just wanna know what is the best 4.2 kernel for battery life.obviously without sacrificing performance.i have tried franco and trinity but did not get any satisfactory results.there are also other kernels such as zen and AK. anyone who has used all these kernels and has good knowledge about kernels will know better.i am not one of them.any help is appreciated.

franco r328 is nice on battery..
but you should use betterbatterystats and figure out whats causing the drain..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
for example, wifi on w/ google location access enabled can drain the battery even if GPS is off and when not using maps too
you may also want to disable google currents as it drains battery in background sync (4.2)
Standard answer: Try some and see which works best for you.
All kernels work differently for everyone.
I recommend Tinykernel.

Im curious, if i need any apps like SetCPU or Cpu Tuner for CyanogenMod7.
I think somewhere i did read, that CM7 Kernel is doing all that (like undervolting/underclocking when screen is off), am i right or should i use SetCPU for better battery life?
Also if CM7 kernel is doing it, i guess its not safe to use such app as it would interfere with each other?
Thanks in advance...
I don't know the specifics but the newer CM7 builds have a built in overclocking tool more or less exactly like SetCPU. You can use that. CM7 is pretty good on battery life anyway as I can get 2 days out of it but it depends on my usage. I don't know about the kernel though but you could google it or ask thalmas.

using set cpu is actually useless in cm7, if you want good battery click on the thread that's in my sig. ppl keep telling me that its good
deleate pls
Try juice defender.
You could try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081393 with a havs kernel.
I get up to 4 or 5 days with GingerVillain (It's based on CM7). I'm also using SetCPU, because the CM7 based CPU settings didn't work for me.
I think CM7 is good as is, but you can find OC option in Cyanogen Setting.

All kernels can do that... app or CM7 settings are just some GUI to do it the easier way. But you can set it via terminal too
I am currently running Juggernaut v4.1/bullet kernel I just want to know how have batteries been for you guys?
I downloaded the fauxclock app and I basically undervolt to -25 while leaving the other settings unchanged (1 cpu set at 1.67ghz, the other offline).
1) Is this enough to have a good battery life?
2) Is undervolting bad?
3) What other kernels do you guys recommend that work well with Juggernaut that has good battery life? (that is my main concern as I dont want to change to other roms)
Thank you in advance. I am still a noob.
Hello, I just wanted to start a thread to discuss battery optimization for AOKP. My battery life is suffering right now, so I'm reaching out to see what you guys are doing to get great battery life with this Rom. Please share your tweaks, thoughts, concerns or whatever....
I'm A O K with AOKP

post your setup. kernels, tweaks, oc/uv, # of apps..
And what apps are listed in running services. As well as highest wakelocks and duration in Betterbatterystats,

I have setcpu 1400/200. I'm using the nylan kernel also....I'm running build 29....I didn't do any power saver tweaks....what else did you guys need to know?

lol 1400/200!?!? theres ur 1st problem. use voltage control instead of setcpu and stick with 1000/100 or 1100/100. i always found cfq and conservative to be nice for battery, but apparently noop/ondemand is best. maybe try both. also turn data off when not using it most importantly. also try using the auto-start manager in the ROM Toolbox app (free in market) to disable most of ur apps from staying open or updating widgets constantly in the background. freeze system apps you don't use. forget the v6 supercharger, and i'd say stick with the stock kernel. hope that helps..
Do you expect to get good gas mileage running your car at 100 MPH on side streets? Do not OC if you want good battery life.

