Swapping mms.apk between ROMS - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Right now, I'm using the Unicef 4.1.2 ROM with the stock mms.apk, which is a modified version of the standard 4.0.3/4 or 4.1 mms.apk. My question is, can I use a different ROM's mms.apk? I prefer the TW 4.0.4, but I've tried to install the apk in the system/app folder, but get a parsing error.
Any help?

Tw stuff usually has to stay with tw ROMs. Not entire certain if MMS.apk is reliant on TW framework... but from the sounds of it, yes it is.

But even a straight 4.2.1 or even the 4.2 from the Nexus 4 dump doesn't work.

No, just deleted the mms.apk in system/apps, and moved the new apk in its place, selected install, "error in parsing package".

Never delete... just change the extension to something random. I change the file to MMS.apkbak
You'll need to change permissions. With any root browser, long press on the file, and change permissions to look like this:
x x -
x - -
x - -
Xs are selected. If you reboot to recovery, fix perms again, then reboot, that's a for sure way of it working or not. There's probably a faster way, but this is the method I use.

You just have to copy/paste the file to system/media there should be another bootanimation zip in there so u can delete or just rename....set the permissions to rw-r-r and reboot
I know its a pretty big file but I would say its worth it

First of all, the file must be renamed to bootanimation.zip. You failed to mention that. Second of all, pushing it to the system/media folder doesn't require changing permissions because it's replacing a file that already had the necessary permissions. Third... It doesn't work.

First I will say thanks for being interested in my boot animation and second u must not know what you are doing because it works just fine and the file doesn't have to be renamed...if u can post or make a video of what you are doing I would be more than happy to help u get the animation working right

I could do it for you but until Tommorrow I'm currently still at work

You could also just download any stock rom and pull the MusicPlayer.apk and drop it in /system/app.
Just make sure you set permissions to match the other system apps.
rw-r--r--

Parse Error
First off, thanks for posting this. I like the stock music player app as well. I got the apk moved into the folder stated above but when I click on it to actually get it installed it gives me a parse error. "There was a problem parsing the package." Any ideas on how to get past this?
Thanks

I'm pretty sure you don't install the apk. You just place it in the system/app folder with root explorer and make sure it has the correct permissions (rw-r-r) and it should be working after a reboot.

I got the permissions chaged and it changed the icon to the correct app icon and restarted but it still doesn't show up in the app drawer. I decided to go back in to root explorer and click on the apk. It asked if i wanted to install I accepted but says install failed. Any other ideas?

If it actually attempts the install and isn't giving you a parse error, try signing it https://dl.dropbox.com/s/isg3dugaond858m/kellinwood.zipsigner2-1.apk?dl=1 then install the signed copy.

Request for cm10 clock on cm9

Is there anybody who can port cm10 clock to ICS? I don't know how many people feel the same but personally cm10 is still buggy for me to use but I love the clock as it has more options than cm9 clock..if anyone can port it I will be very grateful
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Just pull ClockPackage.apk from CM10 nightly zip and replace apk in CM9.
Don't forget about right permissions (chmod 644 / rw-r--r--).

Yes I understand pushing it into system apps and setting the appropriate permissions... but I mentioned I'm unable to open open apk to point out that ICS isn't even recognizing it as a valid apk...the app should at least open but instead I get a parsing package error...so neither does it open nor does it install when I push it into system and set permissions and do a reboot

If your getting parsing error then most likely its not compatible with ICS.

S-Voice from Galaxy 4

i found that on the internet but it isnt better then google now because some function function here.
Not function when you want to wake up by "Hi galaxy"
Download link adf. ly/LmLfL
At least you need system libs, they are part of S-Voice app.
As like as S-Voice from S3, there are some libs added to make all function work (attachment)

Yup, I think so
Download and extract the zip file from DL link below (do not flash it)
And push manually all *.so file related to /system/lib
And set permissions to rw- r-- r--
Reboot device

grab the apk from the s3, put it in /system/app
it probably wont work though
I already get the .apk & .odex files. I put them in system/app , modify the permissions to rw-r-r , reboot, with no luck.
do you have any idea about that?

it might require framework from touchwiz.
