Recently got the OTA JB update for my One X, but honestly I'm not satisfied, so I have 2 possible options:
1. try custom JB ROM
2. downgrade to official ICS since it was a GREAT ROM: less bugs, SMOOTHER & BETTER BATTERY LIFE than official JB
Since there are tutorials for option 1 listed above, I need help for option number 2.
Thanx in advance!

If you want to go back to ICS, you have to root your phone,, install cwm
and then restore the nandroid backup of official ICS..
But will this work ?
When u install ota it will upgrade the Hboot doesn`t it ?

Well, that's not good to hear. I was actually thinking of going back to Sense, and was looking forward to the eventual upgrade to JB.
I wonder if battery life is just an issue with Jelly Bean itself? Because ever since I went from Sense 4.1 to CM10 (with JB) my battery life has become absolute garbage.
I was thinking it was largely due to CM10 being s**t but now I wonder if it's JB itself?
I'm on ViperX, hboot v 0.94...If I upgrade to JB, my hboot is upgraded to 1.36...if, for some reason I would like to go back to ViperX, is it possible ? I read somewhere that it isn't
No

Not true. If you're asking if you can go back to an ICS rom after updating your hboot to JB rom status, yes you can.
You cannot, however, downgrade your hboot once you upgrade it. That's why I don't personally recommend updating your hboot because, if you want to flash an AOSP rom after updating, you will have to use a special boot.img and even then apparently GPS won't work.
In summary (as it seems to me), you need to update your hboot in order to flash a Sense JB rom, but not to flash an AOSP JB rom. As a matter of fact, as stated above, you will be constrained with an upgraded hboot if you want to flash the AOSP JB roms with the newer hboot. But, flashing an ICS rom after updating hboot is no problem. Phew!
Damn, this phone is confusing!

I don't know a lot about this phone (pretty new to it and, wow, is it complex compared to my Nexus), but not only did I get it from an experienced source that you can indeed flash ICS roms on JB (updated) hboots, I have actually done it myself. I bought my phone off Craigslist, already rooted and running ARHD v15.0 (a JB Sense rom) and on 1.23 hboot. I didn't know what that meant at that the time, but after doing a lot of research and asking around (and despite a lot of conflicting opinions), I ascertained that I could flash an ICS rom on my updated hboot. Thus, I flashed Viper X and it worked fine.
Please do a nandroid backup and try the viper x. I have seen that viper x is compatible up to 1.31. Did not see a post anywhere that its not compatible with the 1.36 hboot. So please just try and post the result here.
Or who did see the post point me there
Lol you guys need to make up your minds ...jokes aside, if I can use ICS after updating hboot, I'd be updating it right now tbh, couldn't give a f*ck about AOSP so Im safe there . Im waiting and reading for more answers. ARHD 16 is coming out soon so that could be a first...and I hear ViperX is coming out with a JB version soon
Sent from my Viperized HTC One X
I did made up my mind. At the moment i really don't see why it should not boot, and i can't find a post that it will not boot on the 1.36. I say ... just give it a go , do it for xda-science
I asked a friend who's in my country. He says he (hboot 1.36/CID_044) didn't have any problems going back to ViperX after upgrading his hboot looks like I'm gonna update today
As far as i know all ics roms boot on the higher hboots.the only problem is with kernels , you can't use 2.17 based kernels on JB roms due to radio/network problems
You can't downgrade....that's true but it regards the hboot itself, and no ruu will work either. This has nothing to do with a custom rom
I hope that aman360elite can point me to his source of info.
I have thought that we would be able to downgrade to ICS using official RUU, can't we?
Not shore about that?!?

Hello,
I upgraded my hboot from 1.12 to 1.36. on hboot 1.12 i was on viperx 2.7.1 and then when i updated i could still use viperx 2.7.1 so as far as i am aware viperx still works on hboot 1.36. and i thought any ics rom works on 1.3 and above?
We can NOT downgrade the hboot with a ruu ! That's because our phones are still S-ON ! and yes you can run ics roms on the higher hboots but you need a stock nandroid backup for it !
Hi All
I have a HTC One X... it had maximus installed (don't know the version) and my brother downgraded it to stock ICS it was working perfectly until he installed some OTA update. now its freeze unexpectedly. BUT if I connect it to a USB charger or to PC it wont freeze... tried flashing with CM 10.1 , Maximus 21, stock Nandroid backup 4.18.401.2 still no luck
can some one please help me to downgrade back to stock ICS.

Hey guys, my One X is CID_044 and apparently the OTA update is out. I've downloaded the firmware zip but a few things are a bit hazy to me.
1. Updating HBoot - I know mine's 0.94 now and the update ships with 1.36. Does this mean that I can use current Sense JB ROMS like ARHD IF I just download and update my HBoot alone (no flashing the Stock JB Sense ROM)
2. Will updating HBoot cause problems if I wish to return to ICS ROMs ?
3. Will updating HBoot cause any bugs in the future ?
4. Will updating HBoot cause problems if I want to use CM10 ROM's ?
5. There is no way of downgrading HBoot, is there ?
Thanks hope some of you can help me out. I doubt I'll be updating to the OTA update. Kinda feel sad to leave ViperX just for an update, which by the looks of it, wasn't all that :silly:

hi all , i have a problem with my one x.
i'm trying to update to JB but every time when i change the hboot from 1.12 to greater ones - 1.28 to 1.39 the onex is stuck to boot loop.
i can revert to 1.12 due tot the fact that i have S-OFF and i can also install non sense JB - as CM10 but, i would like to install the official JBRUU or at least some other custom rooms that are with the official version.
any ideas, cause i'm out of it?

