What apps are safe to delete? - Nexus 4 Themes and Apps

Hey guys,
I want to delete some apps from the Nexus 4 like Currents, Books, Videos etc.
Are these safe to delete?
I've rooted so I suppose I could just delete them through Root Explorer or something?

Here's a guide about what apps are safe to delete
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/wiki/barebones
It's a bit outdated but I've deleted the Email app, Currents, Play Magazines, Play Movies, Play Books, Stock Launcher.
However when I was trying to update to 4.2.1 yesterday it gave me an error about how the native Email client was missing and would not let me update. So I had to flash the factory image, update, and then delete the apps again.

Thanks for the reply man. A bit worrying, though, that it won't let me update.

dont have to flash factory image.. just copy them back to system and fix permissions. I had the error too but lucky after the update, I made a backup of the apps I want deleted before i delete them. Its in my dropbox now ready for the next update someone in the dev forum has an odex and deodex rom.. use the odex rom if you want the apps back. This is the post.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010887 he might make a JOP40D, dont know..

Titanium Backup will let you freeze these apps without having to delete them from your device. They will not appear in you apps drawer and you won't be able to use them until you un-freeze them.

Android 4 now allows disabling of apps from settings/apps/all. No need to root or delete anything...

I still like removing them. I saved 40mb. Every mb counts..

Not sure if anyone mentioned this.
You can use Titanium Backup to free apps and then you will rerouted anything is effected. If not you can use TBU to remove the unwanted apps too.

Its called backing up the ones you delete to a computer... And this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34564849 has an odex version of the stock ROM. Incase no one does backups of the deleted apps, grab them from there and copy them to system/app and fix permissions and reboot. Then you can receive any update..

[Q] Google apps force closing?

Anyone else having this problem since the last Google+ update? I even flashed back to a previous backup that I made before the latest Google+ update. Still have the same problem. Google+ works fine but gmail or gtalk force close. Just wondering if I'm the only one having the problem.
I meant google voice....not google+

Try wiping the data from the app.
Google voice updated and FCs on many devices. Since it is a system app it probably was not replaced when you restored if you did an advance restore or did not choose sytem apps. Delete and try to restore it. I restored my previous version from Titanium Backup.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Uninstall the app completely, then reinstall from the Market. Still, the GVoice app is still buggy as hell, it keeps freezing on playback and FC's 40% of the time if you select to choose every time whether to make a call using GV or not. I've always had nothing but problems with GVoice app in its every iteration, since my BB Tour days...

Correct me if I am wrong, but is GVoice really a system app? After ODINg to stock, had to load it from the Market every time.

Clear data in all the apps FCing and also in Google Services Framework.
And I thought Gvoice installed itself in the system directory. That is what I meant by system app.

Glad I can help. Almost any Google app that FCs also corrupts the data in Google Framework. Option to clear data there is no longer available in the GB leaks
Yeah..I used mybackup pro. No option using the GB leak.

[App] NEW Play Store 3.9.16 !

What's New
The most notable and immediately apparent new feature is the long overdue ability to remove apps you've previously downloaded from the All Apps list. If you like to try a lot of apps, that list is likely very cluttered. With the new Google Play, you can trim it to your heart's content.

Very welcomed update! Works great. Download at source ^^

Make a backup before trying!
Anyways, you can try..
Goto system/app, rename play store apk (i always just add ".bac")
Reboot. Use a root explorer, rename new play store, drop it into system/app. Reboot again. Should be good
almost forgot, set permissions too. rw r r
^^^^that's how I updated to the new gmail
for the new market I believe, I just had to install it (overwrite)

Of course it doesn't unauthorize you from it, it just removes it from the list. And protip: Market->Settings->Add a PIN, Enter PIN for Purchases. No more (potential) unauthorized purchases. In-App or from the market app.

How to stop freezing of some system apps

Google doesn't want me to use earth, Google play movies etc if I m in India and it keeps freezing these apps even if I unfreeze it.
I would like to unfreeze Google earth app and song search widget permanently but couldnt find a way. I tried converting earth to a user app using link2sd but that failed.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
try TiBu, on the main screen pick the middle button at the top and scroll down to the app you want unfrozen, tap it once and click unfreeze. Let me know if that works for you.
Thanks for the pointer. I tried it with Tibu but after a reboot the apps are frozen again
I think the boot process on android freeze undesired system apps. So probably it will require some script/app to unfreeze again at startup.

Package Enabler
Thanks .It does what I need but I will have to request the developer to add some customization. As of now its all or none. I will need capability on unfreeze "some".

Are the apps you're using system apps? If so, use tibu and convert them to user apps. You can do this by long pressing on the app and convert to user.

I had tried that with Google earth but conversion from system to app user failed. I had tried that with link2sd , I can try with TiBu and see if that works.

Converting to user app worked fine from TiBu. Looks like link2sd is not as effective as tibu for conversion into user app. However it doesnt work for widget (sound search for Google play) as tibu doesn't give an option to convert into user widget. I would love to use it on my block screen.

[Q] Why is Facebook not compatible (according to the Play store) with i317m?

This can also be caused by modified CSC files and modified dpi that isn't compatible with the app.

Understood.
Clearing the app data for the play store didn't work.
You're probably on to something with respect to DPI. I'm running a DPI of 280, instead of 320 (which I believe is default). Presumably I can either:
1) Set per app DPI for the play store to be 320, and that would let me install Facebook?
or
2) Set system DPI back to default, install Facebook, and the pull it back down to 280?
I'll try both - and report back.
EDIT: Neither approach worked. I may just pull facebook from another phone.
After you reset your DPI you need to clear Google Play Store and Google Services Framework, restart then try to download it.

Didn't work
What did work, was grabbing the APK from another phone, moving it through dropbox, root explorer, into the correct folder on the new phone, and setting permissions manually. After a reboot, Facebook arrived, worked perfectly, and even received a Play store update (wasn't expecting that).

I noticed that there's a module for Xposed framework that apparently resolves this issue, so I've added that now too. Hopefully that will prevent issues in the future.

Test the waters yourself. Do a nandroid and start by disabling/freezing with TiBu. If there are no issues try uninstalling. You can have TiBu back up the app and restore later if necessary. You can always restore your nandroid if you have major issues.
For the most part some safe ones to uninstall:
-all AT&T apps
-Most if not all Samsung apps. Most of the sync adapters just duplicate what Google already does except to Samsung servers. If you use S Memo, tasks in stock calendar, and a couple of select others, and you want your data backed up leave the corresponding sync adapters enabled along with the Samsung account enabled.
I personally just disabled and froze everything and left it at that on 4.3 since the disabled apps were on a separate tab. The account of space that would be saved was no issue for me.
Thanks guys.
I am not using a custom rom or recovery so I couldn't really backup anything first. I'm bone stock with just root.
I just didn't want to have to start from scratch again if I uninstalled something I shouldn't have.
I just wanted to get rid of all the at&t stuff and wasn't sure about any Samsung stuff.
