Hi All
When I open the app drawer on my stock HOX the bar at the top that normally has "All" plus icons for "Search", "Play Store" and "Menu" is not there and only the search bar itself is there as if I had already pushed the search icon.
If I remember correctly this happened after I used the search function one day a few weeks ago and the search bar just never disappeared since...
Any clue how I get the proper icon bar back?

What happens when you press the left arrow next to the search dialog.

My epic froyo mesaging app icon doesn't show up in the homescreen bar with contacts applications and phone so now I only have those three in homescreen.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
What launcher are you using

If you have stock launcher do the following:
- bring up your application list
- hit menu then edit
- drag the message icon from your application list to the quick launch bar
- hit menu then save
You can customize the quick launch bar with froyo

Also, once you move the messaging icon back, hit menu agin and hit a-z if you want it in alphabetical order.

Dear friends,
for an unknown reason I cannot access my " Settings" whatever you call it from the below right hand corner of the screen as it used to be, it's no longer there. The only other option of getting the phone settings is from on top of the screen which I do not like. Thanks for your help.

In ICS Android no longer has the menu button. Instead, apps now use the action bar. Any overflow from said bar now displays as 3 dots, which include actions such as settings.
Apps that haven't been updated to the new API's will display the 3 dots next to the multi-task button.
However, some custom roms allow you to persistently add the menu button to the navigation bar.
So, the short answer to your question would be to flash a custom rom.
Better get used to hitting the 3 dots, as Google is intent on phasing out the menu button
If you install a custom rom you can add the menu as a soft key

Suddenly, without any update or other obvious change, I can no longer switch between apps using the square icon on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
-----------------
DETAILED BEHAVIOUR:
When I press the square icon, the list of recent apps appears normally.
When I press any app in the list, the list disappears, but instead of finding myself in the selected app, I am back on my home page.
This happens with any app selected from the task list.
Also, my home page sometimes (but not always) is soon replaced by the "Search Apps" overlay, so that I must press the homepage (circle) icon on the taskbar to get the homepage back. There is no problem encountered with doing this.
When I open an app I wanted to switch back to using its icon on any of my launcher screens, it opens exactly where I left off, as if I had successfully reached the app using the task switcher.

I have not changed my launcher, which has remained Nova Launcher ever since I purchased the phone. I have used Nova for years on several phones.
Changing the default "Home App" from Nova Launcher to the default "Moto App Launcher" made no difference at all to the described behaviour.
Is there something short of a destructive reinstall that I can do to repair my phone?
i usualy set mine up where at bottom is the button icon middle bottom and phone/message icons to its left and gmail and firefox to its right on bottom, and swipe left to get to my apps well factory reset my phone, i thought i found all the settings but i cant get the button in middle bottom i looked everywhere
Are you talking about the App Drawer button?