Have you only updated HBOOT? I think you might also need a ROM and kernel that are compatible with the newer firmware

with 1.12 i was able to successfully install CM 10, nightly builds, but as soon as i have update my Hboot no other JB sense ROM has worked.
The only way to make my phone work again was to run the Europe RUU ICS 1.20.401.1 which revert my HBOot to 1.12.
Any suggestion?
I may be wrong here, as I'm new to HTC. But doesn't being s-off, as in a super-CID mean you can use any RUU? i.e. running a jb RUU would contain the correct Hboot.
Hi,
First time user of an Android device. I have a branded Vodafone HTC One X that I unlocked and flashed Cyanogenmod 10 on. It works wonderful, runs really fast and is overall much better than Sense. Now that Cyanogenmod 10.1 has reached beta stage, I'm intending on trying out JB 4.2.1. In order to do that, I need to update my HBOOT past 1.28.
It is here that I am quite lost. I did a bit of reading around on xda and other forums to figure out the best method and got a lot of different and sometimes conflicting info. I think this FAQ is the most accurate to my situation although I am worried that it is out of date: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660807
If it helps, the current HBOOT version on my phone is 1.12 and the CID is VODAP021.
It seems the consensus is that I have to (from top to bottom order):
Revert back to stock Sense ROM
Revert back to stock recovery
Relock bootloader (Do I lose root when I do this?)
Run the correct RUU for my phone in order to update HBOOT
Re-unlock bootloader, re-root (if necessary), re-flash custom recovery and flash CM10.1
Are all the above steps correct?
I am aware that there is a collection of stock Nandroid backups somewhere on this forum, but for simplicity's sake can I just restore the Nandroid backup I made prior to flashing Cyanogenmod on my phone? Will restoring the backup also restore the boot.img file? Will the backup also revert my phone back to stock recovery?
Also, I looked on the RUU directory (http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/?dir=Endeavor) and found two RUU's that match my phone's CID: 1.26.862.3 and 1.29.862.11. Which one is correct?
Sorry if I seem to be bombarding with questions. I think I get the gist of it, but I'm rather paranoid of screwing up so I just want to triple check my understanding before I do anything. If I am over-complicating things, please let me know.
Yes root is lost on lock ( only remporarily ). When you unlock with fastboot oem unlock_token.bin you get back root.
Has Vodafone released JB update for your phone? If yes , then you dont need RUU. After returning to complete stock ( even recovery ) you cant update with official OTA . This will update the hboot.
You only have to revert to full stock and stock recovery. The bootloader can stay unlocked !
And yes the ota is out for him
The basic steps are :
Flash the boot.img from the nandroid backup
Full wipe in recovery (caches,data,system)
Restore the nandroid backup
Flash the stock recovery
According to your hboot 1.12 you are on 2.17 based android 4.0.4 software .....
This is your stock recovery

I know that too mate, but I'm interested in if there is any benificial changes in the new hboot, otherwise I wouldn't see the need to upgrade. Remember to unlock again afterwards and flash a custom recovery. This way shouldn't wipe your SD card (I've never experienced it), but backup just in case.

I don't feel any difference at all.. if anything WiFi has gotten worse (could be placebo). I havn't done any thorough testing though. All is fine exept WiFi. The phone is cool, battery is awesome and performance is great. I'm running InsertCoin 19.8-02.
You can backup using the HTC Backup tool, which works great.. the only thing I've had to set myself upon restoring is wallpaper, everything else works like a charm.

I haven't found anything yet. WiFi seems the same (if not a little worse). It is really hard to compare since the new rom never had time to settle on the old hboot. But I think perhaps battery has improved a little along with temperatures.. again, it is really hard to tell.
My take on this is that the difference of the two hboot is really small, regardless of the big jump in numbers. Hboot 1.39 is able to run the new roms unlike what we experienced when upgrading from Android 4.0 to 4.1, where a hboot/firmware upgrade was necessary. Let me know what you guys think
The big question for me is this one:
Does the new HBOOT allow the recovery to flash boot.img as it works on the HTC ONe ?
Hi, I've decided to go for the stock ROM due to a lot of problems i'm having with my HOX.
I already have Stock Boot.img, Recovery.img, but I am missing the Hboot.
According to the RUU Software my Hboot (Which I upgraded a year ago to 1.39) I need an older Hboot in order to run the RUU.
I've searched for a lot of sites and forums and don't seem to find a Hboot 0.96 (Stock) anywhere.
I'd appreciate if some has or knows where can I get it,
Thank you in advance!

Just went back to ARHD, well it seems the end of this device is near. Thank you!
I've the same problem. I'm on HBoot 1.72 and I want get back to SlimBean 4.2.2 because with that ROM my HOX runs best. If I try to install SlimBean Build 8 I get the message that only HBoot <= 1.39 is supported. Is there any way to get back on Slim 4.2.2?
I've solved my problem without downgrading HBoot or something like this. You can simply edit the updater-script from the ROM and add HBoot 1.72 as possible solution. Now I'm running Slim 4.2.2 on HBoot 1.72 without any problems.
