try foldersync. great app. also google music is pretty cool.

I do find Google music pretty cool, but I just listen to music for a huge chunk of my day and that active internet connection really kills my battery, also, if I'm not on wifi, or don't have full bars 4g, it seeks to be slow loading songs. Am I doing something wrong?

nah, your right. You can cache music locally. So in google music app you can select songs or albums and select 'keep on device' where it will keep them local and accessible without a inet connection. The thing is then you need to go in and do that for all the stuff you want to listen to which can be a pain if you mostly listen to things offline.
I do use foldersync too which syncs any folders I have defined whenever I connect to my home wifi automagically. I don't need to 'sync' or plug anything in. It just runs and works. That may be better for you. You can specify all kinds of sources to use (ftp, dropbox, drive, windows networking drives, samba, etc).

Wow thanks! Could I do this another way? My main desktop I use I have all my music on, and it can't connect to WiFi, would I just have to plug my phone into my desktop? I apologize I'm a total noob at this haha.

Video playing frm pc to phone

Hey xda
I'm using es file explorer and I finally got it to sync with my desktop ove wifi server ..my question is how do I play videos from the phone directly from the pc without downloading...like click the viddeo and it plays directly on the phone?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Those are two different things. Syncing just makes sure all thes files match each other. Your phone is downloading anything from the sync folder and vice versa. I don't know anyway to play videos from your pc without downloading it first. Hopefully someone else can help you.

What's the point? Takes all but a few mins at most to transfer the video from phone to comp.

You need a DLNA compatible player on your computer and phone; easiest would be WMC on your computer and Twonky on your phone

Whatever applicatin you use as a media center on your computer should have built in DLNA (server/streaming) capabilities; all you need to do is enable that feature and search the Market for a DLNA player/client

Yes, just as when you stream via Hulu/Netflix, its getting downloaded to your temp/cache; the difference being you can start watching immediately as opposed to waiting for a massive file to finish downloading and you don't need the actual space to store the media.

If your computer has a powerful enough CPU to encode video on the fly (dual core within the past 1 or 2 years at least in performance) you can use an app like Emit to stream in real time. I have a laptop with a Core i5 M450 @ 2.4 GHz and it works surprisingly well. Check out the thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15611569
Basically it's similar to Apple's Air Video if you're familiar with that.

That is a silly argument of semantics. There is a huge difference in a tiny downloaded cache, and moving say a 1 GB (or larger) file to your phone.
There a several apps on the Market that will do this function. I've used Plex, and it works well on our phone. Cost is $4.99, but it easily streams video from your computer to your phone over WiFi, and easy to setup. You can even set it up to stream over 3G, and other WiFi networks when you are away from home, as long as you forward the ports on your home computer (takes a bit more setup to do this).
If you have a lot of movies on your computer, its pretty awesome to be able to browse and stream them from anywhere. Plex is not necessarily the best app of this type, its just the only one I've tried. The app suggested by c00ller above seems very similar. That one has a free version, which is a bonus since you can test drive it before committing your $$$.
It may be silly but I thought the OP was looking for a way to play files directly off his computer like a network drive. I apologise if it seemed I was being a contrarian.
P.s.
I suppose that downloads to your phone as well.... anywho...

Its easy with ES File Explorer, I had done it few times.
Share a folder in your PC with videos
Turn on wifi in your mobile
Go to LAN from the tab (instead of local)
from menu ->new -> scan
it will show your pc Ip,
click and connect( i think u need passwords less sharing option in PC)
browse the folders, open any file (Suitable player needed in MOBILE)
ES will ask for choice to vopen the file in ES player or default player or some other player (in my case mobo player)
Just select and play.

Ps. Mobo player dosent show up as an optjion

Install a DLNA server on your PC. I use the (paid) Mezzmo server. A little searching will reveal some freeware ones too.
I have Mezzmo serving up shows I record and DVDs I've ripped, all stored on a 3TB hard drive in MP4 format. On my phone, and the kid's Android Tablets, I've install a DLNA client like Skifta. Skifta connects to Mezzmo, presents an easy-to-navigate browser. Just choose your video and play it.

What music application will allow me to stream music from my pc to my phone?

Not sure if it's what you're looking for but ES File Explorer can do that. Or are you looking for something more along the line of Google Music but on a local network? I don't do that with my phone so I can't honestly name a program for you. Like I said, ES can access the music and play it so you might give it a shot and see if it's what you're looking for.

Set it up. Pretty nice.
I'm wondering if I can set up my own server without there software.
Which I've done. Just like an app to play it.
It is your own server you are hosting the files locally with the option of accessing them from a wan. None of your files are able to be viewed by their software

To save space I want to have my music in a flash drive. I can play individual songs but I want to know if there is way or an app that can shuffle songs that are on my flash drive if I have a folder with music only?

Power Amp seems to work. I'm going to use a different flash drive and see what music it sees and see if the it saves the music on the device or not.

Best Music Sync Application?

I've always been a doubleTwist user on Android but I was curious about other softwares that could transfer my music and playlists.
doubleTwist is fantastic application to transfer files but sadly the cable sync feature doesn't work on the SIII (or does it? Any suggestions)
AirSync with doubleTwist is fantastic as well, but my home WiFi connection is garbage so it takes too long to sync.
What are your favorite applications to sync music and playlists?
Google Music! Love it. I don't even use my ipod anymore

MusicBee is BY FAR the best desktop music player I have encountered - both for use on the desktop and also for synching.
Much more intutitive and easy to use than MediaMonkey, etc., very full featured (has replaygain, fade, etc) and unlike a lot of other programs I have tried which tend to hang, crash of sync very slowly, it works easily every time.
Im surprised more people dont use it - it took me a while to discover this program and I think it rocks.

Play music via usb in car

Ok.... does anyone know of a an app or a way to pay music on my sd card on my car stereo? Thank you in advanced for any solutions you may have.

The GS3 does not support connecting over USB as a mass storage device (like my old Evo did). That is likely why your car stereo does not see your music on your phone. Not sure there is a way around that.

Hi, I'm not sure if this is a solution but you can try it.
do you see the usb logo when you connect your phone to the radio on the status bar? If yes, pull down the notification, and click on the usb logo.. than choose "camera (ftp)", and right after that choose Media Device (MTP). It should work after that. You can also try to enable usb debugging under settings-developper options-usb debugging.

I've tried all types of music players and configurations. The s3 can mount the USB to play music. However 98% of car stereos only support apple. There for you can not see the music on your deck like you can with a iPod. You can change the songs but it won't display them.

Mine kinda works :-0
When I plug my SG3 into my Sony deck (xplod or something) it recognizes a folder and plays the tracks in it. However it is not my music folder. It is some folder containing notification files. It will display the names of the files so I will try to find where those are stored and see if I can put music files there and see if they will play. But yeah, most decks are designed to work with Crapple thangs...
