So my data speeds are useless here in Abilene, Texas. Please if someone else will post their speeds from other places I'm curious if I'm the only one who's phone is completely debilitated by the service.....?

I get 172 when I run it in California. Its the same results. Virgin mobile simply just sucks.

I'm in Hilliard, OH and of the last 3 speed tests I just ran, I ended up with 60-100KB/s down and the best upload I could muster was 6KB/s.
You get what you pay for, I guess...
Using CM, i get very low averages. Using Sense, I get a little higher on the averages. about 200KB more, but it feels alot faster than that. Even when I have 1 bar reception. Virgin Mobile isn't to bad with speeds. But hey, you get what you paid for.
Not really what I'm paying for. Straight talk in my area averages 3 to 5mb on super slow devices. For the same price. Imagine a device with a fast modem. HSPA+ looks nice right now.

1.How much data do you use per month on avg?
2. How on earth could you use such slow data and still be productive?
3. How fast is your's?
I was wondering the same thing, especially since they reduce speeds after 2.5GB. How "insane" are your speeds?
I stay around 20kbps but I use 10-15 gigabytes a month. I have no home internet so I have to use this. I only pay 25 for my phone so that's why I just stick with it. I don't currently have a job and I can't afford to go to a carrier that will kick me from the network if I use too much data

Isn't 20kbps really slow? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Sent from my Full Android on PrimoC using xda premium
Its slower then dialup which is 54kbps. DSL is .1-1mbps depending on load which is 25 to 98 percent slower. Its all I have though. No home internet. I hear straight talk stories how you get throttled there too and actually get kicked off the network and loose your number. T-Mobile is the same speed after 100mb which I went through in 10 minutes before. So really because of my housing location. I'm doomed to slow interwebz

That's why I left Virgin Mobile, t mobile has many different plans on prepaid they have 2 plans with 5GB and one with 2GB and then the 100MB. I am on the T-Mobile really unlimited plan. Only half way through the month and used 7GB... I can't see how you use 25GB of data with those speeds I don't even use 10 with 20/Mbps(yeah hspa+42 is pretty awesome)

Actually a decent idea. As far as that goes, when I get a little extra cash (no income tax since I get paid by personal check) I would definitely buy a 64GB usb drive and mail it to you out there in TN, simon. That would be my donation for your service.

Wait a couple months and then activate it. I did that with a phone given to my aunt. It wouldn't work when I first tried then a couple months later I tried again and it worked and got activated. I guess after a certain period the esn gets cleared out the system. Hmm maybe when the account is sent to the credit collectors the phone gets cleared out.

Verizon hardly ever clears esn's. I lost a blackberry I had on vzw and swapped to a flip phone, found the blackberry and they still wouldn't clear the esn, even tho I was the original owner and it was only swapped, I never even officially reported it lost/stolen. I had just called and said I needed to swap phones cuz id misplaced the active one, never filed a claim or anything. That stupid blackberry is still blacklisted and that was like 5 yyears ago

Ok, for all the non believers, there are many people getting this,
see here:
http://slickdeals.net/f/5547686-S3-99-cent-from-Sprint
I can confirm they won't honor a price match, but they DID move my upgrade eligibility date up to today for me out of courtesy (was originally eligible on 12/01) so now I can go to Sam's club and buy the phone. There was no charge for them moving my date up, but I'm sure it would vary depending on your date. She also said it might take a couple hours to go through and to check by sending "upgrade" to 1311.
Either way, I should have the GS3 by this evening! Woot!

Well guys. I would definitely try tomorrow. Trust me. The memo went out to all Sprint personnel yesterday. It worked without a hitch for me and many friends. And we all got the tip from inside.
Just scored my deal thanks to a post I saw over at SlickDeals.
As I mentioned on my other post here, earlier today I called 888-273-9460 and was told that they couldn't honor any price matches from 3rd party vendors, but the rep did move up my upgrade eligibility date from 12/01 to 11/01 so that I could go to Sam's Club (or where ever) to get a new phone.
Then tonight, I chatted up customer service and was told the same thing - they don't offer price matches.
Then I saw this post and decided to give it a try and man, I'm glad I did!
I took the *2 route and eventually got through to the cancellations department.
I simple informed the rep that I was calling to see how long it would take for them to release my phone number if I switched carriers because I was upset and was considering it. She gave me the info I asked for and then asked the million dollar question - why I wanted to switch?
I explained that I was upset about having to pay $10/month for this premium data when I live in a 3G area (middle of the midwest). And in addition, I was mad about them trying to force my hand into either paying $49.99 to upgrade through their website or dealing with the madness of Black Friday crowds in an attempt to go to Sam's Club and upgrade...
Immediately, she said that she is very glad I called because she was about to make my day. She then proceeded to tell me that they are the ONLY department authorized to do this and gave me the following:
* $25 bill credit for 6 months for the premium data charge to help offset the costs until they release 4G in my area.
* A new GS3 for $.99 cents (plus ~$3 for tax)
* Waived activation
* Free overnight shipping
* Duplicate everything for the wife's account.
This is precisely why I have been a Sprint customer for 15+ years. They may not have the "fastest speeds" (not that it matters to me because I'm on WiFi 95% of the time anyway), or some of the "perks" that other carriers may promise, but they have one thing that matters more than all of the above - they have awesome customer service and they do what it takes to retain their customers.
I hear all the time - people *****ing about Verizon, AT&T, etc. and how terrible their customer service is. But aside from maybe a few occasions when I had to make 1 or 2 attempts, Sprint has never let me down. And for that, I will remain a loyal customer of theirs and enjoy my shiny new GS3 until the next big thing comes along!
Hey guys. I've got a gs2 and I'm thinking about this device but I might just wait until the s4 comes out. Undecided at this point. Anyway the reason for this thread is because I didn't see any others about the fact that we can now overclock the stock kernel with tegrak overclock, as long as you're rooted, from the play store. Most of you probably already know this and if there is a thread on this topic then just delete this but I didn't see one so I thought I would share the info.

