HTC Evo V Internal Storage Question - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there! Don't know if this is the right forum, but I got a question..
I got an HTC Evo V from VM, I noticed VM and a few other places says it comes with 4GB of Internal Storage, but when I looked in the system, all I get is 1GB. Is it suppose to be 1GB or 4GB?
Thanks!

this belongs in the evo 3d section since this is technically a rebranded sprint evo 3d. But the reason you have only 1gb is because the other 3GB of internal is used up by the system. For example my galaxy s3 is the 16gb version but only has 12gb usable since some of the memory is used for the phone/system.

Ah thanks! If I rooted the phone, would there be a way to expand the storage? Or just remove the bloatware included?

the internal storage would increase a little but not past 1gb if you flashed a rom. With root you could remove bloatware which could free up internal memory

[Q] Can you increase the data.img on evo to 1GB data storage?

ok just got a evo and thinking of making the switch officail from tmobile hd2 now on the hd2 android roms you can increase the data.img size to default 512 MB, 1 GB or in some cases 2 GB allowing you to install more apps on to your phone, I was wondering if the same thing was possible to do with the evo I like to have a lot of apps on my phone so if someone could point me in the right direction i would really appreciate it.
11 views and not one answer seriously someone has to know the answer to this and yes i have searched and found nothing
Forums are kind of dead on the weekends.
I haven't seen anything like that for the evo since it's 512ram/512rom.
We have apps to sd - basically you can move your apps to the SD card, which is normally bigger than the ram/rom.

Um, isn't it 1GB ROM + 512MB RAM?

Obviously you can't increase it its the built in Rom space.
You can use apps to SD (a2sd) on some roms that partitions your card and puts apps on it.
yeah sorry about that and I just know on the HD2 android which I have been using on tmobile you can increase the data.img size up to 1 GB which allows you to install way more apps on your android

that is because on your HD2, the data.img file resides on the memory card, which is likely 8GB or larger, so that increase in size is possible. On the Evo, the data.img is stored on the internal ROM, which has a physical capacity of 512MB, so we have already reached the maximum capacity...
if you wanna install a lot of apps i would recommend fresh rom's .i got 330 apps installed in my phone not on my sd cz for some reason my cheap ass 16gb card act up evertime i put an app in it.

Is your 16gb card a class 6? If not that's probably why.
^ FAST... Why do you say that.. Just curious because I was about to pull the trigger on a Class 6 16GB right now.

Those are the correct specs. They are the same that HTC, Sprint, and now Google have always advertised. 1 GB Rom and 512 MB Ram.
As to the OP, you may be able to change the partitions some, especially if you clean up the system partition, but it would require building a new ROM and flashing it. At least, that's the only way I know of to repartition your NAND.
Oh, and you probably won't recover way too much memory to the data partition. Probably no more than you free in system by removing some unnecessary built in apps like Quickoffice.

Becasue a class 6 card will be faster then a class 2 or etc.
I know this is an old, dead thread, but if someone is searching and comes across the OP's question, here is the answer.

On the front is a large touchscreen rumored to be 4.3-inch in size and having a resolution of 1280 x 720,
On the hardware front the Vigor is expected to have a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with Adreno 220 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 16GB internal memory and running on Android 2.3.4. It is also said to have the Beats Audio, the result of the recent alliance between HTC and the Beats by Dre brand.

Wow, that sounds like a killer :O
It looks good
how are they doing 16GB internal storage?
I am sure I read/heard that samsung's galaxy S had a partition basically and used some form of App2sd+ to mimic the 8GB internal (which was actually 2(?)GB internal storage and 6(?)GB of FAT32 storage?)... and then you could add a FAT32 SD on top... and I imagine the GS2 did the same?
i also thought GB couldn't cope with more than 2GB internal actual storage, but HC/ICS was resolving that cap?
HTC learned with own mistakes.
My desire has just 512mb for /system, /data and more stuff

TouchPaled from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
1.
It looks good...although I ain't believing the 16GB internal storage story, not until it is available to be bought in the market.
Non of HTCs gadgets has such specs up to now.
2.
The word "Beats" worries me...how about the price will be? USD20,000?
it'll probably end up being 1.6GB internal

Most likely
google know the response:
it has 2 GB of ROM (/system + /data +/cache) and 16 GB of internal storage to use as mass storage to put images, video, ecc...plus of course the possibility to use a microSD card
its like all the other new phone out there at the moment (internal (16gb) and external (sdcard) storage)
for comparison our desire have 512mb of rom, no internal storage, and an external storage (sdcard)

Inspire 4G Internal 4GB?!?!

