[Q] Android 4.2 for Galaxy S3 d2att? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Is there any development group working on releasing an Android 4.2 ROM for the Galaxy S3? I had a fully functioning ROM on my HTC Inspire 4G developed by CodefireX and was wondering if they, or any other group, were working on releasing one? If there is already a thread on this, PM me the link and delete the thread. If not maybe we could discuss what it would take to move on to a fully functioning Android 4.2 ROM.

Shouldn't be too hard considering our processors are the same brand, right? I know that was a hangup that randomblame was having for the inspire 4G, but apparently codfireX had success with releasing one in the beta phase already, Almost all features running. Well, if there I'd anything I can help with, let me know

The official CM10 rom is currently working on the merge and it should be out in a week or so.

Thanks for responding. I look forward to Android 4.2 on my GS3

PM me when it comes out?
If someone could PM me when the official cm10.1 release comes out, I'd be very grateful!

very serious. perhaps i should have clarified though that i'm looking for a stable version.
CM for instance seems to only have 4.1.2 stable
if you can point me to some stable 4.2.x ROM which doesn't have non-starter issues (e.g. tethering/camera not working) it would be much appreciated

Part of being on the bleeding edge of development is an OS that is not 100% functional. This does mean the same as it being STABLE. There are a handful of 4.2.1 ROMs that are stable as can be. They do however suffer from small bugs such as BT or WiFi tethering. If these features are essential to you, I'd recommend holding off on the update to 4.2.1.

just to clarify, there are also no stable 4.2 ROMS yet, or just no 4.2.1 one?
also, is there anywhere an up-to-date list of all known issues in the latest nightly CM build?

This WAS a serious question. I asked this before the first 4.2 ROM was available. I have since flashed almost every 4.2.1 ROM available. Please refrain from being sarcastic with me. I do not appreciate it. If someone wants to delete this thread, they can. If not, don't comment, consider this thread closed by the maker. Thanks, and have a nice day
P.S. - Check the date on my original post, then compare it with the date of the original post for Mike's Illusion ROM (the first 4.2 ROM for our device).

There are a handful of 4.2.1 AOSP based ROMs in the original development section that are stable and fully capable of being a daily driver. Understand though, that they do all have bugs as I mentioned such as BT and WiFi tethering.

Old thread dug up yesterday for no reason other than not even looking in the Development sections to see that there are 4.2 ROMs availabile is closed per the OP.
And I sure hope the person who dug this up isn't trying for the infamous #10 post so s/he can post "thanks" in a dev thread or a bug that has been already reported for the last 10 pages. I am now watching you.

Well. not only that.
When Google releases something, they probably don't leave broken links on their FP for 4 releases. Like this rootzwiki link has.
You want me to trust someone who is unable to post and maintain a link to reliably and correctly build, package and distribute a full firmware package, for a phone he admits he does not have?
First GSM builds couldn't even be installed because the updater script asserterted "toro". That's a pretty glaring mistake.
Sorry for not really trusting that release particularly much.

Development

Is it me or has development for the galaxy s3 slowed down dramatically? Have most of the device switched to another device?
Some devs have moved onto the Note II, while others are still developing. I actually think development is still quite strong for our device. There's over 10 AOSP roms that's been updated since March 1st and there's probably over 10 TW roms updated since March. I helped a friend of mine mod his EVO LTE and I felt like his device was way more limited in ROM selection than ours was.
Not only that, the developers have pretty much everything running smoothly. What exactly needs to be updated? TW ROMs are updated, AOSP ROMs are pretty much all 4.2.2...
Once the S4 drops TW development will pick up, and when 5.0 gets released AOSP will pick up.
Right now, I'm running the latest version of Android with a slew of extra features and no bugs at all. Not much to develop.

LiquidSmooth stable release.
Well I see no reason to continue development like the past if most ROMs are pretty stable already sure when a new update comes every devs will push out updates with whatever is new in stock but other than that ROMs are pretty stable and its best to be left like that. That's just my opinion though.

development is still running strong (Have you seen the changes constantly being made to The People's Rom and Mother of all roms for instance?) I run either of those, and they are always adding new features to please the people who run them. So i don't see development slowed at all. As more things trickle down the pipeline via release or port, from another device, they will get added. Development is strong with this one. :silly:

[Q] Illusion ROM Port to maguro - Possible? Help wanted?

Hey everyone,
So I've been using PA roms for a while now, and the best thing about them (in my opinion) is the Hybrid Settings.
Only problem is, PA sometimes tenses to lag a bit. So Slim Bean would be a good alternative, but sadly this rom doesn't have Hybrid Settings.
Well, here is the rom perfect for the people like me: Based on Slim Bean, with the best of AOSPA and some AOKP features (and many more!), this rom is amazingly fast and has a lot of customization.
I would love to get this rom on my Galaxy Nexus maguro, but I myself have absolutely no idea how to port a rom, so I asked one of the people who develope the rom, $droyd$, if they were planning to port it to our beloved maguro, and he said:
As of now its not planned for the galaxy nexus but it is open source. That being said if you can build it for the galaxy nexus or know someone who can have them contact us and we can see.
Click to collapse
So this is where I need your help! If there is someone, who knows how to port this rom to our Galaxy Nexus, please help me (and other people). Currently the rom is still in development, so not all the final features are there. It has had it's first official release (sadly without the Hybrid Settings, but they plan to add it back soon) and version 2.0 is on its way, so we have no hurry. But it would be awesome if there would be someone willing to help port this rom to our Galaxy Nexus!
If you want to know more about the rom, here are some links and a video:
Google Nexus 4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2338448
Google + $droyd$: Mike Williams
YouTube Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf-9S1WRxQg
I hope I convinced some of you enough so we can make this happen! Anyway, thanks for listening
Questions should be in Q&A section! Mod should move this into right section soon!
Why you want it to be ported if you may be able to build it from sources?
I'm not sure if that ROM is open sourced to be able build it for maguro,if it is open sourced then just set up building environment on Linux and download sources and then Maguro properiatry files and start building it for Maguro!
No sense to port it because then most of the things wouldn't work!
Thread moved to Q&A section - for future questions please use this section. Android Development is for Development

Sorry for posting in the wrong place, it was not my intention.
Also, sorry for not knowing the difference between 'porting a rom' and 'compiling it from source', I don't really know much about that.
That being said, I don't know how to compile a rom from source.
So if there is someone willing to compile this rom for our Galaxy Nexus, please let me know!
If not, is there someone who can link me to a good tutorial, so I can try it myself?
Thanks again

If they "didn't work" the devs would take them down or not put them up in the first place. Are there some bugs here and there? Yes. Read the threads for those.

Old news. Would not be surprised if the international Exynos SII gets the update, but Qualcomm does not support 4.2 on our aged S3 chipset.

I'm curious how it is that we have to many custom 4.2.2 rom for the Hercules, yet the graphics driver is not supported?? Did Cyanogen and other rom developers somehow find a way to port the old Qualcomm drivers to other versions of android? Or are we just using the previous 4.1.2 drivers somehow. Either way the statement that the update is somehow incompatible with our device is purely garbage. Truth be told, it is simply a way to sell more devices, at least it is for those who are not willing to flash custom ROMs. For the rest of us there is 4.3 on a device that began as a gingerbread device, which is awesome. Now bring on the KitKat, because I'm sure our device can rock some 4.4 just as well.

Not a dev so these questions are over my head, but I am curious about the answers as well. And if they Key lime pie (kitkat) rumors are true about it being less spec hungry then it might just be the best running version of Android to grace our phones.
