So for whatever reason my phone now says it's fully charged @ 96% instead of 100%.
Anyone know why that would happen? Thanks up front for your input..
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Sounds like a BLX script kicking in (BatteryLifeXtender) to give your battery the longest physical run time. Are you using a custom kernel of any sort?
I believe that it's normal for your phone to get charged to 100% and dropping some before it starts charging again.

Hava you flashed a kernel?
Flashing some kinds of kernel may change it,WIPE and reflash a stock kernel will repair.A fake battery may also be the reason, test the phone with a new battery to see whether the old battery is fake
Franco kernel, stock battery so I don't know?
I haven't changed anything recently except I updated the Franco nightly to 196..
It just recently started being fully charged @ 96% in the past couple days. I've had my G Nex for almost a month now. Running Gummy and Franco Kernel from the gate?

Franco has blx in his kernels, its normal don't worry. Its to help your battery keep its strength. All is good

I think what he's saying is that even stock kernels charge to 100% then even while plugged in will stop charging and drop to about 96 and continue charging again even though the lock screen still says charged. This prevents overcharging. But as the other post says Franco kernel has a script that says the battery is full at 96%. You can change that with his app.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
That's how phones and laptops charge, actually. They usually stop at some predetermined level under 100%... my laptop stops at 80%, most Android phones stop around 96%. The manufacturer often displays this percentage as 100% to prevent user confusion, a lot of custom rom/kernel devs force the battery reading to be accurate though.
The reason behind the battery not charging all the way to 100% is going to either extreme, 100% or 0%, shortens the overall life of Lithium Ion batteries.
TL;DR: Don't worry about it.

So last night. Just like everynight I plugged in my phone. Left it on my bed. And woke up this morning. The phone was off and it was so hot to the touch I could barley hold it. No exaggeration. I actually have a screen shot of the temp when it first booted up. Its was 179° .. I don't know what caused this.. but I hope my device wasnt damaged at all last night. And I do not know the culprit. It was just random.
Here is a screenshot of the temp through francos app. Oh and by the time the phone booted it actually cooled down a little bit so I'm betting the phone hit 110°c last night and shut its self off. The weird thing is it was still hot while it was off just charging...

You should attempt to replicate it for the purpose of identifying the cause. It's likely the charger, the first place I'd start. Have you rooted? Are you OC'd? Have you recently installed a new ROM or changed anything?
I am rooted. I was over clocked to 1.5 GHz. And I actually just installed nightly #221 but I'm trying to figure out why it was still hot after it was off..

My guess is that the charger is giving it too much juice, at least when the phone is shut off and the battery full. Is it the stock charger? Also, it could be possible that the software that regulates the charge isn't functioning properly and you woke up shortly after it had shut off.
I am using the stock charger.

Would have been quite the wake up call.
I can bet you have disabled thermal throttling? If so, then: 1.5GHz+charging+some app using 100% of CPU resources = +110C is very likely.

Even at 1.5, I still don't see what his phone could have been doing to get that hot.
The only time my phone gets over 110 F is with my otter box on in the sun

Charging always locks the phone at 350mhz (keeps out of deep sleep) if it is on.

My opinion is that it is probably your charger giving the phone too much juice... HOWEVER, why is your charger giving the battery too much juice? you should check the fuses in the house. if you have the charger plugged into one of those multiple outlet bars, those tend to overheat electrical appliances. plugged something else into that same receptacle and see if it gets got over time
The first thing I checked was thermal throttle. I'm not using a power bar. Uhm. Yeah I'm not exactly sure what was up with it. The only thing I could think of was it was slightly under a pillow. But still.. I don't see it getting so hot while being under a pillow with no pressure being applied to it. Tonight I'm going to try and replicate what I did last night but with CPU spy on. Maybe there is a rogue app cause problems. Who knows. Oh and recently my phone has told me twice in the past few days that the Sim card was removed. And when I touched the metal over the Sim card it was hot as hell. I think I might have a defective phone at this point... I've never really pushed this phone. But it runs hot sometimes. Very easily. And what scares me is since I had to get a refurb.. damn insurance.. it was unlocked when I got it...
Just normally charging and light browsing right now and I'm at about 156° I'm not sure what to think of that number

Yes, I've experienced it with custom kernel (e.g. franco) but with stock kernel phone sleeps well deep during charging. (For sure I've tested it now, so this is 100%.)