Hey guys, I just got a new Inspire 4G AT&T Branded and Debranded it and flashed ARHD6.1.1 and everything is super smooth and good.. I got one question. what is the meaning of 4GB internal memory if u only get 1.1GB after flashing a software? I have googled a bit and couldnt find a good answer. even 4EXT recovery doesnt show 4GB in system.... is it a scam? plz i need help
4G total, but system uses most, so that's why only 1.1 available to use. I for one wish they would just state what is usable. I don't care about the amount I can't use.
the Internal 4gb that AT&T refers to is actually the 4gb class 4 micro sd that comes pre installed in the phone when you purchase it..... the phone itself is the same as your run of the mill Desire HD's (including the telus ones) but with a different audio codec, and the housing has an at&t symbol on the back rather than "HTC".
in actuality, its only 1.5gb of space on the phone which is all the system apps to be installed on, and other apps you install off the market. (That 1.1gb you see is the data partition on that 1.5gb of solid state space)
Thanks guys for the info, but it came with 8GB card and i believe it has a second microphone close to the Camera, which i didnt have on my DHD. Also some people says the other 3GBs are used by system for speed purpose like L2/L3 cache, but its just a theory and i m not good at these stuff, thx anyway

GNex memory question

I just got my GNex the other day and loaded up CM10 nightly build. Everything working well but one question I have.
When I go into Settings > About Phone the Memory shows 693MB.
I thought the phone had 1GB of ram?
Just wondering if my phone has 1GB or ram or less.
thanks

You've got 1GB RAM - some is dedicated to the OS though. Much like when you purchase a 16GB SD card, but only 14.XX is actually usable

Well, the thing is, I have both the Galaxy Nexus and HTC One X running CM10 nightlies with bundled kernels, yet the Nexus has 693MB RAM available while the HOX has 0.95 GB... wondering how does that compute? Thanks...

Either the HTC One X is not displaying the amount of free RAM correctly, or it has more than 1024MB RAM.

[Q] Internal Memory

Hi Just got my samsung captivate glide from ebay it's a second hand phone I just notice that my internal memory is only 3gb (used root explorer to see it). Is this the real memory or there is something bogus on this phone that i got from ebay. Thank you would appreciate any reply

Lol, no it's the real phone. I actually just got mine too. 3.75GB available for me to use.
It's weird though. I had the old Captivate which had 16GB of space and more than 13GB of it was available to me. I know you lose some space when formatting but I expected to have at least 5GB with this phone. May be due to partitioning of the device from the factory. Hopefully I can free up that space, because I'd like to have it...
Maybe someone else can explain the ROM breakdown a little better

Thanks for the reply yeah was thinking looks weird they say 8 gb I know 2gb goes to system but where is the other 6 or 5 lolz anyway thanks was worried i got trick by the person I bought from.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
Memory manufacturers are allowed to define 8GB as 8000000 bytes. Given this information a computer would see 8000000 bytes as 7812.5 MB or 7.629 GB. And this is before it is formatted or partitioned. Figure the phone has 7.5 GB. Then you have 2GB for internal apps and 4GB for internal sdcard. Leaves 1.5GB some in partitioning and rest in ROM use for operating system and reserved places for phone and modem sections.
That is why you hear about many people adding large micro sd cards and switching internal memory with external memory.

I have a 16gb card, and never needed a new one since... Every phone I've upgraded to has more and more built in memory, so it's kinda left my memory card the same over the years.
reply your question
use this programe for move installed data on internal sd to external
GL to SD v1.9.9
Use Link2Sd