Thanks for schooling me...lol....I'm implementing your suggestions now....What do you mean turn data off when I'm not using it? Will I still get emails, text, etc?
I'm A O K with AOKP
If you turn of 3g data, you can still send/get phone calls and texts but no email
Also, undervolt you frequencies with voltage control, I don't think you have to go to stock kernel, but do as you please I would imagine the dark blacks from voodoo control would save battery. But anyways, Marcusant had a great guide for setting up any kernel for your phone, ill try to find it..

somebody in another epic thread posted a link to another phone's thread where this guy did a REALLY thorough study about setting up kernels. he found the noop/ondemand was best on battery and that undervolting AT MOST saves about 2% battery, but typically does just about nothing. For that reason, i wouldn't bother doing it..but it's up to you. as for voodoo color you might be right about the blacker blacks..i just noticed on cm9 that the stock kernel saved more battery for me so figured it might apply on aokp too cuz its so similar

Ahem what battery life oh okay
I haven't figured out what is so different but I get much better battery life on AOKP than CM9. My imagination or is something really different on the roms? I don't use the power saver feature because I need my data all the time.
Im running Stock Build 31 on EL30 modem and no custom kernel nor am I oc/uv. I have very few apps and I have no widgets running and im getting horrible battery drain. I purchased the 1800 battery which is a few months old and I just dont know what to do. While my phone is sleeping, the battery drain hardly even moves, but when I start doing simple things like texting or checking emails I start getting drops of 2% percent or more every 5 mins of use.
Any Suggestion would be great.

Hi guys,
I'm a bit of a noob so please bear with me. I recently rooted my phone (SGH-I747M Telus), I have CWM recovery installed. I was interested in overclocking so I installed this kernel on my stock rooted rom (I installed the "sammy" one). I also cleared the delvik cache, cache, and fixed permissions before rebooting. Now I'm having a weird problem with video playback. I get these bleep like sounds, like you might hear on a spaceship, lol. The normal audio plays in addition to these sounds. Yet, regular audio plays fine (mp3s), same with youtube. So, my question is, why? Is there any way of fixing this? I'd rather not play around the stock ROM. I made a backup before doing anything and recently tried to restore the boot, but I got an invalid md5 check.

Okay, I was able to fix my problem by flashing the stock at&t kernel... but I would still like to be able to overclock... is there another kernel that I can try or a way to fix the problem with the kernel I already tried? Thanks.
If you still want to try previous kernel your problem might be because of heavy undervolting , kernel creator posted this voltage chart.
You can experiment by increasing voltage and see if that helps.
Or you can just try this faux kernel , its pretty good also, we don't have many kernel choices for Samsung based roms at this early development cycle.

Thanks for the reply... but I was able to fix the problem. It was something wrong with the settings of SetCPU which I installed earlier. I changed it from on demand to performance and now all is well. Now I have a question about battery life. Will overclocking drain battery a lot faster? I imagine it would only make a difference if I was doing CPU intensive things.

Well.. performance setting makes it so that your CPU runs 100% all the time. I don't think that will be battery friendly . Overclock generally uses more power and battery longevity will depend on your usage.
You can try messing with setcpu settings. Try Conservative, then limit minimum speed to 384 and max to your preference. Try your movie again.
Current kernels and setcpu are a bit quirky.
I had the same issues on ktoonsez Sammy. Ended up back at stock AT&T. I've heard it's an issue with many of the kernels but a fix is on the way. Couldn't find a way to get rid of it, but that's not to say it can't be done. Don't have much time to tinker right now.

Its a known issue on ktoonsez kernel. Flash faux's kernel, it has the same features (as well as GPU OC) and doesn't have the audio issue.
The only reason I'm thinking of undervolting is because the battery seems to be acting strange. I get random 5% battery drops from time to time and deleting the battery stats (calibrating the battery) seems to not have helped. The phone is underclocked and I have much better battery life now, but it's still not satisfactory.
I was wondering if I can undervolt if the phone has stock ROM (Sense 5 android 4.2.2) and stock kernel?
If yes then what apps do you recommend or how much undervolting do you recommend (based on your experience).
If not, then what custom kernel would you suggest?
Kernels you need to test. But undervolt with trickster mod app, found in the playstore.
Ive found that trickster mod does the complete opposite of what ive set it to do (according to other apps anyway)