I just got a Nexus and rooted, etc, using the toolkit.
I've noticed that the battery will not charge all the way to 100%, no matter how long i let it charge.
Yesterday for example, i used the phone till it died, then connected the phone to the charger over night.
This morning i turn the phone off and see that the battery is only at 92%!?
How can i fix this?!
Currently running Vicious Jell Bean v4.
Perhaps this is why there is an option to clear battery stats in clockwork, yes?

That doesn't actually do anything aside from erasing your battery graph.
Yeah from what I've read, clearing the battery stats using CWM or some other calibration app, didn't take care of the whole problem.
Any other ideas?

Does the kernel you are using have BLX?
That can be used to put a limit on how high a battery charges, maybe you changed the value by accident or it was set that way by the dev.

Not sure but i didn't use any other kernel except the one that came with the Vicious Jelly Bean rom.
I just noticed that you can change the mAh capacity in the "Battery Monitor Widget" by 3C.. it currently shows that capacity is 1750mAh when the stock battery states 1850mAh. Should i change the value now and drain the Battery completely, then full recharge?

I super-wiped, deleted dalvik cache, and factory reset, and flashed the Rev' HD rom, and STILL doesnt charge past 92%?!?!
Perhaps its the "Battery Monitor Widget" from 3C and the data stored?!??
Same happened to me. And it's getting worse progressively - first it was charging to 89%, then it didn't go above 79, now I can rarely see it go over 60
Since day one my phone never got to 100%, it always stops at 99%...
My phone was able to charge to 100% within reasonable time. I've changed a few firmwares with full wipe, that didn't impact neither the ability to charge to 100% when it was able to do so nor the inability to charge fully when the problem surfaced.
I suspect that problems started after I dropped my phone (wasn't a hard drop, just a fall to a hard surface from 0.5 m, no visible damage).
Is it possible that the battery gets damaged somehow?
Same problem

Same problem here, my phone charge until 84% BUT:
I tried with a battery of my friend that was at 95% and my phone showed it 60%!
The issue is in the way that our phone measure the battery, but i already tried wipping bat stats and nothing...
I also wiped all the things and re-installed 4.2.2 and same problem
Why would you even bother eating your time wiping battery stats? It had absolutely nothing to do with charge indication.

OK guys not sure whats been going on but i had around 8% left its been 4hrs or 5 and its only up to 78% thats a bit crazy if you ask me. Im running a custom Rom 4.2.1 i believe i feel like going back to stock...
Where did you get 4.2.1? The kernel in something that for off from what is in the usual development channels may have an impact on charging. I'd stick with 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 for current kernels.

I had this problem also when I had the note 2 for about a month...happened twice only though, not every time. I ended up returning that phone because the mic kept cutting out. I haven't had this problem on a new note 2 yet (been about 3 weeks). So there might be something wrong with the device, i don't know.

When you plug in the charger, double check that it says "AC Charging." I have plugged mine in and gotten mixed results:
1. AC charging
2. USB charging
3. Nothing
If I get #3, I restart and usually get #1.
You can also install a battery monitor app and check the log to see how much charge you are getting.

If you were flashing a new rom or any big file. You should never flash below 50% percent. I did this the other day and it was just charging so so slow. So what I did was turned it off and let it charge. While that was happening I guess when it hits a certain percentage it automatically turns on. It turned back on and it was charging just fine. And also when your on the phone while charging the percent goes down for me as well.

Something is wrong there. Easy candidates are:
Your battery
your charger
your cable
Do you have any way to swap out any of the above to see what it may be?

Random input.....
I just happened to be charging my phone while browsing the forum yesterday when I came across this thread. I'm not having any issues I was just killing time and being lazy..
It made me check my battery and I noticed it seemed to be charging kinda slow. (I had been plugged in a while and hadn't gone up much) I checked battery in settings and it said charging USB. I was plugged into the wall outlet. Strange indeed!
I unplugged the usb from the phone then plugged it back in and it switched to AC. It definitely started charging faster after that.
I never would have thought to check this so I'm glad I was snooping around.
Just figured I'd share my experience.