My personal opinion would be to hold off for the s4 I LIKE me s3 but with the s2 also running JB it can do for most part all that the s3 can do minus NFC. If you look at them on paper you will see a minor all around spec jump. However you look at the s2 on paper and what people are guessing the s4 will have that should be a major jump. Plus samsung is really neck and neck with apple right now at least by wall streets anaylists so I am sure the s4 is going to be just a beast of a phone and hopefully put that final nail in apples coffin. The s3 almost did it
Made leaps and bounds more than any other android hand set to date so that should say something so it will be very exciting to see what the s4 will look like. And also done forget Google is working on the x phone. I imagine that will be a beast of a phone as well. As it will be Motorola and googles first tight collaboration since the acquisition.

Yeah 99 bucks is a great deal but I don't to burn the upgrade just yet. I was so close to doing it too but I'm going to just wait for the s4. Besides other than the leaks for the s2 I've been running, which have been really great, we still haven't seen the final build or source yet so it's only going to get better.

As of August 1st I have been eligible for an upgrade. Also.. I am no longer in contract with sprint.
On a side note, I travel the world (primarily in the US though) for my career.
What phone would you get? S4? HTC One? Hold out for the Motorola X (I love that phone despite the somewhat mid tier specs)?
Would you switch carriers? Wait for the next nexus? Any other rumored phones on the horizon?
I feel like I do not want to renew my contract just yet and no device particularly stands out to me just yet (aside from my Motorola X curiosity).
As the title suggests.... What would you do? Hold out for nexus on a gsm and ditch? I'm SO TORN!

Also, with travelling the country... Are they known for good data in most major cities (sprint certainly is not)?
I primarily work in Seattle, Los Angeles, new York, Las Vegas, Hollywood, Florida, Atlanta (sometimes). The other countries I primarily work in are Germany, France, London and possibly soon will be in Japan more frequently.
Obviously gsm is a better choice if overseas trips continue to happen more often... Mostly concerned with coverage in the US though as I can get by (well enough) using Google voice and wifi in Europe... Although that has SCREWED me over few times...
I think I'm mostly hung up on devices at this point. I may just bite the bullet and buy the next lte nexus and attempt to be contract free...
So far away though and I am so tired of the sgsii...

Do not do the new program that t-mobile and AT&T are doing. It is absolute BS. Not only do you pay the full amount over a 2 year contract, if you want to upgrade, you are required to give the device back. You are essentially renting the device from them for the full price. If you want to cancel your contract early , you are required to pay the rest of the full retail price of the device at the time of purchase and pay the ETF. Go with the original plan options if you go contract.

Not to burst your bubble, but I feel it is a deal breaker for me, no sd card support on the Moto X
32 gigs is enough for me (when that variant comes to everyone). Only stuff I store locally is Spotify music. Everything else auto uploads to the cloud essentially.
We'll see though... Note 3 on the horizon... Too many choices!

I don't like relying on the cloud, I store everything locally, I guess 32 gb would be enough if we get one with that much memory. Just wanted you to be aware of that.

If I were you, I'd wait until Sprint releases a tri-band LTE phone first, whether it be the Note 3 or Galaxy S5. I'm personally gonna be renewing my contract for the S5.
Yeah the no SD card and non removable kinda annoying me too. The Korean version has both SD slot and removable battery. Let's hope sprint can get it in their variant ... I'm banking on that if they do I want to try something different than Samsung

New rumor from last night is that there will be TWO nexus variants in Q4. One from Lg (based off of (G2) and another nexus made by Motorola (NOT based on the moto X). If either of these is cdma (probably not) I'll buy on the play store and stay contract free.
Given that they will most likely be gsm only... I would most like the Motorola nexus, if true, and switch to tmobile. Contract free of course...

I'm gonna go for the 32 gb model (assuming it is the largest model, if not... I'll get that) and that will be fine for me. I've NEVER had a phone with as many battery / radio / gps / bs issues as this one... So I'm hoping for the best lol. It looks to be a beast!

Here's the PR from Sprint - Highlight - $149.99 on contract. Preorders start tomorrow.
http://newsroom.sprint.com/news-rel...-sprint-unlimited-data-guarantee-for-life.htm
Now how to get the cash for this.... this is honestly a priority over the G2.
Every AOSP project will need this and I'd like to help make sure we get love this time.
i'm looking closely at this as well. would love to get a nexus, waiting to see if its an easy thing to get it moved over to ting (runs on sprints network and they have all the other lte phones you can byod)
its either that or i'll grab a sprint galaxy nexus and a zero lemon battery and just rock that one for a while
This will be my next phone, I am eligible for an upgrade now, but I need the cash first. Was waiting for the announcement to see if Sprint support was available first. Would have already gotten the MotoX, but I need about 24GB of storage for my everyday usage, so I was thinking HTC One.
Now, I just want it to get a B1G1 or B1G2, or a nice Amazon Wireless discount and I would be EXTRA happy.
**** Added via Edit***
Also just saw that the new wireless charging pad uses magnets for orientation on it, so it should work like the Palm Touchstone, which has usually been considered the best of the wireless chargers. http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/31/google-wireless-charging-pad/
Well... If sprint doesn't announce the 32 gb version during their pre-sale tomorrow.... I'm leaving for Tmo
I purchased the 32 gig model today (can still cancel) but I refuse to pay carrier subsidized prices when I'm bringing my own unsubsidized device. Unless they get me a discount on the 32 gig or get with the times, I'm out.
