hi i have a problem with the hotspot and tether apps , first time a had that problem with XxXPachaXxX NERO 2.2 rom then installed this rom ViperDHD v1.2.1 wich is a very good rom !! i thought it was a rom problem and it was mentioned that the hotspot works fine in this rom but i still have the same problem if i use the hotspot app i get connexion but no internet and after deactivating the app mi WIFI doesn't wok i have to restart my phone to get the wifi again; if i use another app like wifi tether i get an error msg ( the tetherting started with errors tetherting failed ) now i switched back to CM7 and still nothing.
PLZ help guys ? thanks all
Hi darko1x, have you tried PDAnet? It's a tethering app I've used it with GB,ICS and JB roms currently on Codefire X's SR5. Its always done the job for me and even has an option to disguise your tethering, as some phone carriers will block your internet use if you're not paying for an extra tethering package.
Hi and thnx for the reply, so i tried the app you suggested and it gets to nothing.
I made some screenshots for 3 differnt apps, take a look please

With JellyTime I can't use tethering too, I've opened a bug report but in R29 wasn't fixed yet.
I tried 3 different mods and no solution
Ps: it was working good first time i used CM7

Probably due wifi drivers, because CM7 uses kernel 2.6.x and CM10 3.x kernels.
can you please explain ? do you have anny idea how to fix it ?

Hey everyone, i know nightly qquestions arent supposed to be asked, but i consider myself a pretty experienced user and still cant figure this out.
Whenever i install a relativly recent version of gbread on my phone it completely breaks tethering. Ive tried reinstalling the gb cm kernel and reinstalling wireless tether app...the last known working rom for me is build 45 of the pre- nightly gridlock builds

Have you tried the native wireless tethering hotspot, works for me on CM7.

Last I heard, there conflicts if you install a 3rd party tether app since tethering is already bundled into the build. Uninstall any 3rd party tether apps, reboot and try the native tethering app, it should work.

When you flash the new nightly, are you mounting /system first? I've found that if I don't mount /system before flashing, wifi and wifi tether sometimes don't like to work. (Wifi tether looks like it's working, but when you connect to it, you get a limited connection and no internet connectivity)
Hey, just tried reflashing after mounting system and still no luck..what kernel should i be using?

CM7 doesnt work with Wireless Tether use the native Hotspot that comes with CM7 found in menu/setting/wireless&network/tethering&portable hotspot. OriginalGabrial already said this:

Same here. I ended up downloading Barnacle from the market and that works well for me.
Hey everyone,
Does anyone know where I can find a working link to the stock, post-OTA kernel for T-Mobile US G2's? The link here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836042) no longer works.
I'm running the stock rom with root, s-off, pershoot's kernel, but pershoot's kernel no longer supports froyo - and his past froyo kernels break my wifi tethering and sometimes my wifi altogether. Sad, but essentially my rooting process seems to have been in vain - I'm not really happy with any of the developed roms, because none of them seem to ever be working perfectly (gps not working, wifi broken, gapps impossible to install, netflix works - sometimes!, etc.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Link works fine for me on phone and computer...

Link for the kernel or the link to the thread?
UPDATE:
Turns out Firefox was being weird and not displaying the page properly. I got it now, and I am running the stock kernel. It sucks that developers are only developing kernels for undeveloped platforms! Beauty and curse of this awesome site, I suppose. Thanks for your quick response.

Hi guys, new to XDA here, just flashed JBSourcery 4.1 last night seems pretty good so far, just have some questions.
1. Is turning the camera vertically/horizontally causing a short lag 1-2seconds lag for you guys? It is for me. Although not an issue.
2.The WIFI tether toggle doesn't seem to do anything, and setup takes me to the stock tethering page.
3. I downloaded the android wifi tether app(the yellow one) via app store, their online beta versions, none of them seems to work. If I change SSID and password, it'll crash the app. If I just run the app without changing anything, it shows it's tethering, but it cuts off the internet on my phone too and doesn't actually tether anything.
Any help would be appreciated.
bump, help plz!
The 4.2 camera lags on every ROM that I have run...
The native Wi-Fi tether works flawlessly for me so I don't know what to tell you as far as that's concerned.

By native i think you mean the one that's under settings->more(under wireless&networks)->tethering & portable hotspot?
I tried that one and it didn't work either, shuts off the internet on my phone but still broadcasts
Has anyone had any issues with wifi tether after the 4.3 ota.
I am having one hell of a time getting it to work.
I tried everything i can think of and it refuses to work.
Get errors about not finding the binaries, gets phone in unknown state ( the only app that does it )... yes i am rooted and confirmed that i can mod system files.

thanks
I'm seeing the exact same thing. Also seeing messages like "Couldn't install file-data/data/com/googlecode.android.wifi.tether/bin..." and when trying to view the log file it also doesn't exist. Have tried several configurations and several tethering apps and can't get anything to work.
Gain root access, delete or rename /data/misc/wifi directory.
Reboot your phone.
Problem solved 100℅

This didn't work for me.
Hopefully it works for OP. I'll just have to go back to FoxFi for the time being.

What exactly is happening when you start tethering ?
Are you getting "error" or you can start tethering but no data is transfered from your device ?
My post solves the "error" problem as described here
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=62516
Other posts here indicate that in some cases tethering won't work if you don't have a plan for it.
Anyhow there is a fix for this issue too. search the forum.

Depending on what I try I either get a screen that is forever asking me to "Please wait while starting..." or I get the error like wpsantennas where it tells me "Couldn't install file-data/data/com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether/bin/tether!"
It will tell me my phone is in an "unknown state" if I try to stop and restart the tethering process.

Same problem here. Tethering worked fine before update, after updating to 4.3 experiencing same problems listed above.
From what I've read, a few of the custom roms, including some sense roms, seem to have the stock mobile hotspot working. Anyone know what was changed in those to get it working?

Oh, but I am rooted, just running stock (except for root, of course). Your NuSenseOne rom has a working modified wifi tether. Can it be transplanted to stock 4.3?
Thanks.

100% stock rooted, debloated.
Im trying to get the native tether with security check bypassed.. i found the code but of course when i debloated i dont have the files, so i got to wait 3 hours to dl the rom with the file ..ugh useing th previous rom files i can get it to launch and run, and show up but going into settings crashes settings
I'm stock rooted except running ObOne kernel. Didn't think the kernel was the problem but didn't run tether on 4.3 before flashing the new kernel. When I ran into the tether problems I wasn't debloated but since then I've dumped some stuff.
Based on the error messages it seems as if the app can't write to the directory but have no clue why. Tried OpenGarden and it had the same errors.

I decided to check out the sprint forums for the one, and the exact same thing happened to them when they got 4.3 . It seems it was hit or miss with the tether apps. and it seemed that a reasonable fix was to use native tether with security bypassed. The person who modded the one tether app that we are having problems with seems to be MIA
Workaround
All,
I believe i found a viable workaround
