one of my desktop computers... Will all those changes instantly happen on the others? Even if I'm deleting and/or renaming and/or moving around hundreds of files? What's to stop the other computer from syncing back to the one I'm currently going through and undoing all the changes I just made? Like if I have a folder called "X1" and another called "X2" and I delete a bunch of stuff out of each and then combine them into one and then name the new folder "X" ... The other computer at work isn't gonna go and sync my "X2" folder back to the computer I'm currently working on, right?
Obviously these are both a simple but clear misunderstanding of how all this cloud syncing works. I get it in principle, and use it constantly, but there are certain ideas of it that I think I'm just overthinking probably.
Any help would be appreciated.
Also I know that Q&A goes in the Q&A forum but I thought since this is a software thing and not really a phone thing it would be more appropriate in here...
From how I know it works (at least for me) as long as all accounts are logged in with the same info (name/password), and are auto-syncing, the folder that is modified first will be copied to the others when you open Dropbox on the others. In your example you have three (two PCs, and your phone). If you change something from your phone, it will replicate to your two PCs. If you change something on one of your PCs, it will replicate to your other PC, and your phone. It also works with the online site the same way. I just changed something in my phone, logged on to the website through my PC browser, and it replicated right away to match what I did on my phone.
EDIT - And I know you are talking about pics and gallery, and for that I would move/delete from the app on your phone, and not through the gallery. I think if you do something in the gallery it will just change back because you're not actually modifying Dropbox. I'm not really sure since I do all my stuff through Dropbox itself. You can try with one pic to see if it deletes from your other places if you delete it from the gallery.
Thanks for the reply. So yea if it's basically doing it instantly, then I think I'd be safe doing my plan the way I'm planning on it. My plan is to delete everything off the phone, which I know from experience doens't sync deletions to the dropbox... Just new pics get synced to dropbox... So if I delete pic11111.jpg it will still be in my dropbox folder... So with ALL my pics deleted from my phone's gallery, I can then go to my computer and spend a couple hours deleting specific garbage pictures, and those will then sync between the 2 pcs. Then I can move them out of that "Camera Uploads" folder and into a more permanent "Pics" folder. Or move first is probably even better...
Thanks again.
I use Dropbox all the time, I've got 4 accounts (Need that extra space) and then I've got it installed on my Note 3, Nexus 7, and a Galaxy S3. As for computers it's on my Mac, two laptops and a PC desktop. I installed them on all of those for the referral bonus space but now they all have the exact same account. So in answer to your question, you could go on your phone go into settings and turn off camera uploads, but then you would need to go into your gallery and manually upload the pictures you want to keep (which isn't a huge hassle to me at least.) Since you are using cloud storage technically all the photos that get uploaded wouldn't get eating up your space unless you have google+ enabled as well, then they will appear on your phone. Not all of them, but a good majority. I don't know what kind of a computer you use, but when I have dropbox on my MAC sync all of my folders that i have, I swear I get pictures that are quadrupled all the time....so frustrating. In answer to your second question, you can modify any picture, document, etc, that has been uploaded from dropbox to a computer and make any changes you want to it without it making changes to another linked computer. Only way it it would is if you put that changed photo for example, back into your dropbox folder. Hopefully that made sense
